NOW CLOSED Do you have a c-section scar less than a year old or an older but still troublesome one? Try the new Kelo-cote silicone gel, £200 JL voucher to be won

(100 Posts)
KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 19-Nov-12 10:31:38

We're looking for 250 Mumsnetters to try out the new Kelo-cote silicone gel for c-section scars. Here's what they say: "Kelo-cote gel self-dries to a waterproof membrane that acts like an extra layer of skin. It's the only silicone gel clinically proven to soften, flatten and smooth the scar while maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the adjacent skin."

We're looking for Mumsnetters who have a either c-section scar that is less than 1 year old or a c-section scar that is less than 3 years old and is still troublesome (i.e red, itchy, raised, sore etc), to try this product over the course of three months. You'll be required to add diary style feedback on how your finding the gel during this time. Each tester will be sent a 15g tube of the silicone gel (RRP £29.99). For full ingredients list please see here.

Feedback will concentrate on what the gel feels like, what it's like to apply as well as your overall views of the gel - and any improvements noted to the appearance and feel of the scar. Please note this is in no way a scientific trial - Kelo-cote are just after testers general views and experiences and anecdotal feedback.

Additionally, we may also ask you to complete a (very) short survey at the end of the three month trial - this will focus on whether you'd be happy to recommend the gel to others and overall ratings.

Kelo-cote would also like some testers to take pictures of their scars at the beginning of trail and once a month thereafter (this is not compulsory though!). All testers who supply four pictures at the end of the trail will also receive a £10 John Lewis voucher and a tube of the new stretch mark cream each (RRP £14.99). If you're happy to take pictures, please tick the relevant box in the sign up form. Please note the pictures may be used on marketing material and the Kelo-cote website as before and after pictures. They will be completely anonymous and all recognisable parts will be removed.

Everyone who adds their feedback to the thread on Mumsnet as required will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 John Lewis voucher.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

Done! Was feeling my 11mo scar this morning and thinking how annoying it is, it's raised and bumpy. I suppose DS is worth it just about

Done. I have had two c-secs, last one four months ago and my scar is bothersome. Hope I get picked for once!

Northernexile Mon 19-Nov-12 11:39:21

Done! Haven't used anything on my 8mo scar yet, so would be keen to give this a go!

C-section scar is now 7 years old-but I have a very nasty 2 month old abdominal hysterectomy scar-does that qualify?

snala Mon 19-Nov-12 12:59:58

Done. Going for my 3rd section on Monday so could use this from the start. Had nothing but trouble with previous 2 scars.

NoBloodyMore Mon 19-Nov-12 13:05:07

Done grin

Marrow Mon 19-Nov-12 14:14:23

Does it have to be a scar from a c-section or can it be from other abdominal surgery?

hawthers Mon 19-Nov-12 14:27:19

Done - both mine keloided (sp) despite apparently not being likely to. Allegedly they can be pale and pencil thin, I really hope something can help. Mine us rather angry looking still at 11 months

Newtothisstuff Mon 19-Nov-12 14:29:48

Done.. Mine is 6 months old and my 2nd c section. It itches so much and is massively raised sad

CorporeSarnie Mon 19-Nov-12 14:36:51

I've added my details to the survey. I'd love my scar to look better - 13m on and it is still treoublesome.

Ooh me please I have had 2 c-secs in the last 15 months!

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo Mon 19-Nov-12 14:49:03

I had one in 2009, and am having another 21/12, am i eligible?

melliebobs Mon 19-Nov-12 16:31:58

Done! Hope I get picked. My scar is 8.5 month n gets so itchy but really numb at the same time. It's bizarre n not in a good way

FrankincenseWippery Mon 19-Nov-12 16:45:07

My most recent c-section scar is nearly 4 years old (in Feb), but is still troublesome, sore at times and weepy in the odd spot. Please can I try this too...

trockodile Mon 19-Nov-12 16:46:21

I applied with hysterectomy scar-it is impressive! If that is not ok, obviously don't put me through. Thanks.

CMOTDibbler Mon 19-Nov-12 17:07:17

I've used kelocote on my manky arm scar, and it really stopped the itching and softened it (hopeful they'd give me a free tube smile). Alas I still have a stonking great hypertrophic/keloid scar though.

My scar is two years old but still itchy. I also have a 5+ inch scar going down from my stomach from emergency surgery relating to my emcs which is tight and itchy.

Heavywheezing Mon 19-Nov-12 18:40:27

I have a c section scar, 18 months old, I'd like to try it out.

IceNoSlice Mon 19-Nov-12 18:43:39

Done. I had my second c section nearly 4 months ago. After my first one, I ended up with a keloid, so I'm keen to avoid that this time. My scar is currently itchy on and off, still red, and the general area can be sore if I wear trousers that are too tight. My obstetrician advised me to use a silicone pad, but to be honest I've not got round to finding one of these. This product sounds more convenient to use than a pad, which I would imagine could become annoying.

Fingers crossed I'm chosen! smile

themachinist Mon 19-Nov-12 20:00:53

Done. First scar cut out when having second section by arrangements as so manky looking. \second scar not much better - 2 years on is hugely raised and red. Grim.

missorinoco Mon 19-Nov-12 20:18:09

Five year old section scar that is bumpy, red and horrible. Bio oil didn't help, but I only tried it this year. If you don't get enough applicants can we join in?

ceeveebee Mon 19-Nov-12 21:24:20

My scar is just over 12 months old and is still red and itchy, would love it to go away!

Angelico Mon 19-Nov-12 21:51:18

Signed up although tbh my scar has been admired by every medical peep who has seen it - it's very 'clean' and healed really quickly (the agony was all within...!)

bemybebe Mon 19-Nov-12 22:00:17

done smile

marshmallowpies Mon 19-Nov-12 22:30:06

My scar is 6 months old & still quite itchy, uncomfortable if I'm wearing tight trousers or DD decides to do a bit of Riverdance on my tum. Would be interested in seeing whether anything can make it a bit more comfortable. I haven't been using anything on it so far.

notanotter Mon 19-Nov-12 22:34:44

me too!!

FairiesWearPoppies Mon 19-Nov-12 22:38:07

Done. I f**** hate my scar sad 6months on its red, angry, lumpy and itchy. Am ashamed to show even dp. Anything that can help has got to be worth it.

SameAsYou Mon 19-Nov-12 23:34:52

Boo.....wish I could apply 7 years on still numb and itchy! Also get Psoriassis on the scar too

amy175 Mon 19-Nov-12 23:35:42

mine is still like that and my dd is nearly 9. weeps sometimes too.
would be interested in the results of this trial, i know mine is way too old.

notanotter Tue 20-Nov-12 00:00:44

mines 8 months 3 weeks old btw

tara277 Tue 20-Nov-12 00:25:30

I'm amazed that so many of us are having these problems - thought it was just me. I had no problems with first c-section scar, in fact you really couldn't see it at all but second time different story. Would be great it something could make a difference as it makes me feel horrible when it is flaring up.

k2togm1 Tue 20-Nov-12 03:24:08

I've even agreed to take photos just to dare anyone to use them in anything!! And what counts as recognisable and by whom? wink
C sec scars are awfulsad

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 20-Nov-12 11:14:06

Thanks everyone for signing up so far. Kelo-cote have been reading your comments and have decided to open the product test up to those with other abdominal scars too. On the sign up form please select "other" to Q6 and tell us a bit about your scar.

We'll be in touch with those selected next week, thanks again thanks

Reenypip Tue 20-Nov-12 12:22:49

Would it work on other scars?
I have a c section scar still red itchy 18 months, and also have very red wide itchy breast scars from 5 months ago.

Fingers crossed I get picked - my 3rd c-section scar is 2.5 years old. The first one keloided. 2 years later that was cut out to make way for the next. And the same, 2 years after that. This one is weird: it's perfect in one little bit, lumpy and keloided in other bits, mostly red, and it itches all over.

flipandfill Tue 20-Nov-12 15:44:56

Yes please- scar is older than a year - 2 years old- but had an infection and it is raised and can be itchy, skin is hard and lumpy around it

notts04 Tue 20-Nov-12 17:37:43

Yes please. Signed up.

notts04 Tue 20-Nov-12 17:38:30

O latest csection 2 months ago.

Done. 2nd c sec 2 months ago. Having some trouble at the edges where they did me up mega tightly. Hoping to get through.

Catbag Wed 21-Nov-12 16:13:21

All done smile

beautifulgirls Wed 21-Nov-12 22:37:32

Not a c-section scar but have been using this on our daughters foot since December 2011, after an amputation surgery in August 2011 on advice from the plastics consultant. We are very pleased with her scar given the potential for some very difficult scarring - in her case also combined with E45 moisturising and a compression sock to help keep the scar tissue flat.

Watto1 Thu 22-Nov-12 11:40:08

I hope I'm picked. I had a horrible keloid after my 1st c-section. It was cut out during my second c-section but I've ended up with another keloid. Red, bumpy and itchy over 2 years on. So jealous of my sister who had a c-section 2 months before mine. You can't even see her scar.

Loopyhasanotherbean Thu 22-Nov-12 13:39:31

done, hope i get picked and hope it works!

tubbsycat Thu 22-Nov-12 16:16:23

10yrs, 8rs & 5 yrs ago but still annoyingly tingley especially in the colder weather... give it a try. Thanks

ValiumQueen Thu 22-Nov-12 19:13:29

Done - scar 8.5 months old. It's not actually troublesome in the slightest, but I just want to know if the cream would make it fade or anything. Plus am interested in the stretch mark cream.

Snugglenush Sat 24-Nov-12 18:08:47

Signed up!! My scar is just over 2 years old, it doesn't look too unsightly but it itches and is sore quite often - and in fact sometimes has a funny. Also still numb and bizarre like melliebobs!

pomdereplay Mon 26-Nov-12 18:09:47

Signed up - I have a lovely 9 month old scar that is a daily reminder of nearly dying during my EMCS!

k2togm1 Wed 28-Nov-12 08:45:42

So have the chosen ones Ben notified already? sad

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 28-Nov-12 14:09:47

k2togm1 we'll be emailing those selected on Friday.

Marrow Fri 30-Nov-12 17:03:49

ceeveebee Fri 30-Nov-12 17:47:44

McPhee Fri 30-Nov-12 21:53:10

Northernexile Sat 01-Dec-12 07:57:47

I haven't been emailed. Dies that mean I haven't been picked? Why? We're there really 250 MNers picked before me?

hohohohawthers Sat 01-Dec-12 09:42:43

I've not had an email either sad. I hate that red fat squatter on my stomach

exiledmancityfan Sun 02-Dec-12 09:06:05

grin I'm in. First bit of feedback who has 5 minutes to wait for it to dry? I have a 10wk old and about 8 yr old!

Angelico Sun 02-Dec-12 13:15:40

I'm in and regretting it now it says 5 mins for it to dry. Drying myself after the shower is a triumph with a new baby grin

snala Thu 06-Dec-12 18:27:30

Still haven't received mine!

Still haven't received mine either sad

Susieloo Tue 11-Dec-12 00:16:25

Lamazeroo Tue 11-Dec-12 09:50:33

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 11-Dec-12 12:31:00

Hello, I believe the products were sent out on Friday so should be arriving in the next couple of days. I'll check and email everyone with an update soon.

InTheBoonies Wed 12-Dec-12 07:44:25

Got my email, says we will receive the gel within the next couple of days!

smile Thanks.

AmandinePoulain Thu 13-Dec-12 11:37:38

Hi. I've just received a tube but I didn't get an email so I don't know what to do with the feedback. Do I need to take photos? And is this the feedback thread or will there be a new one like normal?

Thanks by the way!

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo Thu 13-Dec-12 12:05:27

Hi i recieved mine today also, how do i give feedback? Haven't had an email, but will be using as of 21st

hohohohawthers Thu 13-Dec-12 12:15:09

Am in the same boat have no idea what feedback is needed

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 13-Dec-12 12:37:14

Hi I'll be sending everyone a link to the feedback thread first week in January, for now you just need to use the gel daily as per the instructions in the information leaflet that you should have also received.

AmandinePoulain you should have received an email from me last week, I'll resend it to you today.

exiledmancityfan Thu 13-Dec-12 20:45:47

Got mine today. I will start using it tomorrow grin

FairyJengleBells Thu 13-Dec-12 20:52:16

God I really wanted this one sad

Nigglenaggle Thu 13-Dec-12 21:06:02

Got mine today smile Quite excited actually. I will be very impressed if it helps the scar which has been static for some time now...

AmandinePoulain Thu 13-Dec-12 22:06:10

My first impression is that I can't get into the thing! grin Dh bit the top off in the end, surely there is a proper technique though? There aren't instructions, am I meant to have pierced it with something?

InTheBoonies Fri 14-Dec-12 11:33:40

Mine arrived today, I wonder how it will compare to the Dermatix silicone gel i've been using. It looks identical!

I have also used those lily c silicone patches which I don't rate at all as they don't stay put.

ceeveebee Fri 14-Dec-12 20:04:05

I just snipped the end of with scissors. There should be instructions though, its not clear.

Bonkerz Fri 14-Dec-12 20:07:42

Mine has arrived in perfect time for a sore flare up on corner of scar!

Nigglenaggle Fri 14-Dec-12 20:19:10

I also struggled with opening. Was worried it was just me!!

Northernexile Sun 16-Dec-12 22:46:09

Hello Katie. Received some gel on Friday but didn't get an email. Do I need one? Shall just crack on with application in the meantime.

UntamedShrew Sun 16-Dec-12 22:48:44

Thank you for the gel!

I didn't get an email either so please can you make sure I'm on the list for the January one / resend this one? Thanks again.

UntamedShrew Sun 16-Dec-12 22:54:37

And YY to the opening issue. Although partly as extreme tiredness has rendered me utterly doolally - I was trying to cut off the end and then realised I'd put the outer cap back on and was actually sawing through that blush

Like the product though - only 3 days in but I'm encouraged thus far...

YankNCock Sun 16-Dec-12 22:59:05

Got mine, and also bit the top off!

Has anyone taken a 'before' photo? Mine haven't come out well. That's all I'm going to say.

UntamedShrew Mon 17-Dec-12 08:13:31

No way, I said no to photos!!

McPheastOfStephen Mon 17-Dec-12 11:09:05

I've received mine, and also taken a before photo.

Sincere apols to MNHQ for any eyeballs which may have melted blush

AmandinePoulain Mon 17-Dec-12 15:11:26

I took a photo so that I'd have something to compare it to, but it's for my eyes only wink
