TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 12:21:12

We have a very exciting event and product test for you to take part in - PlayStation would like to invite 20 Mumsnetters to attend an event in central London this Saturday (10 Nov) to showcase their new Book of Spells game. Here's a word from PlayStation about this magical new game: "The Book of Spells will be one of the must have family gifts this Christmas. It's a book that, with the help of PlayStation, literally comes to life on your TV screen, letting you live in the stories you love.

Featuring exclusive new and original writing from J.K. Rowling, Wonderbook: Book of Spells sends you on a fantastic journey to read and learn the secrets of wizardry and the art of spell-casting, just like a student at Hogwarts. On the way, you'll discover, practice and be tested on over 20 classic spells, such such as Incendio, Wingardium Leviosa and Expelliarmus."

For more info on the game see here.

We're looking for 20 Mumsnetters who:

~ Have at least one child aged 7-10 years (boy or girl)

~ Are able to attend an event in central London between 12 and 4pm (you only need to attend for one hour during that time) with their family (max 2 adults, 4 children)

~ Are happy to be filmed by PlayStation, and take some footage on their smartphone of their child(ren) before, during and after the event to capture the excitement!

~ Can be a PlayStation Mumsnet panellist afterwards - this will involve taking part in 4 activities over the course of the next year, such as testing new games with their child(ren) and much more

The event will be in a central London location (we'll confirm details with those selected). Travel expenses aren't covered but refreshments will be provided. If you sign up to attend during one of the lunchtime slots though, you will need to have some lunch before or after you attend - the refreshments provided will just be snacks.

You will only be required to attend for one hour, so please tick your first and second choices of time slots on the sign up survey (link below). During your session you and your family will be shown how to set up the game, how to play and you'll be given the opportunity to film your child(ren) playing the game.

After the event you'll be sent a Wonderbook PS3 hard bundle (PS3 console, Move Controller, PlayStation Eye, Wonderbook & Book of Spells) to keep (RRP £199). You'll need to film your child(ren) playing the game at home and send in your footage to Mumsnet. You'll also need to add your feedback on the event, and the game itself on a thread on Mumsnet.

The footage you and other Mumsnetters submit, as well as the footage PlayStation capture on the day may appear on Mumsnet and potentially elsewhere. Please only sign up for this if you're happy with that.

If you're interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks - we'll be in touch with selected Mumsnetters by Thurs (8 Nov).

MNHQ

I have to work this Saturday or me and DD would be up there like a shot - she loves the Book of Spells game, we got to play it at Eurogamer a couple of weeks ago.

Is there anyway I can ask to be on the Playstation panel without doing the activity this week? <desperate, pleading puppy-dog eyes> We're a big gaming family...

Actually (having read the post better) can DH bring them, even if I can't?

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 13:03:23

MrsDmitri - yes, by all means your DH can bring them - as long as he's prepared to do the filming!

Also - re: joining panel if you can't come to the event - at the moment this is only open to people who can make it on Sat, but we may open it up to everyone later on if need be - keep your eyes peeled!

He will - just rang him and told him about it and he got all excited (in a manly stoic fashion of course) oh god we're so sad

Have signed up and will keep all our fingers crossed grin

I want a ps3 but my kids are too young! Hurry up and grow damn you!

Alambil Tue 06-Nov-12 13:13:58

Ds would die for this! Is there still space?

gazzalw Tue 06-Nov-12 13:36:33

Did my application go thro' Helen? Wow this would be awesome. DW is fast beginning to wonder who is more of the child in our house - me or the DCs -no competition, but we all would love to try out some magic of our own!

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 13:44:42

Yep, got you Gazzalw!

gazzalw Tue 06-Nov-12 14:21:20

Belo Tue 06-Nov-12 15:47:19

I signed up in such an enthusiastic hurry that I forgot to add what big Harry Potter fans my daughters are to the form. DD2 dressed up as Hermione for book week last year and DD1 is making her way through the books. Both have watched the films more times than I dare to publically acknowledge!

Please can you add that to my form?

Thank you!

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 15:55:03

Will do Belo

Doogle2 - we won't be in touch with selected attendees til Thurs - would hate for you to get some sort of RSI!!

directoroflegacy Tue 06-Nov-12 15:59:58

Hi

Hopezibah Tue 06-Nov-12 16:01:37

Have applied! This is perfect as my son (aged 8) is coming to London on saturday and was pondering what to do during the day (as he is busy late pm and evening) this would be perfect as he LOVES playstation but doesn't have one of his own. Just have to keep my fingers crossed now! When would we hear by if we were successful?

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 16:02:37

Hopezibah - we'll let you know on Thurs if you've been successful!

jes73 Tue 06-Nov-12 16:02:47

ChippyMinton Tue 06-Nov-12 16:19:50

Hi Helen - I have signed up, but happy to be a last-minute sub if necessary, as we are local and took part in another console product test a few months ago so don't want to be greedy.

Sparklegeek Tue 06-Nov-12 16:36:24

<Frantically casts spell on Mumsnet towers >

Chooseuschooseus-amus!

Spockster Tue 06-Nov-12 16:38:18

Perfect for DD1 and DD2, both little HP swots, and deprived in the console department......I didn't get a confirmation message though, should I have done? Do I have to apply again? <starts to panic...>

Doogle2 Tue 06-Nov-12 16:41:07

Thanks Helen - will take up pacing instead!

clux73 Tue 06-Nov-12 16:55:53

I didn't get a confirmation page so not sure if it went through....

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 17:00:12

Spockster - yes we've got your application thanks, don't panic!

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 17:01:31

clux73 - yes, we've got you too, thanks!

pantone363 Tue 06-Nov-12 17:03:22

I cannot believe I nearly missed this, the email went to my junk folder! DD would be beside herself if she won this!!!

MrsVincentPrice Tue 06-Nov-12 17:06:05

Could you check whether my entry's gone in please? Phone went a bit funny.
This would be perfect for us - am poised and ready with phone camera to capture DC's reaction...may have slight cramp by Thursday.

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 06-Nov-12 17:11:25

MrsVincentPrice - yes, we've got your entry.

Note to all - if you get directed to our online surveys and product testing page (here) when you press submit, then your entry will have been submitted.

MrsVincentPrice Tue 06-Nov-12 17:14:48

Thanks Helen - it failed the first time I submitted so the second time I was a bit dubious about the absence of the normal confirmation screen.

avelte Tue 06-Nov-12 17:21:27

AnnieWinehouse Tue 06-Nov-12 17:47:12

Oh DS would LOVE this, but unfortunately we are in Ireland for the weekend sad

Rara27 Tue 06-Nov-12 18:21:13

Awww gutted!sad A bit short notice for us to organise getting to, but if any come up just to test at home my 8 y/o would love it.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 06-Nov-12 18:29:45

Noooo. My DD would LOVE this more than anything really. As would I. But we have a family christening to go to instead. sad

Hope whoever goes has a great time and tells us all about it!

PosieParker Tue 06-Nov-12 18:49:06

Me me me me me me me pick me.

All 3 of my dcs would LOVE this. Have applied with dd in mind though as the poor girl always misses out on the fun have two brothers.

Fingers crossed here too, would fill up my Saturday perfectly grin

how exciting! have just signed up. DP is going to be unimpressed, but DS1 will love it!

Witchety Tue 06-Nov-12 19:04:41

I'm more exited at the prospect of meeting real, live MNers!!

Uppermid Tue 06-Nov-12 19:11:47

Fingers crossed!

pushitreallgood Tue 06-Nov-12 20:18:16

i dont know much about anything game wise but just mentioned this to the kids and they went nuts, hahaha kids.

mzdemeanour Tue 06-Nov-12 20:20:17

Would love to come if there are spaces still available. Have boy/girl twins aged 8 who would murder each other happily for a Playstation!

Dontbesodramatic Tue 06-Nov-12 20:24:17

Hi Helen, can you check if mine went through please? I accidentally sent it before I could add in to the final box!

mummykate72 Tue 06-Nov-12 20:57:15

Have signed up too, sounds fab!

racingheart Tue 06-Nov-12 22:12:31

just signed up. DC would love to do this.

Two kids in the age bracket who are Harry potter mad - tick,
can be in london on saturday - tick.
happy to be filmed - tick
happy to be a panelist - tick

have a smart phone - noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

So - now need to get my mitts on a smart phone pdq as my kids would kill for this....

Have got a flip cam, normal camera to film on but no smart phone - leaves the thread to quietly sob in the corner and write out her line " I must stop living in the dark ages, I must stop living in the dark ages " I did wonder why I needed a smart phone - now I know!!

ScorpionQueen Tue 06-Nov-12 22:44:24

I normally fill in the form and sit back with quiet dignity but PLEASE choose us this time.
smile

BertieBotts Tue 06-Nov-12 22:44:59

envy

Forget the kids, I want to go! Do you think I can pass for ten? <hides wrinkles>

Littlebells I think it says they will provide you with a smart phone.

Anyone who goes, I'd love to hear if the game is playable by adults blush

It is Bertie. We saw adults playing it at Eurogamer, I want to play it, it looks fantastic! I'm most irritated that I'm working and Dh will have to step up if MN choose us, pretty please.

Pretty sure the sign up thing asks what smartphone you have, and are going to use so they can send you the right app to upload the footage? I'm going to have to give DH my lovely iPhone if he goes as that's what we'd use for the at home bits. No reading fanfiction at work, oh the suffering

BertieBotts Tue 06-Nov-12 23:14:59

Ooh how exciting! I think I might get it then in that case - we have a PS3!

DP was at GamesCom, I'll have to grill him about whether they had it there or not. Was a couple of months ago now, so perhaps not.

It was... grin

It's being pushed fairly heavily I think. And it's working because I the kids really want it.

BertieBotts Tue 06-Nov-12 23:45:48

Tch, why didn't he tell me about this sooner. Too busy fanboying over his games I expect grin and dancing to Gangnam Style just before it went viral... hmm

I shall be sure to hassle him for information!

Squiglettsmummy2bx Wed 07-Nov-12 04:33:34

It's my birthday Saturday & my plans have gone out the window so this would be a nice alternative grin

jennywren123 Wed 07-Nov-12 08:15:18

Oops forgot DD1 is away on Saturday. Mumsnet ladies could you possibly change my application so that it is one adult and one child (DS1 age 9).

Thanks thanks, and fingers crossed smile

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 09:11:16

dontbesodramatic - we've got your application but with a blank 'pickmepickme' box - pls post here what you'd like to say (or PM me it if you're too embarrassed to post it here!) and I'll add it to your application

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 09:16:45

Done jennywren123!

Littlebells/BertieBotts - just to confirm - you need to bring your own smartphone - they won't be supplied on the day. The filming needs to be done via a smartphone app, which is why a flipcam or 'normal' camera won't do this time, sorry!

Witchety Wed 07-Nov-12 09:47:39

Smartphone app?? Nit just the camera on your smartphone then?

Witchety Wed 07-Nov-12 09:50:26

Helen could you add to my application a htc explorer please?

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 10:07:26

Witchety - you film on your phone's camera but then you upload the footage via an app that you'll need to download - it's free and very easy to use! Will add HTC Explorer to your entry.

gazzalw Wed 07-Nov-12 10:28:13

Is it not feasible to use this app with an I Pad - does this mean we've no chance of being picked if we don't have a smartphone?

smarmyarmy Wed 07-Nov-12 10:32:43

Oh my goodness, what an amazing opportunity! My kids were so excited when I told them about this. Have filled in and have my fingers crossed!

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Wed 07-Nov-12 11:53:42

I cant believe my sons overheard me mentioning it to dh. They were all YIPPEEE!

I had to go "It is like a raffle ticket. We wont necessarily GET IT"

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 15:15:43

gazzalw - yes, iPad is fine don't worry

Witchety Wed 07-Nov-12 15:43:36

Closed now? Do we def hear tomorrow?

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 07-Nov-12 17:16:59

Yes, closed now! We'll be in touch with those who have been picked by email tomorrow (as early as poss)

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 08-Nov-12 11:34:13

Hi all - the client has until lunchtime to approve the shortlist so we won't hear until this afternoon, sorry can't put you all out of your misery any earlier!

Witchety Thu 08-Nov-12 11:38:26

What time is 'lunchtime' these days?!

jes73 Thu 08-Nov-12 11:49:08

Suspense is killing me but I shall stop monitoring my mail every 3 mins and wait for a surprise this afternoon!! smile

i dont think so katie, but not sure.

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 08-Nov-12 14:45:18

Sorry for the delay - hopefully won't be too much longer.

We'll email those who've been selected. If you get an email from us, please try not to let on to your child(ren) straight away - we'd love you to capture the moment you tell them on camera (on your smartphone) if you can.

If you don't get an email from us, I'll post on here when all the emails have gone out. Then you'll know whether or not you've been picked.

Sorry in advance to all those who don't get to go but do keep an eye out for more opportunities soon!

Witchety Thu 08-Nov-12 14:46:49

Thanks Helen!

VivaLeBeaver Thu 08-Nov-12 19:41:18

pantone363 Thu 08-Nov-12 19:43:33

V EXCITED DC grin

GrotMags Thu 08-Nov-12 19:50:26

gazzalw Thu 08-Nov-12 20:08:30

Yes, we are VivaLaBeaver

Alambil Thu 08-Nov-12 20:14:34

I'm at 2-3 Viva but will be around town for a bit after

I filmed DS - he got the giggles and went totally silent with his eyes popping from his head!

He was totally lost for words, bless him

VivaLeBeaver Thu 08-Nov-12 20:27:05

Look forward to meeting you Gazza, and hopefully see Lewis as well. We're shooting off to get a train afterwards, it's a shame because Dh is away at the minute. So I can't make a day of it due to the dog. We're getting into London, kings x at 13:00 and getting a train back at 17:20.

So not much time for sightseeing. Was thinking we've maybe got time to either go to Oxford st or southbank for an hour. Maybe not enough time for southbank, sure dd would love to see the new Primark on Oxford st!

Eeeeeeeeek!! Thank you soooo much grin Can't wait! Haven't told DS yet, am all ready to do it in the morning, phone will be poised and waiting.

Didn't get a chance tonight as DD2 is ill. Typical!

I shall be there 2-3pm so look forward to possibly seeing some of you there grin

GrotMags Thu 08-Nov-12 20:36:14

Another 2-3 here as well grin

hurricanewyn Thu 08-Nov-12 21:13:55

We can't go sad. The DC are both ill thanks to inconsiderate sod who sent their poxy child into school I burst into the house, all poised to do a big reveal, when DH told me DS has chicken pox & DD is looking like she'll probably get it too.

Bloody timing!!

ScorpionQueen Thu 08-Nov-12 21:17:38

We're 12-1 and will most definitely be visiting the big Primark before we head home. Haven't told the kids yet as I need to play with my phone first. I only got a smartphone 2 weeks ago for the first time and it has paid for itself already. smile

ScorpionQueen Thu 08-Nov-12 21:19:05

Poor you Hurricane. You should have kept quiet and borrowed someone's kids.

hurricanewyn Thu 08-Nov-12 21:27:48

I should've, shouldn't I. Maybe it's not too late - perhaps I should hold auditions? grin

hattifattner Thu 08-Nov-12 21:35:04

grin well my poor wee man was sat with his red raw nose, sniffing and coughing and generally feeling sorry for himself with a nasty cold.

So then I told him I knew what would make him feel better. Cue great excitement, followed by disbelief, followed by excitement, followed by clarification "Is it really for me?" followed by much bouncing on the chair.

His big brother is already negotiating access...

Thank you Mumsnet and Playstation, for making a little boy very happy! thanks

VivaLeBeaver Thu 08-Nov-12 21:50:59

Dd has got the shits, I'm stuffing her up with Imodium. She will be fine by sat.

Is someone doing voodoo dolls trying to get us to drop out? grin

Hopezibah Thu 08-Nov-12 21:58:44

I promise we are not doing voodoo dolls but we are very happy to stand in at the last minute if someone genuinely can't make it! Please mumsnet put us at the top of your standby list . Pretty pleeeease!!!!

Alambil Thu 08-Nov-12 22:05:10

DS's reaction was so weird - he went totally silent and silently giggly, then was genuinely lost for words...

I am aiming to get in to London for 1pm too, Viva - we're hot footing it down from Hertfordshire though where I finish work at midday!

I hope the trains are running ok this weekend...!

GrotMags Thu 08-Nov-12 22:22:57

Oh Hurricane sorry to hear that. Hope they get better soon

Viva she will be fine <crosses crossables>

hurricanewyn Thu 08-Nov-12 22:26:33

Thanks grotmags - I'm sure they'll be fine. I'm just glad I didn't get a chance to tell them. As disappointed as I am, that'd be worse.

Hope - I hope you get lucky!

Viva - keep that immodium going grin

TaperJeanGirl Thu 08-Nov-12 23:31:46

We are also coming grin! Not filmed the dds reaction yet as had a really busy day and late night tonight but have installed the app and will do the reveal after school tomorrow!

Squiglettsmummy2bx Fri 09-Nov-12 08:35:11

I'm 12-1 & very excited about meeting some real life mumsnetters grin

Belo Fri 09-Nov-12 08:42:20

I filmed my dd's last night. Dd1 was most unimpressed when I told her. I feel like I have a teenager in the house even though she's only 10. Dd2 looked stunned, then went crazy! What I should have filmed though was the dds telling dh. By the time he got home Dd1 had stopped sulking and trying to be 'cool' and had become super excited. They could hardly get their words out they were so eager to tell him the news.

I'm in the 1-2pm slot. I'm going to chance it with driving and hope I'll find a parking meter. I know there are some on Charlotte Street and around.

pantone363 Fri 09-Nov-12 09:05:11

Anyone else 12-1?

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Fri 09-Nov-12 11:36:55

VIVA - DONT! You want the bug to leave her system, not clog it up!

Give her immodium on sat morning if still unwell.

Having said that, I hope you and your dd have the slot after us, as we have had so much sickness I cant take any more.....

At lest, wash her hands with antibac before you go in and use the equipment, now there's a dear....

Magna Fri 09-Nov-12 11:48:15

Nc back to normal. Feel more myself not Grotty at all grin

DS1 very excited this morning going to school. We told DS2 about it and he seems unfazed happy he gets to do something with DH.

Again thank you MNHQ very happy family here smile

jes73 Fri 09-Nov-12 12:15:55

Am happy to stand in for anyone who cannot go....like that is every going to happen....

hattifattner Fri 09-Nov-12 12:35:27

pantone, we are 12-1!! COming with a ds (9) - you?

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 12:35:39

Hi. Helen I can't reply to my pm for some reason but dd seems a lot better today. Think she will be fine.

TaperJeanGirl Fri 09-Nov-12 13:38:26

Filmed my girls reaction outside school this morning, very squealy!grin

Squiglettsmummy2bx Fri 09-Nov-12 13:51:46

I'm 12-1 coming with DD(9) DS (7) & will also be wearing my regular accessory DD (9 months) grin

pantone363 Fri 09-Nov-12 14:08:05

12-1 with DD 7 and DS 5

Belo Fri 09-Nov-12 14:53:16

Has anybody had any instructions for the app yet regarding to how to upload the recordings ?

jennywren123 Fri 09-Nov-12 14:57:27

I think you need to log in to the app and then they will download the tasks this afternoon. Then we can upload our video clips.

Getting excited now!

TaperJeanGirl Fri 09-Nov-12 16:18:46

No tasks yet confused

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 09-Nov-12 16:50:37

Hi all - you should receive the tasks shortly via the app. If you haven't downloaded it yet, please do so asap!

Enjoy your day tomorrow - I'll be posting a feedback thread as soon as possible tomorrow but if you have a burning desire to add feedback before I send you the link, please add it here

Belo Fri 09-Nov-12 17:15:03

Just got my first task! Uploading video now....

gazzalw Fri 09-Nov-12 17:18:22

Havent' told the DCs yet as DD was in bed by the time I got back last night......We have been having to bite our tongues this morning and DW this pm!

hurricanewyn Fri 09-Nov-12 17:43:24

I've had 4 emails now about tasks - I'm ok to ignore them, aren't I?

(As much as I love MN I'm not sure I could tell the Dcs about the day, film it & then tell them it was a joke. I'm a cruel mummy but not that cruel).

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 09-Nov-12 17:54:15

Sorry hurricane - I had asked them to remove you but they've obviously not done that yet. Could you uninstall the app? I'll ask them again to stop emailing you. And yes, you can ignore - we wouldn't ask you to be that cruel!

Magna Fri 09-Nov-12 18:12:02

Got the tasks will start uploading later.

Hurricane how are the DC today?

hurricanewyn Fri 09-Nov-12 18:21:18

They're fine in themselves - just spotty & itchy. They seem to have a mild dose, thankfully so they're alright. Thanks for asking Magno.

Thanks Helen - will ignore.

pantone363 Fri 09-Nov-12 18:42:05

Tried to upload the reveal video but its telling me I haven't completed the brief? Is it because you need the video of the travel/talking about the event video as well?

pantone363 Fri 09-Nov-12 18:43:16

Can anyone else confirm if they have managed to upload just the video of telling the DC?

ScorpionQueen Fri 09-Nov-12 19:23:18

I'm just having a go now. I think there are 4 of us with the 12-1 slot so look forward rto meeting you tomorrow.
Now what to wear...?
If only I had the MN scarf.
smile

Belo Fri 09-Nov-12 19:23:47

I managed to upload mine. I uploaded a photo and a video.

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 19:29:19

Oh yes, MN scarf <goes to dig it out>

grin

Anyway I have a problem - can't see how to download the video. Go to the app on my Samsung Galaxy. It says to add it by either a photo or something else. If I click photo it only brings my photos up, no videos. If I click the other option it all seems to be kindle books.

The video is definetly on my phone, I've just watched it, its in my gallery with loads of my photos. But how do I get it uploaded?

Magna Fri 09-Nov-12 19:34:09

Managed to upload video.

Viva I clicked on the third option and it took me to my videos

ScorpionQueen Fri 09-Nov-12 19:34:59

There were 3 icons, oneof which looked like a film strip. I clicked that and then selected add a video. Does that help? I get DD to help me.

Magna Fri 09-Nov-12 19:37:08

That's the one Scorpion that I clicked.

The technology malarky is scary grin

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 19:42:27

Thanks, didn't notice that.

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 19:44:47

Agggh, my video isn't long enough. Needs to be 90 seconds.

ScorpionQueen Fri 09-Nov-12 19:56:35

Is it possible to film more and edit them together?

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 19:57:11

Done it. Blimey I hope the Playstation is easier to work out. I am a total technophobe!

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 19:57:47

You can 2 viseos as long as the total length is more than 90 secs.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Fri 09-Nov-12 20:02:37

My video is a little bit too long. A minute, I hope it does not matter, I am sure they can cut it. I am not able to cut. I wasted some seconds filming my floor. grin

Not sure it has "saved", I added the video, the title and the description. It wont let me upload until the next footage, I hope it is not "lost".

ScorpionQueen Fri 09-Nov-12 20:07:38

Mine is a bit long as I couldn't stop it recording at the end and the dog decided he wanted to be in it, so it may need a little bit of editing too. Girls are guilty of overacting- it was a surprise but put them in front of a camera and they will perform.
smile

pantone363 Fri 09-Nov-12 20:57:22

I can't get mine to upload still sad it just says HOLD YOUR HORSES, you haven't fulfilled the brief?! I think I have to wait until I've done the other video

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Fri 09-Nov-12 21:57:04

I think we need to do the second video on the way in before we can upload.

VivaLeBeaver Fri 09-Nov-12 22:04:16

Have I stuffed up already? grin

I did a video of me telling dd. it didn't seem to be long enough. I saw something saying you could do videos of the dc asking questions, etc so did a video of that and uploaded that as well.

Was that meant to be videoed on the way there? I'm going to do another video on the train on the way down anyway!

Doogle2 Sat 10-Nov-12 07:48:55

It's today!!!!!! Very exciting. How will I spot other mumsnetters? Oh yes we will be the ones with ridiculous smile on our faces.

Magna Sat 10-Nov-12 09:03:29

grin

pantone363 Sat 10-Nov-12 09:12:02

On the train!!! Some very excited DC here grin

gazzalw Sat 10-Nov-12 09:34:33

VivaLaBeaver when I started filming our two last night DS was cheering in an OTT manner, DD was very quiet and then burst into tears hmm!

Is your DD feeling better this morning? Hope so...

BertieBotts Sat 10-Nov-12 09:40:15

Ooh have fun everyone! envy

Squiglettsmummy2bx Sat 10-Nov-12 11:22:36

In Starbucks, so excited but my kids are so chilled on camera. grin

I DON'T WANT TO GO TO WORK sad

So unfair. We've been given a late slot (3-4) so atm DD is the only one dressed. I've made the boys shower, so they're still wandering around in towels despite me hassling them to get dressed in something nice for crying out loud I think DS1 is actually still eating breakfast...

We might have to recreate the reaction scene - I did it before we got the actual instructions, so am short with the time...

On train! Trying to film ds asking questions but it's a nightmare. Blooming tannoy announcents keep interrupting filming. This may take a while.

And other passengers looking at me like I'm a loon grin

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 10-Nov-12 12:14:48

You lot are keeping me v entertained with all these posts - the excitement is almost too much!

The event feedback thread isn't quite ready yet so please do keep your comments coming on this thread in the meantime

Magna Sat 10-Nov-12 12:19:23

In London grin

DS1 playing it cool even though he is fit to burst with excitement smile

Obviously I am not one bit excited, oh no not me Squeeeeee blush

VivaLeBeaver Sat 10-Nov-12 12:34:51

On train, but nearly missed it due to been stuck in a huge traffic jam for over half an hour. Ended up going on the verge and undertaking loads of cars. I'd never do that, shocked myself. They were all queuing to go right and I wanted left lane.

Filmed short bit on train but very noisy.

Belo Sat 10-Nov-12 12:38:02

On Charlotte St playing spot the mumsneter!

jennywren123 Sat 10-Nov-12 13:02:53

Sushi for lunch, then off to find the hotel. Have done lots of filming! Hope phone battery doesn't run out! Brought charger just in case!

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Sat 10-Nov-12 14:13:58

We are home again! It was awesome.

The boys are cleaning the living room to set up the gear. Packing away the wii (which we will now ebay).

They are so excited!!!!

We had to leave pretty sharpish after the event.

jes73 Sat 10-Nov-12 15:13:37

Sounds like great fun....lovely to hear all the news...

Squiglettsmummy2bx Sat 10-Nov-12 15:20:52

Fab time, fab game, fab start to my birthday grin

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 10-Nov-12 15:26:31

Happy birthday Squiglett!

Sounds like it was good fun!

You should all have just received an email from me with a link to the feedback thread but here's the link if you missed it - http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_product_tests/1608857-PlayStation-Wonderbook-Book-of-Spells-event-and-game-review-thread

That was bloody fantastic! The game is brilliant. It's the best game console idea I've seen in a very long time. I can't wait to get home and have another go grin

Ds currently sitting next to me on train singing "that was awesome, that was aweeesomeeeeeeee" in all different voices! The other dc are going to be amazed with it.

Thank you so much MN and Playstation.

Oh and lovely to meet some other mn'ers. Magna (think that's right?!) when you said about the woman with 5 kids poss preg again thread I nearly put my foot in it. I AM having another one but dc don't know yet. Lord knows how as it's pretty obvious as you could see I'm sure! But it was most definitely not me who started that thread!

Oh and who's daughter was it that came out of the 1-2 session I think it was, saying nothing apart from how amazing the chocolate biscuits they gave you were?! Brilliant hahahaaaaa! Btw I think you ate them all as we didn't get choccie ones sad wink

Magna Sat 10-Nov-12 15:48:37

Oops sorry Fun grin
Congratulations

Waiting for the train to go home. Amazing game can't wait to set it up and play it myself when the children go to bed grin

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Sat 10-Nov-12 16:42:28

You know what the worst part was?

The time it took from leaving the venue and getting the game installed!

I cant tear them away! Too dark to film now, but will continue tomorrow!

When they are doing the water spell, it really looks like somebody is sitting INSIDE the tv spraying water out towards us, the tv screen looks JUST like a window, and somebody is outside hosing it down.

It is the best and most advanced console I have ever seen. Well done Playstation!

Thank you so much for this opportunity!

VivaLeBeaver Sat 10-Nov-12 16:55:56

Game is awesome. Won't be home till late so won't be playing with it till tomorrow

Belo Sat 10-Nov-12 17:31:14

blush my daughter would never eat all of the chocolate biscuits......

TaperJeanGirl Sat 10-Nov-12 17:39:14

Thank you mumsnet, and thank you playstation!

We were at the 1-2 session, I had blue top, dark hair and 2 blonde girls in striped tops and wellies, they really enjoyed themselves and we're very excited to see we got to bring the ps3 and game home ( I hadn't told them they would)
Dds are having fun with the game at the min, I will film them tomorrow when they are a bit more familiar with it ( and I have had a good clear up!)

TaperJeanGirl Sat 10-Nov-12 17:41:42

Biscuit girl made me laugh, she tapped me on the shoulder and said " you just HAVE to try these biscuits, they're amazing" grin my girls were also impressed with the biscuits, I had to stop dd2 eating as on every video I was recording she was stuffing her facegrin

gazzalw Sat 10-Nov-12 19:11:04

Well we didn't go just for the biscuits but they WERE very good ;). I was very impressed with the day. The demonstrators were very good and patient if they want to adopt I'll sign the papers. Only joking. I think the game sells itself as it so interactive even for a demo. The big selling point for me is that it can sit a child down for more than 5 minutes STILL. You can immerse yourself in the virtual world. 20 years ago we dreamed of such technology and now it is here.

Doogle2 Sat 10-Nov-12 19:27:34

We had a brilliant time - thank you mumsnet and play station. The game itself is just fantastic. I am waiting for the boys to go to bed so I can play! I reckon this will be a Christmas hit. Lovely to meet some fellow mumsnetters as well.

VivaLeBeaver Sat 10-Nov-12 19:56:33

I didn't have a biscuit, dd had a bite of one and left it. Said it tasted of beer. grin

I'm shattered, forgotten how tiring I find London.

Somebody in the 2-3 session had fab boots.

hattifattner Sat 10-Nov-12 20:08:45

we are home, have set up the machine and now playing - its so clever! The puppy is a bit of an issue in our house, however, so the boys are playing around her "help"

Ive been laughing at the footage I shot at the event - "Mrs Towie"....I can see your builders bum....grin

VivaLeBeaver Sat 10-Nov-12 20:16:06

Is it easy to set the ps3 up? Do you have to connect it to the wifi, I've forgotten the password and Dh is away.

jennywren123 Sat 10-Nov-12 20:30:34

We did connect ours to the wifi, but I think you could probably skip that bit of the setup.

BertieBotts Sat 10-Nov-12 20:37:06

I have mine plugged directly into the router. No password needed that way. However you don't need an internet connection for most games, unless you want to play online.

Magna Sat 10-Nov-12 20:42:51

Yay DS in bed at long last. I have never known him so quiet shock grin

DH now playing it grin

Viva I am struggling as well. I am shattered. Fantastic day though.

VivaLeBeaver Sat 10-Nov-12 20:44:50

The routers upstairs so I can't plug it in directly. I might try setting it p after xfactor.

pantone363 Sat 10-Nov-12 21:41:12

HATTI blush I will pay VERY good money to make sure that's deleted!!!!

Alambil Sat 10-Nov-12 22:50:07

I was FAR too stressed to take any films at the event - we got there late (yes folks in the 2-3 slot, it was I and my Oh so helpful DS who walked in 15 minutes late - we didn't realise quite how much walking from Euston it would be!)

It was a brilliant afternoon though!

Alambil Sat 10-Nov-12 22:50:29

I mean films other than a 2 minute one of DS playing it... obviously (idiot)

ScorpionQueen Sat 10-Nov-12 23:56:20

We have had the most wonderful day. DD2 is in bed but DD1 is still up playing on their new PS3. The mumsnetters I met were lovely and my internet usage is now totally justified forever. Thank you so much.
smile

I've added all the bits of filming but I didnt see the part about filming other people playing the game or ds watching others play at the event, so it's saying I've not added enough content to publish it. Is this going to matter? confused

When we were there the play station man said we didn't have to bother filming the event if we didn't want to as it was so cramped and noisy. But we need it to complete the tasks! I'm confuzzled.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 11-Nov-12 08:48:57

I didn't film other people's kids either!

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Sun 11-Nov-12 09:02:17

I made a couple of really nice 2 minute videos of ds2 playing. Only to realize later that right next to him, appeared the bottom of the woman sitting sort of behind him bending forward filming her child. I did not notice until reviewing the footage later. I cant possibly pass that on.

Or can I? grin Sorry slim stylish woman with long blond hair. Your bottom will be as famous as Beyonces.

jennywren123 Sun 11-Nov-12 09:14:39

NotShort Yes, he definitely said that it was a bit too cramped and noisy to film in that room.

DS is playing at the moment, he loves the fire making spell - wonder if I should be worried about that!

VivaLeBeaver Sun 11-Nov-12 10:01:17

It was really noisy. We could barely hear the computer/tv that we were playing on due to the noise levels from the other TVs.

pantone363 Sun 11-Nov-12 10:45:00

Notquint, were you at 12-1?

NotQuintAtAllOhNo Sun 11-Nov-12 11:01:14

Yes, 12-1! grin was that you?

The room was really too small and crowded.

pantone363 Sun 11-Nov-12 11:11:39

blush you are the second person to say that have footage of my arse. Ill repeat my offer of good money if you delete it

Yes the room was far too small to fulfil the filming brief!

ScorpionQueen Sun 11-Nov-12 13:33:26

Pantone, I would focus on the fact we all thought you are stylish and attractive. I wouldn't mind showing my arse if it was small like yours (I did not film it though- I think).
smile
