We've been asked by Kingsmill to find 250 Mumsnetters and their DC to try their new Fruit and Fibre Bread

Kingsmill says "Created to liven up the usual breakfast routine, Kingsmill have launched new Fruit and Fibre bread. Made with mixed berries, apples and raisins, this delicious loaf has been designed to put a fruity twist into breakfast time. Made from a blend of wholemeal and white flour and containing 35% of your daily wholegrain it provides a great source of fibre to kick start your day."

We're looking for UK MNers with at least one child living at home to take part in this test. If you're selected to take part you will be sent 2 loaves of Fruit and Fibre bread worth £1.20 each. The product will be delivered on or around Weds 26th Sept so please only apply if you and your DC will be able to try the bread around that time. You'll need to give your feedback on a thread on MN and on a short survey w/c 1 Oct.

Please click here for more info about the product, including a full list of ingredients.

Everyone who is a tester and adds their feedback to the thread and completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £250 voucher for Debenhams.

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

Thanks and good luck

GOLDFaverolles Mon 17-Sep-12 11:52:33

Can I just add, if the comments at the end have any sway on whether we are picked or not, I wrote mine after having no sleep in the night (poorly boy).
If someone in MNHQ could tweak it to make me look an ideal fruit bread receiver, it would be much appreciated smile

Done. I'm glad it's milk free (allergic yet super hungry DS). He loves fruit bread (when we find a milk free one) but will eat a whole loaf at one sitting. Hopefully this will fill himgrin.

Done, whether we get chosen or not I need this bread!

Done - it looks good - quick and easy like toast but something with a bit of variety - yum!

CouthyMowWearingOrange Mon 17-Sep-12 19:19:51

Grrr. Yet another bread product that contains soya. Though they had no allergy information on that link - only ingredients, so I had to trawl through.

Why oh why does commercial bread all seem to contain soya?

CouthyMowWearingOrange Mon 17-Sep-12 19:20:38

Especially when it IS dairy free. Unfortunately he is dairy AND soy allergic. Humpf.

elk4baby Thu 20-Sep-12 18:33:18

My Lord, that's a very long list of ingerients. More than half of them are completely unnecessary! It reads more like them saying: "Here you go, bread with poison, in a bag!"
I bake my own bread, including a similar-type fruit bread with added fibre. The list of ingredients is about 3 times shorter than this one, and tastes fantastic! Sure, it doesn't keep long, but then, no good bread should. Maybe Kingsmill should consider putting health above shelf-life!

ShatnersBassoon Thu 20-Sep-12 19:10:24

They're a business, elk, not a public service.

Not having to make it yourself and having a loaf that lasts a few days are the reasons why people buy sliced bread ie it's convenient. We all know it's not as good as homemade, but that isn't the point in it.

Kitty6 Thu 20-Sep-12 20:16:58

Yes please

Done here too.......hope the Postmans fruity next week ;)

Tee2072 Sun 23-Sep-12 17:45:26

Excited for it being delivered today. Will it come with Royal Mail?

redlac Wed 26-Sep-12 07:44:07

Gah, I've been picked but won't be in today to take delivery!

MTBMummy Wed 26-Sep-12 09:21:29

My bread has arrived - now do I have a second breakfast or have some for a mid morning snack??? (or both smile )

Looks like it was royal mail, he knocked and was gone by the time I got down stairs, but thankully left the bread on the door step.

Chopstheduck Wed 26-Sep-12 10:32:37

my postie has been but no bread yet sad

Rikalaily Wed 26-Sep-12 11:52:31

Bread arrived by royal mail, the kids will be having it for supper tonight and breakfast in the morning, yeay!

SaraSidle Wed 26-Sep-12 12:00:32

Did you just get one loaf through the post then?

Chopstheduck Wed 26-Sep-12 12:08:09

Postie came back again and delivered two loaves in a box. Will be trying it after school smile

HecateHarshPants Wed 26-Sep-12 12:10:32

Got mine this morning. Two loaves.

Because I am such a dedicated tester grin I immediately ate some.

I had one slice 'raw' and one toasted. It toasted really well and tasted a bit bagel-like. You couldn't eat it without something on it, the slice I had straight from the packet was hard to get down.

It's nice. It's more bready (I know that's not a word!) than other fruity loaves, which can be quite heavy. It's still heavier/moister than normal bread though (understandably! grin )

It didn't have quite enough fruit in it for me. I would have liked to have seen a bit more. And maybe some seeds.

but all in all, it's really lovely! I shall try some for a ham sandwich and see what happens! [living dangerously emoticon]

Mine isn't here yet sad

fuzzpig Wed 26-Sep-12 12:13:11

None here yet <hungry>

SaraSidle Wed 26-Sep-12 12:18:26

I'm in hospital with ds right now. He fell off his bike yesterday into the road and got hit by a car. He's going down to surgery in an hour to pin his arm. He was going to love this bread!

Might freeze some for him if its freezable? Maybe the nurses will toast some for him when he can eat again? He's 14 and loves his food. Not feeling much like eating right now.

It's here gringrin

Sorry to hear about your DS Sara, hope he's feeling better soon. sad

Chopstheduck Wed 26-Sep-12 12:21:36

aww your poor ds! My son had the same op last year, hope it all goes well.

Checked and the bread is suitable for freezing. Surely he should be hom tomorrow too, and it will be a nice treat when he gets home.

ClaimedByMe Wed 26-Sep-12 12:43:11

The door went and I got excited about my bread and it was a man trying to sell me a conservatory or new rooflines!!!

fuzzpig Wed 26-Sep-12 12:59:16

Who the hell would want a conservatory when they could have fruity bread?!? angry

ClaimedByMe Wed 26-Sep-12 13:01:16

I now have fruity bread!!!!! grin

Honestly if you seen the size of my garden there is no room for a conservatory.

The fruit bread smells really nice!

None here yet - I was planning on it for lunch sad

cleanandclothed Wed 26-Sep-12 14:23:01

Mine's not here yet either sad

ShoopShoop Wed 26-Sep-12 14:26:49

Mine's here!! Two loaves - I've frozen one and will be trying out some later with some wine . How exciting!!

Sara - really hope your DS gets better soon. How scary for you all sad

Tee2072 Wed 26-Sep-12 14:33:09

Just got mine! Almost fell down the stairs going to answer the door as my slipper fell off half way down! The things I do for MN...

Also freezing one and will have some later tonight. And will feed some to son in the morning. grin

SaraSidle Wed 26-Sep-12 14:37:07

Thanks everyone! Yes,think I will freeze some as he won't be home til possibly Friday

Will go and buy some nice butter!

Ours arrived just as we were finishing lunch (very lazy postie here!). DD1 was very excited at the parcel and ate a slice straight away and asked for another - this after refusing most of her lunch!

NiniLegsInTheAir Wed 26-Sep-12 15:22:25

I had no idea I'd been accepted, got the parcel this morning and got a pleasant surprise when I opened the box. Won't get through 2 loaves quickly so I've frozen one. Can't wait to try the other! grin

fuzzpig Wed 26-Sep-12 15:59:26

Still none! Mind you we haven't even seen the regular postie for a few days hmm

Gutted I haven't got room in the freezer now as we had our Tesco delivery this morning and DH has to freeze his own bread (he's a coeliac)

Huuuuuuungrryyyyyyyyyy <sob>

goingtoofast Wed 26-Sep-12 16:08:07

I didn't get an email but did get two loaves of bread today - lovely suprise!

Ours has turned up, will try some for supper grin

llynnnn Wed 26-Sep-12 16:21:07

I have missed the delivery of mine (darned work!) won't be able to get it from the sorting office until Friday sad will it still be ok then? Really hope so!

ClaimedByMe Wed 26-Sep-12 16:37:17

It should be ok on Friday mines is dated the 29th!

BeattieBow Wed 26-Sep-12 17:17:02

ooh I've got some too - I didn't see the email from AnnMumsnet but its there anyway, and the box was waiting for me when I got back from work.

ds wants to try it already.

Emandlu Wed 26-Sep-12 17:18:16

We've got ours, the kids are currently tucking into it.

MegBusset Wed 26-Sep-12 17:39:36

Mine arrived today, DS1 refused to try it as it "smelled funny", DS2 wolfed it down toasted with butter. I have just had a slice toasted with a cup of coffee, bit disappointed with the taste tbh, I thought it tasted quite 'generic' rather than of the specific fruit, I was hoping for something tasting more like a teacake or hot x bun. Still made a change from a biscuit!

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 26-Sep-12 18:27:16

BeattieBow - can you check your junk folder? if it's not arrived pm me and I will let you know my email addy and you can maybe add me to your safe list.

Glad it's arriving!!

seabuckthorn Wed 26-Sep-12 18:35:34

Ours arrived. I'll also be freezing one.
Tried it out on my 2 dc this afternoon, it disappeared pretty quick!

modernbear Wed 26-Sep-12 20:29:43

Fruit Loaves turned up this afternoon. We all devoured a couple of slices for tea/supper.

FannyFifer Wed 26-Sep-12 20:32:18

Got our two today, yum!

We have all tried it, had some for supper me, DP, DD2, DS7 and all enjoyed it. grin

kiwigirl42 Wed 26-Sep-12 20:44:04

Mine arrived today. I've tried it untoasted with butter and toasted with butter. I really liked it both ways.

I like that fact that:

a) its not very sweet ie more bread than cake
b) its not overpoweringly flavoured just pleasantly spicy
c) the added fruit just give a zing and pop every mouthful rather than being the whole mouthful

Its yum and I'll be buying it myself when this runs out. I'm going to make bread and butter pudding with it too as think it would be delicious with this bread

BeattieBow Wed 26-Sep-12 20:50:42

Ann I did get the email - it was in my inbox, I just managed to miss it.

my dcs all tried some, as did a friend who was over on a playmate. They all loved it - we tried it both toasted and untoasted and with and without butter.

the only concern I have is that after having it (and it could be completely unconnected), dds 2 and 3 (aged 7 and 9) and ds2 (4) went a bit hyper. But I don't' know if that was due to the sugar in the bread (and they are fairly familiar with sugar) or just due to overexcitement. I suspect the latter, but I'll see if they have a similar reaction tomorrow.

my dd1 aged 11 also loved it.

Mine's not arrived yet. sad

Mine hasn't arrived sad I stayed in specially too sad the postman came but no bread, I wonder where it got too. Bet I miss it now if it comes tomorrow. Presumably they were all sent out at the same time so I wonder what happened.

Mine arrived today. The dc tried it immediately upon coming home from school.
Dd (nine)had a slice untoasted, without butter, and declared it delicious.
Ds(13) had his toasted, with butter, and said it was gorgeous.

Ds has already asked to have some for breakfast.

Dd (whose lunchtime sandwich has come back from school sitting forlornly and untouched in her lunchbox yet again) will be getting some a smidge of butter in her lunchbox for school tomorrow. Will report tomorrow smile

Dh and I love the smell of it. I am going to have some for breakfast tomorrow. Dh was impressed by the amount of fruit in it (had expected just raisins).

5inthebed Wed 26-Sep-12 21:22:18

Mine has arrived, thanks MN and kingsmill.

Tried some earlier, toasted, was ok. Will be feeding the kids it tomorrow for breakfast.

scrappydappydoo Wed 26-Sep-12 21:27:36

We got ours today - dds had some for a snack after school - liked it. I expected it to be a bit more fruity but I like rthe mix of fruit and it is v. tasty.

whojamaflip Wed 26-Sep-12 21:29:49

Got mine today too - had a quick look and it smells lovely BUT it seemed a bit stale confused. Think it will be fine toasted for brekkie tomorrow but even with loads of butter on it I think it would be way too dry to eat "raw" iyswim.

ShoopShoop Wed 26-Sep-12 21:36:02

Right - we've all tried it here.

Baby Shoop (DD 14 months) wasn't too impressed when she had it toasted with butter. I really thought it would be a hit with her as she loves dried fruit and she loves toast hmm.

DH really wasn't a fan either - said the fruit was too "squidgy".

I didn't mind it - to be honest I was expecting a kind of hot cross bun in a loaf so was slightly disappointed with the blandness and lack of spicing. However, I think it has potential so am going to go and buy some of my favourite jam tomorrow and hope that it helps!

Thanks for letting us try it though Mumsnet & Kingsmill!

IwishIwasmoreorganised Wed 26-Sep-12 21:47:44

Ours arrived at about 4pm today.

One loaf is ready to go in the morning and I've put the other in the freezer.

Will repost back soon!

Mine isn't here yet sad

NiniLegsInTheAir Thu 27-Sep-12 09:30:55

DD (20 months) and me tried some last night - we had it lightly toasted with butter and both of us ate all we'd made. DD loves bread to it seems to be a hit with her. I like it as it's a midway point between a fruit loaf (like Soreen) and ordinary bread, and I also liked that it didn't have nuts or seeds in as they get between my teeth!

Husband tried some aswell this morning for breakfast and said he liked it as it was different, and took a few more slices to work with him! He usually only eats granary bread so this was unusual for him to approve of.

Think I'm going to try it with a splash of honey tonight!

Chopstheduck Thu 27-Sep-12 10:03:30

I expected it to be a lot sweeter and agree it could do with a bit of spicing. I sprinkled some cinnamon over mine - I think allspice would work nicely too.

The older two loved it, the younger two will try it today.

I might have some more for lunch - it will make ace banana sandwiches grin

SaraSidle Thu 27-Sep-12 11:30:29

It's popular here!!

As I've been at hospital with ds 18 year old dd has been in charge. She loved it but thinks more fruit should be added.

However..... Try it as cheese on toast!! OMG! Delicious....

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 27-Sep-12 11:37:42

Hi all - just to let you know we're working on the questions for the feedback thread and will email you all when it's ready for you to add your thoughts - hopefully tomorrow at the latest!

SaraSidle Thu 27-Sep-12 11:39:29

Helen did you all get some at hq?

cleanandclothed Thu 27-Sep-12 12:20:10

Still dont have mine

I love it how it is, as does ds.
I don't agree with adding spice to it, I cant stand cinnamon grin

Still none here sad I think they have tried to deliver it though as I missed a parcel when I went to collect DS from preschool - honestly they know when you're not in I'm sure!

SaraSidle Thu 27-Sep-12 13:26:19

I have posted on review thread now

Agree, lack of spice/cinnamon makes a nice change

none here either. Hoping it arrives today as I'm out tomorrow and cant get to the post office until Monday or tuesday. (which could be bad news if its gone out of date and sat in a sorting office for a few days.)

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 27-Sep-12 13:58:38

The feedback thread is now live here:

Please go on and add your feedback when you're ready.

Mmm it's lovely just on its own with Lurpak butter grin

Lovemy3kids Thu 27-Sep-12 19:51:49

Got mine today...had one slice on its butter....delicious!! DS1 thought the same too....will be trying it toasted in a bit too xx

Got mine this afternoon - dcs love it, which is a shock as ds has food issues. They've scoffed nearly a whole loaf greedy sods

cleanandclothed Fri 28-Sep-12 14:47:20

Still don't have mine - at what point do I give up? Is it going mouldy in the post bag ?

boredandrestless Sat 29-Sep-12 16:07:13

We have ours and it's very nice! smile Will add more detailed feedback tomorrow when I have a bit more time.
