We've been asked by the team at Bisto to find up to 30 MNers (UK only) to try out their new Stock Melts. These hit the shops in Sept so testers would be among the first to try them out.
Bisto say "New Bisto Stock Melts are little portions of concentrated stock that contain real meat juices, herbs and seasoning to deliver extra depth of flavour and enhance dinnertime dishes with a richer taste. Whether your family enjoys traditional British fare such as home-made soups, pies and casseroles, or meals from other cuisines which have become British favourites like spaghetti bolognese or chicken risotto, there's a Bisto Stock Melt flavour to suit everyone.
Packed in individual pots, Bisto Stock Melts can be added directly in your cooking without the need to dilute them first - so no mess, no fuss - they just melt deliciously rich deep flavour directly into your home cooked meals."
If you're selected for the test you'll be sent a pack containing the full selection of products, as well as ingredient suggestions, recipes and kitchen utensils to help you create some delicious family meals (the pack is worth £30).
You can choose from a meat pack or vegetarian pack. In terms of any allergies: the on pack advice is: contains barley, wheat, gluten, celery.
We're looking for a range of people for this - people who cook for the family at home and who think they could include these in the regular weekly menu.
Selected testers will need to try the Stock Melts and then add feedback at least twice on what they cooked and how they found the Melts - you will be emailed a link to the feedback thread. Please only apply if you are around w/c 24 Sept to add your feedback.
In addition each tester who adds feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £100 voucher for Amazon

Thanks and good luck

Sounds like they could be yum... done!
Neat! Me please!
Done, would love food to test.
These look good
would love too - cottage pie is a staple in our house!!
Done
These look good and sound interesting
Pah. Why make them contain gluten Bisto ?
Done
Perfect time of year for this. The casserole is being dusted off for autumn as we speak.
I've signed up. I'd like to know if they have MSG int hem though and also their salt content or if they are doing a low/no salt one (small baby).
Done. I usually use Knorr, so it would be interesting to compare the two.
The gluten thing is a shame, as Knorr are GF.
Done, would love to try them in my Macaroni Cheese Pie!
done!
Done
Done.
How much salt per pot, and how many pots would you use in a recipe for 4 adults? ie what salt would be transferred to the kids?
Done!
I use Knorr Stock Pots atm so this would be a good comparison.
Done, they sound good
Done, brilliant timing as I'm gearing up for batch cooking and stocking the freezer for dc3s arrival, and winter is all about soups caseroles and comfort food!
Done and thanks
Thrown my hat in he ring.
Added my details too! Also keen to check out some new product and try some recipes to add to my staple repertoire of casseroles and pies.
Done
Done x
Signed up
Sounds intriguing - hope I get on!
Done. These sound good, perfect for slow-cooker season.
Done (well, I actually filled the form in before the school run but got distracted
)
Me too please
Probably not going to enter as DC2 is due the week you want feedback, so it's unlikely much cooking is going to get done. However, like a PP I'm interested to know what the salt content is - it'd be good to have more low salt stock options.
Done
I've signed up!
Done.
Done
Done. (Still hurt after the Phillips rejection)
Sound good - are they kept in the store cupboard or do they need to be refrigerated?
ooh!
I'd love to do this - I love Bisto (gravy is not gravy if it's not Bisto, right!)
Also interested in the salt cotntent to suit salt loving dh and salt loathing me
Done.
Will ask salt re folks - I think low salt but let me get some stats for tomorrow.
And storage.
how many carbs?
c'mon!!
Done
Done.
Could we get a full ingredient list? I'd love to but DP has a rather less common allergy than the ones listed...
Done. And the weather changing has now made me start to think of lovely, warming, autumnal food. Yum.
Done
I have entered - they sound good don't they. I'm looking forward to my first beef stew of the year as well
They don't do a gluten free one do they? My MIL has coeliac but usually uses bisto best (I think) as it's ok for her.
Done. It's coming up for slow cooker time so trying new stock would be fab!
I have signed up. DS loathes any sauces with tomato, so I have started using stock more and more. Also, forgot to say on the survey, I've recently got myself a slow cooker (finally) so want to get into trying new recipes in that, too.
done
Done! We are a family of pie and casserole lovers so hope I get picked!
Applied
I'd love to give this a go. We cook from scratch every night. Happy to have the meat or veggie version, though we probably make more meat-based recipes generally.
All done, hoping I get picked my boys are great at giving me feedback and love trying new things, I cook pretty much everything from scratch and am always looking for new ways of developing dishes.
I'm in
Done. Hope I get picked
Done,can't wait ......
<gets all autumnal thinking of casseroles, chunky soups etc>
Done. Hope I get a chance
I'm in please :-)
Pah wish they'd stop adding celery to stocks
Could you let us know if they contain MSG, palm oil or hydrogenated vegetable fats?
Done
Done i would love to try these
Done
Done.
Done.
Need to know about salt I'm afraid.
<owner of a pfb>
Would love to try these out as they sound great.
Pick me! Pick me!
Boo to them containing gluten
Done
I'm in! About to order from the local veg delivery place so some stockpots and recipes would be handy.
Done. I never get picked though!
Done
I have applied. But can't remember which pack I selected. I think it was meat.. If I am selected can I change it to vegetarian please MMHQ? Thanks
Done
Done. Got m fingers crossed
Done - sounds great given we're getting into stew and soup weather again
Done. Would be very appreciative as everyone knows it's colder ooop north
I would love to but only if they are low salt (BLW). The only low salt stocks are cubes which I don't like, or make my own which takes forever!!
Done - a veggie stock which doesn't need loads of water would be fab!
Hi
Reply from Bisto
Storage Store in a cool dry place. Once pot is opened, keep refrigerated and consumer within 2 days.
Salt Each 100ml of prepared stock contains 0.65g of salt- which is 11% of an adults guideline daily amount
Allergy advice is:
Beef
Contains barley, wheat, gluten
Chicken
Contains barley, wheat, gluten
Vegetable
Contains barley, wheat, gluten, celery
If you have specific ingredients you need me to check please can you PM me?
thanks
Have completed it! Interesting to see if they are better than the old fashioned Oxo cubes I use.
Hmmn, sounds yum. Have just bought a slow cooker, have no idea what to cook in it though so this would be great - if only!
I love cooking and I'm always trying new stuff to try and tempt my families appetite, I cook for 3 generations every Sunday so I have to please everybody, so I would love to give them a go, anything that makes my life a little bit easier is always welcome
Done, these do sounds fab! x
Yes please, I love to cook but due to my living conditions at present I'm not cooking anything
Oooh I'd love to try these - Knorr Stock pots are fab so am always on the lookout for similar!
done, hope I'm picked would really like to compare them to knorr
Done. Interestingly enough I just picked up a pack of these in tesco today.
Up for the challenge !
Think I'll do a veggie spag bol and a veggie cottage pie if selected.
I've added my name,
Sounds great, I hope i get to try
Done!
We're Oxo lovers in this house, probably bung at least 1 in most meals! Would be good to try an alternative.
I would love the opportunity to test these. I am an avid cook and pride myself on cooking homemade meals for my family. Good ingredients are very important to us. These sound fantastic as they use real meat juices. We grow our own fruit, veg and raise chickens for eggs. It is important my children understand food too.
Oh god, I've just realised. Shit, I applied for this but got Oxo and Bisto mixed up, told them I wanted to be Bisto Mum like the advert!
guess I won't be picked!
dreams that's quite funny! Ha ha!
I've done the survey and would love to try them!
In fact scrap that dreams it is BISTO!!
Done
Would also be interested to see the salt content....
It's quite salty - too salty for young children IMO (Ann posted salt content above 100ml = 11% of adult rda therefore 2/3 of a baby's rda)
Tis pretty salted. At least with cubes ou can put half or quarter of a cube in which is what we tend to do.
what a fab new product, would love to give them ago
Signed up. I love trying new stuff
Hurrah. Given it a go.. X
Count me in
HQ.... When will we hear??
Presumably early next week if they are wanting feedback w/c 24th September?
I think you might find that the salt content is comparable to the cubes, but I could be wrong.
And if they are little pots and keep in the fridge for 2 days, you can also only use part of one, couldn't you?
In any case, I really just popped on to see if people had heard yet! Guess not.
My stock cubes contain .97g salt per 100ml of made up stock, so yes please MNHQ, I'd like to stay in the list after my salt level question.
It might be 2/3 of a childs daily allowance assuming they eat food containing 100ml of stock. Mine are quite good eaters, but can't see them eating that much.
Cheers for the info, Ann
Yes its comparable to normal cubes and other stockpots but certainly not low salt which was originally said above. And 100ml is not really that much liquid to use when cooking a casserole etc - I would use 100ml between my 10 month old twins.
So won't be good for anyone with babies/younger children
Sorry, where does it say low salt? I'm not seeing it.
Ann said she thought they were low salt
'Thought they were' is hardly the same as saying 'they are low salt'!
They aren't promoting them as for babies though, are they? Yes, for families, but plenty of families don't have young children.
But if you don't want them, I'll take yours!
Yes, of course I know but I am just pointing out that these, like most stocks, are too high in salt for young children, so yes please take mine and I'll carry in using Kallo low salt for now!
It would just Venice if someone invented a low salt beef stock and I though this was going to be it when I saw the possibility they were low salt!
Doesn't Boots do one? They certainly used to! Or maybe it was only chicken...
You could make you're own?
Yes, sure if you look in the Baby Aisle in Boots they have baby/toddler suitable stock cubes - never tried them though!
ceeveebee the Kallo range does include a low salt beef stock.
Aha thank you! I've only ever seen chicken and veg ones in the shops so have had to make beef myself!
Any news on who has been chosen?
Nothing yet.
hello guys - amazing response on this one too! Names are with the client and I am awaiting them being agreed...will update as soon as I can...
fingers crossed since i missed out on the shampoo
Still no news.....?
Dare I ask - any news?
Do bear with....!
ooh should we be looking out for emails?!
anyone heard ......
No think you'll be waiting until tomorrow ;-(
It's 'tomorrow' now
so it is....
Anyone heard yet? Fingers crossed
Nothing here...
Anyone?
Sorry for delay guys - emails have just gone out. Thanks to everyone who applied...!

None here either
annemumsnet i got a card through my door today from yodel deliverys do u think it could be something from mumsnet !!!??
boo. I was really hoping for this one.
I got picked thank you
Ooh, I'm a tester! Thanks MN
Ooo I've chosen! I'm ridiculously excited (It's the first time MN have chosen me so I feel special
).
I will be off to buy some beef for my first beef stew of the winter.
I'll be sure to report back on here to let you know if it was tasty/easy - my only 2 requirements for family meals
.
Thanks Mumsnet!
Guess I didn't get this one either. Bummer.
I got a phone call yesterday, been chosen! Am planning a Cottage pie and a beef stew...
CMWO Have you had a delivery yet? I also got a call last Wednesday and still haven't received anything
I got an email saying I'd been chosen but haven't received anything yet.<fretting>
Oh thank goodness I thought it was just me who hadn't received anything yet. <angrily glares at 2 year old knorr stock cubes I shall have to resort to tomorrow night if there is no delivery>
I sent a message to Ann and she gave me a number to ring I spoke to the girl at bisto and I'm supposed to get a delivery today. I will let you know if /when I receive the parcel
I was phoned and told to expect the package, but haven't received it yet. No note from courier either, and there has been someone in the house 24/7 as I have been ill.
Ooh, just had a huge box delivered and didn't have a clue what it was! I didn't receive an e-mail, so it was a nice suprise
. I chose the meat variety and received three different boxes of stock melts, three lovely cooking utensils, garlic and rice! Now...what to cook for the tea?
.
So no, nothing here either. Have the ingredients for a shepherd's pie. Except for the stock...
I've had a delivery same as browny
Had a delivery just now. Shepherds pie here we come!!
I still haven't had mine yet, got all excited earlier when a parcel man came to my door, only to be shot down in flames when he asked me to take something in for me neighbour
I've got mine too! I can't believe the utensils!! So excited! It's like Christmas!!
Just took delivery of my box this afternoon - carrot and lentil soup will be the first experiment!
Went out on the school run and returned to my delivery, what lovely cooking utensils. I'm making cottage pie tonight, can't wait.
Just had my delivery
lovely lovely. Beefy spag bol for tea me thinks
Ooh, I should add, I didnt receive an email, though I did have a phonecall from the bisto lady. annmumsnet how do I leave my feedback?! X
Oooo I have come home from work to a huge parcel - just the same as browny describes. Too late to use today, but I will use a beef one in the slow cooker tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it now
. I think I might try the vegetable rissotto as well - there is a recipe on the back of the rice packet which sounds nice.
Wow! Absolutely gorgeous packaging, lovely cooking utensils, risotto rice, garlic and loads of stock!
Planning a chicken risotto, a cottage pie and a spag bog this week. The stir fry on the veg stock pack sounds nice too.
Love the utensils! My old fish slice had a broken handle.
I like the look of the chicken risotto, and am planning a vegetable soup too.
The packaging is better than Knorr's - you can do it up again after using one. First plus point for me!
Has anyone else tried the beefy one yet? I made meatballs in my Actifry and it was gorgeous! It was like the difference between seeing a film on telly or watching it in 3D in a surround sound cinema
I think I may be a convert
Oh noes! I killed the thread with my twattiness

Almost meatballs in an actifry? I've only ever done homemade chips in mine i think I need recipes for it Sounds like I could use some of the stock pots in it
Oh yes, soremummy - I always use the Actifry for meatballs and bolognaise and mince in gravy etc as it reduces the sauce beautifully. I just chuck in the meat, vegetables, stock, garlic and herbs and it stirs it all for you. Magic!
Where did if get the instructions from for doing bolognaise? I might try that with a beef stock pot
Um. I just make it up tbh. Usually I brown 500g of mince for 5-10 minutes then add a can of chopped tomatoes, garlic, stock, chopped onion and peppers, seasoning and tomato purée (sometimes half a jar of Dolmio
) and cook it for 15-20 minutes while the pasta is simmering. You just need to keep an eye on it in case you need to add a bit of water.
Made my own chicken risotto tonight. Added peppers and sweetcorn. Was yummy. Wasn't at all salty - in fact was less salty than the pan I made with Knorr. (Had to do two pans as DS1 can't use the Bisto as not GF).
I have decided that the Bisto are definitely more 'chickeny', and am a convert!
Yum!
Received my parcel today from post office. Tried to deliver Wednesday. Is there a link to a test feedback thread.
Like that I have meet and veggie melts as ideal for us. I don't eat meat but dh and dd do.
Love my Joseph Joseph utensils - fab bonus. Already have some and these go great.
So is next week okay to start using?
