NOW CLOSED: Want to try the new HomeCooker (worth £350) from Philips to the test? Cooks needed....

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 03-Sep-12 15:06:24

We've been asked by Philips to find 15 MNers UK based who are willing to put their new HomeCooker (and cutting tower) to the MN test! This is a brand new product and MNers will be among the first to try it.

The HomeCooker is the first in the new range of kitchen appliances that has been co-created by Philips and Jamie Oliver and is a first-of-its-kind, multi-functional device that does the preparation as well as the cooking, meaning you can cook fresh and stay fresh.

For more information please see www.philips.co.uk/e/homecooker/home.html

Philips say "Enabling you to prepare homemade meals even on your busiest days, the HomeCooker has been specially designed to achieve authentic home cooking with ease. It can chop, stir, steam and sauté and be left cooking unattended".

As Jamie Oliver explains: "We all know it can be a struggle to get fresh, homemade food on the table every day, especially for busy parents who have to juggle so much. It's often a real tradeoff between spending time with the family and getting fresh food on the table. The beauty of the Philips HomeCooker is that it removes this dilemma - you can now do both! Whether you're a beginner cook or a more experienced chef, the HomeCooker takes the pressure off in the kitchen. Because it stirs itself you don't have to stand over a stove but you can still invest all that love and creativity into your meal."

For this we're looking for a range of people - it's aimed at those who like to and want to cook fresh meals but often struggle to find the time.

If you're selected for this product test you will be sent the HomeCooker (and cutting tower) and ingredients to follow one of the recipes provided. You may also want you to try some of your favourites in it.

We'll need you to add three lots of feedback:

1) First impressions on a thread on site
2) Your opinion after you've been using it for a couple of weeks on a thread (we will add more questions to the thread)
3) A review on the MN Reviews section

So long as you do all three you will be able to keep the HomeCooker after testing (RRP £350).

We'd also like testers to send in about 5 photos of the food you create using the HomeCooker - these can be anonymous and will be used on the Philips Facebook pages

If you'd like to put it through the paces please sign up here - if you are selected we will be in touch.

Thanks and good luck

CatPower Tue 04-Sep-12 10:51:29

My dysplastic hips would love this gadget forever - no more aching, grinding and clicking when standing in the kitchen chopping and stirring! Ah, a girl can dream...

Frontpaw Tue 04-Sep-12 10:51:37

I do think the price is steep though. Pre-child I would have seriously considered it but not these days! I don't think it will sell huge amounts - far cheaper to get a mini-mixer, pressure cooker and microwave.

I do love a gadget though! I have a few fab ones but some that never see the light of day (usually because they are too big to leave out and end up at the back of the cupboard).

BornToFolk Tue 04-Sep-12 10:54:22

Oooh, I want one! I found a packet of risotto rice lurking in the cupboard the other day but couldn't face all that stirring. This looks perfect for that kind of thing.

Frontpaw Tue 04-Sep-12 10:58:16

Ot can do risotto too!! That's it, I neeeeed one! Pleeeeese pick me! I work for a charity these days and can't afford to maintain my gadget habit!

Done. What a clever machine smile

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Tue 04-Sep-12 11:16:43

Annmumsnet - My form behaved oddly too - can I check it was submitted?

Would this be any use to a person with crap disability that means they can't lift pots or chop stuff?

mistlethrush Tue 04-Sep-12 11:22:20

We currently do risotto in the oven (saves standing over it and stirring) so it would be interesting to see how it compared to that (also do ratatouille in the oven, and stews in the oven, and ... just so that they don't burn on the hob!)

MrsBitchArseUsedToBeBran Tue 04-Sep-12 11:43:10

I've been tempted by a Thermomix for ages not, but the price is very steep. I wonder if this might be a compromise, less functional but also much, much cheaper.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 04-Sep-12 11:54:16

Northernlurkerisbackatwork - yes fine
RabbitsMakeBrownEggs - do have a look at the links above as I think only you can answer that one.
Hope to let testers know asap - we have had an amazing response to this one!

Done, it looks fantastic!. smile

Done looks fab smile

Thank you Ann. I have stuck an application through, it does look like it could do a big part of what I currently struggle to do myself, so I would be quite happy to try it out. If it's good, it would be great to be able to recommend it to other people with similar difficulties. I am currently trying to put together an advice booklet for Homestart regarding coping with disability and young children, so am always open to things I might be able to include on it. grin

Spirael Wed 05-Sep-12 09:56:49

Just been obsessively reading the website again. Can I add that this product sounds like it would be perfect for cheese making!! Able to set a specific temperature and time, continuous stirring to prevent burning...

As an amateur cheese maker, I would be more than happy to demonstrate through photographs or even a video, if I were to be chosen... wink thanks wine

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 09:58:03

Pleeeeeeease let it be me, DD and DH are getting sick of microwave meals now!

TheCunningStunt Wed 05-Sep-12 13:00:48

Very popular...oh well...chances are pretty slim!

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 13:01:50

Ooh please let it be meeeeeeeeeee. I'm not above begging, y'know.

soremummy Wed 05-Sep-12 13:08:54

I'm never picked for anything sad buy id love one of these smile

Asmywhimsytakesme Wed 05-Sep-12 13:09:53

Please pick us gringrin

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 13:42:19

I doubt begging at this point is going to change the outcome but I'm feeling the peer pressure wink

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:45:05

I think if you beg you should be automatically disqualified.

Therefore, I am not begging.

I may be pleading, though.

grin

Do we get an email when if we're picked?

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:50:54

Usually, OOMTCO.

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 13:51:02

<sits on Tee>

grin

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 05-Sep-12 13:53:06

Do you get extra points if you beg or something? confused

I hope I get picked. I love gadgets!

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:55:16

Pinot, why are you always sitting on me?!?! Don't you know I have a bad leg?!?!

grin

Where you been, girl? I haven't seen you in ages.

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 13:57:06

<<soothes poorly leg>>

I've been on my holidays, lovely smile Feels like a lifetime ago now and I've been avoiding the mad trolls round here smile How are you, tootyfrooty? <mwah>

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:04:47

Somewhere nice? Why didn't you take me? smile

I'm okay. Hoping the impending rain holds off until A Small Boy™ wakes up from his nap so we can run to the bank and the market.

::MWAH::

What's all this kissing? I'm feeling left out envy

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:02

::MWAH:: OOMTCO

Better now?

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:27

hussy! wink

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:33

Here's a wet sloppy one mwwwwweaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:08:43

Busted! grin

TheCunningStunt Wed 05-Sep-12 14:29:08

Are mnhq picking or are Phillips? so I know who to send this basket of muffins and wine too just curious

Ahhh... yes, better grin

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:29:31

Ahem MNHQ, some of us are actually patiently waiting for the results from the MN Jury and paying attention. You might notice that some of the applicants have been distracted and are now snogging in a corner. Therefore, if I were you I'd be seriously doubting their dedication to the cause. I think you can rule them out.

Thank you smile

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:31:13

I'm actually getting a bit hungry now. So is DS

BlackberryIce Wed 05-Sep-12 17:33:02

Are we supposed to hear today?

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:34:39

I already have. Yippee!

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:34:54

I hope we find out soon. I've got to get the dinner on and I'll hold off on it if there's a shiny new gadget coming my way. Don't want to dirty the chip pan for nothing...

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:35:07

Fibber grin

Aw have you? That means I won't be a chosen one sad

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 17:37:19

If it's been popular, Ann will no doubt be wading through tonnes of applications tearing her hair out and shaking from all the coffee.

TheCunningStunt Wed 05-Sep-12 17:40:16

It usually takes a while before they send out emails...or in my case...don't send me an email wink

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 17:40:36

Well I think you're the only one!

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:52:54

Yes. Jamie is bringing it around himself. He just called me 'Sister', he says 'I'm bringin' it raaaaand ta ya m'sel, coz you're so cool. Just don't tell Joolz'.

True.

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 17:53:35

hmm

grin

PseudoBadger Wed 05-Sep-12 18:01:05

Oh thank god you're lying grin

BlackberryIce Wed 05-Sep-12 18:14:29

Well that made me check my email anyway!

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:14:31

I've had another read of that info and now I'm wondering whether it really as adaptable....

<<immune to expensive and shiny>>

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 18:26:25

I'm resisting looking too much at the website as I'll only be more disappointed if when I don't get picked if I've spent ages drooling over it.

Looks like it might save me buying the Food Processor and the Slow cooker I've been saving up for though which would be amazing and would save a lot of cupboard space too.

Jux Wed 05-Sep-12 18:27:38

Well, I've had another look at it, and I've decided that I'll still let them give one to me.

<not immune to expensive and shiny>

5inthebed Wed 05-Sep-12 18:29:17

This is like the fridge tester thread all over again

F5 F5 F5!

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 05-Sep-12 18:31:18

Looking at some of these posts, I'm not sure that my begging application was good enough. sad

SheelaNeGig Wed 05-Sep-12 18:31:34

Well?

Well?

poorbuthappy Wed 05-Sep-12 18:32:41

Surely it's too late to hear today??!confused

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 18:33:33

Nah. They keep them chained to the radiators at Mumsnet Towers, so I hear.

I rubbed my USP all up in their faces, and followed it up with selling my soul to Jamie Oliver. Might as well tell 'em why you think you'll be a good tester and really put the product through it's paces. Me and my PA are waiting with baited breath to see if we get a shiny new toy to play with.

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 18:36:53

PA!? You'll be disqualified then. No helpers...

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:38:01

Isnt down to Zphillips to choose based on what demographic they require?

Therefore making the begging, pleading and foot tapping somewhat unnecessary and somewhat demeaning? [grin{

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:39:04

It down to Phillips

And

grin

Blardy phone!

I can see there being some epic tantrums on here in the near future! grin

but not from me cos I'm getting picked

I want one sad

Fillybuster Wed 05-Sep-12 19:56:02

I'm so not going to make the grade, even though I really really want one....should have spent some time copying reading everyone elses' 'pick mes' before I filled the form, not after sad

Flisspaps Wed 05-Sep-12 20:02:38

I've got everything so crossed that I'm going to fall over...I didn't beg very much (I didn't know we were supposed to) but I did manage to almost burn the leeks for a pie yesterday trying to deal with DD and DS at once yesterday and it's only going to get worse once I'm working!

I need my PA. sad Does that really disqualify me? Although if the product is as good as it claims, I may manage without her a bit more often. She already lost four hours a week to a mobility scooter, she'll be peeved if she loses another seven to a wonder cooker. grin

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 20:25:04

Ah I thought you were a high falootin' business woman with a PA filling out your forms as you steered the country out of the recession. Of course, maybe you are...

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 20:36:33

I sued to be a PA...does that disqualify me?

I'll never get to do it as they never like to ship to NI. It's like we're in a different country or something...

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 20:37:10

Used to be...I have never sued someone who was a PA or ever sued anyone, actually.

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 20:40:11

Right good, that's Tee off the list. Anyone else want to declare themselves out? grin

Asmywhimsytakesme Wed 05-Sep-12 20:55:26

Aaaagghh the waiting is killing me!

SirBoobAlot Wed 05-Sep-12 21:24:15

<big fluttering eyelashes>

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 21:47:43

take those off, Boobs, you hussy!

BlackberryIce Thu 06-Sep-12 09:41:51

Is today the day??

SirBoobAlot Thu 06-Sep-12 09:43:33

Sod off, honey, they're real!

wink <with gems on>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 09:52:37

<tries to sit and wait nicely without wiggling>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 09:55:49

I see you shiver with antici…

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 10:05:56

I'm now singing The Timewalk. At my desk. In the office.....

Damn you Blathers grin

fidgets

BellaOfTheBalls Thu 06-Sep-12 10:09:33

<Pretends not to refresh email every 30 seconds>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 10:12:43

At least I'm keeping you amused while you wait Filly wink

Ahem, MNHQ, I think you must have misspelled my email address wink

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 10:22:16

I'm not looking anymore....I do have a life you know!

SandWitch Thu 06-Sep-12 10:27:43

Right, can I ask all the questions now that will make me look like a bad looser if I am not picked?

Who chooses - MNHQ or Phillips?
Do MNHQ send Phillips a random selection of responses and then they choose?
Did we have to impress MNHQ and Phillips?
<<head explodes...>>

Can I ask for a PM from anyone who does get picked with hints on how to have a better chance next time?
<<looser emoticon>>

dh thinks I spend far too much time on here - but if I win I get to spend as much time as I like and he will eat better - it is win-win grin

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 11:16:21

Do you mean the Time Warp? confused

GWenlockMaryLacey Thu 06-Sep-12 11:19:19

Oh no. I just realised I deleted my spam emails last night without thinking and it would have been in there by accident. Would you mind sending it again? Thanks.

<clever> grin

OMG! I've just checked my spam folder.....!

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:28:45

and it was empty?

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 06-Sep-12 11:29:38

Chanting MNHQ - make the choice!!!! grin

Damn right Blather sad

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 11:35:47

blush

Warp. Not Walk.

Must learn to read what I type before hitting 'post'.

<hangs head in shame>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 11:36:44

<pulls knees in tight>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:37:23

I understood what you meant Filly smile

C'mon MNHQ. Every time I get an email I get butterflies and it turns out to be nothing but junk mail sad

have they chosen yet?? Am a bit slow..

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:52:24

No they haven't!

I'm going out for my own sanity...

Pinot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:00:52

I missed out on the Hoover, the Serum, the Hair Products so have everything crossed for this smile smile

The last thing I got was, I believe, the anti wrinkle cream grin

libelulle Thu 06-Sep-12 12:06:00

I've never won anything, ever <waaaiiil>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 12:06:57

Pinot, I'll trade you the limited remains of my serum for this cooker - deal? grin

Pinot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:07:31

haha Filly no chance grin

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 12:15:37

Have they picked yet? Like so many others, I never get picked/win anything sadsadsad
laying it on thick

BIWI Thu 06-Sep-12 12:17:46

I have gin

<knows how to get MNHQ interested>

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:21:37

I'm going to hold my breath until I am picked angry

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:22:55

Bloody hell is it still down loading?

libelulle Thu 06-Sep-12 12:24:30

good plan ohnomyfoot. Hfffpmfp <sound of breath holding>

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 13:29:30

Nothing yet?

I think they are just messing with us now...

MisForMumNotMaid Thu 06-Sep-12 13:30:08

Can this please be like that episode of Opera when she told everyone that two lucky people had one a car and to check under their seats for an envelope, but she'd put them under every seat?

Could you sell the idea to Phillips, think of the potential free publicity and positive feeling that would be generated.

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 13:37:51

Ooh Mis <keeps everything crossed> hope so!

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 14:03:39

<not sure how much longer I can last>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:04:59

Back from gazing longingly at the kitchen gadgets in John Lewis shopping and still nothing!?!

<sobs>

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 14:14:15

Mis that's a great idea. A veritable army of mum's telling the world how bloody fantastic the thing is.

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 14:19:22

See today I could use it. We have many clubs to attend right after school which results in rubbish meals getting cooked as its tea then bed as time goes by so fast! But I could use this machine to cook whilst I sort the kids out! I so could have tested it todaygrin

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 14:22:46

oh damn that stray apostrophe.

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:25:57

Mondays are the day I need it most. DD swims in the morning and then DS goes straight from school in the afternoon and we get back too late to start cooking anything more involved than plain pasta or a frozen pizza. If I could bung stuff in the Homecooker between the lessons, we could have a proper meal ready and warm for when we get back.

FalseStartered Thu 06-Sep-12 14:31:40

i've changed my mind

i think Jamie Oliver eats ready meals and Philips all smell

<reverse psychology>

grin

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 14:35:46

I think what they are afraid of is a bevy of mums telling the world it's crap.

It's not like we're not honest reviewers around here.....

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 06-Sep-12 14:53:06

Ladies and gents....no news yet - sorry! I've sent off a shortlist to Philips and they will make the final selection...am just awaiting the final folks to come back to me. You're making me nervous with all this chat!

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 14:54:16

You're making us nervous with the waiting, Ann!!! grin

How short is the short list? What criteria was used to make it?

::nosy::

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:58:32

You could put some of us out of our misery Ann....?

PseudoBadger Thu 06-Sep-12 15:06:26

Yes. We need to know if we're not on the short list. Tell us <threatening>

if I'm on the list then I'm really really sorry for being so rude

short list? blimey this is scarier than waiting for a school place!

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 15:19:46

Ooh thought I'd been picked when I saw a Mumsnet email, but no, it's the parenting news email angry
Come on MNHQ, give us some clues to the short list. thanks wine [gin]

Gauchita Thu 06-Sep-12 15:23:23

::crosses fingers:: ::sends gin thanks to Ann::

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:26:48

Oh for goodness sake. Just do it alpohanetically by surname - Frontpaw Aaaaardvark's the name.

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 15:34:59

Shortlist??? You're toying with us now....!!! grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:38:45

I've just had an email from MNHQ...about parenting news. I looked at who it was from, and was sooo excited. Then I looked at the title. That's mean! sad

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 15:39:02

Short list !? Balls. I never make lists. Apart from ones of things I need to remember. blush well goodluck everyone

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:39:47

I didn't get on the other list either. Here I sit, cold headed and hungry... Waaaahhhhh

Will someone keep me off this thread please.

BTW I heart Philips grin

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:42:07

I could use it today... Late from work, running to get DS, dragging him off to class so we won't be home until late. DH working late...

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Thu 06-Sep-12 15:45:48

So have those on the short list been emailed then? sad

5inthebed Thu 06-Sep-12 15:53:31

Can we know the short list please? Or at least the specifics that Philips were looking for?

I've always liked the name Philip. Should I ever have another son he shall be called Philip grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:55:00

I have a pet rock called Philip (or rather I will when I go and get him from the garden) grin

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 15:55:09

Please put us out of our misery. I don't think I've ever checked MN so much in 48 hours in my life.

I had a pet frog called Philip. But I think I ran his leg over with the wheelie bin yesterday sad

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 15:57:13

My DS is called Philip and DD is Philippa not -really--
<grovels at person in charges feet>
grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:57:54

I'm willing to get my name changed to Philipa grin

I will change my children's names to Phillip and Phillipa? And get Philips tattooed on my forehead as a permanent sort of advertisement? grin

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:07:58

I haven't checked my email so much since the fridge freezer offer. I'm still bitter about that.

I think if I don't get this I may just pretend I have and write terrible reviews everywhere.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:10:31

I really need a new hoover, Biscuit. sad

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 06-Sep-12 16:10:41

I am saying nuffink more about shortlist. It's all out of my hands now...will be no news til tomorrow now I am sure (does that help!?)

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:13:04

Erm...no.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:13:14

grin

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:14:28

AnnMumsnet - I make super luffly cakes....grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:15:18

You won't need something to help you cook then, will you NormansDad? grin

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:16:46

I doooooooo! I can't make proper food! Only cakes <narrows eyes>
Or can we live on cake?

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:17:09

Oh yes, the hoover too. sad

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:18:02

Of course you can live off cake!

I can't cook. I grate my fingers and forget I'm cooking so things burn. You should feel sorry for ds. sad

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:19:44

My DD will have to live on Turkey Twizzlers if I don't win this.

Will nobody think about the children???

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:20:07

I've had 3rd degree burns because I didnt realise the oven tray would be hot! blush
House reeked of burnt flesh for months <exaggeration? Moi?>

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:25:23

You can cook turkey twizzlers without burning them? shock I just send ds to the chippy.

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:27:10

Of course I burn them, it adds to the flavour.

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:29:23

Also, the smoke alarm is a handy reminder that they are ready to eat.

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 16:31:31

Surely they're going to want to have it tested by people who can cook too?

They wouldn't have got Jamie to make recipes for it otherwise. They want pictures of lovely, delicious looking, home made food coming out of these things not you lot lobbing chicken dippers in them and looking all confused when the recipe calls for capers or something.

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 16:35:50

See, in the US? Twizzlers are red licorice candy.

As I have never seen a Turkey Twizzler in real life, I'm imagining all sorts of odd meat and sweet combinations...

I hope they want people who can cook or I really am out before I even start!

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:40:42

I knows what capers are! <offended> it's what the DC do when they're supposed to be going to bed! grin
Just kidding, I love the idea of cooking fabby meals etc, but shortage of time and skills bugger it up.
<eyes up pile of cookbooks and foodie mags in corner>

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 06-Sep-12 16:53:42

Ann I hope you are braced for over a hundred weeping and wailing MNetters when the short list is revealed grin

Can someone tell me where you can buy turkey twizzlers? blush I remember having them in school and want to see if they taste like I remember. grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:05:51

Try Iceland, SchrodingersMew. I refuse to cook those, there's so little turkey in them they must breach the trades descriptions act! grin

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Thu 06-Sep-12 17:08:32

Capers go in the mayo when you are having fish fingers instead of chicken nuggets, innit. grin

I don't think Turkey Twizzlers have ever even been within 30miles of a real turkey!

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:18:48

Hot dogs in a can don't actually contain dogs, you know. Nor do they contain a lot of meat. Canned meat balls are just as bad.

I'll have a look in Iceland, thanks LadySybil grin.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:27:00

Failing that, there's also FarmFoods possibly?? confused

None in Farmfoods. sad I've checked...

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Thu 06-Sep-12 17:52:20

They do have in Icelands Findus Crispy Pancakes, which are nothing like actually pancakes, but might be a secret bad habit of mine. Plus you can buy Greggs stuff and cook it yourself, imagine that - homemade Greggs sausage roll! grin

Homemade Gregg's sausage rolls are so much better than shop made ones! And the apple pastry things are amazing, especially with carte d'or vanilla ice cream <drools>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 21:51:45

I made toad in the hole last night - and then made extra Yorkshire puddings and had them with cream and golden syrup <drools>

They're amazing but very, very bad

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 23:04:47

You may as well give them a pot noodle for supper. You can't go wrong with noodles.

I need this!!! My children need this smile

No news?

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 09:00:29

Do you think if I marched into Recipease and told them I was there to pick up my HomeCooker that would work?

I made a chilli last night and had to keep sitting down. Would have been so much easier with the home cooker.

<hopeful emoticon>

Will you pick mine up while you're there, Paw?

Gauchita Fri 07-Sep-12 09:34:27

No news yet? Phone beeps with emails and I'm hoping one is from MNHQ about this grin

Chopstheduck Fri 07-Sep-12 09:35:27

Oh it's closed, the anticipation! I really want to do this one.

mistlethrush Fri 07-Sep-12 09:37:56

Gauchita - can I borrow yours for a play if you get it - and vice versa?

Gauchita Fri 07-Sep-12 10:06:38

Mistlethrush, of course! smile

Is it today we find out?

Ann said yesterday there would beno news til tomorrow.

Asmywhimsytakesme Fri 07-Sep-12 10:17:08

Marking place and ready for taking part in chorus of gnashing of teeth.

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 10:18:09

I nearly cried when I got to work and there was no email from MNHQ in my inbox. Then I checked the thread and realised that was only because they hadn't sent it to me yet......grin

I have 18 guests for lunch tomorrow....last night I made:

2 x lemon tarts
1 x enormous danish-style apple cake with plaited top (British Bake-Off style)
1 x lamb stew
1 x beef bourgignon
2 x minced beef strudels
1 x pickled brisket
2 x roast chickens

and I kept thinking how much easier life would have been with the Philips cooker, especially with all the chopping, slicing, stirring etc for the lamb stew....

<dreams>

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Fri 07-Sep-12 11:36:51

I just want to let MNHQ know that I'm at work today, and can't get access to my emails until I get home about 6pm. Please please don't put a time limit on a reply, if I am <bows head> bestowed the honour of getting this fabulous product thingy. <needy-and-desparate-pleading-face smiley required here>

Time limit for 6.15pm is fine, just not before. smile

<sitting with legs, arms, fingers and toes crossed. Keels over as whole body goes into cramp>

gazzalw Fri 07-Sep-12 11:47:02

Excuse the analogy but a watched pot never boils grin!

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 07-Sep-12 11:47:59

Further update - no news today I'm afraid - all been a bit hectic at Philips and so it will be Monday before we can confirm who has been picked <am dreading the sad faces for those who haven't>.
Have a great weekend folks and sorry for the delay.

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 11:48:56

S'OK Ann. Worry not, I shall sit on all those that moan. That'll learn them <readies bigus butticus>

LaVitaBellissima Fri 07-Sep-12 11:56:54

I can try and relax till Monday hmm

Ann, can you tell us how many people applied? I'd like to work out my odds grin

LaVitaBellissima Fri 07-Sep-12 11:58:11

That was meant to be an confused not a rude hmm aarrgghh I really want one <pouts and sticks out bottom lip>

Ann - how about releasing the short list, aand then we can all go and start saving up for one instead grin

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Fri 07-Sep-12 12:05:56

Well I know I won't be picked. Just heard I didn't get the promotion I ws interviewed for on Wednesday and am plainly unemployable numpty who can't cook either.

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:07:06

Oh Northern sad Sorry lovely

OhNoMyFoot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:09:54

Shall I just pick then?

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Fri 07-Sep-12 12:10:37

Thanks. I think I would like a pity party sad. I was a bit ambivalent about applying as it was only a temporary post but then my manager said I could have a secondment and I thought 'ooooooh'. There just aren't many opportunities in my sector at the moment and I can't even get an interview for posts a bit higher up. Really fed up.

This has nothing to do with Phillips though. Mssive thread hijack - sorry.

Tee2072 Fri 07-Sep-12 12:21:07

Wait wait wait, Pinot, whenever you sit on me it's meant to be a torture?!?

I thought it was because you luffs me!!!!

::wwwwaaaiiillll:::

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:55:00

Well when I sit on you, I shall also stroke your hair. See? I'm all about the love <<soothes>>

Blatherskite Fri 07-Sep-12 13:01:37

Ann, if I didn't make the shortlist, could you PM me and let me know? It's going to be a long weekend.....

Maybe the kerfuffle at Philips is because they're trying to find extra machines so that everyone on the shortlist gets one as they've seen how popular it might be? <hopeful>

iklboo Fri 07-Sep-12 13:04:14

Look on the bright side - gives us something to look forward to on Monday grin.

ElectricSoftParade Fri 07-Sep-12 13:12:33

You would think Philips would consider more than 15 wouldn't you? I mean, the gadget already appears popular with all of us, just think of all the word of mouth advertising they would get. As well as the home demonstrations we would all be showing our friends? Sales would be through the roof!

Just a thought Philips grin.

notso Fri 07-Sep-12 13:15:07

I think those who get them should cook deliciousness for those who don't!

Jux Fri 07-Sep-12 13:20:06

I have a huuuuuuge number of friends who have the sort of incomes that would allow them to buy this if I were to test it ...... (hoping that if someone drops out of the short list I'll get put on. What do you mean, it's not like choosing a school?)

alemci Fri 07-Sep-12 13:26:02

it looked really good didn't it. yes we can all start saving up. i would love to know the odds too and how many people applied.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 13:40:28

Philips needs more than 15. Basic marketing really. Word of mouth from 15 happy campers, of 200 of us moaning about the company as a whole?

Wolfcub Fri 07-Sep-12 13:50:12

I can't wait until Monday <impatient>

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 13:54:44

Going from it's popularity on this thread, Philips won't need to do any marketing/testing because they know it's going to be a hit!

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 14:09:57

Unless there is some major electrical or blade fault... Definately need more guinea pigs!

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 14:25:48

<wiggles out from under Pinots enormous arse backside>

Frontpaw - I don't think you're supposed to put guinea pigs in it, even if the blades are faulty....confused....or did I miss that bit on the website? grin

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 14:33:31

Is that where I'm going wrong with my pastry? They are tricky to clean off the blades of my magimix.

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Fri 07-Sep-12 14:53:13

Please don't use guinea pigs in your cooking. NOOOOOOOOO! shock

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Fri 07-Sep-12 15:01:49

Just received mail from Mumsnet. Can you imagine how my heart leapt, and then dropped when I discovered it wasn't my message to let me know about being chosen to take part. blush

Rabbits - I did that too!

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 15:54:48

They are playing with us... Not nice.

Asmywhimsytakesme Fri 07-Sep-12 16:01:29

Cruel. Cruel sad grin

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 17:45:05

You lot are stark raving bonkers. Bonkers.

I suspect most of the interest has come because it is a expensive shiny gadget to test like the XBox.

Blatherskite Fri 07-Sep-12 17:53:08

I didn't get an Xbox either sad

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 17:56:55

See ^ bonkers wink. You are at the mercy of the mighty markety people who are not reading this thread.

That pleasure is down to poor Ann grin

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 18:23:01

Those bastard mighty markety people... Oh hang on, that's me! Sadly I never marketeyed anything remotely exciting.

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 18:27:14

No x box, no face cream, no hoover, no dyson, no Aveda shampoo... sad

peggyblackett Fri 07-Sep-12 18:39:48

I can't believe we have to wait the weekend sad <practises sad face as I never win anything on MN>.

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 18:53:48

<quickly hides xbox, serum and face cream under many pages of mighty-marketing-y-type cv>

Actually I want to try this gadget cos it looks bloody useful....I'm very not into gadgets unless they add something to my life smile

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 19:06:41

Well, <puts marketey researchey hat on> if they really want to do their research properly, and make it statistically significant, they need to ask at least 100 of us to test it.

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 19:08:53

Good point, BIWI. I detest adverts which claim that 98% of people loved their product when the small print says only 10 people tested it. It's pointless.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:00:50

I'd say 15 is definately statistically insignificant and I am very very very worryingly good at research and stattey marketey stuff.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:01:38

I'd say 15 is definately statistically insignificant and I am very very very worryingly good at research and stattey marketey stuff.

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 21:02:47

So good you had to tell us twice! To make doubly sure ...

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:16:02

Always double check your stats. Or I was just using the crapberry.

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 21:19:06

grin

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 21:43:41

You know they could be using other forums.....

Like Piston Heads, Bounty and NetMums. Why not sign up and join in there too grin

LadySybildeChocolate Sat 08-Sep-12 10:35:02

But we could end up with 3/4 if we do that. That wouldn't be fair, I only want one.

BiscuitNibbler Sat 08-Sep-12 16:41:41

My mum says this was reviewed in the Daily Mail today, and it said it is 250 pounds in John Lewis, not 350. It got a good review apparently.

5madthings Sat 08-Sep-12 16:52:58

were the shortlisted peeps emailed? so if we werent emailed we werent shorlisted?

just clarifying. i should also check my emails.

SirGOLDBoobs Sat 08-Sep-12 16:58:24

I think there's been a problem, I didn't get an email...

grin

<sobs>

poorbuthappy Sat 08-Sep-12 17:54:42

The short listed people have not been emailed.
It's £250 for the cooker thingy and £100 for the blender thingy. So I think it's both bits??

BiscuitNibbler Sat 08-Sep-12 18:29:37

Oh! Well you would need both bits, wouldn't you? Odd that they are priced separately.

I think I will get confused with it (when I get selected of course) grin

Tee2072 Sat 08-Sep-12 21:07:08

Yes, it's both bits, the cooker and the chopper thing.

No emails until Monday....

Frontpaw Sun 09-Sep-12 10:55:50

Soooooo looking forward to tomorrow and my new toy! What shall I make first? I have Jamies meals in minutes book and everything.

Blatherskite Sun 09-Sep-12 11:05:09

I bet the Jool's pasta recipe from the 30 minute meals book would be a breeze in the Homecooker. No more grating carrots and celery with a box grater! It tastes really good too - one of Dh's favourites but I hardly ever make it.

Frontpaw Sun 09-Sep-12 11:08:31

When did she start cooking? Or rather why if you're married to a chef?

Blatherskite Sun 09-Sep-12 11:15:47

It's the pasta sauce he made for Jools when she was pregnant and had a craving for Ragu according to the book.

She must do a lot of cooking as she has 4 kids to feed and a husband who is often off cooking in restaurants or galavanting off round the world making TV programs. I believe he thinks her cooking is rubbish though.

<sits nervously awaiting MN email>
Is it wrong that I checked my email just now to make sure?

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 07:15:47

Marks place smile

BiscuitNibbler Mon 10-Sep-12 07:45:45

Is it wrong to mention that today is my birthday? Surely you wouldn't want to upset me on my birthday?

BonnyDay Mon 10-Sep-12 07:46:43

Christ. You look pitiful. It's a bloody cooker.

It's a magic Cooker that chops and stirs and stuff. Like in "the sorceror's apprentice"

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 07:50:52

And see how well that worked out for Mickey Mouse!

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 07:56:40

ooh ooh ooh is today the day?!!

MNhoneydragonHQ Mon 10-Sep-12 08:01:11

I am hugely confident for once that one of these will not be coming my way. It really is like the fridge and Xbox all over again grin

ColouringIn Mon 10-Sep-12 08:01:57

Ooh am I still.in with a chance then?

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 08:34:51

Bonny, is your technique to try to scare away the opposition so you can grab the cooker for yourself?

grin

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 08:36:07

But some must win honey!

ColouringIn Mon 10-Sep-12 08:37:41

No email yet! Shurely some mistake grin

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 09:05:27

They probably start work late in the marketeying department at Philips.

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 10:02:28

They are probably busy reading the thread and laughing as they sort us according to their checklist criteria eg social group xyz.

MNhoneydragonHQ Mon 10-Sep-12 10:09:12

As we are here though, once people have been chosen the rest of us should post recipies for the testers to try, I bet a few of you obsessive weirdos have been secretly meal planning wink

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 10:12:25

i dont imagine i will be picked either but i still have my email inbox open in another tab ready to refresh every few mins blush

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 10:15:09

Forgot today was the day we might find out.

Good luck everyone.

Wolfcub Mon 10-Sep-12 10:40:34

I made risotto primavera last night and I was thinking how good it would be to test it in the home cooker (yes I am one of those obsessive weirdos!)

Oo hope we find out today!

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 10:47:20

well i have got two emails, neither of them from mnhq tho sad

come on we need to know!

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 11:00:14

That's a really nice idea honey - I want to know if it can do something like risotto - would be do much easier than stirring yourself!

IwishIwasmoreorganised Mon 10-Sep-12 11:09:29

No e-mails here either.

DS1 (6) is wondering if he could make he own scrambled eggs using this.

We can't be kept waiting much longer surely &#128521;

I love risotto but the ready meals are not vegetarian am too busy lazy to stir.

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 11:51:17

Did my email get lost in the post?

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 11:55:36

I've never made a risotto. I struggle with mashed potatoes sometimes. blush

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 12:05:28

I only do oven risottos but would love to make a proper one.

I was wondering about scrambled eggs too smile

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 12:07:54

How do you do risotto in the oven? Don't you need to keep stirring it? Risotto is mny fave - even had apple risotto (nicer than it sounds)!

mistlethrush Mon 10-Sep-12 12:12:00

You bung the risotto rice and uncooked veg in a stoneware dish with the normal amount of water and bung it in the oven blush

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 12:12:52

I've had a few emails, my iPad dings when I receive one, and I've made a mad dash to look. Apparently my eBay order has been dispatched, not the email I wanted, but hurray!

Tee2072 Mon 10-Sep-12 12:15:57

No word yet?

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 12:22:42

i have had more emails and some into my junk email, checking both but nothing from mnhq yet it had better come before i have to go do the school pick up later!

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 12:25:15

Maybe they are discussing the fact that we are all so marvelous, we each ought to get one.

Teladi Mon 10-Sep-12 12:26:11

I did get an email from MNHQ which got me inordinately excited until I realised it was just a response to me reporting some spam that was posted earlier. It was very polite of them though.

Blatherskite Mon 10-Sep-12 12:36:16

I usually oven baked risotto too but I think the Homecooker could be perfect for doing a proper hob one without all of the stirring, maybe even a Paella?

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 12:36:52

I want I want I want I want I want
I NEEEEEEED!

Channeling a three year old. Will start hauling teddies out of the window next.

It's a right tease, this! I bet we don't find out today.

No emails yet? sad Have been frantically checking emails.

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 12:40:38

I dare not cook a risotto. I tend to forget the time, and by the time I remember I was cooking the 'food' has turned into something the swamp monster would turn his nose at. I blame mumsnet for distracting me my lack of time awareness.

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Mon 10-Sep-12 12:49:13

I hope those who do get picked let us know they've got their emails. At least then I can drag myself away from my netbook return to normality. And sulk a bit 'cos I've not been picked. I wish it had been 1st come 1st served. I'd be in then. No. 7 me. 7th. <hand to brow, wails a bit>

Tee2072 Mon 10-Sep-12 12:52:17

7th to post on thread does not mean 7th to apply! I don't always post on the thread when I do one of these!

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 12:56:31

It would also be unfair on those of us who didn't see this thread until after work/the school run.

I thought that was it, I'd been unsuccessful . Obviously not emailed out yet then?

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 13:06:04

they dont do it like that tho as we dont all see the thread at the same time. we just all get put in and they either choose who they like or they draw them randomly and its not mnhq qho chooses its the company doing the testing.

any other way would be unfair.

and i also often apply for these things and dont post on the thread, partly as i dont want to bump it up so it gets seen more and then more people may see it and apply blush but this one was a pinned thread anyway.

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 13:06:45

no emails yet glitter if you get one and i dont, when i visit i expect to be able to have a good look grin

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Mon 10-Sep-12 13:16:45

erm, I wasn't being entirely serious. Clutching at straws is the phrase most appropriate I think. I know posting 7th doesn't mean being 7th, I'm just trying to garner some sympathy to see if I can get a 'ooh, bad luck, here's an extra home cooker thingy that was just lying around doing nowt, seing as you just missed out' type of response from MNHQ/Phillips/Jamie's missus I heard she was a MNetter. Or something. Hey, we are all showing our desparate side here, why not me too? grin

Pleeeeeease pick meeeeeeeee Philips...

5mad if I'm lucky I'll let you TOUCH it n'all wink

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 13:49:10

jumps up and down excitedly grin

i soooo WANT ONE!!! me me me me me!! i need one, i soo do!

i wonder what their target market is and how they are picking people?

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 13:53:18

They are probably looking for the people who beg the least, 5madthings grin

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 13:56:49

well i havent begged...much... and certainly not as much as some others (smug face) grin

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 14:00:42

grin

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 14:06:13

i have to go on the school run in 40 mins i NEED to KNOW! and it the bloody sky is getting greyer and it looks like it is going to piss down, but at least if i know i have got one i can be HAPPY in the rain! grin

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Sep-12 14:06:30

No emails been sent yet - sorry - am chasing client....
BTW the 'choosing' bit is genuinely a combo of randomness, getting a good balance of folks in terms of responses to Qs and what you put in the end box. No right or wrong answers particularly. It's not about being 1st on list, posting on this thread or attempts at bribery smile

Also - we do have some more product tests being planned at the mo so do watch this place if you don't get picked this time (not all have such a big rrp as this but still should be interesting!)

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Sep-12 14:07:03

5madthings so do I!

Blatherskite Mon 10-Sep-12 14:11:35

Ann, can you give them a stern Mum face and tell them it's not nice to tease please.

grin

Will keep watching Ann if am unsuccessful, I've applied for loads now, I'm sure one day I might get lucky! Haha. grin

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 14:33:39

I don't really care about the RRP, ds would just like to try some food which isn't overcooked. blush grin You can have it back after a couple of months if you want it.

snowballinashoebox Mon 10-Sep-12 15:27:24

yeuch I have never checked in my spam folder so many times, goes off to wash mind.

QueenofJacksDreams Mon 10-Sep-12 15:35:38

You know we're not going to end up finding out today right? wink Sods law and all that.

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 15:50:21

Bad organisation by Philips.

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 15:51:39

As I always tell DS 'who told you life was supposed to be fair?!!'

BonnyDay Mon 10-Sep-12 15:55:54

Grr.
Now even I have looked.

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 15:57:36

no news yet? am at school so cany log in to emails. shall drag thethings away from the playground and get them home. hopefully before it rains!

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 16:04:31

Am picturing scene where Ann is bombarded with pms by desperate MNetters grin

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 16:15:41

I am picturing the next staff meeting...
'Who wants to do the admin for the next product test?'

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 16:28:49

Ann saying 'it was horrific - they just kept on coming at me waving recipes".

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 16:36:37

'They were like sharks, I tell you, sharks coming in for the kill... They just wouldn't give up!'

I think she's on stress leave now isn't she?

ColouringIn Mon 10-Sep-12 16:40:15

grin Loving this thread..

I shall rely on those who get lucky (am assuming it won't be me) to report back honestly to see if this is worth shelling out for.

MNhoneydragonHQ Mon 10-Sep-12 16:44:48

Frontpaw - should Phillips have planned to be inundated by needy Mnetters? grin

ScorpionQueen Mon 10-Sep-12 16:51:27

Phillips will have sold at least one as a result of this thread even before the testers are chosen.
smile

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 16:53:44

Absolutely. Its like the Hoover fiasco all over again. When will thise silly sods in the marketeying departments learn?

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Sep-12 16:56:53

Emails have gone (hides)

ScorpionQueen Mon 10-Sep-12 16:57:10

I must have missed the Hoover fiasco. This is fun though.

Well done to the lucky few!

Can't wait to read your feedback on it and see if it's as good as it looks smile

TheCunningStunt Mon 10-Sep-12 17:09:17

Oh well! Well done to those who are getting to try itgrin

Frontpaw Mon 10-Sep-12 17:09:50

BiscuitNibbler Mon 10-Sep-12 17:10:15

Nothing here either. sad

ColouringIn Mon 10-Sep-12 17:10:46

Yep....I will be interested to see how it works in practice......the time saving element looked good, but as its just me and DS I am not a good demographic for testing....lam assuming they will want and need busy and larger families.

I am seriously thinking about getting on but seeing feedback would be good before taking the plunge.

Fiveisenough Mon 10-Sep-12 17:11:24

Ooh! Just got an email. Am so excited I never get picked for anything! Thank you!!!

BellaOfTheBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 17:11:56

I didn't want one anyway...

Oh sad well done people.

MisForMumNotMaid Mon 10-Sep-12 17:13:34

No emails here. Glad the wait is over, I was starting to become obsessive with checking my email.

Congratulations to those that have them, looking forwards to some mumsnet honest, no doubt mixed, feedback.

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 17:13:59

well we have a big family and no email here sad i am guessing they wanted a variety, some big and some small, maybe some working parents etc.

would be interesting to know what criteria they used to choose.

tries not to sulk...

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 17:15:08

Oh well. sad

Cries a little sad

I really wanted to try one, can't see any circumstances that I would spend that much on a kitchen gadget but I'll be interested in the feedback.

So, testers, please be really honest. Is it worth the money, can any gadget be that good? Does it transform your cooking? Or is it more like the difference between having a food processor and chopping/mixing by hand?

IsSamNormansDad Mon 10-Sep-12 17:21:43

Cries a bit sadsadsad

I should have said I can't cook. I said I could! grin I'm really interested to see if they work though as I am dubious as to if iits really practical. And at £350 is it worth it? I have a food processor that can grate etc and a slow cooker...so will be reading the feedback.

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 17:31:45

I said I couldn't cook, Cunning. I also said I had a tendency to burn things as I forget about them and they boil dry. It made no difference. sad

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 17:33:12

5madthings, the quota for people with 5/five in their names was clearly taken up by five is enough <glares>

grin

Blatherskite Mon 10-Sep-12 17:34:09

They've finally picked!?!

I daren't look!

Blatherskite Mon 10-Sep-12 17:35:20

I checked sad

Damn. Not the right demographic.

Again.

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 17:39:43

They'd have picked professional competition people who have just joined to get a freebie! They know how to fill the forms in so they can tell the companies what they want to hear. I bet there will be loads of 'mumsnetters' we've never heard of and have never posted. sad I'm not bitter, honest

SharpObject Mon 10-Sep-12 17:41:43

Oh wow. I'm a tester. Large family, working mum and can cook the basics.

I've always wanted to make risotto so that will be my first test I think.

Sorry to all those that didn't get the chance this time, I promise to leave honest feedback smile

Wolfcub Mon 10-Sep-12 17:43:09

sob sad well done to those that were picked envy

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 17:43:22

Wonder if next time I say my annual salary is a lot more than £15k I MIT get picked. After all, us poor cannot afford such luxuries. (feeling guilty yet AnnMN)

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 17:48:08

yes 5inthebed you are right, its that other 5 dam her!

and i wondered about the annual salary thingy as well, i am guessing they are looking for a certain type with above median income as the price of it means lots of people are simply priced out, its not a cheap piece of kit! hence wanting one free...

Yeah, after all people on carers allowance are hardly going to be able to afford them.

Shame really.

Tee2072 Mon 10-Sep-12 18:00:30

Ah well. Better luck next time to all of us who didn't get it!

Fiveisenough Mon 10-Sep-12 18:02:57

Don't think it's income related as I didn't put income down. More about being a working parent to 5 I suspect.

Sorry to the other 5's.

OhNoMyFoot Mon 10-Sep-12 18:04:41

There seems to be some mistake, I haven't received an email sad

Reggiee Mon 10-Sep-12 18:05:03

shock shock I've just got an email <shameless brag> grin.

Thank you sooooo much grin. I am v v v excited.

Anyone want to come round for tea?

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 18:06:57

sad

Good luck testing you lucky, lucky people smile

libelulle Mon 10-Sep-12 18:07:51

ooh, I've been picked. I can hardly believe it. I promise I'm not a professional competition winner - I have never never in my life won anything at all!!!

But you know, I just found out this weekend that my mum has almost certainly got terminal cancer. It's so so so nice to have something to smile about today.

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 18:09:25

ah can you choose not to disclose income?

and i have 5, obviously but am a sahm parent.

Gauchita Mon 10-Sep-12 18:09:49

no email here sad

5madthings Mon 10-Sep-12 18:10:18

libel you dont need to justify winning! sorry to hear about your mum sad i hope it helps make your life a bit easier having the cooker xxx

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 18:14:51

Libelulle I hope you enjoy testing and very sad about your mum.

To everyone thinking they were too poor to be picked we have a highish income bracket and weren't picked - so it won't just be that.

Pinot Mon 10-Sep-12 18:16:17

nope, not me again.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Sep-12 18:27:27

Am so sorry we couldn't include all of you.... Those who were picked were just lucky really - as explained above it's such a random mix of folks from across all those who applied.

Babieseverywhere Mon 10-Sep-12 18:28:34

I have been picked and I am so excited, can't wait to have a go. smile

I am hoping to prep food early in the day when baby and toddler let me and use the timer so food is ready for teatime smile

Extra grin as I am chuffed. Think this gadget is worth more than my stamp sized kitchen is...including appliances smile

Babieseverywhere Mon 10-Sep-12 18:29:03

Hopeing not hoping, silly me smile

BIWI Mon 10-Sep-12 18:35:36

sad

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 18:38:05

Sorry about your mum libel thanks

SharpObject Mon 10-Sep-12 18:50:12

So sorry to hear about your mum libel

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 10-Sep-12 19:01:17

I'm another that always wonders what the criteria are for being picked for these things, as I never am. And who also fears that faux-MN-ers are getting all the good things. More so with the straight comps, actually!! <cynical emoticon>

But WOWERS, I got picked! I've only just seen the email; I've not told anyone in RL yet but wanted to come here to say OMG and thanks! I am quite ridiculously excited as I am another that normally never 'wins' anything! I promise that I will give detailed feedback, in case it will help any of those who did not luck out this time. GOd, that sounds prattish, doesn't it? Prattish and boastful? I do mean it nicely though!

IwishIwasmoreorganised Mon 10-Sep-12 19:11:04

Just rushed off to check my e-mails, and I had one from MN, but it was for the bloody book club.

No trial for me, oh well. Well done to those who are lucky enough to give this one a go, I'm looking forward to hearing all about it. Unless we win the lottery I can't imagine ever spending that much on a kitchen gadget I think pampered chef is too expensive!

blisterpack Mon 10-Sep-12 19:19:38

Oh well, you win some you lose all some. Congrats to the lucky winners.

Any chance MN can haggle us non-winners a good deal to buy this after we've seen the feedback?

lubeybooby Mon 10-Sep-12 19:20:48

No email for me! Well done everyone else though and also looking forward to the feedback

ceeveebee Mon 10-Sep-12 19:21:10

Yes- what will happen to the demo models, they won't bramble to sell them. Will the lucky testers get to keep them or can I buy one half price?

ceeveebee Mon 10-Sep-12 19:21:26

Bramble = be able

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 10-Sep-12 19:21:36

blisterpack - good idea - will ask

and also libelulle v sorry to hear about your mum.

LadySybildeChocolate Mon 10-Sep-12 20:01:22

So sorry to hear about your mum, libelulle sad

libelulle Mon 10-Sep-12 20:04:38

Thanks all. Life is pretty shit sometimes, and the next few months are going to be unimaginably tough I think. But it's nice to still have stuff to feel a bit excited about, even if it just shiny kitchen gadgets. My mum was pretty chuffed too when I told her grin

libelulle Mon 10-Sep-12 20:53:34

gah, sorry, didn't mean to kill the thread!!!

SharpObject Mon 10-Sep-12 20:58:50

Posting so libel isn't the thread killer.

I'm assuming we keep them after the trial I'm scared I'll break it and have to pay for it?

IwishIwasmoreorganised Mon 10-Sep-12 21:09:01

We didn't get to keep the Kuga, but I'm sure that you do get to keep this!

Hope all the lucky ones enjoy it.

Asmywhimsytakesme Mon 10-Sep-12 21:16:17

You do get to keep them I think you lucky lucky people smile

Jux Mon 10-Sep-12 22:25:43

Ooooh you Lucky Lot! Well done, and enjoy.

(Can't complain, I got one of the Wiis.)

nikcname Mon 10-Sep-12 22:34:42

Didn't know there was a shortlist before it was sent! Would have sent a different app if so. Was the first and last time tbh as didn't realise there were two vetting processes. Also do these things always have to be at the top of active convos? Is it just for advertising/making money? I know its mumsnet but really so much of it is babiesnet!

SharpObject Mon 10-Sep-12 22:39:10

nick you cane move the stickies from your active list in customise if you don't want them there.

I'm not quite sure what's so babiesnet about a kitchen appliance though.....confused

5inthebed Mon 10-Sep-12 22:39:39

I got a wii as well, kids still play on it, was a godsend over summer holiday!

Jux Mon 10-Sep-12 22:47:05

So was ours!

BIWI Tue 11-Sep-12 08:38:00

babiesnet? hmm

Hardly. And this post has been stickied on Active Convos for quite some time.

ceeveebee Tue 11-Sep-12 08:57:56

Babiesnet?

I think most intelligent people realise that mumsnet is not in fact a charity and needs advertising income to survive. I think it's you that needs to grow up nickname

peggyblackett Tue 11-Sep-12 08:58:45

Ooh well done to everyone who got one. Please comeback and give us the honest lowdown. If its good and MN can secure us a hefty whack off I might buy one.

Frontpaw Tue 11-Sep-12 09:01:48

Maybe 'babiesnet' was because we are all grizzling that we didn't get one!

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 11-Sep-12 10:16:56

Philips have said there is a FB comp this month - could be worth a punt if you were unlucky on here www.facebook.com/philipshomeliving Good Luck!

LadySybildeChocolate Tue 11-Sep-12 10:28:41

There's going to be thousands of people entering that. sad

Asmywhimsytakesme Tue 11-Sep-12 10:32:54

I am looking forward to reading all the cries of glee as the winners actually get and unpack the shiny machines smile

I love the MN comps - get to walk around very excited daydreaming about winning! I got a free copy of the MN rules, but do far no more winning - must try harder grin

Fillybuster Tue 11-Sep-12 12:17:32

sad

But looking forward to reading the feedback from everyone who did....if this thing really does everything it claims to do then it will be on my 'bonus' wishlist (if I get one next year)

Just one thing though....I don't think product tests are the same as comps on MN - I've never won a competition in my life, anywhere, but I have been fortunate enough to be picked for a few product trials ( thanks MNHQ ). Yes, its absolutely brilliant to get to trial stuff, but you do have to commit proper time to both doing the trial itself and providing full feedback during and afterwards....its not quite the same as just getting a freebie in the post....is it?

Anyway, really well done to those who did get selected for this one - enjoy gringringrin

5inthebed Tue 11-Sep-12 13:42:00

I prefer the product trials to the MN competitions tbh. Its nice to read about the things that are tried out, nice taking part in them as well and love leaving feedback.

Asmywhimsytakesme Tue 11-Sep-12 14:56:00

Well yes - comps, product trials - anything where I have a chance of a freebie blush

doblet Wed 12-Sep-12 18:32:16

My email doesn't seem to have arrived sad

Frontpaw Wed 12-Sep-12 18:55:06

I don't 'do' facebook (too busy choppin' veg and stirring risotto_

urbanturban Wed 12-Sep-12 19:09:55

Squeeeeeeaaaal - just checked my spam email folder and we have been picked..........this will come in handy.....am going in for an ELCS on 24 September with DC3, and life will be hectic for a few weeks (DDs are 4 and 2)

So I will be happily setting the HomeCooker to chop and cook while I BF my new baby..........thanks MumsnetHQ, this is fantastic news for us!

SharpObject Wed 12-Sep-12 21:06:11

I've had a second email from Ann telling me to expect alone call about delivery and delivering fresh ingredients.

Nervous now, I wonder what We will be expected to cook? confused < worried face.

HazeltheMcWitch Wed 12-Sep-12 22:51:08

Just seen that email also - wonder what on earth it could be?!
The good thing is that the pics we submit can be done so anonymously (I believe), so no one will be able to id what dreadful cooks we might be...

I am so excited!

libelulle Fri 14-Sep-12 10:30:04

<Tapping my feet and checking my mobile excessively often to check for any missed calls> My DH says I am getting a bit obsessive. Who me?

HazeltheMcWitch Fri 14-Sep-12 12:24:00

Oh thank God, Lib - thought it was just me...!

SharpObject Fri 14-Sep-12 16:39:51

Me to, I even left my work number on my home answering machine!

Babieseverywhere Fri 14-Sep-12 18:13:27

I put off my food shop, waiting to see what we are being sent...I hate waste.

That said I'll have to do a minimum frozen/tin/dried shop in the meantime to keep us going...guess we won't hear until Monday at the earliest now ?!

SharpObject Sat 15-Sep-12 17:51:30

I was really hoping it would be here for the weekend when I have time on my hands.

That said I will be rushing about after work and school clubs this week so probably a better way to test it out although I won't be here during the day for it to be delivered.....

ClaireDeTamble Sun 16-Sep-12 13:24:07

Has anyone had the call yet?

I'm getting paranoid that I put the wrong number down confused

HazeltheMcWitch Sun 16-Sep-12 17:45:42

No call! Nothing since Weds, the email saying "..you should shortly be receiving a call from the team..."

Shortly?! It'll be 5 whole days tomorrow!

<Not ungrateful, but really very excited emoticon>

libelulle Mon 17-Sep-12 12:07:42

oooh just got a call, it's arriving tomorrow! along with a voucher for fresh ingredients!!!! Just doing a little dance round the kitchen.

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 17-Sep-12 12:37:00

Snap, just had my call too!
We have to make risotto, hence ingreds.
Am ridiculously excited!

Fiveisenough Mon 17-Sep-12 12:43:23

Just missed the call! Tried calling back but she must be busy phoning everyone else!
