NOW CLOSED: Want to try the new HomeCooker (worth £350) from Philips to the test? Cooks needed....

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 03-Sep-12 15:06:24

We've been asked by Philips to find 15 MNers UK based who are willing to put their new HomeCooker (and cutting tower) to the MN test! This is a brand new product and MNers will be among the first to try it.

The HomeCooker is the first in the new range of kitchen appliances that has been co-created by Philips and Jamie Oliver and is a first-of-its-kind, multi-functional device that does the preparation as well as the cooking, meaning you can cook fresh and stay fresh.

For more information please see

Philips say "Enabling you to prepare homemade meals even on your busiest days, the HomeCooker has been specially designed to achieve authentic home cooking with ease. It can chop, stir, steam and sauté and be left cooking unattended".

As Jamie Oliver explains: "We all know it can be a struggle to get fresh, homemade food on the table every day, especially for busy parents who have to juggle so much. It's often a real tradeoff between spending time with the family and getting fresh food on the table. The beauty of the Philips HomeCooker is that it removes this dilemma - you can now do both! Whether you're a beginner cook or a more experienced chef, the HomeCooker takes the pressure off in the kitchen. Because it stirs itself you don't have to stand over a stove but you can still invest all that love and creativity into your meal."

For this we're looking for a range of people - it's aimed at those who like to and want to cook fresh meals but often struggle to find the time.

If you're selected for this product test you will be sent the HomeCooker (and cutting tower) and ingredients to follow one of the recipes provided. You may also want you to try some of your favourites in it.

We'll need you to add three lots of feedback:

1) First impressions on a thread on site
2) Your opinion after you've been using it for a couple of weeks on a thread (we will add more questions to the thread)
3) A review on the MN Reviews section

So long as you do all three you will be able to keep the HomeCooker after testing (RRP £350).

We'd also like testers to send in about 5 photos of the food you create using the HomeCooker - these can be anonymous and will be used on the Philips Facebook pages

If you'd like to put it through the paces please sign up here - if you are selected we will be in touch.

Thanks and good luck

I don't think I'd be the target audience for this!! I'm VERY skeptical of the Kenwood mixer that can cook too in the bowl - don't see how that works and would doubt you'd get anyting decent out of it.

TaperJeanGirl Mon 03-Sep-12 20:51:08

ceeveebee Mon 03-Sep-12 20:53:13

Done - would make a nice change from the slowcooked slop I normally endup with - not much time for cooking with 10mo twins though!

Frontpaw Tue 04-Sep-12 09:37:36

uberalice Tue 04-Sep-12 09:57:17

Any idea when participants will find out they've been selected?

wibblywobbler Tue 04-Sep-12 10:38:10

Done, one very pushed for time single mum of toddler thinks she's found the answers to her prayers at dinner time!

CatPower Tue 04-Sep-12 10:51:29

My dysplastic hips would love this gadget forever - no more aching, grinding and clicking when standing in the kitchen chopping and stirring! Ah, a girl can dream...

Frontpaw Tue 04-Sep-12 10:51:37

I do think the price is steep though. Pre-child I would have seriously considered it but not these days! I don't think it will sell huge amounts - far cheaper to get a mini-mixer, pressure cooker and microwave.

I do love a gadget though! I have a few fab ones but some that never see the light of day (usually because they are too big to leave out and end up at the back of the cupboard).

BornToFolk Tue 04-Sep-12 10:54:22

Oooh, I want one! I found a packet of risotto rice lurking in the cupboard the other day but couldn't face all that stirring. This looks perfect for that kind of thing.

Frontpaw Tue 04-Sep-12 10:58:16

Ot can do risotto too!! That's it, I neeeeed one! Pleeeeese pick me! I work for a charity these days and can't afford to maintain my gadget habit!

Babieseverywhere Tue 04-Sep-12 11:15:51

Done. What a clever machine smile

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Tue 04-Sep-12 11:16:43

Annmumsnet - My form behaved oddly too - can I check it was submitted?

Would this be any use to a person with crap disability that means they can't lift pots or chop stuff?

mistlethrush Tue 04-Sep-12 11:22:20

We currently do risotto in the oven (saves standing over it and stirring) so it would be interesting to see how it compared to that (also do ratatouille in the oven, and stews in the oven, and ... just so that they don't burn on the hob!)

MrsBitchArseUsedToBeBran Tue 04-Sep-12 11:43:10

I've been tempted by a Thermomix for ages not, but the price is very steep. I wonder if this might be a compromise, less functional but also much, much cheaper.

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 04-Sep-12 11:54:16

Northernlurkerisbackatwork - yes fine
RabbitsMakeBrownEggs - do have a look at the links above as I think only you can answer that one.
Hope to let testers know asap - we have had an amazing response to this one!

Done, it looks fantastic!. smile

MorningCoffee Tue 04-Sep-12 12:11:21

Done looks fab smile

Thank you Ann. I have stuck an application through, it does look like it could do a big part of what I currently struggle to do myself, so I would be quite happy to try it out. If it's good, it would be great to be able to recommend it to other people with similar difficulties. I am currently trying to put together an advice booklet for Homestart regarding coping with disability and young children, so am always open to things I might be able to include on it. grin

Tortoise Tue 04-Sep-12 12:16:25

Ann I asked further down if my application went through. Can you let me know please. Ta

Spirael Wed 05-Sep-12 09:56:49

Just been obsessively reading the website again. Can I add that this product sounds like it would be perfect for cheese making!! Able to set a specific temperature and time, continuous stirring to prevent burning...

As an amateur cheese maker, I would be more than happy to demonstrate through photographs or even a video, if I were to be chosen... wink thanks wine

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 09:58:03

Cheese.... Mmmmmmm. Is there nothing this machine can't do?

Asmywhimsytakesme Wed 05-Sep-12 13:09:53

Please pick us gringrin

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 13:42:19

I doubt begging at this point is going to change the outcome but I'm feeling the peer pressure wink

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:45:05

I think if you beg you should be automatically disqualified.

Therefore, I am not begging.

I may be pleading, though.

Do we get an email when if we're picked?

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:50:54

Usually, OOMTCO.

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 13:51:02

<sits on Tee>

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 05-Sep-12 13:53:06

Do you get extra points if you beg or something? confused

I hope I get picked. I love gadgets!

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 13:55:16

Pinot, why are you always sitting on me?!?! Don't you know I have a bad leg?!?!

Where you been, girl? I haven't seen you in ages.

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 13:57:06

<<soothes poorly leg>>

I've been on my holidays, lovely smile Feels like a lifetime ago now and I've been avoiding the mad trolls round here smile How are you, tootyfrooty? <mwah>

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:04:47

Somewhere nice? Why didn't you take me? smile

I'm okay. Hoping the impending rain holds off until A Small Boy™ wakes up from his nap so we can run to the bank and the market.

What's all this kissing? I'm feeling left out envy

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:02

Better now?

Pinot Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:27

hussy! wink

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 14:07:33

Here's a wet sloppy one mwwwwweaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 14:08:43

Busted! grin

TheCunningStunt Wed 05-Sep-12 14:29:08

Are mnhq picking or are Phillips? so I know who to send this basket of muffins and wine too just curious

Ahhh... yes, better grin

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:29:31

Ahem MNHQ, some of us are actually patiently waiting for the results from the MN Jury and paying attention. You might notice that some of the applicants have been distracted and are now snogging in a corner. Therefore, if I were you I'd be seriously doubting their dedication to the cause. I think you can rule them out.

Thank you smile

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:31:13

I'm actually getting a bit hungry now. So is DS

BlackberryIce Wed 05-Sep-12 17:33:02

Are we supposed to hear today?

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:34:39

I already have. Yippee!

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:34:54

I hope we find out soon. I've got to get the dinner on and I'll hold off on it if there's a shiny new gadget coming my way. Don't want to dirty the chip pan for nothing...

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 17:35:07

Fibber grin

Aw have you? That means I won't be a chosen one sad

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 17:37:19

If it's been popular, Ann will no doubt be wading through tonnes of applications tearing her hair out and shaking from all the coffee.

TheCunningStunt Wed 05-Sep-12 17:40:16

It usually takes a while before they send out emails...or in my case...don't send me an email wink

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 17:40:36

Well I think you're the only one!

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 17:52:54

Yes. Jamie is bringing it around himself. He just called me 'Sister', he says 'I'm bringin' it raaaaand ta ya m'sel, coz you're so cool. Just don't tell Joolz'.

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 17:53:35

PseudoBadger Wed 05-Sep-12 18:01:05

Oh thank god you're lying grin

BlackberryIce Wed 05-Sep-12 18:14:29

Well that made me check my email anyway!

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:14:31

I've had another read of that info and now I'm wondering whether it really as adaptable....

<<immune to expensive and shiny>>

Blatherskite Wed 05-Sep-12 18:26:25

I'm resisting looking too much at the website as I'll only be more disappointed if when I don't get picked if I've spent ages drooling over it.

Looks like it might save me buying the Food Processor and the Slow cooker I've been saving up for though which would be amazing and would save a lot of cupboard space too.

Jux Wed 05-Sep-12 18:27:38

Well, I've had another look at it, and I've decided that I'll still let them give one to me.

<not immune to expensive and shiny>

5inthebed Wed 05-Sep-12 18:29:17

This is like the fridge tester thread all over again

F5 F5 F5!

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 05-Sep-12 18:31:18

Looking at some of these posts, I'm not sure that my begging application was good enough. sad

SheelaNeGig Wed 05-Sep-12 18:31:34

poorbuthappy Wed 05-Sep-12 18:32:41

Surely it's too late to hear today??!confused

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 18:33:33

Nah. They keep them chained to the radiators at Mumsnet Towers, so I hear.

I rubbed my USP all up in their faces, and followed it up with selling my soul to Jamie Oliver. Might as well tell 'em why you think you'll be a good tester and really put the product through it's paces. Me and my PA are waiting with baited breath to see if we get a shiny new toy to play with.

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 18:36:53

PA!? You'll be disqualified then. No helpers...

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:38:01

Isnt down to Zphillips to choose based on what demographic they require?

Therefore making the begging, pleading and foot tapping somewhat unnecessary and somewhat demeaning? [grin{

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 18:39:04

It down to Phillips

Blardy phone!

I can see there being some epic tantrums on here in the near future! grin

but not from me cos I'm getting picked

I want one sad

Fillybuster Wed 05-Sep-12 19:56:02

I'm so not going to make the grade, even though I really really want one....should have spent some time copying reading everyone elses' 'pick mes' before I filled the form, not after sad

Flisspaps Wed 05-Sep-12 20:02:38

I've got everything so crossed that I'm going to fall over...I didn't beg very much (I didn't know we were supposed to) but I did manage to almost burn the leeks for a pie yesterday trying to deal with DD and DS at once yesterday and it's only going to get worse once I'm working!

I need my PA. sad Does that really disqualify me? Although if the product is as good as it claims, I may manage without her a bit more often. She already lost four hours a week to a mobility scooter, she'll be peeved if she loses another seven to a wonder cooker. grin

Frontpaw Wed 05-Sep-12 20:25:04

Ah I thought you were a high falootin' business woman with a PA filling out your forms as you steered the country out of the recession. Of course, maybe you are...

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 20:36:33

I sued to be a PA...does that disqualify me?

I'll never get to do it as they never like to ship to NI. It's like we're in a different country or something...

Tee2072 Wed 05-Sep-12 20:37:10

Used to be...I have never sued someone who was a PA or ever sued anyone, actually.

GWenlockMaryLacey Wed 05-Sep-12 20:40:11

Right good, that's Tee off the list. Anyone else want to declare themselves out? grin

Asmywhimsytakesme Wed 05-Sep-12 20:55:26

Aaaagghh the waiting is killing me!

SirBoobAlot Wed 05-Sep-12 21:24:15

<big fluttering eyelashes>

MNhoneydragonHQ Wed 05-Sep-12 21:47:43

take those off, Boobs, you hussy!

BlackberryIce Thu 06-Sep-12 09:41:51

Is today the day??

SirBoobAlot Thu 06-Sep-12 09:43:33

Sod off, honey, they're real!

wink <with gems on>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 09:52:37

<tries to sit and wait nicely without wiggling>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 09:55:49

I see you shiver with antici…

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 10:05:56

I'm now singing The Timewalk. At my desk. In the office.....

Damn you Blathers grin

BellaOfTheBalls Thu 06-Sep-12 10:09:33

<Pretends not to refresh email every 30 seconds>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 10:12:43

At least I'm keeping you amused while you wait Filly wink

Ahem, MNHQ, I think you must have misspelled my email address wink

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 10:22:16

I'm not looking anymore....I do have a life you know!

SandWitch Thu 06-Sep-12 10:27:43

Right, can I ask all the questions now that will make me look like a bad looser if I am not picked?

Who chooses - MNHQ or Phillips?
Do MNHQ send Phillips a random selection of responses and then they choose?
Did we have to impress MNHQ and Phillips?
<<head explodes...>>

Can I ask for a PM from anyone who does get picked with hints on how to have a better chance next time?
<<looser emoticon>>

dh thinks I spend far too much time on here - but if I win I get to spend as much time as I like and he will eat better - it is win-win grin

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 11:16:21

Do you mean the Time Warp? confused

GWenlockMaryLacey Thu 06-Sep-12 11:19:19

Oh no. I just realised I deleted my spam emails last night without thinking and it would have been in there by accident. Would you mind sending it again? Thanks.

<clever> grin

OMG! I've just checked my spam folder.....!

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:28:45

and it was empty?

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 06-Sep-12 11:29:38

Chanting MNHQ - make the choice!!!! grin

Damn right Blather sad

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 11:35:47

Warp. Not Walk.

Must learn to read what I type before hitting 'post'.

<hangs head in shame>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 11:36:44

<pulls knees in tight>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:37:23

I understood what you meant Filly smile

C'mon MNHQ. Every time I get an email I get butterflies and it turns out to be nothing but junk mail sad

have they chosen yet?? Am a bit slow..

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 11:52:24

No they haven't!

I'm going out for my own sanity...

Pinot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:00:52

I missed out on the Hoover, the Serum, the Hair Products so have everything crossed for this smile smile

The last thing I got was, I believe, the anti wrinkle cream grin

libelulle Thu 06-Sep-12 12:06:00

I've never won anything, ever <waaaiiil>

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 12:06:57

Pinot, I'll trade you the limited remains of my serum for this cooker - deal? grin

Pinot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:07:31

haha Filly no chance grin

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 12:15:37

Have they picked yet? Like so many others, I never get picked/win anything sadsadsad
laying it on thick

BIWI Thu 06-Sep-12 12:17:46

I have gin

<knows how to get MNHQ interested>

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:21:37

I'm going to hold my breath until I am picked angry

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 12:22:55

Bloody hell is it still down loading?

libelulle Thu 06-Sep-12 12:24:30

good plan ohnomyfoot. Hfffpmfp <sound of breath holding>

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 13:29:30

Nothing yet?

I think they are just messing with us now...

MisForMumNotMaid Thu 06-Sep-12 13:30:08

Can this please be like that episode of Opera when she told everyone that two lucky people had one a car and to check under their seats for an envelope, but she'd put them under every seat?

Could you sell the idea to Phillips, think of the potential free publicity and positive feeling that would be generated.

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 13:37:51

Ooh Mis <keeps everything crossed> hope so!

OhNoMyFoot Thu 06-Sep-12 14:03:39

<not sure how much longer I can last>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:04:59

Back from gazing longingly at the kitchen gadgets in John Lewis shopping and still nothing!?!

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 14:14:15

Mis that's a great idea. A veritable army of mum's telling the world how bloody fantastic the thing is.

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 14:19:22

See today I could use it. We have many clubs to attend right after school which results in rubbish meals getting cooked as its tea then bed as time goes by so fast! But I could use this machine to cook whilst I sort the kids out! I so could have tested it todaygrin

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 14:22:46

oh damn that stray apostrophe.

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:25:57

Mondays are the day I need it most. DD swims in the morning and then DS goes straight from school in the afternoon and we get back too late to start cooking anything more involved than plain pasta or a frozen pizza. If I could bung stuff in the Homecooker between the lessons, we could have a proper meal ready and warm for when we get back.

FalseStartered Thu 06-Sep-12 14:31:40

i've changed my mind

i think Jamie Oliver eats ready meals and Philips all smell

<reverse psychology>

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 14:35:46

I think what they are afraid of is a bevy of mums telling the world it's crap.

It's not like we're not honest reviewers around here.....

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 06-Sep-12 14:53:06

Ladies and news yet - sorry! I've sent off a shortlist to Philips and they will make the final just awaiting the final folks to come back to me. You're making me nervous with all this chat!

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 14:54:16

You're making us nervous with the waiting, Ann!!! grin

How short is the short list? What criteria was used to make it?

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 14:58:32

You could put some of us out of our misery Ann....?

PseudoBadger Thu 06-Sep-12 15:06:26

Yes. We need to know if we're not on the short list. Tell us <threatening>

if I'm on the list then I'm really really sorry for being so rude

short list? blimey this is scarier than waiting for a school place!

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 15:19:46

Ooh thought I'd been picked when I saw a Mumsnet email, but no, it's the parenting news email angry
Come on MNHQ, give us some clues to the short list. thanks wine [gin]

Gauchita Thu 06-Sep-12 15:23:23

::crosses fingers:: ::sends gin thanks to Ann::

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:26:48

Oh for goodness sake. Just do it alpohanetically by surname - Frontpaw Aaaaardvark's the name.

Fillybuster Thu 06-Sep-12 15:34:59

Shortlist??? You're toying with us now....!!! grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:38:45

I've just had an email from MNHQ...about parenting news. I looked at who it was from, and was sooo excited. Then I looked at the title. That's mean! sad

TheCunningStunt Thu 06-Sep-12 15:39:02

Short list !? Balls. I never make lists. Apart from ones of things I need to remember. blush well goodluck everyone

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:39:47

I didn't get on the other list either. Here I sit, cold headed and hungry... Waaaahhhhh

Will someone keep me off this thread please.

BTW I heart Philips grin

Frontpaw Thu 06-Sep-12 15:42:07

I could use it today... Late from work, running to get DS, dragging him off to class so we won't be home until late. DH working late...

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Thu 06-Sep-12 15:45:48

So have those on the short list been emailed then? sad

5inthebed Thu 06-Sep-12 15:53:31

Can we know the short list please? Or at least the specifics that Philips were looking for?

I've always liked the name Philip. Should I ever have another son he shall be called Philip grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:55:00

I have a pet rock called Philip (or rather I will when I go and get him from the garden) grin

Wolfcub Thu 06-Sep-12 15:55:09

Please put us out of our misery. I don't think I've ever checked MN so much in 48 hours in my life.

I had a pet frog called Philip. But I think I ran his leg over with the wheelie bin yesterday sad

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 15:57:13

My DS is called Philip and DD is Philippa not -really--
<grovels at person in charges feet>

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 15:57:54

I'm willing to get my name changed to Philipa grin

I will change my children's names to Phillip and Phillipa? And get Philips tattooed on my forehead as a permanent sort of advertisement? grin

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:07:58

I haven't checked my email so much since the fridge freezer offer. I'm still bitter about that.

I think if I don't get this I may just pretend I have and write terrible reviews everywhere.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:10:31

I really need a new hoover, Biscuit. sad

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 06-Sep-12 16:10:41

I am saying nuffink more about shortlist. It's all out of my hands now...will be no news til tomorrow now I am sure (does that help!?)

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:13:04

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:13:14

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:14:28

AnnMumsnet - I make super luffly cakes....grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:15:18

You won't need something to help you cook then, will you NormansDad? grin

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:16:46

I doooooooo! I can't make proper food! Only cakes <narrows eyes>
Or can we live on cake?

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:17:09

Oh yes, the hoover too. sad

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:18:02

Of course you can live off cake!

I can't cook. I grate my fingers and forget I'm cooking so things burn. You should feel sorry for ds. sad

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:19:44

My DD will have to live on Turkey Twizzlers if I don't win this.

Will nobody think about the children???

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:20:07

I've had 3rd degree burns because I didnt realise the oven tray would be hot! blush
House reeked of burnt flesh for months <exaggeration? Moi?>

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 16:25:23

You can cook turkey twizzlers without burning them? shock I just send ds to the chippy.

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:27:10

Of course I burn them, it adds to the flavour.

BiscuitNibbler Thu 06-Sep-12 16:29:23

Also, the smoke alarm is a handy reminder that they are ready to eat.

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 16:31:31

Surely they're going to want to have it tested by people who can cook too?

They wouldn't have got Jamie to make recipes for it otherwise. They want pictures of lovely, delicious looking, home made food coming out of these things not you lot lobbing chicken dippers in them and looking all confused when the recipe calls for capers or something.

Tee2072 Thu 06-Sep-12 16:35:50

See, in the US? Twizzlers are red licorice candy.

As I have never seen a Turkey Twizzler in real life, I'm imagining all sorts of odd meat and sweet combinations...

I hope they want people who can cook or I really am out before I even start!

IsSamNormansDad Thu 06-Sep-12 16:40:42

I knows what capers are! <offended> it's what the DC do when they're supposed to be going to bed! grin
Just kidding, I love the idea of cooking fabby meals etc, but shortage of time and skills bugger it up.
<eyes up pile of cookbooks and foodie mags in corner>

Asmywhimsytakesme Thu 06-Sep-12 16:53:42

Ann I hope you are braced for over a hundred weeping and wailing MNetters when the short list is revealed grin

Can someone tell me where you can buy turkey twizzlers? blush I remember having them in school and want to see if they taste like I remember. grin

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:05:51

Try Iceland, SchrodingersMew. I refuse to cook those, there's so little turkey in them they must breach the trades descriptions act! grin

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Thu 06-Sep-12 17:08:32

Capers go in the mayo when you are having fish fingers instead of chicken nuggets, innit. grin

I don't think Turkey Twizzlers have ever even been within 30miles of a real turkey!

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:18:48

Hot dogs in a can don't actually contain dogs, you know. Nor do they contain a lot of meat. Canned meat balls are just as bad.

I'll have a look in Iceland, thanks LadySybil grin.

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 17:27:00

Failing that, there's also FarmFoods possibly?? confused

None in Farmfoods. sad I've checked...

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Thu 06-Sep-12 17:52:20

They do have in Icelands Findus Crispy Pancakes, which are nothing like actually pancakes, but might be a secret bad habit of mine. Plus you can buy Greggs stuff and cook it yourself, imagine that - homemade Greggs sausage roll! grin

Homemade Gregg's sausage rolls are so much better than shop made ones! And the apple pastry things are amazing, especially with carte d'or vanilla ice cream <drools>

Blatherskite Thu 06-Sep-12 21:51:45

I made toad in the hole last night - and then made extra Yorkshire puddings and had them with cream and golden syrup <drools>

They're amazing but very, very bad

LadySybildeChocolate Thu 06-Sep-12 23:04:47

You may as well give them a pot noodle for supper. You can't go wrong with noodles.

I need this!!! My children need this smile

No news?

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 09:00:29

Do you think if I marched into Recipease and told them I was there to pick up my HomeCooker that would work?

I made a chilli last night and had to keep sitting down. Would have been so much easier with the home cooker.

<hopeful emoticon>

Will you pick mine up while you're there, Paw?

Gauchita Fri 07-Sep-12 09:34:27

No news yet? Phone beeps with emails and I'm hoping one is from MNHQ about this grin

Chopstheduck Fri 07-Sep-12 09:35:27

Oh it's closed, the anticipation! I really want to do this one.

mistlethrush Fri 07-Sep-12 09:37:56

Gauchita - can I borrow yours for a play if you get it - and vice versa?

Gauchita Fri 07-Sep-12 10:06:38

Mistlethrush, of course! smile

Is it today we find out?

Ann said yesterday there would beno news til tomorrow.

Asmywhimsytakesme Fri 07-Sep-12 10:17:08

Marking place and ready for taking part in chorus of gnashing of teeth.

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 10:18:09

I nearly cried when I got to work and there was no email from MNHQ in my inbox. Then I checked the thread and realised that was only because they hadn't sent it to me yet......grin

I have 18 guests for lunch tomorrow....last night I made:

2 x lemon tarts
1 x enormous danish-style apple cake with plaited top (British Bake-Off style)
1 x lamb stew
1 x beef bourgignon
2 x minced beef strudels
1 x pickled brisket
2 x roast chickens

and I kept thinking how much easier life would have been with the Philips cooker, especially with all the chopping, slicing, stirring etc for the lamb stew....

PerspectiveUrgentlyRequired Fri 07-Sep-12 11:36:51

I just want to let MNHQ know that I'm at work today, and can't get access to my emails until I get home about 6pm. Please please don't put a time limit on a reply, if I am <bows head> bestowed the honour of getting this fabulous product thingy. <needy-and-desparate-pleading-face smiley required here>

Time limit for 6.15pm is fine, just not before. smile

<sitting with legs, arms, fingers and toes crossed. Keels over as whole body goes into cramp>

gazzalw Fri 07-Sep-12 11:47:02

Excuse the analogy but a watched pot never boils grin!

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 07-Sep-12 11:47:59

Further update - no news today I'm afraid - all been a bit hectic at Philips and so it will be Monday before we can confirm who has been picked <am dreading the sad faces for those who haven't>.
Have a great weekend folks and sorry for the delay.

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 11:48:56

S'OK Ann. Worry not, I shall sit on all those that moan. That'll learn them <readies bigus butticus>

LaVitaBellissima Fri 07-Sep-12 11:56:54

I can try and relax till Monday hmm

Ann, can you tell us how many people applied? I'd like to work out my odds grin

LaVitaBellissima Fri 07-Sep-12 11:58:11

That was meant to be an confused not a rude hmm aarrgghh I really want one <pouts and sticks out bottom lip>

Ann - how about releasing the short list, aand then we can all go and start saving up for one instead grin

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Fri 07-Sep-12 12:05:56

Well I know I won't be picked. Just heard I didn't get the promotion I ws interviewed for on Wednesday and am plainly unemployable numpty who can't cook either.

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:07:06

Oh Northern sad Sorry lovely

OhNoMyFoot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:09:54

Shall I just pick then?

Northernlurkerisbackatwork Fri 07-Sep-12 12:10:37

Thanks. I think I would like a pity party sad. I was a bit ambivalent about applying as it was only a temporary post but then my manager said I could have a secondment and I thought 'ooooooh'. There just aren't many opportunities in my sector at the moment and I can't even get an interview for posts a bit higher up. Really fed up.

This has nothing to do with Phillips though. Mssive thread hijack - sorry.

Tee2072 Fri 07-Sep-12 12:21:07

Wait wait wait, Pinot, whenever you sit on me it's meant to be a torture?!?

I thought it was because you luffs me!!!!

Pinot Fri 07-Sep-12 12:55:00

Well when I sit on you, I shall also stroke your hair. See? I'm all about the love <<soothes>>

Blatherskite Fri 07-Sep-12 13:01:37

Ann, if I didn't make the shortlist, could you PM me and let me know? It's going to be a long weekend.....

Maybe the kerfuffle at Philips is because they're trying to find extra machines so that everyone on the shortlist gets one as they've seen how popular it might be? <hopeful>

iklboo Fri 07-Sep-12 13:04:14

Look on the bright side - gives us something to look forward to on Monday grin.

ElectricSoftParade Fri 07-Sep-12 13:12:33

You would think Philips would consider more than 15 wouldn't you? I mean, the gadget already appears popular with all of us, just think of all the word of mouth advertising they would get. As well as the home demonstrations we would all be showing our friends? Sales would be through the roof!

Just a thought Philips grin.

notso Fri 07-Sep-12 13:15:07

I think those who get them should cook deliciousness for those who don't!

Jux Fri 07-Sep-12 13:20:06

I have a huuuuuuge number of friends who have the sort of incomes that would allow them to buy this if I were to test it ...... (hoping that if someone drops out of the short list I'll get put on. What do you mean, it's not like choosing a school?)

alemci Fri 07-Sep-12 13:26:02

it looked really good didn't it. yes we can all start saving up. i would love to know the odds too and how many people applied.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 13:40:28

Philips needs more than 15. Basic marketing really. Word of mouth from 15 happy campers, of 200 of us moaning about the company as a whole?

Wolfcub Fri 07-Sep-12 13:50:12

I can't wait until Monday <impatient>

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 13:54:44

Going from it's popularity on this thread, Philips won't need to do any marketing/testing because they know it's going to be a hit!

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 14:09:57

Unless there is some major electrical or blade fault... Definately need more guinea pigs!

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 14:25:48

<wiggles out from under Pinots enormous arse backside>

Frontpaw - I don't think you're supposed to put guinea pigs in it, even if the blades are faulty....confused....or did I miss that bit on the website? grin

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 14:33:31

Is that where I'm going wrong with my pastry? They are tricky to clean off the blades of my magimix.

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Fri 07-Sep-12 14:53:13

Please don't use guinea pigs in your cooking. NOOOOOOOOO! shock

RabbitsMakeGOLDEggs Fri 07-Sep-12 15:01:49

Just received mail from Mumsnet. Can you imagine how my heart leapt, and then dropped when I discovered it wasn't my message to let me know about being chosen to take part. blush

Rabbits - I did that too!

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 15:54:48

They are playing with us... Not nice.

Asmywhimsytakesme Fri 07-Sep-12 16:01:29

Cruel. Cruel sad grin

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 17:45:05

You lot are stark raving bonkers. Bonkers.

I suspect most of the interest has come because it is a expensive shiny gadget to test like the XBox.

Blatherskite Fri 07-Sep-12 17:53:08

I didn't get an Xbox either sad

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 17:56:55

See ^ bonkers wink. You are at the mercy of the mighty markety people who are not reading this thread.

That pleasure is down to poor Ann grin

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 18:23:01

Those bastard mighty markety people... Oh hang on, that's me! Sadly I never marketeyed anything remotely exciting.

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 18:27:14

No x box, no face cream, no hoover, no dyson, no Aveda shampoo... sad

peggyblackett Fri 07-Sep-12 18:39:48

I can't believe we have to wait the weekend sad <practises sad face as I never win anything on MN>.

Fillybuster Fri 07-Sep-12 18:53:48

<quickly hides xbox, serum and face cream under many pages of mighty-marketing-y-type cv>

Actually I want to try this gadget cos it looks bloody useful....I'm very not into gadgets unless they add something to my life smile

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 19:06:41

Well, <puts marketey researchey hat on> if they really want to do their research properly, and make it statistically significant, they need to ask at least 100 of us to test it.

LadySybildeChocolate Fri 07-Sep-12 19:08:53

Good point, BIWI. I detest adverts which claim that 98% of people loved their product when the small print says only 10 people tested it. It's pointless.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:00:50

I'd say 15 is definately statistically insignificant and I am very very very worryingly good at research and stattey marketey stuff.

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:01:38

I'd say 15 is definately statistically insignificant and I am very very very worryingly good at research and stattey marketey stuff.

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 21:02:47

So good you had to tell us twice! To make doubly sure ...

Frontpaw Fri 07-Sep-12 21:16:02

Always double check your stats. Or I was just using the crapberry.

BIWI Fri 07-Sep-12 21:19:06

MNhoneydragonHQ Fri 07-Sep-12 21:43:41

You know they could be using other forums.....

Like Piston Heads, Bounty and NetMums. Why not sign up and join in there too grin

LadySybildeChocolate Sat 08-Sep-12 10:35:02

But we could end up with 3/4 if we do that. That wouldn't be fair, I only want one.

BiscuitNibbler Sat 08-Sep-12 16:41:41

My mum says this was reviewed in the Daily Mail today, and it said it is 250 pounds in John Lewis, not 350. It got a good review apparently.

5madthings Sat 08-Sep-12 16:52:58

were the shortlisted peeps emailed? so if we werent emailed we werent shorlisted?

just clarifying. i should also check my emails.
