TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 25-Jul-12 10:09:19

Hoover are looking for 5 Mumsnetters to put the new Globe Hoover to the test.

This is what Hoover says about the product: "Globe is Hoover's new manoeuvrable range of vacuum cleaners containing patented twist and steer technology allowing you to easily glide around furniture. The compact and lightweight design combines with a self aligning locking mechanism and directional control meaning that Globe is not only easy to manoeuvre but it also effortlessly negotiates obstacles and corners."

In order to really test what the Globe can do, Hoover will be setting challenges for testers to undertake during the trial and then asking them to add their feedback to a thread on MN and, if possible, send in pictures and/or video footage. The challenges include vacuuming around obstacles in the home, hard to reach places and stairs, cleaning up after pets etc. Please note that if you supply any video or photo footage, it may appear on MN, YouTube and/or Facebook.

This product test is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child. If you wish to take part in this trial please sign up here.

Everyone who takes part in the product test and leaves their feedback gets to keep the Globe Hoover after testing (RRP £229). There will also be an additional £30 Amazon voucher up for grabs for the tester who sends in the best video or photo of them doing the challenges.

Thanks and good luck!

BIWI Wed 25-Jul-12 10:34:29

Hmm. Very tempting, Helen. The only, and rather massive flaw, in this is that I would have to actually do the vacuuming.

So on that basis, I'm out.

grin

signed up, anything that can help with my permanently furry house is a winner for me. smile

I don't have stairs so don't think I'm eligible. Shame really, my hoover's nearly completely dead!

Done smile

<crosses fingers>

DanyTargaryen Wed 25-Jul-12 11:10:19

done.

LegoAcupuncture Wed 25-Jul-12 11:10:20

God, yes please! Have an ancient (2nd hand) vaccuum cleaner and would love a new one.

I've signed up, my dog has seen off menny menny hoovers in his time (well, his hair has) - we'd give it a jolly good workout!

LetUsPrey Wed 25-Jul-12 11:17:25

I've signed up. After much research by me earlier this year/last year, we bought a Miele. DH - who does the bulk of the vacuuming - loathes it and says it's rubbish. I don't want to have to Leave The Bastard for dissing Miele so hopefully he can have a new one to try out.

No! The Miele is on my list of things to buy with my lottery win this weekend! Really shit?

Actually Ljups, that was a shameless stealth boast and it ALMOST got past me.

You can afford a Miele
Your DH does most of the hoovering

Boasty Boasterson. grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Wed 25-Jul-12 11:22:12

Signed up - it has to be an improvement on the crappy Dyson I curse on a fortnightly daily basis!

LetUsPrey Wed 25-Jul-12 11:25:02

grin Sjue.

He also cooks.

But thankfully doesn't look like Steven Seagal.

Cokeaholic Wed 25-Jul-12 11:47:00

Well, my husband was responsible for the awkward lump of a miele which I for one find a right faff and not easy to manoeuvre (sp??).

He is blinded by gadgetry and product snobbery however and practical every day use didn't factor in the purchasing process.

Done. I hope its lightweight manoeuvrable design means the DCs will use it more often than they use the ancient Dyson, I might have to pay them more than 10p a room too!

MyDogShitsMoney Wed 25-Jul-12 12:11:58

Oh my flipping G, I reeeaaaaallly need to get picked for this one!

I flipping love hoovering.

Ok, that's a lie, but I do do it a bloody lot.

I have a dog, 2 cats, a crawling baby and a crappy Dyson that won't work on my crappy laminate floor so I have to take the nozzle out and do it with the weird brush attachment thingy. (which I incidentally use for every cleaning job including the front door step)

I have to hoover every hour or so at the moment because the bloody animals won't stop bloody moulting every-fucking-where angry

See my sad face sad, please pick me sad.

I've signed up. Anything has to be better than the 'Turbo' brush on my Vax.
I could sue them for false advertising on that alone!!

My hair or the Doodle's fur and it's blocked.

UnChartered Wed 25-Jul-12 12:19:08

i've signed DH up for this too

grin

I think 'pet' vacuums must actually be shitter than the bog standard version. I have to brush my carpets with a stiff brush first and regularly have at the brush head with scissors. DD and I both have long hair, which adds to the woe.

MNHQ, have I mentioned how good I would be at this test? Cos I would be. I'd have a mini obstacle course for that vacuum, it'd be like Vacuum Boot Camp.

Pascha Wed 25-Jul-12 12:30:01

I've signed up but if I do get it this will mean my husband might actually make me do some hoovering. It can't possibly be worse than the second hand dyson which does bugger all.

I hate hoovering. I love new gadgets though.

ForestFloor Wed 25-Jul-12 12:37:48

Signed up! Another sufferer of DH-will-choose-the-technology Dyson. He reckoned it was the best on the market when he we bought it.
He has to do the lugging about now, as it is like moving a small, but dense darlek around the house. A darlek that isn't much interested in cleaning, either.

I'd love to test drive a Globe - it sounds ideal for us. I did boggle a bit at one of the pictures on the website. It reminded me somewhat of a rampant rabbit blush. Was that just me? grin

walkingonthemoon Wed 25-Jul-12 12:42:06

Signed up

shelley72 Wed 25-Jul-12 12:57:41

signed up for this. have been through 2 dysons, a samsung and NOTHING keeps the bloody carpets clean. would be impressed if it works!

ColumboIsMyHero Wed 25-Jul-12 13:01:21

Ooo pls pick me. Similar to MyDog I've got two cats, a dog, a crawling child and a 3 yo. And a DH who thinks that a fairy hoovers or rather that because we have a cleaner once a week we never need to hoover in between and I've got really crap weak hands so need something light and maneouvreable

Tee2072 Wed 25-Jul-12 13:02:16

Me! Me! Me! grin

Have signed up, I currently have a henry which is a pain in the backside to use on stairs and is not great to get around corners either. I previously had a philips universe which was much better than henry!

lubeybooby Wed 25-Jul-12 13:03:13

Signed up. Please please me me me! Cat fluff and obstacles do my head in, in my house.

EauRouge Wed 25-Jul-12 13:15:43

I've signed up too, 2 cats and 2 children are too much for our current vacuum cleaner.

Babylon1 Wed 25-Jul-12 13:16:49

I've signed up, would love to take a video of DH a la Freddie Mercury wink

<sings, I want to breeeeeeak free!!!>

mumnosbest Wed 25-Jul-12 13:26:49

i think im done?
this might actually make me get off my sofa do some hoovering!

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 25-Jul-12 13:37:04

Done. A new dyson is on my list of things I need, so if the hoover's better I'll be so impressed. smile

raininginbaltimore Wed 25-Jul-12 13:57:35

Done.

We have a miele and a dyson and I hate both. We have cats that leave fluff everywhere.

Pinot Wed 25-Jul-12 14:14:37

3 sons
2 dogs
2 cats
1 Husband

There is no tougher test wink

ColumboIsMyHero Wed 25-Jul-12 15:01:50

You win pinot . It's the husband that's the final straw wink

ggirl Wed 25-Jul-12 15:13:55

Well if Pinot gets it then I must...it's the law.

Pinot Wed 25-Jul-12 15:24:37

True dat, twinnygg

<curtseys to Columbo> grin

I have the stupid dyson rollerball thing thanks to DH.

I may finally be able to get rid of it. The dyson not the DH. Although both tempting ATM.

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 25-Jul-12 15:43:50

My dyson is about 10 years old and the motor is on the way out. It was a good little thing sad

Signed up.

Please, please let it be me! grin

3teenhell Wed 25-Jul-12 16:25:03

signed up, please let it be me. I have 4 dc and 2 cats and hoover twice a day!! I know i'm anal, but can't help it

I have signed up. My ex took all his stuff when we split up, including the hoover, so it would be a very welcome addition to the household, which is full of pets and animals... ahem, I mean children.

poppy1973 Wed 25-Jul-12 16:27:21

I have added my name too.

FartBlossom Wed 25-Jul-12 16:55:45

Done with 3 kids and 3 pets ok so the rat doesn't actually make too much mess and my hair always finding it's way everywhere Henry isn't doing a great job any more he says we've worked him too hard and he wants to retire this would be a welcome product trial for us. Its not like we will be able to afford a new one any time soon

BiscuitNibbler Wed 25-Jul-12 17:23:46

I've applied - my house is crying out for this. My DD's toy vacuum has more suction than my old Dyson!

Thecunningstunt Wed 25-Jul-12 17:49:56

I would so love to be picked for this! I hoover every day....and this looks very good!

ornellaia Wed 25-Jul-12 18:15:35

I've signed up for this, I think I might have killed my sebo today cleaning up the rubble dust left behind by the window fitters.

JustPondering Wed 25-Jul-12 18:25:36

I would love to try this hoover out grin ME!

Fiveisenough Wed 25-Jul-12 18:41:41

Hope I get picked. I have five kids 3 storeys and hoover everyday. Fair test I would say. Fingers crossed!!

Stitchthis Wed 25-Jul-12 18:46:21

Signed up

Signed up. This would be a great test for us, we've just moved into a building site newly knocked-about house, and the floors (and everything else too) are filthy. I'd love to have a shot at this one.

newlark Wed 25-Jul-12 19:00:43

bluebump Wed 25-Jul-12 19:14:21

Wolfcub Wed 25-Jul-12 19:57:43

I've signed up, I would love to find a decent vacuum cleaner

SirBoobAlot Wed 25-Jul-12 21:53:17

I'm signed up. Find a lot of vacuum cleaners just too heavy for me to manouver with my stupid body. Would be delighted to find one that wasn't!.

muddledsheep Wed 25-Jul-12 22:00:07

Done, here's hoping :-)

Davinaaddict Wed 25-Jul-12 22:57:26

Me please! My Dyson is on its last legs, and with 2 small children, a vacuum is essential to the house! grin

Ladygaggia Wed 25-Jul-12 23:19:36

The challenges sound like my typical cleaning - around obstacles grin

Popoozle Wed 25-Jul-12 23:40:05

Please, please pick me! Another MNer who's permanently disappointed by a Dyson grin.

Tigerbomb Wed 25-Jul-12 23:43:57

I have my fingers, legs, and eyes crossed that I will be one of the lucky 5

CJCregg Thu 26-Jul-12 01:09:50

Done. I also lost a good hoover to my ex and ended up with a crappy hand-me-down dyson which I am putting up with as no money for anything better. Would love to try out a Globe smile

albertswearengen Thu 26-Jul-12 09:55:41

Dillydollydaydream Thu 26-Jul-12 13:41:49

I've signed up. I've got an ancient Dyson that I can't justify replacing at the moment. We have guinea pigs and cats so need something super sucky!

Dilly shock please please don't "super sucky" the guinea pigs!grin

ouryve Thu 26-Jul-12 16:11:10

We have a navy carpet (not our choice) and my kids are Hansel and Gretel. Between them and DH and his DIY, our Dyson is on its last legs (and out of warranty, now). I need this!

And I'll be taking the pictures, tyvm!

ouryve Thu 26-Jul-12 16:13:36

Another one to add to the MN profile. The scarf, the haircut, a distates for Greggs sausage rolls and fruitshoots and now, the elderly dys(functi)on

Erm...hello?

Isn't anyone else intrigued by the fact that the Globe has directionanal control?

Shouldn't this thread be saved for Friday?

Sounds fun - definitely signed up! grin

Gauchita Thu 26-Jul-12 18:32:17

Done! I'm v disappointed in our Dyson sad Fingers crossed!

browny Thu 26-Jul-12 19:18:05

All done...would love to just hoover and for the carpet to look half decent, instead of being covered in dog/cat/daughters' hair!

mynameis Thu 26-Jul-12 19:25:15

Oh no please disregard my comment box blush darn autocorrect

Will submit another one

stubbornstains Thu 26-Jul-12 20:39:58

Signed up. Heartfelt contributor to getorfmoiland's hoover rage thread. I have an actual Tesco value vacuum cleaner. 'Nuff said.

Columbo, you have a cleaner once a week and hoover inbetween??

memphis83 Thu 26-Jul-12 21:16:21

Done, is it very sad that I'm having a crap week and would actually be chuffed to bits to be picked? grin <saddo>

fivegomadindorset Thu 26-Jul-12 23:36:00

done on behalf of my husband as he is the hooverer

Tortoise Fri 27-Jul-12 00:00:23

Done.
My dyson has actually lasted well but bits keep braking off and its not performing well anymore. I have 2 dogs and 4 dc so I have to vacuum a lot!

Booboobedo Fri 27-Jul-12 08:38:18

Lovely sunny days means doors and windows open and dust and grass cuttings everywhere. Dog moulting and bunny fluff flying around. Baby Grandson visiting so needing to hoover.... Damn! Haul the Miele out of the garage. Attach all the bits, scrabble around searching for the extension lead. An hour later and melting from all the Olympics I've done just to clean my house and I'm wishing I had a Hoover Globe. Whip it out, run round the house in 15 minutes. No crevice tool to have to switch to to catch all the fluff that gathers along the skirting. All done and it's Pimms O'clock. Sounds like a dream? Yes pleeeeeeeze HOOVER. Choose me.

perfectstorm Fri 27-Jul-12 10:02:18

I really, really want this. DS is allergic to dust (asthmatic, but also contact dermatitis, eczema, prickly heat in summer because he has keratosis pilaris all year round...) and we moved. A flat all on one floor, huge rooms because it's a Georgian conversion, and even a crappy hoover is fine to use every day. Tiny Victorian terrace - the kind where the stairs bisect the living room and kitchen downstairs? Oh God. A hoover that actually goes AROUND stuff sounds amazing to me. I hate, hate HATE hoovering, but since DS was a few months old and we realised the issue I seem to spend a lot of my life doing it. Something to make that easier would be brilliant.

NeedaCoolNickname Fri 27-Jul-12 10:50:07

Done <<crosses fingers and toes>>

Thecunningstunt Fri 27-Jul-12 10:57:23

Right you lot, stop signing up for this or I won't be selected! wink

WingDefence Fri 27-Jul-12 11:04:13

Signed up. I hate hoovering so anything that would make my life easier would be welcomed.

vincenta Fri 27-Jul-12 11:15:01

Oh!Please, choose meeeeee!!!! smile

skyninja Fri 27-Jul-12 11:34:30

I have a Miele Cat and Dog which I love, but it's fair to say it's had a bit of a battering and I need to start saving to buy a new vacuum. I have had two Dysons die on me (and they weren't even mine, oops), so actually I'd be tempted to go for a Miele again.

And I too have a dog that sheds every bloody where AND it's not supposed to shed that much grrrrr. Non shedding my backside.

Bubby64 Fri 27-Jul-12 12:09:23

Dog and cat hair, messy pre-teens and dust off DH work wear- Please pick me!!

ErmaGerd Fri 27-Jul-12 12:50:51

I did this the other day - I have lots of messy children, hairy dogs and cats, and a Hoover on its last legs.
Please pick me smile

DairyNips Fri 27-Jul-12 13:27:56

Oh please let us get one, we are the house of hair what with the dog and my hair falling out all over after having ds3sad

MyLittleMiracles Fri 27-Jul-12 13:48:55

My hover broke last week so fingers crossed cos I need a new one desperately but can't afford it (sad, puppy face please please pick me)

fingers crossed I get picked, lots of messy little ones, big ones and animals in my house, then I can give back the 80's/70's hoover on loan from mil (not exaggerating either!)

molepom Fri 27-Jul-12 14:41:38

Done. ADHD children tend to demolish hoovers just by looking at them.

Birnamwood Fri 27-Jul-12 17:14:06

No, pick me! Forgot to add on the form, we have light coloured carpets in the lounge which the black dog sheds her fur on and burgundy carpet on the stairs and landing that the white dog sheds his fur on. I can't bloody win angry add to that a teething, crawling baby, he ends up furrier than the dogs. I neeeed a new Hoover for the health of my baby. <guilt trip>

Please

Thank you

<winning smile>

MrAnchovy Fri 27-Jul-12 19:58:43

I don't want a free Hoover, I just want the airline tickets they promised me in 1994.

poorbuthappy Sat 28-Jul-12 16:52:15

Have the pickees been picked yet?

SarahStratton Sat 28-Jul-12 20:34:18

Me, me, me, me, me. I neeeeeeeeeeed a HEPA hoover to get rid of the asthmas Weasleys.

Blatherskite Sat 28-Jul-12 21:37:08

Done. Please save me from my god-awful Dyson <pleads>

alibeenherealongtime Sun 29-Jul-12 06:44:19

I don't ever Hoover because one can only hoover with a Hoover and I don't have a Hoover.Ii vacuum with a Sebo and a Meile, i should win so I can Hoover too!

bsmirched Sun 29-Jul-12 18:33:47

I should definitely have this please - I have a toddler and 2 permanently moulting Jack Russells! I think I could probably make another one from what they leave behind!

I've signed up, really really need to find a decent replacement for my useless Dyson! It is driving me mad. I haven't hoovered for days now because everytime I use it I want to throw it out of the window.

TheCunningOlympicBMXStunt Mon 30-Jul-12 12:22:06

This is staying open far to long......wink

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 30-Jul-12 12:31:16

This is now closed! We'll be choosing MNers this week and will be in touch with them asap.

TheCunningOlympicBMXStunt Mon 30-Jul-12 13:15:54

Goodluck everyone..... everything crossed I am picked

<keeps everything crossed> I haven't done a trial for ages!

Stitchthis Mon 30-Jul-12 13:35:26

It'll really suck not to be chosen. Which is ironic. grin

jumps around noticeably

which is ironic as I can't do that in real life

<crosses fingers and toes>

<notices stuff all over cream carpets in new house>

<crosses eyes>

AlbumsOfMyYouth Tue 31-Jul-12 16:04:18

Would it be relevant to mention that I haven't hoovered since I signed up for this test - so I really need to be picked before I disappear into a fug of dustbunnies and assorted child-related detritis shock. No pressure, obviously...grin

Tortoise Tue 31-Jul-12 20:17:17

Keeping my fingers crossed. So much extra mess on my carpets with dc all at home.

Babylon1 Tue 31-Jul-12 22:43:30

Keeping everything crossable crossed here!! I love a good vacuuming session grin

AND I really will make DH dress as Freddie Mercury and video him doing it!!!

TheCunningOlympicBMXStunt Wed 01-Aug-12 11:08:02

Any news anyone? I just realised there are only 5shock. My chances are very very slim!

ScorpionQueen Wed 01-Aug-12 12:53:17

Did I win? My carpets need a good vacuum.
(begging emoticon)
thanks

Stitchthis Wed 01-Aug-12 16:19:17

My mites need sorting!! Put us out of our misery confused

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 01-Aug-12 16:25:12

I really need a new vacuum cleaner. {hands over chocolate cake and wine} smile

I keep waiting too!

I keep looking at those pesky dog hairs on the carpet and dream of them being gone.......maybe I should just get the hoover on them blush

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 01-Aug-12 16:33:03

My stairs are so dusty and I can't get the pull out brush on the dyson to work. There's something stuck inside it and I can't get the fecking thing out. sad I'm also assuming the smoke coming out of the motor isn't a good sign.

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 01-Aug-12 17:15:38

Sorry ladies - still no news - hopefully won't be too much longer!

LadySybildeChocolate Wed 01-Aug-12 17:17:06

It's alright, it means I don't have to do any cleaning. wine grin

TheCunningStunt Wed 01-Aug-12 17:17:57

I just ran over my Hoover wire with the hooverblush it's fixed up with electrical tapesad. Will need a new one whether we get this or not. What an idiotblushblush

Wolfcub Wed 01-Aug-12 17:32:00

I have relatives visiting at weekend and the carpets need doing, I could also contribute enough hair off the carpet to make someone a wig or several Wiggins-style sideburnss

Stitchthis Wed 01-Aug-12 17:39:57

Ah. I think you already know who's won. You're just tidying up the floors at t'towers with those glamourous Globes before handing them over Aren't you?

AlbumsOfMyYouth Wed 01-Aug-12 19:13:13

I wonder how testers are chosen? Is it about how prolific a poster they are? How good their statement was on the application? How clear/amusing their written english is? How many pets/children/types of flooring they have in their house? What kind of hoover they have had before?
I suspect that claiming to have a filthy house won't clinch it though smile. Darn it!

Waits impatiently...

TheCunningStunt Wed 01-Aug-12 19:24:40

It's nothing to do with posting history. These things don't work that way....I think it's a mix of all things on the application and from products I have applied for before, it's usually down to the company and not MNHQ .......if only it was down to prolific posting....grin

Will you say when the people have been notified? (so I can stop checking my inbox smile)

poorbuthappy Thu 02-Aug-12 14:33:46

I thought I'd missed out!
Has the picking not been done yet?

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 02-Aug-12 15:16:17

ScorpionQueen Thu 02-Aug-12 18:39:35

Maybe, as we are so upset, we could get a discount after the product tests in case we want to buy one ourselves...
smile

PurpleCrazyHorse Thu 02-Aug-12 20:01:20

OMG, our Dyson flex has split so I was dicing with death vacuuming yesterday. How very exciting, I think I might need to take it on holiday with me too. Hoping it arrives soon as the Dyson has gone to the tip!

Thank you MNTowers I've not won anything for years and years.

Babylon1 Thu 02-Aug-12 21:49:40

OMG!!!!! grin

I might have to set my dh up for his freddie mercury impression too smile

Really sorry about this everyone - am trying to work out what's gone wrong as we speak (and simultaneously worrying that I'm losing my marbles). I'll get back to you as soon as I can...

I just got an email- can I run around the house screaming yet? Is it for real? shock

Thank you MN!

I have just received my hoover grin

The only trouble is...now I have to do housework!! Right lets get started wink

Guess that means my email from MNHQ was an error and I'm not getting one after all sad?

Oh sorry MrsJohnDeere sad

TheOtherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 15-Aug-12 18:16:45

Sorry MrsJohnDeere - I did email you again to explain what had occurred and to apologise profusely but maybe it didn't get through? I'll PM you my email (too embarrassed about how grovelly it is to share here!)

MrsJohnDeere Wed 15-Aug-12 21:17:43

No worries. Didn't get the second email confused but have seen your PM now. I'll get over it!
