This thread is for the 11 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AEG L89499FL washing machine.

Here’s what AEG have to say: ‘It’s time to care more for the garments that mean something to us. AEG washing machines are the best way to keep your clothes feeling like new. Even those one-of-a-kind pieces that are more than just a fabric. Our washing machines provide incredible gentleness and superb washing results using the least energy’

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your washing machine.

So, for your first impressions, AEG would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?
  • What features have been the most useful to you so far?

After you have tested the product for a few weeks, AEG would like to know:

  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
  • What has been your favourite feature overall?
  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by AEG on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

My first impression: I love it! So easy to use, mahoosive capacity

Wash results: excellent. I thought we were doing pretty well, but towels and sheets are noticeably cleaner and its all fresher
Sound levels - incredibly quiet
Ease of use: really easy, and so easy to change the programmes
Features: outdoor clothing wash has been great, and I've been really impressed with the steam refresh programme

I also love it. The drum size has cut down the amount of time I spend washing, I can fit lots in on one wash need a bigger tumble dryer now

The door is really light and clicks in to place a lot easier than my old machine.

I like the 20 minute 3kg cycle. It means I can chuck a pair of DDs jeans in along with the school blazers without having to wait to do a full wash.

Once finished the actual clothes are coming out of the machine a lot lighter than with my other machine which seemed to leave everything drenched and I'm assuming that's because the drum is so much larger the clothes are getting to move around more.

It's very very quiet, no more shutting the kitchen door and the living room door to be able to hear the TV during the spin cycle Smile

The panel is very easy to navigate although it took me a while to work out what goes where in the detergent tray even with the instructions but that was probably me.

First impressions so far:

  • Very easy to use and switch between programmes.
  • It's super quiet. I had to check the first time that it was actually still on! Even the spin cycle is quiet.
  • Huge capacity. My old washing machine was 8kg but didn't seem to cope when loaded that much. I can fit so much in it means I'm spending less time on the washing, which is always a bonus.
  • I can't say I've noticed a huge difference between this and my old one with how clean the clothes come out. They definitely do seem lighter though so need less drying time.
  • Haven't really used many of the programmes yet (mostly used the mixed/cotton) so don't feel able to comment.
  • Only negative so far is how long a standard 9kg cotton wash takes - 4 hours! I used to be able to wash and dry a load in an evening after work with my old machine but as it takes so long, this is difficult. I find I'm having to change my clothes washing routine to fit in with how long it takes.

What were your impressions from the first few uses?

I was really pleased. I've never had a larger capacity machine and it makes a massive difference being able to get the 9kg in. It looks really nice. I've always had integrated ones before but despite this being freestanding I think it looks better than integrated. There were no problems settling in we just got stuck in with our washing.

  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Wash results have been excellent, I've not had any issues unlike previous machines. Sounds levels are really impressive, it's so quiet and very still! Again previous ones have been noisy and rattled all over the place. It was easy to use. I'm not particularly techy but the instructions made a lot of sense and I only had to refer to the book once, it was very intuitive. I think some of the programs have been quite long and that is different from my previous machines but I'm getting used to the different options and which loads need a longer cycle.

  • What features have been the most useful to you so far?

The larger washes for cottons and the quick wash. I can get all my towels on at once and have even done my sofa covers!

  1. What were your impressions from the first few uses?

  • Once Dh had sorted out the fact that it had been plumbed in incorrectly (which I know isn't AEG's fault) then all good. LOVE the big drum (used to have a larger drum then went back to a standard drum - wouldn't go back again!); generally seems easy to use; has coped with a range of washing types well

  1. So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

wash results: good - I don't especially notice that things are massively cleaner, tbh - but they are better spun
Sound levels are really impressive. We have our machine in an outside shed, but I've noticed that when I have the back door open I can hear the washing machine 2 doors down, but not ours!
Ease of use - OK. It has taken me a while to find my way around the different cycles and get a hang of how long each is (as others have said, some cycles do seem long...) but nothing genuinely hard or tricky.

  1. What features have been the most useful to you so far?

I LOVE the feature that measures how much washing is in the drum - and am sure that is making my washing more efficient. I keep forgetting to turn the machine on before I put things in, but otherwise, that is a great feature.

I also love the outdoors cycle - with kids who mountain bike; do scouts/cubs; and a family who generally do a lot of walking/outdoors stuff this is a very useful idea for us. If I'm absolutely honest, I'm not sure what is different about the outdoor cycle vs any other one, but it seems to work on the mountain bike kit so all good!

The idea of the steam refresh is interesting/different, but tbh I haven't actually found any occasions to use it yet. Will aim to do so before the next thread!

First Impressions:
Very impressed with the new machine, particularly the huge drum. I'm quite energy conscious too, so pleased with the A+++ rating.

Wash results have been good, no complaints. It seems to spin the clothes much drier than my old machine, which must lead to quicker drying times.

Sound levels are really good. It's very quiet, even when spinning.

The machine is very easy to use, the panel is very intuitive and it's easy to change temperature of a load, or use the delay function. I'm pleased that it has a child lock feature.

Most useful feature so far is probably the 20 minute wash cycle which has enabled me to quickly wash PE kits/Football kits and hang them ready for school the next morning. I am surprised how clean everything is on such a short wash. The large drum is also useful as it holds around twice what my old machine would, however a really full load seems to take forever (nearly 4 hours), even at 40 degrees, so i'm not sure if it's any quicker than doing two loads in my old machine.

-What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Looks really good, fits lots in to the drum and impressed with cleanliness. It is bigger than my old one so doesn't quite fit in the space left for it!

  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Washes really well, clothes are much better spun and dry quicker. Very easy to use and extremely quiet
  • What features have been the most useful to you so far

The quick wash, which is great for mid week sports kit calamities!

Cant comment on this machine but i will never buy an AEG appliance again. A couple of years ago i splashed out on an expensive AEG condenser drier. 13 months later it died. It was only used about once a week as we are a small household. AEG totally did not want to know.

I then found that AEG hasnt existed for years. They are not German. All that heppened was electrolux bought the trade name and now badge their appliances as AEG and hike the price up. I ended up thretening to take the retailer to court under the SOGA and i finally got a repair..new circuit board.

AEG? rubbish service..

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Quiet quiet quiet! To the point where I have to check if it's on!
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

There's a lot of programmes which can be quite challenging when trying to chose especially if you are doing a wash which could fall under more than 1 programme.
Did I mention how quiet it was? Smile
And yes I couldn't work out which of the drawer to use for powder.
  • What features have been the most useful to you so far?

The fact the door opens as soon as it finishes. This is massive for me. I could never understand why this seemed to be a problem for every other machine I've ever owned!

I have 1 small query. I can't get it to weigh the washing every time I load even though I make sure the machine is on before I load. Is it only on certain programmes?
Also (2 small queries then) sometimes I fill the machine choose be programme which suits, and it tells me it's 2.30 hours. I press start look back a few minutes later and the time has gone up to 3.40!!! Twice that's happened and the 2nd time was just now.

Anyone else had timing issues?

teainbed · 11/10/2016 19:45

The instructions said that it recalculated sometimes up to 15 minutes after starting it to get the most efficient wash.

I love that the door opens straight away too!

Very quiet, even in the spinning cycle. This is super useful when kids taking nap.

  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Very easy to use and great capacity. A lot of programs to choose so a bit challenging at the beginning. The wash results are great and clothes came out really dry, which is a plus.
  • What features have been the most useful to you so far? 20 minute wash cycle is a great feature. I like it as it can provide quick wash while having dinner and there's no noise at all.

-What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Very good indeed. We previously had a perfectly-fine-but-fairly-bog-standard machine, and this one is a hundred times better. After the first wash I was amazed by how 'dry' the washing felt - I assume that the 1400 spin mechanism 'dries' it more than my previous machine did. I had become used to washing coming out still with marks on it, whereas this machine cleans even the toughest dried-on stains beautifully (I sound like an advert don't I....). I'm another who loves that the door opens straight away.

  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Wash results are brilliant. In my first wash I used stain remover spray as usual but forgot to put it one of my tops with a large quantity of unfortunate gravy spillage on it. That top came out just as spotless as all the others did - not a glimmer of gravy stain anywhere. The sound is brilliant - sooo quiet that we can't hear when it's on, whereas our previous machine you could hear in the next room and also upstairs! There are a lot of programmes, which makes ease of use slightly complicated to start with, but the manual is very clear so I just need to get used to which programme is best at doing what.

  • What features have been the most useful to you so far?

The delicates wash has been superb. DS2 has a very special cuddly bunny who is too fragile to just chuck in the machine, but I put him in the delicates wash and he survived the experience very well. DS2's review is that "the machine got Bert very clean and now he smells too clean too". The boys have dry-clean-only school blazers so I'm looking forward to using the steam feature to freshen them up when needed - I think this is an absolutely brilliant feature which would most likely be beyond my price range. The 20 minute wash cycle is another brilliant feature.

My first impressions were very positive. The machine looks lovely and sleek, fitted into the space much better than the old machine and controls look professional and easy to use. The drum also looked a lot bigger than my old machine which was an 8kg maximum load and I was surprised at the difference in size.
The wash results are incredible, I would not have complained about my last machine but the towels and whites are coming out a lot cleaner and whiter. The sound level is also very different and so much quieter which I really like given that the machine is situated in the kitchen which is a busy room in the house. It has been very easy to use which the combination of the dial and buttons and then selecting the correct temperature and spin speed.
I really like the weigh the washing feature and advice on how much powder/softner to use. The wash cycles do take much longer when the cotton cycle is used and it also seems to change the cycle length after the cycle has started, however the clothes are cleaner and a more efficient cycle means that I don't mind changing when I put the wash on.
It has great flexibility with the gentle washes for woolies and then long washes for cottons and sportswear.
So far I am really impressed with this machine and would now choose to buy a better and more expensive machine for the better quality wash.

I have to say, I am impressed with this machine. Firstly, I like the look of it, with its sleek silver control panel and dial to select the programme.
There are lots of programmes to choose from and i confess it took me a while to get to grips with it.
It has a huge drum capacity which is great for all of our sheets, towels etc.
I love the fact that it instructs you on how much detergent to use.
I cannot believe how quiet it is in comparison with my old machine (I used to have to close 2 internal doors and you would still hear it juddering).
I love the 20 minute quick wash at 30 degrees - brilliant for school uniforms with gravy spilt down them. Quick wash and into the airing cupboard overnight.
I noticed that some programmes are much longer than others (3 hours is absolutely too long for me) but using the time saving function can reduce them somewhat.
Finally, with regard to the quality of washing, I cannot find fault with it.

I used the steam refresh function yesterday - initially on one of DHs suit jackets that was lurking at the back of his wardrobe rather unloved (as I wasn't risking his best jackets into the unknown!).
It went in, incredibly creased, quite a lot of marks and with a very healthy sprinkling of cat hair. It came out fresh smelling, pretty much uncreased, and without marks and cat hair.
Other suits have now gone through and dh is delighted with the results

First impressions are that is is very solidly built, I think it definitely feels built to last. Our last couple of machines have been very cheap ones and the difference really shows.

I'm amazed by how quiet it is - we have ours in the kitchen and you can barely tell it's going on the wash bit, obviously a little noisier on spin, but still really quiet. And the spin cycle seems to leave the clothes only mildly damp as opposed to actually wet. I tumble most stuff and it has really cut down on dryer time.

The programme select dial is OK, but a lot of the programmes are very very long, some over 4 hours. There is a time saver button which reduces the time though.

The 20min 3kg cycle is really useful for the "but I told you I had PE tomorrow" at 10pm moments...

Not tried the steam refresh yet, need to reread the instructions.

What were your impressions from the first few uses?

We love this machine. I was sceptical at first that it would be any better than our previous Smeg washing machine. It has been fabulous. The drum size is huge - offering 10kg of space - and has really proven itself on cleaning the clothes and spinning them until they are almost dry.

The machine is so silent that I have been checking to see if it is actually on. We can have the machine open and both doors open without hearing a thing in any room downstairs. I cannot believe how quiet it is.

So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

We have not used all it has to offer yet but the washes we have used have all impressed us. I like the 20 minute quick wash for those items who aren't really dirty but just need a freshen up.

I cannot stress enough how quiet this machine is! Seriously it is phenomenal.

What features have been the most useful to you so far?

The size of the drum. We have found that the bottleneck with our washing is the drying now. I was going to apply for the AEG dryer but it felt cheeky. :) We will be investing in an AEG dryer when we need one.

I particularly like how the powder is pre-mixed and enters the drum all over. I was not expecting great results based on the spin ratio but despite it being 1400 it produces dryer clothes that our previous machine. We really do love this washing machine.

We really love this machine and cannot thank you enough for giving us the chance to test it. DH really loves it and is telling anyone who will listen how great it is.

I am going to use the steam clean tonight. I have a new dress that needs cleaning so will be trying this out. I have been over impressed with everything so far and anticipate that it will not let me down.

Not something I've noticed before but I set the timer last night to do an overnight white wash finishing around 6am. The beeping when finished woke me up, it beeped lots!
I've probably not noticed before because I've gone straight out and opened the door, thankfully the door releases super quick otherwise tat constant beeping would be very annoying.

Any one else?
