This is the feedback thread for the 100 Mumsnetters who are trying the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser and antibacterial surface wipes with their baby aged 1 and under.

Here’s what Milton have to say about the products: "Our single bottle travel steriliser can be used in a microwave or with cold water. It’s ideal when you’re out and about during the day, for holidays or for overnight stays –as you don’t then need to carry your usual bulky sterilisers with you. It sterilises from 2 minutes in the microwave and in 15 mins with cold water. We're really proud of the unique safety vent technology which increases the temperature inside for better sterilisation. We'd love to know what Mumsnetters think about it!"

More info on the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser here and the antibacterial surface wipes here.

I really like the steriliser and it's great for travel. We regularly take trips to grandparents who live 1.5 and 4 hours away and take day trips out to local attractions. We tried ours while out for a day trip with my MIL as I hadn't had time to sort out all bottles for the baby the system meant I didn't have to! We got the first bottle in before the drive so it was ready to be used when we got tour our destination.

The wipes are also great for cafes to make sure everything is cleaned after we leave. Our toddler can be so messy!

Continued!

It was really easy to follow all instructions. And I would definitely recommend for someone else who travels as much as us. It takes all the hassle out of sterilising and keeping that way. The wipes are just handy no matter how old and save us using our wipes for nappy changes on surfaces!

it has been used extensively at home or when visiting using a microwave. It has also been useful on long days out but the 15 minute period must be taken into account. Restaurants etc are happy to pop it in the microwave if requested.
It was reasonably straight forward to use. it would probably be worth the investment if competitively priced. I don't comment on products to other people as a matter of principal but seeing it in use is the best recommendation.

We have taken the solo travel steriliser on days out and when visiting friends and family . I liked to use the microwave function for bottles and the tablet sterilisation for teethers, the feeding net and plastic cutlery. Both were easy to use . I had a vomity unwell baby so the wipes could not have come at a better time . I used them to wipe the buggy as well as highchairs in restaurants and they were brilliant in a light and handy packet. I loved both the products and will definately use them again. I would definately recommend the wipes and the solo steriliser it's great to have the flexibility to use both methods .

I have you the Solo both at home and while visiting family. I have used it with the tablets and in the microwave. Although I have only been able to use it in the microwave at home and it wouldn't in the microwaves at my parents or my sisters.

The wipes have come in very useful especially when out. I have used them to clean down high chairs in restaurants, the pram and also her sippy cup and dummy on a few occasions while out.

I was surprised how easy the Solo was to use. It really is as easy as dropping the bottles in and waiting. I like the fact you can leave the bottles in the solution until you are ready to use them.

I would buy the Solo if the price was right and I would definitely buy the wipes again as they were really handy to have in my bag all the time.

I will certainly recommend both of these products to my friends and family.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I've used the steriliser at my mum's house and the antibacterial wipes at home and in town when having lunch.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
The steriliser is very easy to use but instructions and pictures don't mention what you should do with the teat and lid of the bottle, I ended up squishing them inside on top of the bottle. The button isn't clear when it is pressed down as there is no click to it. I used it on its side as my microwave is quite small and it worked well. I loved the wipes, not too wet and not a strong smell.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
The wipes I would definitely, the steriliser would be helpful more when my son is older and having less bottles per day, at present he is having 5 so it would take too long to sterilise for 6 minutes and leave for three each time.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend
Yes, especially if they were going camping or travelling abroad with the baby on holiday.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about? I've used the wipes at home and when out with my son. The steriliser I have used at home and when visiting family.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow? Simple and easy to use - only read once and knew what to do!
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable? Funny enough I was at Boots and spotted the price of the steriliser c£11 so didn't think it was too pricey - maybe replacing the tablets will be what's costly.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend? Yes I would especially if you're going travelling and don't want to carry the bulky sterilisers. I'm actually thinking of gifting to a friend that's just had a baby!

Really impressed with the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser, very quick and easy to use. Have used it both for cold water sterilisation and in the microwave at home. Great now my daughter has fewer bottles, has meant I can put my large steriliser away. Works well with our Avent Natural bottles. Bulkier than I would have liked though for a single bottle steriliser, especially if taking out and about in my changing bag.
The wipes are excellent for cleaning high chairs when eating in restaurants. We have used these since we started weaning our daughter 6 months ago and really trust them. Food safe and a nice compact pack size. Very simple to use, as is the steriliser.
I regularly buy the wipes and will continue to do so. Not sure I would buy the steriliser again, but only due to the large size for cleaning a single bottle, I would look for a neater single bottle steriliser. However would happily recommend both products to a friend as are effective, safe and easy to use.

I Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I have used the steriliser at home, using the cold water and tablet method, and antibacterial wipes on a highchair when out and about.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

The steriliser was extremely easy to use. Instructions were very simple and there were two basic methods to follow, both of which were easy to understand.
I used the cold water method first, and this was ever so convenient whilst at a family members house. It fits one Medela bottle and teat, so I could express and sterilise the bottle for 15 minutes, before using and storing away. I found I couldn't fit much more in there, however. Maybe a couple of dummies, if used, and a spoon or two.
The wipes were perfect for giving a sweep over the highchair table before use, and also for any teething toys dropped on the floor. Initially, the smell is ever so strong, and I doubted how safe it would be to use on a dummy before use, but after cleaning, the smell just vanishes. they really can be used anywhere and on anything.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

I would consider buying the travel steriliser although I did wonder if simply using an ice-cream container, or something similar, and a Milton tablet would be just the same.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

Q1: My LO just has a bedtime feed now so have only used it at home so far but will be taking it on holiday with us next month. I've used the wipes at home on allsorts... highchairs, toys, kitchen surfaces etc. and in cafes for high chairs and tables.
Q2: The steriliser is really easy to use, instructions very easy to follow. The only things that would make it easier to use would be a measure marker on the container for the 60ml water required and that the tablets were smaller, one per use rather than having to split them as they didn't split easily and it's not ideal to keep the open pieces. The wipes are easy to use too but not sure how you could have complicated wipes!
Q3: Yes I'd buy the steriliser, it's really handy for travelling and since I only need one cup a day, this is also the perfect size for everyday use for us. Saves loads of cupboard space. No, wouldn't buy the wipes. They're really alcohol smelling and feeling. They're more like the cleaning wipes used in hospitals and clinical settings than the antibacterial wipes of home cleaning brands.
Q4: Yes I'd recommend the steriliser but not the wipes (same reasons as q3).
Other comments: I had to lie the steriliser down, not a problem at all but it says you only have to do that in compact microwaves and I'm pretty sure mine is just a standard microwave. It says it takes from 2 mins but i think that's a pretty high powered microwave! Mine takes 6 mins. My LO has a cup rather than a bottle and both fitted in the pot no problem.

Posted too soon... Sorry!

Q3 continued...

...however, I like the fact you can use it in both a microwave AND using the cold water method.
I'd consider buying the wipes, without a doubt, as thy can be used not only on baby essentials, but also around the home and on mobile phones etc.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

I would recommend the wipes, as even though you could use a generic wipe to wipe away grime, it doesn't have the antibacterial benefits of the Milton Wipes.
The travel steriliser, I would recommend to someone who pops over to see family or friends, and just needs it for maybe one feed, or to pop dummies in whilst not in use. It is quite limited as to how much it contains.

Overall, I enjoyed testing both products and expected good quality as its a very well known company.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product/ service, which I received for free. This review is in my
own words and reflects my true opinion.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
We went to stay with friends for the weekend and took this with us to use to sterilise my daughter's bottles now she is combination fed. We used the wipes to clean highchairs when out and about and to clean her toys.
We are going camping soon and this will be ideal.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
I found the instructions very easy to follow and the steriliser was easy to use. The wipes were easy to use and the resealable package made them easy to keep ready for next time.
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
I would definitely buy the wipes again, if the price was right. I hope that the steriliser will last as long as I need it and I will not need to purchase it.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
I would definitely recommend these products to a friend, in fact I already have!

I have used this when visiting family, it is easy to pack up with the rest of the bits and bobs that go along with having a baby, and the fact that it is cold water and microwave compatible means it can be used anywhere. The wipes can just pop in a change bag without taking up too much space to clean surfaces and so others when out and about which I find useful as my toddler has a fascination with my six week olds dummies! I wish I'd had this on a camping holiday when my last baby was six months old as we had no electricity. When using at home I had to turn the steriliser on its side as I have a small microwave, this wasn't a problem and has been worked into the design with a flat part of the lid to stop the steriliser from rolling around. There were no leaks.
The steriliser is very easy to use and the instructions easy to follow. Just pop a bottle and teat in the pot, fill with water and microwave, or pop a sterilising tablet in for the cold water method. The wipes must be in contact with the surface to be cleaned for 30 seconds to be effective.
I would definitely invest in both of the products again, great products for out and about. I would recommend both products, especially the steriliser for its use with cold water. I have had microwave sterilising bags before which are easier to transport but if access to a microwave is a problem then this is the solution.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?days out for dummys and grandparents and friends to sterilize my breast pump. And to my surprise all the bits managed to fit.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow? Super easy for cold water sterilisation would struggle to fit in microwave unfortunately. Agree about tablets being awkward maybe separate tablets the right size for the steriliser. Wipes easy of course. Pack size just right for traveling.
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable? Most definitely really liked both products and would recommend esp for baby's use use dummys or mums who use nippel shields
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend? Yes for sure I would recommend to family and friends.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I have taken the steriliser on a play date to a friends house, and will be using it at an upcoming wedding.
It was really handy to be able to have a freshly sterilised bottle to hand, and since I took a second clean bottle with me, I was able to pop the next one in to be ready when needed. This works equally well as cold water or microwave steriliser. This is going to make life easier at the wedding too, especially having the cold water option if we don't have convenient access to a microwave.
I took the filled steriliser out with me, deliberately upside down, and can confirm it didn't leak, although it was heavy when filled so I wouldn't use it for carrying about all day if avoidable.
I carry the wipes in my changing bag for use when wiping down tables/high chairs in cafes/restaurants.

Q2 How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
The concept is very easy, add tablet, add water, add bottle, wait. However, I noticed a discrepancy between the instructions on side of box (put quarter of a tablet in) and on the instruction leaflet (put whole tablet in) I realised the instruction leaflet was referring to the mini tablets, and the box the standard ones, but this wasn't especially clear and could lead to too strong solution being used.
I did find it difficult to get the bottle in without displacing water, something that has to be done over the sink.

Using as microwave steriliser v straightforward.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

Yes to both. I probably wouldn't have bought the steriliser before trying it, but now I have I'd buy again.
If probably just buy any old anti bac wipes depending on price, that would include the Milton ones if competitively priced.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
Yes to the steriliser if said friend was having long day trips or overnight trips. But not just generally.
I probably wouldn't specifically recommend the Milton wipes, but would recommend carrying antibac wipes on changing bag.

The steriliser arrived Saturday morning just as we were heading away to family for the weekend so unpacked it and took it with us. It was great to travel with as I usually take a large microwave steriliser and that can be bulky with two children and a dog in the car so even before use I was impressed. We use prescription formulae made with cold water so I sterilised each bottle after feeding and then put it together ready for filling. Having the solution available all day made dummies and teethers easy to clean through the day. I took wipes out with me and used them on the cafe table as we're baby led weaning and so food touches all surfaces!

All in all I impressed and would buy one and recommend it to friends.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
We used the Travel Sterilizer on a day out to the farm. We used the wipes at the swimming pool (changing table) and in the car and also at the farm.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
The video is excellent and the instructions are clear. Both products are easy to use, very easy. A leap of faith initially (with the cold water) because we have never sterilized bottles this way before. However my son took his milk as normal & had no issues or stomach bugs after so it must have worked ok Smile
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
Yes I would buy the travel steriliser but not the wipes. I use dettol surface cleanser to clean my surfaces and wipes and I felt that the Milton wipes smelled of v strong alcohol which was off putting. Dettol doesn't smell like that and for this reason I would stick with them instead.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
Id recommend the steriliser but not the wipes.

Q1: I used the steriliser when visiting my parents- in the microwave while at the house and with the tablets when out for the afternoon.
Q2: I thought both the steriliser and wipes were easy to use- the only thing I had difficulty with was getting the lid on the steriliser with all the bits of the bottle inside, but with some rearranging of the bottle parts it went on fine. The instructions were very easy to follow. It was much easier using the Milton tablets than a brand I have used before, as you don't need to rinse the solution off the bottles before you use them with Milton, whereas with others I have used you do and it is a huge faff. The sterilising pot is big enough to hold the larger tommee tippee bottles, however this made it too big for my changing bag and so I had to carry it in a separate bag (I think it would be fine if I had a decent sized changing bag though).
Q3: I would buy both products again- the wipes are great for giving dummies and surfaces a quick wipe when out and about so they have been really useful, and although I found the sterilising pot a bit bulky to carry about, it offered an easy way to sterilise when out by using the cold water method.
Q4: I would recommend both products to friends.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
We've used the steriliser at home in the microwave and at a restaurant with the tablets. We had to fill it up in the loo but it was a pretty no-fuss process. The surface wipes have come in handy on transportation, i.e. the tube and buses.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were quite easy to use. A few niggles with the instructions. The instructions on the sheet say to allow the sterilizer tab to dissolve completely before adding the bottle bits and to let it sit for 30 mins, the instructions on the box say to put all the bottle bits in the water and then add the sterilizer tab and let sit for 15 mins With something as absolute as sterilization I would prefer consistent instructions.
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
Yes to both. Will be taking them with me on our upcoming lang haul flight with pleasure.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
Yes I would. I like the versatility of the sterilizer and the wipes are just a handy thing to have in the nappy bag.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I used the steriliser a lot when I went on day trips with my children and also when going around their grandparents (so much easier to carry around than a big steriliser). And the wipes were very handy for cleaning up after messy children (I hate leaving places in a mess).

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

They were both very easy to use and I loved that the steriliser can be used with cold water or in the microwave- it was so simple to sterilise bottles on the go, instructions were brilliant.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

Yes I would buy the products again if the price was reasonable as I really like them.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

I actually have already recommended these products to a group of friends (a baby group on Facebook) as I liked how convenient these products are.
