Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).

  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.

  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

  1. Clear, easy, helpful
  2. Easy to use, ability to set reminders
  3. It wasn't able to recommend unless I entered a date of birth. I didn't know some friends' Year of birth, so had to guess.
  4. Erm, I could live without the whole thing - it's not that indispensable Grin
  5. Yes, but I wouldn't want it to become too cluttered and end up like Pinterest. Having to scroll through pages and pages overwhelms me and I walk away.
  6. Yes, but I'd price-check first.
  7. 8 - I think it's quite useful.
  8. I'd love it to have the facility to record what gifts you've purchased for indivuals, so you can avoid buying mugs or socks year after year.

Q1. Handy and nice ideas
Q2. Some really nice, non gender-stereotyped products came up on the suggestions
Q3.Not sure. I didn't play with all the options but a total budget might come in handy for Christmas?
Q4 The ability to build lists - without that I would lose ideas before I had time to do something with them.
Q5. in theory, yes - in practice I don't have time
Q6. Honestly? I would check and see if I could get the same thing more cheaply elsewhere first, but if not, then if the idea had come from Gift Wink I would be happy to order through them.
Q7 7 or 8, if it were to arise.
Q8. I think you are on to something. There is a lack of good recommendation sites - wicked uncle is the only other one I have come across.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Quick and easy
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The simplicity of the site and the selection of gifts offered - there were things that would be perfect gifts. Great ideas!
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
A larger range of ideas (although it's still a very good range)
Q4. What features could you not live without?
The birthday reminders!
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? Yes I'd find that fun.
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

  1. Clear and easy to use.
  2. The ability to set reminders.
  3. Some of the links to recommended gifts don't work, which feels beside the point to be honest.
  4. I don't think there is one particular feature which is indispensible, as there isn't anything that you couldn't get elsewhere on the internet/use a diary for.
  5. Yes, but it runs the risk of becoming a very long list which can be overwhelming, especially if short of time to look/buy.
  6. I would, but I would price check before doing so (so perhaps build it in so that the price offered is the best available, or sign post to where is such as in Miracle on 34th St).
  7. 7/10 as it is useful but it wouldn't appeal to everyone (a lot of the recommendations are quite quirky and niche products, unless that is just what popped up for me!)
  8. it would be good to have a "previously ordered" section so you don't repeat gifts for the same person. As mentioned in my answer to question 6), it would be good to have a price comparison so you know you are getting the best price. Also, it might be useful to have sections for big birthdays, such as 21st, 30th etc, as these are ones I personally struggle to think of "special" gifts for.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Unique, helpful

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The huge choice of gifts for everyone, they have obviously sourced lots of different companies, and the the suggested for each category was spot on!

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Maybe have more cheaper options for gifts, small ones for £5 or so as I like to buy lots of small things at christmas/birthdays for nieces and my dc's.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The categories are fab and make browsing so much easier, its nice to be able to distinguish between girls pressies and boys as that speeds up shopping time. I like how it displays the age as sometimes I forget so when buying can have a reminder.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes, that would a good thing as when I spot something on a site/online shop I would be good to be able to save it to Gift Wink and hopefully purchase from them.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes I would as the retailers are ones I use already so shopping all in one place would be brill.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
10 definitely as they are quirky and original and so many friends moan about forgetting birthdays.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
Hopefully at some stage you will offer discounts or even a loyalty scheme which would incentivise me to buy from you and not direct with the individual merchants.

Just finished having a mess around on the site so I thought I’d give my feedback.

Q1. Bright and friendly.
Q2. It has a good range of suggested gifts and it is appealing to the eye.
Q3. I think that some of the gift suggestions are unnecessarily gendered, things like whiskey glasses are only on the mens birthday suggestions. I would also like to be able to add someone’s birthday on without included the year (after a certain point, age doesn’t really matter.)
Q4. I liked being able to create a wish list, and having gift suggestions tailored to ages and interests.
Q5. Yes I think it would be good to have the sort of option that Amazon wish list has, where if it isn’t available via Giftwink you can provide a link to it.
Q6. Maybe a 5/6? It depends on how forgetful the family member is.
Q7. I really liked the layout and design, it was very clear how to use the website. I think I’d be more likely to use it for people I wasn’t as close to such and distant family or friends and their kids. But it is also good for providing inspiration for people who are hard to buy for, such as my DH!

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Not really no

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
I don't think so, I like a bargain and don't trust a website to find me one without doing my research first so I would use it for ideas then search out something similar/cheaper myself

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
A good idea

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
I like the gift ideas, I'd happily buy all the women's ones for myself (if I had any money)!

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Maybe some cheaper/smaller gift ideas too. The page where you fill in the birthday details is a bit weird - I couldn't see what it was asking me in the box that starts 'what..' Maybe I was just being a bit dim and there was a way of expanding it but I couldn't do it. I can see that the designer has tried to fit lots across the page but I'm not sure it works.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
Ermm, I've made it to 38 without the existence of Gift Wink so I can probably keep on going thanks Hmm

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes. If I could use it a bit like pinterest and add gift ideas as I saw them through the year it would save me hours of trying to remember where I saw that really great idea I had a few months ago.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Probably, if there was a suggestion that I liked, although I am a bit of an arch bargain hunter so I might have a look and see if I could get it somewhere else a bit cheaper Blush

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
8 I would recommend but it would feel a bit like admitting I'm crap at presents and can't remember when their birthdays are.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I think I've covered most things above. I do like the gift suggestions - they're a bit like things I'd think of only slightly cooler/nicer!

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words? Fresh, Considered

What do you like most about Gift Wink? It was easy to navigate, I signed up quickly without problems, the prompts were helpful.

If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be? That there are male gift ideas, there the ones I usually come unstuck with for birthdays and Christmas gifts.

What features could you not live without? I'd want software to be reliable so that reminders were timely.

Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? possibly but it would have to be smart and quick, maybe via some kind of Pin It link

Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? I already have! Within a few minutes of signing up and browsing the board I found just the gift for my daughter and ordered it, the delivery came today. Wonderful service.

On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? 10

Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? I'd like to utilise Gift Wink, it would make my life easier but I'd need to be confident that others were doing all the research on my behalf and offering me new ideas that aren't dated. More male options are a must, also for the older generations - grandparents, great-grandparents, making a feature of personalised upmarket and contemporary products would attract me too.

Q1. Easy to use, helpful.
Q2. Good range of suggestions for the different ages, celebrations etc.
Q3. More bargains featured on the site, some of the suggestions were from the more expensive stores when I know you could get them cheaper than featured.
Q4. The age ranges for children were helpful.
Q5. Perhaps but i wouldn't like it to be too cluttered/overwhelming.
Q6. No probably not. While I think it is helpful for suggestions, and as a starting point, I would still end up doing more research and looking at other sites for better prices. If they were the best prices for the products, then I would shop via the site.
Q7. 6
Q8. As I have said I think better suggestions need to be on site to help people get the best deal. Or perhaps factor in budget, that would be good near Christmas. It's a bit of a novelty site. Good for suggestions but I wouldn't do all my shopping on there.

Q2. The fact that it send you birthday reminders and ideas for gifts based on the recipiants age, sex, likes and interests.
Q3. I would change the name as it isn't so memorable and doesn't really say what the site is about.
Q4. The reminders as I have a large family and sometimes I forget until the last minute then panic!
Q5. I would post up my own gift ideas when I have spare time on my hands.
Q6. I would buy a gift from Gift Wink if I liked the gift and knew it couldn't be bought cheaper elsewhere. Whenever I am buying any sort of gift or household item, I always serch for the best deals before purchasing! I am very money savvy!
Q7 I would give Gift Wink 10/10 and recommend it to a friend or family member because I think the reminder service in itself is very useful to anybody with lots of birthdays to remember. The gift ideas are an added bonus!
Q8. It is a unique idea and should be advertised more on family sites like this. I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been a Mumsnet member. I look forward to receiving my first birthday reminder along with their gift ideas.

  1. Simple, unique

  1. Easy to navigate through the site. Setting birthdays a very good idea. Age specific toys also useful (especially for older children in my case!!)

  1. It seemed very child and female specific. Gifts for men or older people might be more useful too.

  1. Strange question? I suppose the idea is not to miss a birthday so as long as that worked?

  1. Not really. It would make it very Pinterest like.

  1. Yes. I've set up birthday reminders for my nieces and nephews so hopefully I can get something for them!!

  1. 9. It's easy to use and a good idea!

  1. I think expanding the gift range for the older generation, men would be really useful. I'm not close to any birthdays yet, but I hope it works!!

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

I tried a few people's birthdays and entered my incorrectly. You aren't able to edit or delete people which is annoying. Also the suggestions do need to try and take into account age ranges for older people better. It seems to work well for kids but men or women appear to be treated the same whatever age they are. I have my brother in there and my dad and the same presents aren't going to work! Maybe tick boxes with preferences like gadgets, food or travel etc for each person?
