This is the feedback thread for Mumsnetters who are testing out nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, with a friend.

Here's what Clairol say: “Find your true colour with nice'n easy. nice'n easy permanent colour cream gives colour so natural looking it's the UK's #1. Colour lasts up to 8 weeks and provides up to 100% grey coverage.
For first time colourers, we recommend nice'n easy no ammonia; a non-permanent hair dye without ammonia, giving you natural & healthy looking colour. It lasts up to 24 shampoos and blends away greys. We're really keen for Mumsnetters and their friends to have a hair colour session and share their feedback”

Testers, once you have tested the hair dye, here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too:

  • What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?
  • Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?
  • Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?
  • How easy did you find the application process and why?
  • How happy were you with the end result and why?
  • Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also share your before & after photos on this thread.

Everyone who gives feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

    Standard Insight T&Cs apply

    Thanks and Good Luck!

Hi, have tried replying to the email I received but the email is undeliverable, so posting here in the hope someone from Mumsnet might reply.

I received my dye and am very excited to try it. However, my mum was my 'dye partner', but has recently had her hair professionally coloured as we applied for the product test quite a while ago. She doesn't want to dye her hair at the moment and I don't know anyone else who would want that colour. I'm happy to return both products if this means I can't take part - please do let me know.

Thanks for choosing me, and for letting me test without my Mum!

What colour was your hair before dying?
Dark brown with wiry grey hairs

did you use nice n easy permanent colour cream, or nice no easy no ammonia, and which shade did you choose?
I used nice n easy no ammonia, in dark warm brown (82)

did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?
I coloured my own hair

how easy did you find the application process and why?
Pretty easy, it only tool about 25 minutes from start to finish. It even smelled nice! I also managed not to give myself brown ears which I always used to do when I last dyed my hair as a teenager.

how happy we're you with the end result and why?
Pretty happy. I wanted to cover my grey hair. I think I should probably have left it in a bit longer. The grey hair has gone a sort of light blondish brown, and looks quite natural.

would you consider using nice n easy again?
Yes, I would. It was quick to apply and not messy, and got rid of my grey hair.

We (me and my sister) did patch tests me for the 24 shampoo her for the permanent sadly she had a reaction so decided against testing instead she just helped me do mine.

What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?
My hair was a mucky blonde/mousey colour due to not being dyed for well over year and half due to having a baby. With maybe some grey (im refusing to admit to the grey) Wink im too young for grey.

-Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?
I used shade 815RR Dark Mahogany the nice'n easy no ammonia

-Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?
I applied the colour myself that way if i dyed my ears Grin i would only have myself to blame.

-How easy did you find the application process and why?
It was easy to mix the product the instructions were straight forward, it was easy to apply a little messy but using wet wipes straight away removed the drips

-How happy were you with the end result and why?
It covered my hair really well, i like the end result i feel better for colouring my hair. It isnt patchy it took fab all over and my hair looks great, the conditioner made it feel amazing. I love the colour! No more frumpy hair. And no more greys.......

-Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not
I would definitely use it again, it doesnt smell offensive like some do, there was lots of product to colour my hair with plenty leftover so would do longer hair than mine. And i didnt dye my ears!! The bathroom isnt stained with it either.

  • What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?

Mine was a faded red colour (live dye) and friends was a mousy brown colour

  • Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?

I used the cream natural black and friend used the warm brown no ammonia

  • Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?

We enjoyed an hour peace and quiet and took turns! Any excuse for a gossip and a glass of wine ;0)

  • How easy did you find the application process and why?

Very easy. Gloves abit of a pain but we applied cream to our hair line first and had wet wipes at the ready to get rid of any smudges!

  • How happy were you with the end result and why?

End results were fab. All over colour brilliant and not patchy at all (both have short hair)
Smell on both products was pleasant and hair felt amazing afterwards with a great shine!!!

  • Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes definitely. I dye my hair every 8 weeks anyway but friend was really pleased with her colour !

What colour was your hair before dying?

Medium / dark brown.

And what colour was your friend’s hair?

my friends medium brown with lighter highlights.

-Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?

Both permanent
Me -natural dark brown
Friend - natural medium reddish brown

-Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?

We coloured our own hair. We always do so best way to compare.

-How easy did you find the application process and why?

Very simple and easy to do just mixing the activator and colour. Loved that the gloves came separate to the instructions.. that is one of my pet hates for home dying kits.

-How happy were you with the end result and why?

Loved the colours and even more loved how glossy it made our hair. Both gave a tonal look as if we had been to the hairdressers. Very impressed.

I have tried the conditioner a few times since and my hair still looks as fab and shiny. Like that the conditioner can be purchased separately too.

-Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I definitely would as it gives that boost to my natural hair colour.

My friend is unsure as she likes to have a more tonal look to her hair colour and isn't sure.

-What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?

Mine was brown with the remnants of a red hair dye and my mums who did the test with me was brown with grey.

-Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?

We both chose the permanent natural medium brown.

-Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?

We coloured each other's, I find it difficult to do my own.

-How easy did you find the application process and why?

Very very easy, just mix and go!

-How happy were you with the end result and why?

We were both very happy. My mums went a little more paler on the greys so it looked more highlighted, not sure if that would have changed had we left it on longer mine seemed darker than i was expecting but still lovely.

-Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not

Yes it was easy to do, a good colour and not as offensive smelling as hair dyes I've used in the past.

Mum wouldn't let me take her photo and I forgot to do a before but here is the colour afterwards.

-How easy did you find the application process and why? Really easy. You just mix it up, slap it of any you're away. I was really pleased about the gloves .They were great.
-How happy were you with the end result and why? Really happy. It looks healthy and shiny and most importantly it isn't patchy!
-Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes. It didn't feel like it had ruined my hair, which some dyes do, it was easy to apply and it smelt nice.

I haven't put photos on as due to personal circumstances recently don't want to be recognised.

-What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?
Mine is dark brown. My sister was unable to complete the test because it was delayed, sorry!

-Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?
Nice'n easy no ammonia in Dark Warm Brown 82

-Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?
My own

-How easy did you find the application process and why?
It was easy, the clear instructions were good and the consistency of the colour once it is mixed ensures it doesn't run too much. I needed 2 boxes though as my hair is way longer than I realised! (2 babies in 2 years means I have seriously neglected myself!)

-How happy were you with the end result and why?
Very happy, there is only a small difference in terms of the colour which is what I wanted. It is more even and in the light has more red tones than before but it is subtle, which I really like. My hair feels soft too.

-Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I definitely would, the colour is nice and rich, my hair feels soft and good and hopefully it lasts!

What colour was your hair before dying? And what colour was your friend’s hair?
My hair was a dark red with some lovely grey roots. Hmm My mum used the other one and her's was was light brown also with grey roots. Grin

Did you use nice'n easy permanent colour cream or nice'n easy no ammonia, and which shade did you/your friend choose?
We used the no ammonia colour. I chose mahogany, and my mum chose light golden brown.

Did you each colour your own hair or did you do it for each other?
We both did our own hair.

How easy did you find the application process and why?
Application was fairly easy. But pretty much the same as most other home hair dyes that I use. I colour my hair that much I could probably do it in my sleep TBH. Hmm

How happy were you with the end result and why?
I was happy with the end result, it covered my grey roots really well. Unlike a lot of other home hair dyes that tend to leave grey patches even after leaving the dye on for over an hour.

Would you consider using nice’n easy hair colour again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would use it again as long it wasn't too expensive. I usually have to colour my hair once every 2 weeks because my roots show through really quickly with most other hair dyes. So I will wait and see how long the Nice and Easy colour lasts.

My friend used 9.5 (she is a blonde)
I used 79 (am dark)

We are both frequent salon dyers. I aim for every eight/ ten weeks and she is six weeks roughly.

We both used the permanent.

She coloured mine as I have problems raising my arms up (hence going to a salon) but she did her own.

The instructions were really simple and the gloves were decent which is a bug bare of mine! They also weren't made for a doll :) everything was easy to follow and I felt confident using the product. She is a more regular dyer and liked the product.

The end result-
Me- I was really happy. I spend £100 a go at the hairdressers as I have really thick hair and grey pubes at the front :(
All gone :) I would probably buy more than one box next time but the savings are huge! I was really pleased and shocked.

My friend- she loved it to. Getting blonde 'right' is difficult and yet it looked like a salon job. We were both really pleased.

We both liked the fact we could maintain it too with products that are easy to buy not pushed on us at the salon at major cost. Makes everything accessible.

We will both be using Again :)
