This is the feedback thread for the MNers who - along with their baby aged up to 6 months who are trying WaterWipes.

Here's what WaterWipes says: "Every time we change our baby's nappies, or use a wipe on their messy face or hands, we can be (without realising it) swabbing their sensitive, delicate, and highly absorbent skin with chemicals. Even when we reach for wipes labelled as "natural" or "sensitive", we do not realize how many ingredients and chemicals they actually contain, as we seldom scrutinise the ingredient list. WaterWipes contain only 2 ingredients: 99.9% Water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. Non-irritating to even the most sensitive of children’s or Mums’ skin, WaterWipes help prevent and alleviate nappy rash and other sensitive skin conditions. WaterWipes are the only baby wipe ever to be endorsed by Allergy UK."

More info on WaterWipes here waterwipes.com

Below are the questions they’d like testers to answer but please feel free to add any other comments which you may have:

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Please also remember to complete the short survey we email you!

All who take part and who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable? - Yes they were much kinder to my toddler's skin and quite moist and soft so were easier to use on his skin.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes? - Yes, these are as natural as you can get so will be my preferred choice in future.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation? - Yes you can carry round to use on almost anything, I will use them at home to wipe stains or use on my 6 year old when she gets messy :)

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not? - Yes most definatley, they are soft and durable and much kinder to the skin then most leading brands.

Thanks Gemma

  1. Yes i used it for messy hands and faces and thats when i saw just how durable they were, they did not rip they kept the moisture

  1. indeed i will be recommending these wipes, the durability the naturalness of them and the softness

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

I usually use Waitrose own baby wipes; while I like the WaterWipes, they're not better than the Waitrose ones in terms of thickness, strength, softness etc. Well perhaps a little thicker, but not by much.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Yes - this is where the WaterWipes win for me! I love the fact that they're just completely natural; one of my 7 month old twin boys has extremely sensitive skin with bad eczema caused by milk allergy, and I'm very wary of putting anything chemical on his skin.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

Oh yes - I've used them for lots of things apart from nappy changes! I use them for cleaning my twins' hands & faces during feeding (we're weaning: it's messy!!), as well as their toys and surfaces around them during feeding time (all seems to get covered in puree, for some reason!). Also I use them for my 8 year old daughter, who also has very sensitive skin, as a general 'clean up' (eg after icecream!) when we're out and about.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Hmm That's tricky. Yes I would, for their 'naturalness' ... but they are horribly expensive. If they were less so then I'd recommend them without hesitation, but as it is, I'm not sure. We use baby wipes around the house generally (not just for the twins), and while I've replaced any that go near my twins with WaterWipes, the rest of the house ones I haven't, purely because of the cost.

Q1. I liked using the water wipes. I mostly used them on nappy changes and found they did the job perfectly. I thought they were particularly thick and large which I liked.

Q2. Yes lots of baby wipes advertise as being suitable for newborn skin but when you look at the ingredients list contain so many chemicals, so I held off using them for the first few weeks.

Q3. I used them for wiping make up off my face and was pleased they didn't leave a tight feeling like some baby wipes do. However, due to the price of the product I wasn't as liberal in using then for wiping hands / surfaces as I am with cheap baby wipes.

Q4. Yes I would recommend them for newborns or babies with sensitive skin. However due to the price I couldn't imagine using them long term. Have already recommended to a friend due in December.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?
The wipes were a great thickness and nice and soft. They were the right level of dampness too (some wipes are too wet or dry). They were very strong and felt like a premium brand. They coped well with newborn poosplosions and toddler bums.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?
Yes. Even unfragranced can contain a fragrance if it's used to mask another one which is quite surprising. Also having long chemical names that I can't pronounce let alone recognise as an ingredient is off putting.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?
Definitely suitable for other uses too. I even used as a flannel whilst bathing the boys on a camping trip.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes I'd recommend and buy them myself depending on price. With two children in nappies we get through a lot of wipes so cost is quite a big factor in what wipes we buy.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

The WaterWipes are much thicker than other wipes, more durable so they don't break and you actually don't need as much because of this, a packet lasts a lot longer than other brands. Wipes are incredibly soft too.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

I've only used natural and organic brands so have always been aware of what is in the product I use on my family. As the WaterWipes are so pure and only have two ingredients I would not hesitate using this on a newborn or child with incredibly sensitive skin. This is also great for cleaning little faces and hands too, no chance of baby eating the chemical residue left on hands by other wipes.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

Yes, this worked well for cleaning little hands, faces. No chance of baby eating the chemical residue left by other wipes. Fantastic on sensitive skin for face, have used to clean food off baby's face. Also tried removing makeup on myself (I have incredibly sensitive skin and it did not irritate at all)

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend. Suitable from birth so easier to clean up meconium, great for anyone looking for a high quality baby wipe without all the nasty chemicals. I cannot fault this product at all.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

They are good and thick, but i wouldn't say they are much softer

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Not really, I tend to want something effective cleaning poo explosions, didn't think of ingredients.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

yes, i used them on the toddler as well to wipe her face after ice cream

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

yes, albeit with the caveat they are a bit pricey for what they are, if they were cheaper i would consider changing my normal brand, but not at this price

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?
Straight away we noticed they were bigger and thicker than our normal wipes.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?
Not really. I'm aware of chemicals used in other wipes. I was intrigued as to wether the water wipes would leave a clean feeling.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?
I have used them for face wiping although would use normal wipes for this anyway.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?
We really liked the water wipes. I think I associate the smell of normal wipes with being clean and do worry that just water isn't enough to get rid of the smell from a dirty bum. I loved the thickness and size of the water wipes though and the fact the were moist and we did use less than normal wipes per application . My main issue with water wipes is the cost. 4 packs for £9 in boots but in my busy household I can go through 6 packs a week. I would recommend water wipes for newborns though or sensitive skin.

I've just seen that they're £2.99 for 60!

Based on that I'd only recommend to a friend if their baby had very sensitive skin and only then for when out and about. Given how cheap and pure cotton wool and water is, I couldn't justify this cost and would buy something like cheeky wipes as and alternative.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?
I would describe the wipes as softer and thicker than ordinary wipes. They are very easy to use and are fragrance free which I like, most other wipes have a fragrance.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes? Yes definitely, my daughter has exma and her skin will flare up if I use any other wipes.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation? Most definitely, I use them for everything, nappy changing, face wiping, hands wiping and also on myself to freshen up. They are perfect for my daughter who has sensitive skin, I won't use any other wipes on her face as they cause her exma to flare up. I have used Water Wipes since my daughter was a newborn as I didn't want her skin exposed to chemicals that are found in other wipes.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not? Yes definitely, I won't use anything else. Great for newborns and babies with sensitive skin. I love Water Wipes and would not recommend any other wipe.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?
Yes they seemed thicker and wetter than usual wet wipes. They were also soft and strong. I liked the feel of them.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?
Yes definitely. My son has severe eczema and I had no hesitation in using these-even on his face-whereas I'm usually cautious about using things on him, especially as normal wipes tend to leave a residue or fragrance.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?
Yes, I'm currently introducing some solids and they have come in very useful. I have no hesitation using them on his face or cleaning up dribble. As they are stronger than usual wipes, I've also used them to mop up spills, bits of food etc

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes definitely. My only concerns would be a) price. The amount of wipes we get through I think they are a little more expensive. b) related to price, when you pull one out you tend to get a handful so get through them quickly. Having saidt hat they are a great product.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

They were definitely thicker, and they seemed a lot wetter than other wipes. They worked fine and did the job, although I found no real difference between them and other wipes I've used.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

I had come across Water Wipes before so was aware already. They are a good replacement for the faff of cotton wool and water in the early days.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

They would certainly be useful but, other in the very early weeks, I wouldn't choose to use them as they are much more expensive than the wipes I usually use (Aldi) which I am satisfied with.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them as an easier option in the first few weeks with a newborn but beyond that I wouldn't recommend on a cost basis.

1)
I found that they were very soft on my 16 week olds skin, however I felt they left her skin too wet afterwards. Saying that there was no irritation caused. Sometimes it was tricky getting them out of the packet one at a time.

2)
Yes it did, I am.very impressed by how well they worked having just the natural ingredients in. Loved knowing I wasnt putting any chemicals on my baby's skin

3)
I used them for wiping her very dribbly chin - teething. I felt that while it did wipe away the drool it did still leave her chin wet. But again no irritation so fab. I used then myself as a make up remover - great on skin but not great at removing mascara

4)
I would recommend the wipes themselves yes. However I cannot justify buying these wipes over my usual wipes due to the price when my usual ones work just as well & are pure and sensitive.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

They were great to use, definitely felt thicker than other wipes and less breakable

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Yes I was aware of chemicals in other wipes which was why I wanted to try the natural version.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

I would prefer to use them just for nappy changes and use flannel type re-usable wipes for faces and hands as it is more economical and environmentally friendly

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes they were very kind to sensitive skin and a very good wipe too.

  1. Certainly prefer the ingredients of these to all the chemicals in others, I usually use washable wipes and water at home and wipes when put and about to minimise chemical usage. Also note no irritated skin/nappy rash when using water only or the water wipes - could be coincidence though!

  1. Yes would use for anything else I might use wipe for eg face wipe

Q1. The are a strong 'wet' wet wipe. Have found that it is often possible to just use one wipe for a dirty nappy rather than 3-4 with other brands. I also like that they don't have a residue like other wipes.

Q2. Completely. The wipes we first bought when baby was a newborn were horrible - couldn't even get through the whole box so I still have two packs at the back of the cupboard. Wish I knew about water wipes then.

Q3. Yes but I intend to use reusable microfibre wipes for weaning just because of cost. Out and about WW without doubt.

Q4. Yes I would recommend then to any new mummy. I was pleased to discover you can get a travel pack of ten wipes on ocado but unfortunately they have not been in stock yet for me to order.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

We found the WaterWipes excellent; they did a really good job. I would definitely say that they were thicker, softer and more durable. I probably wouldn’t say they were stronger than the Pampers ones we usually use. However, they were really smooth and we definitely got more ‘wipes’ per wipe (if that makes sense!). They were also really wet, which we liked as it meant we were confident that DS was fully clean – and probably more so than using other brands.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Absolutely. The amount of chemicals in things is a big concern for me and we specifically chose nappies which contained fewer chemicals in them too and natural baby skincare products. After reading online that there were some cheaper copycats of WaterWipes in the supermarkets, I checked them out – only to find that they still contained loads of chemicals! I think it’s really misleading that other wipes use phrases such as ‘pure’ or ‘natural’ when they contain loads of chemicals, and I’d definitely recommend to people that if you care about not using chemical-heavy products to always check the label.

We also had zero nappy rash when using the WaterWipes, and no redness whatsoever!

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

Yep. We used them for general baby wiping too – hands, face and neck! We’ve now said that we’ll be using these when weaning for mouth/face wiping as other baby wipes can be quite an overpowering fragrance, and cause irritation. If we wouldn’t like our mouths wiped with a fragranced and stick baby wipe, why would our baby?!

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. If you can afford them, I would say buy these without a doubt. The only issue for me is price – they’re about five times as much as our regular wipes (although the packet did last longer). We will be buying again for weaning though.

Thank you very much for sending these and bringing them to our attention! I wouldn’t have tried them otherwise, and they genuinely bring some peace of mind about using wipes when weaning.

  1. How did you find using water wipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you have used in the past? Would you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer and more durable?

I am honesty amazed with these wipes. I has not heard of them prior to seeing the product test thread. Ds has allergies and eczema, I don't know if it's related but he has always had a very sore bum. When he does a poo, the clean up often leads to his bum having little bleedings spots and it has always been red. I have tried multiple different brands and wipes. We most recently used pampers new baby sensitive but when there has been a poonami these also can cause him bum to bleed most times. From the first poo I used these wipes for there was absolutely no bleeding what so ever and I noticed from the first use the redness improved. After using the pack, the redness is almost completely gone and we have had no more bleeding at all. After using them a couple of times I went out and brought more. They didn't feel as scratchy as other wipes and when you pull one out the pack mid change, one comes out! The other wipes I have used, if you try and pull one out you pull half the pack out. They also seemed a lot stronger than other wipes.

Did learning that water wipes have only 2 ingredients make you think about what is in other normal baby wipes?

Yes, it may sound silly but when using all these wipes I never even considered what was in them, and seeing the difference it has made with ds' sore bum it has made me wonder what they put in them.

Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses, aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages?

I used them to clean ds hands and face after eating. I found with my other wipes, it can often take a few wipes to get everything off, with water wipes one was sufficient to clean him up.

Would you reccomend water wipes to other mums/parents?

Definately! I already have, although some have been put off slightly by the price (£2.99 when most packs are 90p in the shops). The difference it has made to ds bum is worth the price though.

Q1. How did you find using WaterWipes? Did you notice a difference between them and ordinary wipes you may have used in the past? Were you describe them as being thicker, stronger, softer, more durable?

I did notice a different between the usual brands of wipes i use, they were not so much thicker but far stronger they didnt break when removing from the pack or during use. They were soft and wetter than most wipes meaning they cleaned well and without too much effort, i did have to dry my daughters bum a couple of times after use. They are definitely more durable and i enjoyed using them rather than my usual brand.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

I liked the fact that the wipes had only two ingredients when i read the packets of my usual brands its quite scary how many chemicals and long names there are in them makes me not want to use them in future. I'd never really thought about it before i used unfragranced sensitive wipes but they have a long list of chemicals in them too.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

I did use them for wiping faces currently in the midst of a heatwave and these waterwipes are perfect for wiping hot sweaty little faces and sticky ice lolly coated hands, they dont leave a residue like some other brands can

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Q1. They were very wet, quite often we had to wring them out before using them. They were thick and strong but because of the wetness issue, they clumped together in the packet and we ended up pulling out more than one at a time which was annoying.

Q2. I have always known that normal wipes have lots of ingredients, that is why I use cotton wool and water on my babies and save the wipes until they are older. Midwives say not to use wipes on newborns because of this and I think the information is widely available.

Q3. My daughter is very dribbly at the moment and gets through multiple dribble bibs each day. I used the wipes (after wringing out first) to wipe her face after mopping up the dribble with the bib.

Q4. I wouldn't recommend them purely down to the price. We use cotton wool and water, I get a bag of cotton wool from Sainsbury's for 55p and don't need much water each time so it isn't making much difference to my water bill. Reusable wipes also work well without the chemical worry.

I have been really impressed by them. We usually use Pampers Sensitive which are the only ones that don't aggravate any of my kids' skin. These were definitely thicker and stronger which meant I only really ever need to use one instead of 3 or 4 as I usually do. They seem soft on the skin and actually work.

Q2. Did learning that WaterWipes had only 2 ingredients, (99.9% Water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract), make you think about what was in other normal baby wipes?

Only because they actually worked! Any other more natural or water wipes I have tried before just haven't been effective and I end up scrubbing the poor child too hard to get the mess off! Slightly counterproductive. These worked very very well without any hassle or extra pressure.

Q3. Did you think the product might be suitable for other uses aside from nappy changing, like face wiping or hand wiping in the teething/dribbling or weaning stages when little faces needs wiping but putting wipes with chemicals on baby’s face might cause some irritation?

Absolutely. The poor baby is suffering so badly with his teeth at the moment so dribble is a constant irritation to his chin. I used the wipes for that, for weaning mess and for his hands. All great. My hands also didn't suffer like they usually do.

Q4. Would you recommend WaterWipes to other Mums/ parents? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely 100%
