AngelieMumsnet · 22/08/2014 14:00

This thread is for the 50 Mumsnetters recruited to try out the ovulation test from Clearblue.

Here’s what ClearBlue say "Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator is breakthrough product because it tracks both luteinising hormone and estrogen it is the only Ovulation test that typically identifies 4 or more Fertile days, that’s more than any other Ovulation test. This means you have more advanced notice of when your body is preparing for ovulation than any other test."

All testers are currently trying to conceive and selected testers have been sent a Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit - RRP £29.99.

We are asking for feedback across a three month period. We have added some questions below on first impressions: please answer them as soon as you can after receiving the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit. We will add some more questions across the next three months.

All testers who try the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit and leaves their feedback as requested will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

First impressions
How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
What was the packaging like?
How quickly did you get started with it?
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
Any other comments on first impressions?

As a wrap up please could all testers let Clearblue know their responses to the following questions:

  1. Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

and finally any last comments on this product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Clearblue on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks and good luck (with everything!)

I received mine today. I'm 11 days into my cycle and was meant to start the previous day so decided to start now as I'm only a day over.

This is my fourth month ttc four our first baby. I'm 28 and have had problems with my periods for years (not regular, painful, generally odd) and decided it would be a good idea to understand if I am actually ovulating, as I suspect I'm not. I came off a nine month course of dianette tablets on April 1, which were meant to sort out my irregularity but don't seem to have done much. Periods returned straight away so no problem there.

The tests all seem pretty straight forward and the instructions clear. I've never tried anything else to track my fertility so this will be an interesting journey.

Today I registered as low fertility.

Good luck to everyone and a big congrats to Incacola!

Probably shouldn't be posting here as I am not part of the trial, however I am ttc and bought this product last month. It was only cycle 1 after stopping the pill, but I had 9 days of flashing smileys before I gave up. Googling shows that this happens to others too. Apparently once you get your flashing smiley this will continue each day until you get your fixed (peak) smiley - even if you test with tap water.

This would not actually put me off using this product, it is just something to be aware of - 1 month supply (10 sticks) would not be enough if you have an irregular cycle or like me are getting to know your cycle.

Personally, this cycle I am using ic tests then once I see something on these I will start using the clearblue again. This way I should have less wastage of test sticks.

Back to the original questions, when I opened the packaging it looked sturdy enough and it was easy to use.

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.

I am 29, this is going to be out 2nd baby and we have been trying ttc for now 16 months.

Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.

This time, we haven't had any other products, but I was taking clomid when trying for dd1

On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?

I was surprised that it was a 3months supply, considering each month only has 10sticks in the box. But I should wait and see Grin

Dh thought they were pregnancy test Grin

What was the packaging like?

Packaging was ok, nothing much to say about it.

How quickly did you get started with it?

I received the pack yesterday and coincidently according to the leaflet I was to start testing this morning, which was handy.

How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?

The instructions on how to use the sticks were clear, however I did have to read the leaflet twice to know when to start using the tests.

I received my pack yesterday. I'm 41 and ttc baby no2, we've been trying for 5+yrs.
I've half heatedly tried cheap opk before and a fertility tracker phone app.

I wondered what the postie was handing me, I thought it was an Ebay buy I'd forgotten about! The packaging was sturdy, colourful.

I'm on CD24 so unless I get a bfp this month I'll start next cycle, the instructions look straightforward enough and I also looked at the clear blue videos on youtube.

I've been ttc baby number 1 for 2 years. I have had 3 miscarriages in this time. I have used clear blue advanced digital before as well as the normal digital ones and internet cheapies. I reverted to the digitals as the internet cheapies are so unreliable and difficult to read.
The packaging is quite nice and would stand out on a supermarket or chemist shelf. The individual sticks are sealed well in secure packaging.
I am cycle day 8 today so will start using them in the next couple of days. I usually ovulate day 17.
The instructions as easy to follow.

This is the 4th month TCC our first child. I'm 32 and came off the pill May.

I haven't tried any other products. I downloaded a couple of apps to my phone but I found them taking over my life so I've stopped using it!

Packaging is clear and plain and the instructions are easy to use. I've had a read tonight & seems straightforward enough.

I'm on CD25 at the moment so it'll be a couple of weeks until I start to use it. My periods came back almost straight away when I stopped the pill and I've had 26-24 day cycles since. I'm not convinced I'm ov'ing though as I've not seen/felt signs on any cycles. I'm taking Boots conception vitamins and EPO (but EPO only for first 10 days)

Hope everyone gets that BFP soon.

Hello everyone!

How exciting that we already have a bfp!

We are trying to conceive our first baby and this is our 6th cycle (2 early miscarriages in there).

My kit has arrived (thank you mumsnet!) - I really like the box, but it hasn't arrived at the right time for me - so I'll have to report back on the instructions in a few weeks!

Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone, a little bit about me: im 29 DH and i are tcc our first child I'm in cycle no. 2 just waiting for AF so hopefully i can get started with the kit soon. I came off the bc pill in June (cerazette) after 2 years on that and 12 years on another. My cycles seem pretty long and irregular so wanted to know more about what's going on and the best time to dtd. I haven't tried any other products but am tracking my bbt.

first impressions: looks complicated and hi tech from the outside and huge box! but once i read the instructions it all seemed pretty clear. I was sent two boxes with enough sticks for three mths so that should keep me going.

all going to plan i should start using it in about 15 days. Will keep u posted!

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.

I'm 36 and we've been ttc baby no 3 for about 4 months. I had a chemical pregnancy in June and we're hoping to get pregnant again soon.

Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.

I used the ic opks in July but found it hard to decide whether they're positive or not. I'm hoping this will take all of the guess work out of it.

Before I knew I was getting this I had actually bought the clearblue advanced fertility monitor which I started about 15 days ago. This morning (because I have a poas addiction) I used them both dipped in fmu and got high fertility on the dual hormone kit and yet another low on the fertility monitor which confused me :-s not sure which one is wrong.

On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?

I liked the look of it although it seems a bit odd to have a holder with each pack. Surely it would be better to have one and replace as necessary?

What was the packaging like?

Packaging was fine, looked good.

How quickly did you get started with it?

I started it on Saturday and got a high today.

How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?

Instructions were easy to follow and very clear. I didn't have any problems with them. Fingers crossed the monitor is wrong and this one is right!

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.
Been TTC our second baby for about 9 months now. Baby no.1 was an accident, so certainly no fertility problems there, so I was expecting no.2 to happen quite quickly too.

Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
Never tried anything

On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
Had absolutely no idea what to expect as have never used, or even looked into these kinds of kits before, but just looks like lots of mini pregnancy tests!

What was the packaging like?
Professional - again, looked like a pregnancy test box

How quickly did you get started with it?
I arrived back from holiday today to find the kit had been delivered. Good timing as will be able to get started in 2 days time.

How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
Being completely new to all this it took me a while to work out what I was actually supposed to do. Given the visual similarity to pregnancy tests, I assumed that I would have to pee on a stick, but before reading the instructions I didn't know whether I would be testing the actual hormone level or the change in hormones, so wasn't sure whether I'd need to first test at the start of the cycle or mid-cycle. I had to read through the instructions a couple of times before it was clear when to start testing.

Been trying to conceive DC1 since June 2014, had early mc July.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
Last month we started using Clearblue Digital OPKs (not the dual hormone ones) and Balance Activ Conceive Fertility Spray. I also keep track of my cycle on the Ovia phone app.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
Looked nice.
What was the packaging like?
Attractive, looks better than most brands. Think this is probably largely due to the silver used on the pack...
How quickly did you get started with it?
I opened it up on Friday - CD1 (when I knew I wasn't pregnant so would be using it), I'll start testing on CD7 (Thursday).
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
They were pretty easy to understand, but think one larger leaflet containing the information from both leaflets would be better.
Any other comments on first impressions?
Like other people I was surprised that you can't buy extra sticks on their own. This would put me off if I was having to buy another holder because I ran out of sticks, particularly if it was just because I had a longer than average cycle - in which case the leaflet recommends you use the original holder with the new sticks.

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.

Been TTC for 2 months now for 3rd child, and just had an early mc last week :(

Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
I've been using online calendars, date calculators and preseed.

On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
Very swish - good quality packaging, very secure, not cheap.

What was the packaging like?
Cardboard, secure, shiny, expensive-looking.

How quickly did you get started with it?
I couldn't wait - straight away! Ha ha! DH says I have a thing about peeing on things - I think he might be right! First day I wasn't fertile, but 2 days later - peak fertility! Happy days!

How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
I did have to properly read it all (which I never really do, but I felt I should, you know, not fuck it up). I think it was pretty self-explanatory though!

Any other comments on first impressions?
It's good timing for me - feels like a lovely safety net after last week's sadness, and if it happened again, I would like the safety of something like this so I know what my body is doing. It's allowing me some control, which I like. And I am very grateful for a 3 month supply (lots of peeing on things to be done, ha ha!) In all seriousness though, I am chuffed. I needed this wee support after having a mc - I have never had any problems getting pg before (I had two very straightforward pg's which am so grateful for) and this last wee while has knocked my confidence completely, so I'm really grateful for this wee bit of control and peace of mind that I AM ovulating etc!

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc
I'm 25 and me and DH are trying for our first baby. I came off the pill (Cerazette) in July but this is our first cycle of properly trying. I'm totally clueless about my cycles after being on the pill for years with no periods and being irregular for years before that, so I'm looking forward to getting an idea about what's going on with my body.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
I use the Ovia app, but that's it so far.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
It looked lovely and technical, I do love a good gadget! DH was more interested than I thought he would be, too... I think the introduction of a gadget appeals to him and he'll probably be the one reminding me to use it.
What was the packaging like?
Reassuringly sturdy. Sadly not waterproof though... see below.
How quickly did you get started with it?
Even though the little chart on the instructions said I was a day late to start testing, I was a stubborn mule and decided to get started right away. I pulled the holder out of the packet very excitedly and promptly dropped it straight down the loo. Obviously nobody else is quite as much of a berk as I am, so it wasn't waterproof... serves me right for trying to use it when I technically wasn't supposed to.
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
I read through them twice to make sure I understood, everything was very clear.
Any other comments on first impressions?
I'll have to wait to start testing until next month now - I learned my lesson about being too eager - so I'll have more impressions of the test actually WORKING then!

Hello!

How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.

I have been trying for 3 months now and hopefully this will be my 3rd. My first two were conceived really easily in my late 20’s, but suspect 38 may be a little harder?

Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.

This is the only product I will have tried.

On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?

Was a bit taken back by the size of the main stick, but then realised the actual pee stick were smaller.

What was the packaging like?

Packaging was ok. Design looks very much like the pregnancy test so strangely a little comforting. I have used Clearblue p test in the past and so it is a name/brand that I am familiar with/trust.

How quickly did you get started with it?

I am waiting to start my menstrual cycle (but hoping to do a preg test if it doesn’t come in the next week!).

How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?

The instructions were simple and easy enough, although I agree with others that I had to read the bit about how to work out your test days twice.

After 5 days of poas every morning, I did get a non flashing smiley face Grin

Now I have a question, does that mean that I can use the holder and remaining 5 sticks next months? Or do I have to bin the lot?

I've FINALLY got a flashing smiley face. I'm on day 16 of a 27 day cycle! God my body is messed up. Had no idea i ovulated so late. Hopefully it won't just go back to the dreaded blank circle tomorrow.

Caillou - i've been wondering this. Will the holder just reset itself do you think? Or does it not need to?

After you've had your static smiley it will stay like that for 2 days on the test holder. If you test again it will show as error. Leave now until your next cycle. The test holder will recognise it's a new cycle if after the 2 days of smiley face and will work for you again. You continue to use the same test holder and the remaining sticks in the box. I've previously used a test holder for months and bought top up sticks off eBay. There's no problem in their continued use.

I received the tests some weeks later with no paperwork and drove myself mad trying to work out who would post me something like that as I knew it wasn't any online order I had made! Is there some paperwork I should have filled in? The top of the thread says about filling in feedback but I don't know what information they want? Does everyone else have this info? I.e. What days to test, whether to take bbt? Thanks.
