We're looking for 250 Mumsnetters to try out the new Kelo-cote silicone gel for c-section scars. Here's what they say: "Kelo-cote gel self-dries to a waterproof membrane that acts like an extra layer of skin. It's the only silicone gel clinically proven to soften, flatten and smooth the scar while maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the adjacent skin."

We're looking for Mumsnetters who have a either c-section scar that is less than 1 year old or a c-section scar that is less than 3 years old and is still troublesome (i.e red, itchy, raised, sore etc), to try this product over the course of three months. You'll be required to add diary style feedback on how your finding the gel during this time. Each tester will be sent a 15g tube of the silicone gel (RRP £29.99). For full ingredients list please see here.

Feedback will concentrate on what the gel feels like, what it's like to apply as well as your overall views of the gel - and any improvements noted to the appearance and feel of the scar. Please note this is in no way a scientific trial - Kelo-cote are just after testers general views and experiences and anecdotal feedback.

Additionally, we may also ask you to complete a (very) short survey at the end of the three month trial - this will focus on whether you'd be happy to recommend the gel to others and overall ratings.

Kelo-cote would also like some testers to take pictures of their scars at the beginning of trail and once a month thereafter (this is not compulsory though!). All testers who supply four pictures at the end of the trail will also receive a £10 John Lewis voucher and a tube of the new stretch mark cream each (RRP £14.99). If you're happy to take pictures, please tick the relevant box in the sign up form. Please note the pictures may be used on marketing material and the Kelo-cote website as before and after pictures. They will be completely anonymous and all recognisable parts will be removed.

Everyone who adds their feedback to the thread on Mumsnet as required will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 John Lewis voucher.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I've used kelocote on my manky arm scar, and it really stopped the itching and softened it (hopeful they'd give me a free tube smile). Alas I still have a stonking great hypertrophic/keloid scar though.

My scar is two years old but still itchy. I also have a 5+ inch scar going down from my stomach from emergency surgery relating to my emcs which is tight and itchy.

I have a c section scar, 18 months old, I'd like to try it out.

Done. I had my second c section nearly 4 months ago. After my first one, I ended up with a keloid, so I'm keen to avoid that this time. My scar is currently itchy on and off, still red, and the general area can be sore if I wear trousers that are too tight. My obstetrician advised me to use a silicone pad, but to be honest I've not got round to finding one of these. This product sounds more convenient to use than a pad, which I would imagine could become annoying.

Fingers crossed I'm chosen! smile

Done. First scar cut out when having second section by arrangements as so manky looking. \second scar not much better - 2 years on is hugely raised and red. Grim.

Five year old section scar that is bumpy, red and horrible. Bio oil didn't help, but I only tried it this year. If you don't get enough applicants can we join in?

My scar is just over 12 months old and is still red and itchy, would love it to go away!

Angelico Mon 19-Nov-12 21:51:18

Signed up although tbh my scar has been admired by every medical peep who has seen it - it's very 'clean' and healed really quickly (the agony was all within...!)

Done.

My scar is 6 months old & still quite itchy, uncomfortable if I'm wearing tight trousers or DD decides to do a bit of Riverdance on my tum. Would be interested in seeing whether anything can make it a bit more comfortable. I haven't been using anything on it so far.

notanotter Mon 19-Nov-12 22:34:44

FairiesWearPoppies Mon 19-Nov-12 22:38:07

I'm amazed that so many of us are having these problems - thought it was just me. I had no problems with first c-section scar, in fact you really couldn't see it at all but second time different story. Would be great it something could make a difference as it makes me feel horrible when it is flaring up.

I've even agreed to take photos just to dare anyone to use them in anything!! And what counts as recognisable and by whom? wink

Thanks everyone for signing up so far. Kelo-cote have been reading your comments and have decided to open the product test up to those with other abdominal scars too. On the sign up form please select "other" to Q6 and tell us a bit about your scar.

We'll be in touch with those selected next week, thanks again thanks

Would it work on other scars?
I have a c section scar still red itchy 18 months, and also have very red wide itchy breast scars from 5 months ago.

Fingers crossed I get picked - my 3rd c-section scar is 2.5 years old. The first one keloided. 2 years later that was cut out to make way for the next. And the same, 2 years after that. This one is weird: it's perfect in one little bit, lumpy and keloided in other bits, mostly red, and it itches all over.

flipandfill Tue 20-Nov-12 15:44:56

Yes please- scar is older than a year - 2 years old- but had an infection and it is raised and can be itchy, skin is hard and lumpy around it
