Hello.

We'd like to invite you to our very first Mumsnet Twitter party, tonight at 8.30pm.

Seeing as it's a Friday night, our theme is wine. Natch.

And our special guest Helen McGinn, author of The Knackered Mother's Wine Club, will be Tweeting some seriously useful wine tips and advice.

All you need to do to party with us is...

* Grab a glass (or bottle!) of your favourite wine

* Turn up on Twitter at 8.30pm and make sure you're following @mumsnettowers (MNHQ) and @knackeredmutha (Helen McGinn)

* Check out the hashtag #knackeredwine - and join in!

Everyone who takes part, using the hashtag #knackeredwine, will be entered into a draw to win a case of wine, courtesy of the Tesco wine community.

If you're not on Twitter, never fear. You can still join in by posting on this thread, too. And we'll have some copies of The Knackered Mother's Wine Club to give away to folks who post here during the Twitter party.

We've also got a special 40% Mumsnet discount on Helen McGinn's book and £10 off a £50 wine shop at Tesco's Wine Community. More details here.

Thank you! Much obliged. smile New wine to try, hurrah!

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:53:49

I'm not sure if they've got one at the mo, but their Taste The Difference Gavi is really good. Tesco Finest Fiano is lovely, too. Happy foraging smile

Kleptronic Fri 22-Mar-13 22:48:36

Hello Helen ah, is it a Chardonnay then, well every day I learn! I might seek out a Fiano, that's a new one on me, will Sainsbos have one?

gazzalw Fri 22-Mar-13 22:46:07

Thanks, Helen

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:41:55

Hello, kleptronic! So, if you like Chablis (which is made from the Chardonnay grape) but want something a bit softer, you could try same grape, warmer country - Australia or Chile produce brilliant Chardonnays. Or, how about trying something like Fiano from Sicily? Let me know where you shop and I can suggest a specific one for you to try, if you like..

Kleptronic Fri 22-Mar-13 22:33:27

I have a question. I know nothing of wine, and haven't seen the twitter party, so apologies if this has been done, or you don't do white. I love a chablis, but after a couple of glasses the minerally-ness really gets to me. I'd have it with fish (clean, crisp, clear, 'hard') but what's a good one to follow up with, please?

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:30:35

Just seem your question gazzalw - depends on mood, food and who's paying! But big soft spot for red Burgundy, aromatic whites from Spain & Italy and - since you ask - good bubbles!

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:27:32

Glad you enjoyed it, thank you smile

currybaby Fri 22-Mar-13 22:23:56

hi helen thanks for the twitter chat it was interesting and looking forward to the book

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:23:39

What was it? Fire away..

gazzalw Fri 22-Mar-13 22:18:19

Hello,Helen, I had a question up thread. Sorry to have been late to the party (blush)

josine32 Fri 22-Mar-13 22:17:59

Well possibly kleptronic but need the loo every 5 minutes! Surprisingly enough it was just my mother's questions which have made my head feel like this. Explaining I am going to a 'baby shower' tomorrow took a bit of a while in Dutch blush

HelenMcGinn Fri 22-Mar-13 22:14:41

Hello! I'm back over here. Am very sorry if twitter/spam put you off. Let me know if you still have a question I can help with.

Kleptronic Fri 22-Mar-13 22:03:48

Ah! A Spanish one, good choice. Head exploding though josine? Maybe a lie down?

WireCatWhore Fri 22-Mar-13 22:02:53

Was a very good chat.

Where do the spambots come from? And is there anyway to stop them?

Pan Fri 22-Mar-13 21:57:19

Spam? Really? Have no idea how that generates, esp the porn thing.

I thought it was quite a quiet event overall. Which was a bit of a surprise.

josine32 Fri 22-Mar-13 21:56:48

That was for you Kleptronic - sorry - not good at this

josine32 Fri 22-Mar-13 21:55:54

I don't know actually! I think it is a Spanish one - have just spoken to Mum back home in the Netherlands and that lasted an hour. I feel my head is about to explode. I have also started mat leave today shock

ouryve Fri 22-Mar-13 21:54:27

The spam did get overwhelming in the end. Spam is probably the real reason that most trends are trending. I expect a lot of us will have a few porny followers to block in the morning, too.

Kleptronic Fri 22-Mar-13 21:50:41

Not well Josine not well. Possibly others were more successful. What wine are you drinking? Or thinking of? What wine to have with chips is my burning question.

currybaby Fri 22-Mar-13 21:50:37

had to get away from all those twitter spams. i found it really hard to follow! enjoying the wine though. and good tweets from knackeredmutha. was good. is this the after party?

josine32 Fri 22-Mar-13 21:47:43

Hiya again ladies! I think my Twittering didn't work out that well in the end! If you want to follow me though I'm 'JosineDutchUK'! How did everyone else get on?

Kleptronic Fri 22-Mar-13 21:47:36

Thanks KateSMumsnet but me no understando. Follow Mumsnet shall I for winey chat? <channelling yoda>

gazzalw Fri 22-Mar-13 21:42:13

Drinking a rather cruddy rose here (note the oenological terminology!!!). Not good on tweets. Agree about the crisps (Kettles in this house).

Helen, what's your favourite country of origin for red, white and rose wines? Or is that way too simplistic an approach?

KateSMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 22-Mar-13 21:40:12

Kleptronic

No people results for knackeredwine

knackeredwine is the hashtag, knackeredmutha is the person. Helen has stopped now, but there's still plenty of winey chat going on! wine
