Only1scoop Mon 17-Feb-14 22:23:05

Jan 5 1991

Went shopping. I got 2 pairs of shoes, school shoes and best shoes (black, patent, heels).

Mitchells party! It was OK.

LondonInHighHeeledBoots Mon 17-Feb-14 22:23:25

Haha! How long is it? Every year I'd keep a diary, which would last until about the 6 th of Jan maybe. Couldn't handle the commitmentgrin

baskingseals Mon 17-Feb-14 22:23:35

God at least yours is funny. Mine are toecurlingly horrendous. I really did think I knew it all. I have also included what I ate for lunch. It is a strange mixture of innocence and attitude.

Keep going! I remember I complained in mine that my parents were "slave-drivers" for making me tidy up my room. hmm

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:24:04

Jan 6 1991

Went to town. I forgot my dress so I couldn't buy anything.

Paloma12 Mon 17-Feb-14 22:24:29

Snow (!) still here, school was OK. Loadsa homework so didn't do much else (what a boring old sod huh!)

Eebahgum Mon 17-Feb-14 22:27:28

Oh my god - I was 12 then too. Don't think I kept a diary at that age, thankfully. Although I did keep one on my holiday to Tenerife aged 18 - that's pretty hilarious.

Paloma12 Mon 17-Feb-14 22:28:00

Was jan 12 a Saturday?

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:28:09

Ah glad someone else is enjoying it too. DH is in a right grump and wouldn't listen.

Not sure what all the huh-ing is about.

Eebahgum Mon 17-Feb-14 22:28:23

I loved babysitters club saga.

Ahh! I'm in love again! First meeting with Mr Brown! He's drop dead gorgeous! And he really reminds me of Robert.

Mr Brown was a supply French teacher, Robert was a guy who volunteered on a church club holiday I went on in the previous summer. He was 30 and I lurrved him for about 2 years!

Only1scoop Mon 17-Feb-14 22:31:41

Priceless grin

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:31:41

Am ill so missed Church

Jan 14 1991

Still ill so missed school. House assemblies apparently, so didn't miss much. Mum and Dad went to their first foster meeting.

Mum and Dad were Foster Carers for a while

EatShitDerek Mon 17-Feb-14 22:41:25

So wish I had made a dairy when I was younger. My sister is a tween so I will talk her into so I can read it when she is 20 grin

Jan 15 1991

Today is the last day for S.Hussain to get out of Kuwait. Probably means war. I was off school again but I'm going back tomorrow after a day of luxury.

pixiestix Mon 17-Feb-14 22:43:36

This is great! grin I binned my old diaries as they were so embarrassing they made me want to peel off my own skin just to stop the pain.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:44:06

Jan 16 1991

Went to school but got out of games. No war yet. Dad's in London + Jane's in Burnley. Catherine's hair cut.

Jane is younger sister, Catherine is BFF

NinjaCow Mon 17-Feb-14 22:45:01

This is so fun grin DSis2 kept a diary, I loved reading about it all.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:45:08

Nothing really happened today. Dad's in Belfast. War broke out. Shit pen.

Went to Guides. Went shopping for fridges and bust one, then deafened whole shop when I pressed CD on something.

riverboat Mon 17-Feb-14 22:46:54

I love the daring juxtaposition of the chilling outbreak of war...and malfunctioning stationery wink

VelmaD Mon 17-Feb-14 22:48:13

I loved babysitters club books! Wonder if they're still in libraries?!

I kept diaries. I think I burned them when I was early twenties. The ones from 15/16 were hard. I remember making myself cry at the angst re-reading them. Im pretty sure I destroyed them as I dont think they're in my loft.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:48:47

Jan 19 1991

Church Youth Club party. It was quite good. Got loads of ideas for Dirty Dancing with Helen. (I watched it for 2nd time). Dad's in Amsterdam.

That sounds weird. Helen and I had a Dirty Dancing routine we did in the school library at break times grin

Still sounds weird

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:50:49

Jan 20 1991

Dad's still in Amsterdam. Spent most of the day with Pam and haven't got anything ready for school. WAR CARRIES ON.

Pam, also contender for BFF but oat points by not going to the same school as me

I want to know what jet set job your dad had!

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:51:00

*lost points

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:52:05

Ha, Dad actually had a mundane factory job in Engineering, but went on a grand tour with work for a few weeks this one time. So unusual, I wrote about it in my 3 lines per day!

"War carries on" grin

Velma I want to know, too. I must've read 50 of them. I wanted to be Claudia, the artistic, cool one.

Ragglefrock Mon 17-Feb-14 22:54:07

Loving the thread

TheRaniOfYawn Mon 17-Feb-14 22:54:25

I love "Nothing much really happened today...War broke out".

Botched up with Angela. What's wrong with me?
Social worker came called Frank. I had to do homework for him!! As if school wasn't enough.

BrianTheMole Mon 17-Feb-14 22:56:30

Love your diary. Lovely reminder for you.

HypodeemicNerdle Mon 17-Feb-14 22:56:48

Loving these! I have old diaries around somewhere but keep them hidden from myself, they make me feel extremely embarrassed! I think I need to put them together somewhere with a note in my will that they are to be burnt without being read upon my death!

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 22:57:26

Jan 23 1991

Took sweets for Angela and fixed everything up. Got a verruca. I think it's from borrowing Angela's socks in Games (I forgot mine).

Duncan finished with Catherine!!!
Big event of the century!!!
She's really, really upset!!!
Poor Catherine, I bet she's crying!!!

TallRedhead Mon 17-Feb-14 22:59:38

This is great. Think I'll dig mine out tomorrow. I wrote for a good few years at that age. Similar 3 line insight to our young selves grin

Didn't do much today; went to see Grandad and his dog! Went to Church, War's still on. Decided to write poetry.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:03:55

Jan 28 1991

Poetry coming along famously. Catherine's going with Tim now, she doesn't really like him, she likes Pollard and James.

Thankfully, there is no actual poetry in the diary for me to share

riverboat Mon 17-Feb-14 23:06:47

Rhubarbgarden Mon 17-Feb-14 23:08:17

I kept diaries from the age of 11 till about 16. I can't read them without wincing. There are also a couple of books of god-awful poetry somewhere, that must never, ever be read. In fact, I really must seek them out and destroy them.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:08:20

Jan 29 1991

Decided from now on it going to be AM <3 Benny.
I <3 Mr Brown
I <3 Robert
I <3 Benny
Catherine's got a brace.

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:09:14

'Pollard' must have been a person, riverboat.

Did 'Cooper Test'. Amy Smith acted hard, no results yet with Benny but Anniemousse always get what she wants.

What's Cooper test? I never got what I wanted, sadly

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:16:57

Jan 31 1991

An emotional day! Catherine asked Russ out for me, I don't know yet, Amy twatted Caroline, really bad. Danielle is evil.

Amy and Danielle = school hard girls
I had forgotten about Catherine asking Russ out at this age. I remember we flirted and I fancied him like mad when we were a bit older, maybe 15. He finally asked me out and I told him I would tell him tomorrow. I had every intention of saying 'yes' but word got around my friends and they all laughed and mocked him, so I said 'no' when tomorrow came. sad
He was a lovely boy, too, and we got on really well. One of my few regrets, that.

mrssprout Mon 17-Feb-14 23:18:14

I now feel breathtakingly ancient.....1991 was the year I got married grin

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:18:46

Feb 1 1991

That's it! I've kept my diary for a month so I'll check up on my resolutions, and write to people and read <----

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:21:02

I'll post Feb tomorrow if you like, going to bed soon. Diary only goes up to beginning of April.

Thanks for laughing along with me smile - hopefully, and not at me (teenage angst resurfacing).

lifesgreatquestions Mon 17-Feb-14 23:21:32

Thanks for this! I have one diary, it's an ET diary,so must have been early 80's, and I was about 12. Every day I comment on missing my father, being angry with my mother, and hating my step father. It's like I never did anything else but feel those things!

This is so like mine from the same age. I found it when I was staying over at my mum and dad's a couple of years ago and ended up staying up to read it all till 2 in the morning. Best laugh I'd had in ages.

It is honestly as if someone else wrote it, isn't it?!

Mine was also embarrassingly full of the latest gossip from Dynasty and The Colby's. Lots of "saw this dead good programme about ghosts" rubbish too. And "spots are really bad at the moment - not good".

"Saw Steve in biology. I'm sure he looked at me."
"Morton Harket was on Saturday Superstore - he is sooooooo gorgeous."
"Had Hamwich for tea - tasty!!"

LettertoHermioneGranger Mon 17-Feb-14 23:26:19

This is fantastic. Please continue tomorrow!

War carries on.

Sue Townsend is a genius. You read Adrian Mole and then you read an actual 13 year old's diary and they are very similar!

Anniemousse Mon 17-Feb-14 23:30:33

I thought that too Curlyhaired that it sounds like Adrian Mole in places.

LottieAndTheDinosaur Mon 17-Feb-14 23:34:44

but Anniemousse always gets what she wants grin Brilliant!!

I'm the same age as you smile loved Sweet Valley High too! wish I had kept my diaries, I used to write loads of 'angsty' stuff in them! I think I found them a few years ago but got rid sad

Ellellie Tue 18-Feb-14 06:59:17

I thought it was a little Adrian Mole in places. Fantastic read!

My friend and I had a book we used to write notes back and forward to each other in at school. V.Cringeworthy (as my 13year old self would say!)

Please continue!

Looking forward to today's installment!

500internalerror Tue 18-Feb-14 08:04:35

We really were all the same at that age! It could be my diary you're quoting from. Cringy, but fascinating.

TicTicBOOM Tue 18-Feb-14 08:22:51

God my diary is so dark from that age. I was a pissed off little soul...

NymodigFruOla Tue 18-Feb-14 08:32:17

This is brilliant! grin

"Went to town. I forgot my dress so I couldn't buy anything." I'm intrigued by forgetting your dress so you couldn't buy anything - did you need matching accessories, or something?

MinesAPintOfTea Tue 18-Feb-14 08:34:38

So have you had a baby in space yet?

I've kept mine, mostly because there's a very cringeworthy entry from when I was 16 and had just met now-DH comparing him and another boy.

KonkeyDong Tue 18-Feb-14 09:13:18

Please carry on! The phrase 'got off with....' Has just thrown me right back to the nineties and my kissing boys phase grin

pancakedayiscoming Tue 18-Feb-14 13:55:30

Nymo, OP, that left me wondering too. Did you need accessories to go with the dress?

MyNameIsAnAnagram Tue 18-Feb-14 14:04:36

Maybe she was going to return the dress?

Looking forward to todays installment too. grin

I was 8 in 1991.

Limelight Tue 18-Feb-14 14:08:10

So you and Helen had a Dirty Dancing routine which you did in the library.

Erm... why the library? grin

Limelight Tue 18-Feb-14 14:09:24

Incidentally this thread should be called 'war carries on'.

In fact you should name change grin

My friend and I had a dirty dancing routine that we did too, we did it on a fallen tree in the woods next to the BMX track and the river. grin

MarthasHarbour Tue 18-Feb-14 14:15:36

I love the daring juxtaposition of the chilling outbreak of war...and malfunctioning stationery

Me too - this is fabulous!!! You had more of a conscience than me back then - i was 18 and too busy going out clubbing to worry about the war blush

vladthedisorganised Tue 18-Feb-14 14:25:12

This is magnificent. I particularly love the war/pen juxtaposition.
I found one of my old diaries a while back and only got to January..

Jan 3 1990. Have realised that no matter how careful I am, someone might read this diary e.g. if house is burgled or bag stolen. So I will write the rest of this diary in code.
--!174n jidyn33 s22nf dus2112 f0on3n23 11255s (h3456 = HG). h3456 + 11... !!

Jan 4th 1990. School back. h3456 bes387 ONNNNNNN! 07 8377. -- 8n dh435 2kd.

No idea who or what HG was (boy? band? event? item of clothing?).

TinyTwoTears Tue 18-Feb-14 14:27:57

Very cute! I was 17 in 1991 and kept a diary the year after. I found it about 5 years ago. It was so mortifying that I binned it straight away along with som rather racy love letters. blush

And the my DM rang me this morning to say she found a notebook of mine from late teens. It had a rather flowery declaration if love to an anonymous peron in it. Which she read out to me over the phone. O.M.G. blush blush

I told her to shred it and never to speak of it again.

MarthasHarbour Tue 18-Feb-14 14:31:17

vlad and tiny you have both made me cry laughing at my desk! grin

Its0kToBeMe Tue 18-Feb-14 14:32:14

vlad Do you still remember the code? Reading it has made my eyes hurt!

SarahAndFuck Tue 18-Feb-14 14:39:34

I wrote my diary in code when I was twelve.

The code was to spell certain words backwards, because nobody would ever crack that. hmm grin

I also ended each day by putting a list of five boys names in order. Every girl in my school was keeping those lists of five boys names, I think because they did that in one of Sweet Valley High books.

The order changed according to how much you liked each boy that day and how much contact you might have had with them. Contact mostly seemed to involve sitting at the next table to them in class or being in the same row as they were during assembly grin If one of them actually spoke to you he went right to the top of the list.

And the names were obviously in that uncrackable code.

I wonder if I can find it. From what I remember, it contained all my thoughts on a boy called Martin, also known as Nitram for purposes of code secrecy, and he was usually at number one on my list. He had no idea I was even alive.

vladthedisorganised Tue 18-Feb-14 14:46:40

Absolutely no idea. May have had something to do with the old phones that had letters and numbers on the dial...?

I have visions of an Enigma-style crack team working through the night in GCHQ and finally coming up with "Bros are really crud", "I hate netball" and "James asked me if I liked the Stone Roses!!! And he sat next to me on the bus and everything!!!!"

Lyonesse Tue 18-Feb-14 14:48:30

Oh god, I have loads of old diaries (all which end at about January 20th, anyone reading them years into the future might think I died, but really, I was just very lazy and disorganised) and I physically cringe when I read them back. One particularly dramatic January involved me writing close to two pages about how much I hated a particular girl for the heinous crime of taking my chair in a classroom. I'd have probably banged out War and Peace Part 2 if someone had done something really bad.
I also referred to most people by codenames so half the time I don't even know who I was talking about. I think my career as a spy was over before it began...

vladthedisorganised Tue 18-Feb-14 14:50:51

Sarah I love it!

Manchesterhistorygirl Tue 18-Feb-14 14:57:50

I was 11 in 1991 and this is so my life. I have am old diary of mine kicking around. If I come across it I'll post it on here. It had scented pages and a lock!

MarieJeanne Tue 18-Feb-14 15:00:51

I kept a diary from the age of 12 to 20. I threw them out after my boyfriend read them. He's now my DH but i have NEVER forgiven him. I would love to read them again.

EllaMenOhPea Tue 18-Feb-14 15:01:35

I had a diary in 1991 too - I had just turned 13. It's probably in the loft of my parents house. I would die inside if I ever re read or it was read in my absence.

I remember writing about the war and Sadda Musain grin

Pointeshoes Tue 18-Feb-14 15:19:05

I wrote a diary age 11- 14. Wrote an a5 page most days about all sorts of rubbish and made it look pretty.
But I just had to burn them! Just would be too embarrassing if someone else read them.
I always mean to start a diary because i do love to just write nonsense, it used to de- stress me.

CrazyOldCatLady Tue 18-Feb-14 15:36:18

I was 11 in 1991. I didn't start diarying till 1993 or so, I think, but I wrote REAMS of terribly tragic and heartbroken shite till 2000, when I was too heartbroken to write any more.

Rhubarbgarden Tue 18-Feb-14 15:47:40

I've had to drag out my old 1991 diary thanks to this thread, and spent the past hour curling up in mortification at my 17 year old self. Oh the dramas! I am almost moved to message old school friends on FaceBook and apologise for twattish behaviour, twenty odd years too late.

It's the poetry that's the most toe curling though. I give you:

Do you know what your eyes do to me?
I think perhaps you do.
They have the same effect on many a girl
Who happens to look at you.
I've seen a lot of ol' blue eyes
And long black curly lashes,
But yours really do surpass them all
When magnified by glasses.

EduCated Tue 18-Feb-14 15:54:27

*But yours really do surpass them all
When magnified by glasses.*

I am CRYING! That is outstanding grin

It's even beaten the fact that Catherine's break up was bigger news than war!

MadIsTheNewNormal Tue 18-Feb-14 16:01:12

Haha - i love 'WAR CARRIES ON' about three days after it breaks out. grin

that reminds me of the time my DS had to do a project on heroes and he picked Winston Churchill. He went into really elaborate detail throughout most of it, but then obviously ran out of steam towards the end, as he wrote:

Chapter 6: The war continues, then ends.

Succinct and to the point, I thought. grin

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 16:06:38

"Went to town. I forgot my dress so I couldn't buy anything." I'm intrigued by forgetting your dress so you couldn't buy anything - did you need matching accessories, or something?

No idea! I am as clueless as you.

So have you had a baby in space yet?

No, but I had 2 homebirths and may as well have been planning a space birth given people's reactions to the idea smile

So you and Helen had a Dirty Dancing routine which you did in the library. Erm... why the library?

Because we were Librarians of course!

Jan 3 1990. Have realised that no matter how careful I am, someone might read this diary e.g. if house is burgled or bag stolen. So I will write the rest of this diary in code.

You need to post the rest of it, see if we can crack it together!

Do you know what your eyes do to me? I think perhaps you do. They have the same effect on many a girl Who happens to look at you. I've seen a lot of ol' blue eyes And long black curly lashes,But yours really do surpass them all When magnified by glasses

Bwah hah hah haaaaa

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 16:11:10

Tell you what's sobering. Anne Frank kept her diary at about this age.
Much more eloquent than mine.
Wonder if there was an editing decision not to include her poetry?

NymodigFruOla Tue 18-Feb-14 16:30:34

Anniemousse, I'm so sorry you can't remember about the dress smile - I had visions of you going shopping semi-clothed, for some weird reason blush

I was well old in 1991. I'm even well older now grin

Went to Church. Went to Grandad's, wrote poetry and cried about my cashflow. An eventful day, if not emotional!

HumphreyCobbler Tue 18-Feb-14 16:44:01

this is brilliant
thanks for sharing

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 16:47:57

Need to post from laptop, can't type well on ipad.

NymodigFruOla Tue 18-Feb-14 16:51:27

Blimey, you must have been sophisticated. I didn't even know what cashflow was when I was 12 years old!!!

You've inspired me, I've ordered a luxury notebook. Going to start writing in it as often as possible.

I used to keep diaries, and like most by the end of January the routine of writing in it had gone tits up. No idea where the are now, at my mum's house somewhere no doubt.

30 isn't too old to start keeping a diary again is it? grin

EasyCompadre Tue 18-Feb-14 17:01:18

This is amazing, good on you for sharing Annie. I guarantee that my own diary in 1998 when I was 12 would have read spookily similarly... Particularly with regards to Sweet Valley High and Babysitters Club, plus the addition of Goosebumps grin

Rhubarb that poem is pure gold, "when magnified by glasses" has brightened my day no end!

Limelight Tue 18-Feb-14 17:37:34

'When magnified by glasses'

Mwah hahahahahahahahaha

Mwaaaaaah hahahahaha!

TinyTwoTears Tue 18-Feb-14 17:39:55

rhubarb, that is a superb poem. It actually reminds of John Hegley poems. One of his collections is called "glad to wear glasses", check it out smile

AcaciaBeez Tue 18-Feb-14 18:52:42

Oh keep going I was born in this year and I want to know what you did on my birth day!

I got Benny a card. Mel gave it to him, I got 1 home made one. Catherine got a massive one off Pollard.

MinesAPintOfTea Tue 18-Feb-14 19:09:37

You can't stop 4 days before valentine's day! How will we ever find out if your One True Love (TM) was reciprocated?

Lilly20again Tue 18-Feb-14 19:10:23

Got off with!!! Too funny. I so remember that.

I burnt mine, sort of wish I had kept the diaries from sixth form. I was in panic that someone would read them.

I had a major obsession with an odd boy, which I'm a bit sad about now. should have just shagged around, your only young once

MinesAPintOfTea Tue 18-Feb-14 19:13:19

You didn't record who it was off? Or if Benny liked your card? sad

Rhubarbgarden Tue 18-Feb-14 19:25:11

I'm glad you all enjoyed my poem. There are stacks more, mostly turgid angsty navel gazing. I had such a crush on that boy with the glasses though; a good third are outpourings of unrequited love for him. I bumped into him at a wedding a decade later, by then he was wearing contact lenses and even more drop dead gorgeous. I ended up going out with him for a couple of years, but he was a bit of a prat really so when his hairline started receding I ended it <not proud>

Sparklegeek Tue 18-Feb-14 19:30:10

I kept a diary every day between the ages of 18 & 23. It is toe-curling blush But every now & then I do like to dip in & out & pretend I am that person again. And no, I won't be serialising that on here!

springlamb Tue 18-Feb-14 19:35:34

I have my 1981 diary when I was 14. I read it when I want to prove to myself that I really did make a little progress along the road to sanity.
Most of the year is taken up with the angst of being a New Romantic in a house where music stopped with Jim Reeves.
Much is obscured by the practice signatures of the many men I would actually never marry. Hence we have Springlamb Kemp, Springlamb Taylor, Springlamb Ure and Springlamb Strange on one occasion. There are plans to find a way into the Camden Palace.
It all ends sadly in August when I manage to kiss Raymond. No, I don't recall him either.

thegreylady Tue 18-Feb-14 19:43:38

I have mine from when I was 9 (1953) and I love reading it.
30th April 1953
My aunty had a baby, it is quite nice I think. My mammy says it is a bony(bonny?) little thing. Its name will be Margaret because it is a girl and a sister for Paul.
3rd June 1953
Coronation Day. I have a cardboard coach and horses to cut out,I must be careful of the lines. It is fancy dress today and I will be a televison, my daddy made me an aireel.

The baby, my cousin, will be 61 in April and is a grandma smile

Rhubarbgarden Tue 18-Feb-14 19:48:56

Greylady that is so sweet! smile

PeaceEagle Tue 18-Feb-14 19:55:03

Thanks so much for sharing this. I was 16 in 1991, but I remember my 1987 ramblings surprisingly well. I would write a long litany of woe, and end it with "c'est la vie! (That's life in French)". Such a prat. Also did the lists of boys which would change order every day.

Hedgehog80 Tue 18-Feb-14 20:20:52

I have my diaries from when I was 12/13/14 after that I stopped as DM would break the locks and read them then embarass me.

Some of the letters I wrote to people I had crushes on were dreadful. I spent a long time doing drafts in my diaries!

batfuttocks Tue 18-Feb-14 20:22:36

Loving this. I was also 11 at the start of 1991 and wrote a diary frighteningly similar to this. I remember reminding myself to record the war - in case of future posterity.

Cooper test = fitness test. We did them too.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 20:23:39

Enjoying your diary entries everyone!

I kept all my diaries, ages 10 - 22 or so, on and off. There is a bit of a gap around the time I was 12 though.

However I did find this musing about a times table test and other subjects when I was 11.....I'm a bit worried that not cheating is news...

Wednesday 28th of March 1984

I did well and didn't cheat!
I improved by about 4, well I know it's not by much but its better than nothing! I've gone off the A Team because it hasn't been on for a long time. I'm back on pop music so I'm going to go on and on about it - sorry. I like Howard Jones and the Thompson Twins"

Samuel Paul Peter Jones is Paul's dad. Found out in a personal document! Anna came over. She also knows about SPPJ.

Shame. My older brother has a different birth father but adopted by my dad. When my parents were out one day I rifled through some paperwork out of idle curiosity and found my brother's adoption papers. I did know already that he had a different dad

bakeroony Tue 18-Feb-14 20:37:22

when magnified by glasses grin grin

I was 5 in 1991. My first diary around that age (well, 1992) is entirely filled with entries about sweets, Noel's House Party, Gladiators and visits from Grandma.

My diary from when I was 13 is so cringe I think I must have embarrassed myself and not written again for 6 years. However my 19-year-old self was even worse.

Yes, I had a "fitty list".

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 20:37:31

PatTheHammer Tue 18-Feb-14 20:39:26

I am about the same age as you OP and this is all sounding deliciously familiar......right down to the Jason Donovan game and the politics that went on at girl guides.

I had a five year lockable secret diary tat has thankfully been long lost.

Feb 22 1991
LONDON! We travelled down tonight. We're sleeping at Paul's home. Didn't do much during the day 'coz I still felt sick. Got dressed at 4 o'clock (approx)

Today we went to visit R and D in Maidstone. They gave me loads of plastic bags (I'm going to collect them). We also went shopping in Maidstone. Paul's going to get me a Harrod's bag if and when he can.

I started writing my diary when I was 12, in 2005, and I find it hilarious to read it back, and VERY blush Filled with teen angst. I talked about people, and some events, in code.

So I have a diary with boys called 'black hole' (shortened to BH, I talked loads about him- he ate loads but stayed skinny) or 'cheese' (he liked cheese sandwiches and apparently this was an identifying and important feature hmm ). My biggest crush was 'gerbil'.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 21:03:30

Only 1 month left smile

Love this thread!

Okay, I give you a poem (fortunately not a love poem...) written aged 11

Spagetti Bolognaise
Riding is my greatest craze
Not forgetting the grated cheese
Writing comes to me with ease
Of course you need a spoon and fork
And now I think of it i love to talk
Take the fork and swirl it around
My gerbils together weight half a pound
Scraping pasta from the platter
All this spagetti is making me fatter

SarahAndFuck Tue 18-Feb-14 21:11:41

I found my diary from 1988 and this is an entry for a very good day. Speaking to two of the boys on my list and one of them was Nitram grin

Took Repsaj <dog> to the krap and when we went past the feild I saw Nitram and Rehpotsirhc standing by the etag with the sesroh. Nitram really liked Repsaj and he walked up the htap with us and said "taerg god" to me which is the first time he's ever nekops to me first so Repsaj is my ykcul mrahc.

Rehpotsirhc is ecin as well but not as ecin as Nitram. Have to ring sniwt to tell them what happened, Asil will be really soulaej that I saw Rehpotsirhc without her.

1. Nitram
2. Maharg
3. B Nairda
4. Eimaj
5. Rehpotsirhc

Which, loosely translated from my unbreakable code, says that I took our dog, Jasper, to the park (not the best word to write in code) and met Martin and Christopher on the path to it standing by a gate next to some horses. And that Martin said Jasper was a great dog (true, he was) and that this was the first time Martin had spoken to me first so Jasper was my lucky charm.

And that Christopher was nice too but not as nice as Martin. And that I had to ring my friends, who were twins, and one of them, Lisa, was going to be jealous that I saw Christopher because she liked him.

And then I've listed my five boys of the day in order, Martin, Graham, Adrian B, Jamie and Christopher.

The rules for these listings meant I had to include Christopher because I liked him and he spoke to me, but he couldn't be near the top of my list because Lisa liked him before I did and so putting him at the top was tantamount to stealing him from her grin

I apparently couldn't spell field or jealous properly, forwards or backwards grin

From what I remember of Martin, he looked like a younger version of Nick Berry and I fail to remember what exactly it was I saw in him.

Everything else in the diary seems to involve hating getting changed for PE in front of everybody, wishing my brother would move out so I could have his bedroom, thinking our Geography teacher was embarrassing and fantasising about marrying Bros (all of them).

The diary reads like an Ikea Book of Baby Names because of all the backwards code grin

SarahAndFuck Tue 18-Feb-14 21:16:28

Imaging Nick Berry at age 12, still with this haircut but in a bad school uniform and with more spots and you'll have a pretty good idea of Nitram, object of my unrequited love for about five long months in 1988.

grin loving this! I was 12 in 1991 too!

I'm almost wishing I hadn't binned my cringy diaries. I think I wrote about 'The Bill' a lot and how much I fancied the boys who sat in front of us in maths.

I remember jotting that Tom who I occasionally walked home with had a very 'manly wave' - aged 12?!

Skill. Brill. Doss... Yup.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 21:32:49

We're the same age, OP - I remember when the war broke out, I was with my friend and breaking news came over the radio and we looked at each other wide eyed and then went and looked through her mum's knicker drawer.

124 days til Camp. WOW!
Did absolutely nothing today. Ironed and washed clothes for holiday. Me and Jane were left alone from 1.30 - 7.05 while mum took DBro visiting.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 22:36:30

April 5 1991
Got ready for holiday. I really miss Benny. Gotta go, early start!

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 22:38:13

April 6 1991
We arrived at 1pm.
Paul, me and Jane are sharing a chalet; mum, dad and DBro in another. Grub's delicious. Nights are skill coz there's no mum to yell.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 22:43:04

That's it…except for an entry in October

October 19 1991
I've fallen in love with Noel Wright.
Tomorrow I'm gonna ask Catherine and the gang if they + Noel + [his friend] wanna come to the cinema to see Doc Hollywood. I want to ask Noel out then, but I probably won't have the courage. I could get one of the gang to ask him for me. I really want this!!! More than anything I want to be a real teenager, not a frigid little stay at home.

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 22:53:16

No, never got together with him but have just looked him up on Facebook and he seems to be a very happy family man with a friendly looking wife and beautiful kids - so good on him.

MsInterpret Tue 18-Feb-14 22:55:53

Thanks OP, have had fun/misty-eyed recollections reading this this evening. Was 10 in 1991. Vividly remember a big, exciting new display when we went into school (primary) after New Year 1990 - the words 'INTO THE NINETIES'...Sure I would've noted that one down in the diary.

Also snorting at NONE EXISTANT. Am 99% sure I did the very same.

God, we were so earnest and yet UNself-aware at the same time.

Ha! grin

Okay! This is a great thread. Skill. grin

Who is next up to relay their diary to us?

Step up someone!

You best all be in your lofts searching, and I best not have killed a great thread...

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 23:55:47

highlandermam the floor is yours

Anniemousse Tue 18-Feb-14 23:57:13

I have got The 1992 Chronicles - again, only until April but would have to seriously edit them as I became…very strange.
It's in a scented, lockable page a day diary, opening brought back strong memories.

I don't have any diaries to read! they are all over 300 miles away in my parents house. (if they are even still in existence)

Sarahandfuck? GreyLady?

Indulge us all please. grin

Tell us your 1992 chronicles.

Rhubarbgarden Wed 19-Feb-14 08:46:18

I really enjoyed this thread. I would not go back to being a teenager for anything. I must remember to be nice to dd when she gets to this age and at all costs stop her writing poetry

vladthedisorganised Wed 19-Feb-14 13:22:47

Managed to translate a few pages from 1992 (coded by this point through alternate use of anagrams, Tricolore textbooks and what appear to be some ancient phrasebooks my parents had knocking around the house.)

April 5th 1992.
oh non suqes ueq ej oids raife? D te oim ogt 1er ssecla wadras per il teatro... suip li aisdit euq li ghtout ej taite "molto bene" en am loer..
FRAGEN - suequeest li teresserin? ro sujt eingb einc?
Stilening ot Annie's (L's roesu) pyco fo Inspiral Carpets - deonm el outt sand am esslca refper NKOTB tub ej en xuep sap retppurors ces hommes! Deen ot ormf a ndba!

Code cracked:
"Oh no, what to do? D and I both got top of the class awards in drama - then he said he thought I was 'really good' in the play.. QUESTION - does he fancy me? Or was he just being nice?
Listening to Annie's (L's sister) copy of Inspiral Carpets - everyone in my class thinks NKOTB are better but I can't stand them! Need to form a band!

D was the class heartthrob on account of looking marginally like Balthazar Getty in a bad light. When my friends found out he'd said congratulations it was considered practically a marriage proposal. Nothing ever happened, of course. I never did form a band either though tried on various occasions through my teens. My French got better though...

smile smile smile

That is one harsh code!

MacBee Wed 19-Feb-14 13:45:02

You all must absolutely buy this book.
My friend bought it for me a few years ago and we read bits out loud with tears streaming down our faces.

I have 4 diaries that have survived various house moves. They each cover a different set of months when I was 15, 16, 17 and 18. Awful tripe, but very entertaining.

Thanks MacBee, I've ordered a copy from ebay for £2.79 with free delivery!

You should relay some stuff from your diaries! I love reading this stuff.

Notafoodbabyanymore Wed 19-Feb-14 14:02:36

I was 10 in 1991 too, and my diary was awful! I actually used to write like my diary was a person, and apologise to it for missing days. It was, obviously, about boys, for the most part, and me writing about how much I wanted to kiss them.

This thread is genius, so funny.

ChasedByBees Wed 19-Feb-14 14:15:04

Ok, I know I'm posting about stuff several pages back, but Vlad's descent into code made me cry laughing, and Rhubarb, you are too cruel posting that just after Valentines day, I would have loved to steal that for my card to DH. grin

MacBee Wed 19-Feb-14 14:21:57

20th April 2001 (age 15)

"Had a riding lesson today. Problem was my back was hurting* so I was in pain. I don't know why I didn't stop. I guess I was determined not to quit cos I hate quitters. In the end I did quit."

23rd April 2001

"A phoned and was too happy. I got a headache afterwards which has not gone away so I probably have a brain tumour and will be dead before I turn 16."

(charming. A was and still is my best friend, but I was a little cloud of doom aged 15)

10th May 2003 (age 17)

"Wish shaving off eyebrows and drawing on fresh ones with eye liner weren't so outdated. With I could draw myself huge startled-like 'brows ala Kim Novak in Vertigo. Would save so much tweezing".

(I never plucked my eyebrows, but I had recently seen Vertigo so I presume I was putting this in the diary so my future self would be impressed at my sophistication and wit. Well, future self is not impressed and thinks 17 year old self is a bit of a tit.)

Start of university:

28th September 2003 (age 18)

"Lectures start tomorrow but my first is only at 1. Then my next is at 4. I think."

(good start)

30th September 2003

"Missed a lecture this morning--whoops! It WON'T be happening again."

(yes it did)

vladthedisorganised Wed 19-Feb-14 14:42:28

Can we nominate this for Classics? I am still crying over taking the dog to the kcrap..

DinoSnores Wed 19-Feb-14 15:04:19

Reading this has reminded me that I need to get rid of my teenage diaries in case I die suddenly! I don't want my family to read that!

future self is not impressed and thinks 17 year old self is a bit of a tit.

Ha! grin

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 16:02:47

Extracts from 1992 (I'm not doing the whole thing - it's very dull mostly)

Inside cover: Luncheon meat face! Get your grimy hands off my private and personal diary or I will add to your facial derangement!

(^to dsis^)

Mitchells Birthday bash. No lads = no Noel.
I don't know what I'd do if he asked me out, I feel really uncomfortable around him now.
Gotta go, getting a sore bum from sitting on the loo!

Tomorrow I'm gonna wear a short skirt to Youth Club and have Carl fancy me. I know he's a bit younger but I think he fancies Jane.
Didn't wear a short skirt, it was too cold.

2 of my bath pearls have gone missing - think it's Jane but not sure! I'll find out though! BELIEVE ME, I DON'T NEED THIS!!!
Missing bath pearl reappeared!

HumphreyCobbler Wed 19-Feb-14 16:08:30

love it grin

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage Wed 19-Feb-14 16:17:29

I kept a diary from aged 14 to about 26 and no way would I ever be able to post any of it on here! I started again a few months ago but no clue where it is now!!

EduCated Wed 19-Feb-14 16:18:06

Ooh, bath pearls!

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 16:25:57

I have died. Last night my periods started. It's horrible and icky and gooey and disgusting. I am able to have children now! I'm going to use tampons no matter what mum thinks. I'm NOT spending 7 whole years of my life like this

PatTheHammer Wed 19-Feb-14 16:41:20

Oh I feel your pain with that one Annie, I was in a Y8 Geography lesson when mine started and I was beyond mortified. I truly thought it was the grimmest most embarrassing thing ever.

PatTheHammer Wed 19-Feb-14 16:42:13

I also love the fact that a missing bath pearl could've tipped you of the edgegrin

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 16:48:21

It's presentation,
Mental Preparation

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 16:50:15

grin pat that made me smile too. If only my problems today were so trivial!

TheCunkOfPhilomena Wed 19-Feb-14 16:53:42

This is definitely going to classics.

Annie I think I love you!

WeAreEternal Wed 19-Feb-14 16:57:25

I love this.

I kept journals religiously from the age of about 10 to my early 20. In the beginning they were just three line entries in a small journal, but by 13 the where full page sometimes two page essays in an A5 book. That went on until about 18/19 when I got married, moved away with DP and started university, then I dropped down to a paragraph or so in a standard diary.

I still have all of them, some are so cringeworthy but I love them I'm so glad my mum encouraged me to write journals, being able to look back is great. Especially when I can look back and read what I wrote about DP when I was 13 and he was "like sooo annoying but sooo pretty".

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:05:31

Have to choose my GCSE options ...... Arghhhhh
I have to make choice about my life?
But what if I get into really deep strife?
Can not I reach 20 years on, and see,
What life is meant to be like, for me?
Can't my decision be made by someone else!
It's just that I can't make that choice myself.

I still go on like this when I have big decisions to make

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:11:39

DON'T TALK JUST KISS is my absolutely fave song by Right Said fred and it's EXCELLENT.
For my records now I'm going to get:
Bryan Adams Everything I Do
Vic Reeves and the Wonderstuff Dizzy
Right Said Fred Don't talk just kiss
They'll have to be from the 99p section coz I'm saving for summer camp.

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:13:48

Poetry is the food of love
Music the dessert
When you've finished making love
You simply have to burp

Think I'll go now, how can I follow that?

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:19:05

Actually, this is my favourite entry from 1992

My pig necklace has gone! My heart is broken! My chain of love snapped! Misery to me!

I found it, it was under my toilet bag.

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:25:48

Jane's got a sexy mag under her bed. It's called "LOVELY AND TRUE" or something like that. I've read a little, she doesn't know, of course. It's quite passionate actually.

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 17:38:34

Dad's birthday.
We got a Chinese and a Video. Problem Child. It was crap.
Susie Mitchell sent me a 'letter' in RE. It was a bogie wrapped in a piece of paper. BITCH!

EduCated Wed 19-Feb-14 17:54:32

More! More! grin

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage Wed 19-Feb-14 18:07:47

"Had Hamwich for tea - tasty!!"

Assassin you were years your time!!! I first read hamwich on here last year grin

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 18:09:10

Made a keyring in metalwork today and a quiche too.
The quiche was made in Home Economics.
It was yucky but the keyring is nice.

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 18:11:54

PISS OFF MUM. I'm not being cocky you fat bitch. You think you're so great. You're the cocky one yourself. I was only explaining - both times - and when you are losing the argument you back out by calling me cocky and cheeky!!!

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 18:13:24

Mother's Day
Me and Dbro got mum some silver coasters from Nolan's. £3.30. Mum said she's seen them cheaper elsewhere - but never mind.

BeaWheesht Wed 19-Feb-14 18:19:18

This is hilarious. I never kept a diary but sadly my BFF forever and I wrote letters every day to each other. I threw all mine (from her) out and she's bloody kept all the ones from me, were 32 now and I live in fear she will release them on Facebook one day.

BeaWheesht Wed 19-Feb-14 18:20:45

Lol at 'mum said she's seen them cheaper elsewhere'

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 18:22:33

Typical of my mother that. Well, it's Ok, but you could have done slightly better, but never mind smile

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage Wed 19-Feb-14 18:41:45

I reread my diaries a few years ago and it was not a good idea. I felt exactly how I felt back then and it caused a few problems sad. Obviously boy related blush.

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 18:43:02

MacBee thanks think I will order that book

CumbrianExile Wed 19-Feb-14 19:00:34

Haha, after reading this I am gutted I never kept a diary!

Aldwick Wed 19-Feb-14 19:29:32

Is it wrong that I want to stalk Susie Mitchell on fb on your behalf and send her a virtual bogie? Still loving this thread so much.

lannyshrops Wed 19-Feb-14 20:05:19

One of the best MN thread, ever!! Thanksmouse grin

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 20:41:14

Thanks for sharing it with me. smile

Btw don't stalk anyone called susie mitchell on fb, it's an alias!

I have been WEEPING with laughter at this - thank you so much! grin

MarthasHarbour Wed 19-Feb-14 21:31:08

marking place

my mother would have said (and still would say) the EXACT same thing about the coasters! everytime i tell her something she always says to me 'what you should have said/done is..' i cook a meal and i get 'oo this is lovely - just needs a bit more seasoning' angry

<projecting> wink

Ok so I happen to have my 1991 diary down from the loft from when I was trying to date some old photos

I am old though so had already left school

Feb 1 1991
Rather a depressing day
stayed till half 2 at work
one of the puppies tested positive for parvo so we prob wont hear for another week
went shopping bought D a card & tokens, cabbage and peanuts (not for D), got stuck in a jam coming home.
Henry left in Neighbours...very moving grin
just watched Kane and Abel [sp]
its a week now since we chose our seems more and more unlikely that we'll ever get him

crikey my diary was boring.....maybe I should go and get the ones from 1980's when I was at school, they'd be much more entertaining!

Best thread ever!!!! grin

Oh and thanks to whoever recommended the book...I've ordered one!

Rhubarbgarden Wed 19-Feb-14 22:48:04

Bath Pearls! Loving this thread. Thank you. smile

NoLikeyNoLighty Wed 19-Feb-14 23:15:12

OMG, I still have all my diaries from approx 1991 - 1996! They make brilliant reading, as I love to read back occasionally and grin
Seriously though, I've got pages and pages of thoughts between the ages of 13 and 18.
Great to stumble across every now and again and laugh at yourself and your ramblings, and see and remember what you did when! smile

Anniemousse Wed 19-Feb-14 23:18:35

Post some Nolikey

NoLikeyNoLighty Wed 19-Feb-14 23:19:19

Will dig them out tomorrow and post the earliest entry I can find smile

ElephantsAndMiasmas Thu 20-Feb-14 00:54:53

This is wonderful, mine was just full of how annoying my mother was. Think I was too mortified to write about my abiding and powerful love for my friend's older brother who was 18 when I was 11, but who I sincerely hoped was saving himself for me.

KateSMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 20-Feb-14 12:15:40

This thread is highly excellent - so much so that we're going to put it in Classics!

Great stuff! smile

Rhubarbgarden Thu 20-Feb-14 12:26:39

vladthedisorganised Thu 20-Feb-14 12:30:57

Hurray! grin

Cat, did you get a puppy in the end?

AndIFeedEmGunpowder Thu 20-Feb-14 13:38:55

Skill grin

Anniemousse Thu 20-Feb-14 13:42:29

Wow. I'm so proud.
My 12/13 year old self would be mortified

Livelongandprosper Thu 20-Feb-14 13:52:44

This has made me laugh so muchgrin Here's mine:
17 Feb 1972 Late to bed 11 p.m. Maths - Mr Roach in Room 33. Guess who was outside the door when it finished?

No, i can't guess either. I was 15 and there were a few likely candidates, none of whom ever noticed me.

Inspired by this thread, the A5 diary/notebook I ordered has arrived today.

Determined to keep it up and write in it whenever possible.

vladthedisorganised Thu 20-Feb-14 15:31:41

Some more that made me giggle:

March 3rd 1992. Sarah has decided to be a vegetarian. Not sure what she'll eat as she doesn't like vegetables or fruit and she isn't that keen on potatoes or yoghurt.

March 4th 1992. Sarah is still a vegetarian. She won't eat Polo mints either as she said that the machine that stamps holes in them uses whale oil. I don't know whether I believe her but she says she knows it's true.

March 5th 1992. Sarah has decided not to be a vegetarian any more because she was missing eating Frazzles.

grin at the machine using whale oil!

<Who is Sarah?>

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage Thu 20-Feb-14 16:33:20

That reminds me of the time I decided I would be a vegetarian and the next day at work I had a Cornish pasty as I forgot it had meat in grin.

grin at Skill

Yay, it's gone to Classics!

noidles Thu 20-Feb-14 16:42:34

Oh my god! MacBee - I'm in that book! Well, my diaries are in a few chapters. I won't say which, though lest I be outed!

You should also know there's a monthly event in London and it's lots of fun. The facebook group which gives details of when the events are is here:

Also, for those who don't want to buy the book, some of the extracts were here (including one of mine):

Clicky links for the FB group

and the extracts

noidles Thu 20-Feb-14 16:45:40

x posts smile

The best bit was the bath pearls - loved how your 12-year-old self said "I just don't need this" fabulous! grin

March 5th 1992. Sarah has decided not to be a vegetarian any more because she was missing eating Frazzles.

Anniemousse Thu 20-Feb-14 20:11:30

Love it vlad

Thanks HighlanderMam for the classics nomination, now my teenage diary is viewable to all, for all eternity grin Go for it with your diary, looking forward to hearing extracts from it in a year or two.

vlad I did get the puppy, form the RSPCA, he had come in with his 2 brothers and his mum who was a long haired black mongrel
He turned out to be very similar looking to a sheltie, he was my first dog, and I trained him to do loads. He died in 2007 aged 17

BookABooSue Thu 20-Feb-14 21:20:50

Thanks for sharing everyone. This thread has had me crying with laughter grin.

I kept diaries from the age of 7 till my late teens (I had no life!). They're all in a box somewhere. I'll need to dig them out. I remember a lot of poetry and angst blush but this thread has made me realise childish angst can actually be quite funny in retrospect like the bath pearls trauma!

ok found some much older ones

May 30th 1982
Horrid day everything went wrong and when it didnt it was boring grin

Anniemousse Thu 20-Feb-14 21:50:08

17th May 1978

Took wooly ladybird to school confused
made sweets for May Fair

10th Jan 1978

Feb 9th 1980

(I was obviously easily pleased!)

April 26th 1981

Dad had idea

SebbysMum Thu 20-Feb-14 22:28:39

Never before have I read something so like my own diaries. I am the same age as you, kept a diary every day for at least 6 years (actually 2 diaries - one for day to day recording like yours and one reserved for longer angst, naval gazing and boy hit lists). Like you I also went through a phase of church youth groups. I remember my diaries being a curious mixture of extreme innocence and distinctly less innocent love troubles. Obviously over the 6 year period the balance tips towards the later. My first diary entry in my longer diary was a careful ranking if my cousins in order of preference so obviously top secret hence the first page warning:

"If this book should tend to roam, smack its bum and send it home to..."

SebbysMum Thu 20-Feb-14 22:36:36

I was recently given a huge stack of letters I wrote as a child/teen with some cracking lines. In one thank you letter I start with the usual thanks for the gift but before moving on to general life news include a short paragraph unrelated to any other part of the letter which simply reads "Dad says he would rather be married to mum than princess Di"

Thank you for making me cry with laughter this evening

Anniemousse Thu 20-Feb-14 23:54:03

flowers for this Sebbysmummy

"Never before have I read something so like my own diaries"

And to everyone else who has said similar.

At the age I was writing these I felt so different to everyone else. Not in a good way: odd, abnormal, lonely. No-one could possibly understand my unique circumstances and feelings. Age, maturity, reflection and now, all of you, have shown that actually, I was very, very typical.

I would not be a teenager again for anything.

DontWannaBeObamasElf Fri 21-Feb-14 15:17:53

This is great! I turned 3 in 91.

I'm afraid my efforts are minimal. I got a diary when I was 7.

January 1 1996

I'm going to write in you everyday.

That was it.

I might start one for BabyElf though.

MacBee Fri 21-Feb-14 17:04:12

noidles you are? That's amazing! I wish you would say who you were, but I totally understand not wanting to be outed. I read it every now and again for a giggle. Everyone thinks they're alone when they're a teenager, but we all go through the same serious-but-actually-hilarious stuff. And thankfully some of us don't mind sharing it grin

TheUnstoppableWindmill Fri 21-Feb-14 18:22:50

Am only half way through this glorious glorious fred but just wanted to say that a friend found a copy if The Jason Donovan Game in a charity shop recently and it is amazing. Sample question: "Is Jason in favour of nuclear disarmament?" (Yes, that's a real one...)
(I was 11 in 91 and too busy writing cringeworthy stories to keep a diary)

Inlovewith2014 Fri 21-Feb-14 20:00:07

Love this just reminiscing

CornishYarg Sat 22-Feb-14 09:25:27

Loving this thread too. I was also 12 in 1991 and have just had a good laugh reading through January's entries. I noted I was "dead scared" when the war broke out (I definitely remember stealing that exact phrase from Adrian Mole!) and then promptly forgot about it.

Paintyfingers Sat 22-Feb-14 09:30:01

Great thread - now going to read it all..

Anniemousse Sat 22-Feb-14 14:22:40

Downloaded 'Cringe" on kindle from Amazon £3.39 smile

Anniecarrieson Sat 22-Feb-14 14:48:15

New name for me!

I've got Cringe coming in the post!

Chocchip88 Mon 24-Feb-14 14:06:06

Annie I found my from 1991. You'll be pleased to know I also watched Spacecamp! I had no dreams of having the first baby in space though. I wasn't as skill as you!

I have started reading the copy of Cringe I ordered, it arrived the other day. Great read.

KeepCalmAndStopCringing Thu 17-Apr-14 13:06:37

Bahahahaha this thread is brilliant, love it! grin
I'm actually CRYING at that poem. magnified by glasses. Genius!
I've got loads of diaries filled with shite from between approx 1990 to 1996. Was 13 in 1990. I now feel the urge to post my own little gems. Just had a quick look through, and OMG, it's embarrassing lol.
Everyone else has such succinct, little entries though. I waffle on and have pages full of drivel! blush
Oh, and I'm a regular but have namechanged for this thread. grin

KeepCalmAndStopCringing Fri 18-Apr-14 00:13:31

April, 1992.
"Didn't do anything interesting today. Just watched videos and read my Just Seventeen magazine, that kind of thing."

Yup. That really wasn't interesting, lol. Will try to find more. grin
