I am not sure if this is the right place for this but my mum (EMIN) had asked us to keep her mumsnet friends updated on her cancer battle.

I have already posted on the 'cancer' thread but wanted to make sure I had done what she wanted.

Mum - wife, mother of three, foster mother to over 80 children and grandmother of one - passed away peacefully in her sleep at 2:50 this morning. We were all with her, holding her hand and telling her we loved her.

Yesterday all of her family came to visit and they spent time with her, each of them getting their private time to talk to her and just be there with her and for her.

All she had ever wanted was to be at home with her family around her and she got exactly what she wanted. She will be missed so very much and we are devastated that she was taken so early.

She loved to read threads on fostering as babies were her life. She lurked a fair bit and would just offer words of guidance, comfort or encouragement where she felt she could help. In later months as she fought cancer she concentrated more on the cancer thread and I know it gave her some comfort.

She would have been 60 in October and we are devastated she never got to have her big family party but we get some comfort from the fact that all of her loved ones were with her yesterday.

I don't know how many people she communicated with outside of the boards or if any crossedover to real life but if anyone is interested in coming to the funeral once it is arranged then by all means drop me a private message and I can pass on the details.

I read some of your mum's posts on Mumsnet and she was truly a wonderful, warm and giving person

my deepest condolences to you and you family

So sorry for your loss, DOE. I saw Emins last thread so knew time was short for her. I didn't know her other threads and posts, but was struck by her composure facing the end. I hope the kind suggestions about her funeral songs, made by the many who knew her better will be a comfort to you.

My condolences to you and your family.

I'm so sorry. Your mum always sounded so warm and loving in her posts on here.

So sorry to read that your time with your lovely mum has been ended so soon sad

She leaves a wonderful legacy as you have been as kind as she was, even at this devastating time, in keeping us updated.

Whenever I read her posts, I was struck by her warmth and the gift of giving from the heart, both to her own family and to those in need of one.

If mumsnet is not usually a place you're found in, I hope you feel able to accept comfort and support here. Your mum always gave as much of that as she could, and was able to draw on it when needed. It may turn out to be yet another gift from her to you flowers

lovesmileandlaugh Wed 04-Sep-13 06:21:20

Oh I am so so sorry, this news has made me cry this morning. I didn't know your Mum, but her fostering stories took us into our fostering journey, and through any doubts. Through my tears, I am looking at my tiny newborn foster baby in the cot next to me. Thank you EMIN from both of us and wishing your amazing family so much love xxx

Thank you so much for letting us know even in your grief. She was a shining example of the good of Mumsnet as she selflessly gave so much. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I never posted on your mum's threads, but often read them. I, as others were, was in awe of her incredible love, patience, compassion and humour in the face of some difficult situations with her foster children. I'm so sorry to hear of her death. Your message reminds us all of the incredible mark she has left on the lives of so many people. I will be thinking of you and your family and friends.

Oh my goodness. I had no idea that EMIN was so terribly ill. sad

Her thread about fostering that poor drug addicted baby was the most moving thing I have read on here (well, anywhere actually). The way That dear baby was cherished and then handed over to the adoptive parents. What an absolutely marvellous thing to have done.

I am so, so sorry that you have lost your mother at such a young age. I have no idea how hard it must be for you and your family at this time. It may be a very small comfort but your mother deeply touched the hearts of a great number of complete strangers.

I am going to link to Emin's thread about caring for the drug dependent baby. It is one of the most inspirational threads that you will read on MN. She was so kind and giving to the babies she fostered and to the new parents who eventually ended up adopting these children. She was also incredibly compassionate and non-judgemental towards the birth mothers.

RIP Emin.

HappySunflower Wed 04-Sep-13 10:26:45

Oh no, what a shock!

It must be so devastating for you all to have lost her so soon.
She packed more love, warmth, and giving into her almost 60 years than most people do in 100.

She was so very, very proud of her wonderful family, and the many children who have been part of your loves over the years. Yet, she was so modest about her input into people's lives. Mumsnet has been so much richer because of her being here. She will be much missed.

Much love to you and the rest of your family.

mouseymummy Wed 04-Sep-13 10:31:08

Oh no sad

I'm so very very sorry to hear this but I'm glad her last moments were how she wanted.

It was your mums thread on the baby with addiction issues that made me join mumsnet.

I really hope that you can all take peace from knowing how loved your mum was and how many lives she has helped shape for the better.

So very sad to hear this. As other's have said EMIN was a huge inspiration and helped so many children.

It is comforting to know she was with her loving family as she would have wanted.

EMIN will be missed by so many on mumsnet.

DaughterofEMIN - I read your mum's thread as she worked with the baby born addicted. Her efforts were incredible and her strength and love so immense. There can be few people who've given so much and helped so much. May she rest in peace and may you all find comfort in your loss.

We used to chat quite a bit & had some good laughs, I used to tell her that her name was wrong! smile

She was an amazing woman, truely amazing (but you know that!!) and I hope just knowing how many lives she touched gives you some comfort and best of all, knowing she was your Mum x

It is so wrong for her to be gone so soon, she was far far too young and far far too good. I lost my Dad a few years ago, he was too young as well (even though I'm a lot older than you) and it is really really hard. We are all here for you at any time you want to talk or just join in the general chat for a bit of a distraction. (You might even already be here under another name, I don't know).

Can you please let me know when her funeral will take place, I'd like to have a quiet few minutes thinking about her at the same time.

Lots of love
xxx

Very sad

DaughterofEMIN I hope you do take some comfort from the strength of feeling and admiration of everyone here.

I read the "Baby Withdrawing" thread and the bit that was sad I found was the post about changing her bedding when she'd gone to her new home.
And smile at the little shoes and her DH trudging off to the Post Office again.

Her devotion will have shapes so many lives for the better.

My condolences to you and your family DaughterofEMIN. I first came across your mum when she posted in the wee small hours, hugging a tiny crack-addicted newborn and asking for advice. It was obvious from that one thread that she was an amazing person with a huge heart. Life is so unfair to take people like your mum first, but she must have packed more into her life than most. RIP EMIN.

So sorry for your loss, so very glad she was at home, surrounded by love when she passed.

Your mum came across as such an amazing and inspiring person in her threads.
The world is a better place because of her.

Is there a charity she loved that I/we can make a donation to in her memory?

This is such sad news, she sounded like she had a beautiful soul, and a caring heart. She has left a wonderful legacy here in her family and her fostering work.

RIP.

I read a few of EMIN's threads, the one that sticks is the one where she was fostering a baby born to an addict. She was an amazing woman.

NomDeClavier Wed 04-Sep-13 14:02:04

I'm so sorry sad I read a few of your mother's posts about the drug dependant baby and she was always warm, patient and kind in what must have been such a tough situation. She made a real difference, not just to that baby but also to me when I had a challenging but perfectly healthy baby. I felt that if she could do it under such extreme circumstances and remain so together then I could cope too.

I'm so, so sorry to read this news. Your mum was a fantastic lady who helped me personally both on here and through email as we were both fostering babies with drug addictions at the same time.

I still often think of funny phrases she passed on when I'm having a tough day with a poorly baby, and I use a version of her "goodbye" letter which she helped me draft whenever I move a child on to a new home.

If you get chance please can you post details of the date of her funeral? I'd like to raise a mug of wine to her!

I remember the thread about caring for the baby who had been exposed to heroin. It really struck a chord with me as my adopted DD was also born drug dependent and her wonderful foster carer went through a really difficult time with her.

My DD is now a lovely happy five year old with no ongoing problems thanks to the wonderful care her foster mother gave her during her first year.

Your Mum has made a huge difference to the lives of so many babies and will always be a special person to them.

DaughterOfEmin Wed 04-Sep-13 22:23:08

I just came on here tonight to say a quick thanks to the girls on the cancer thread for the wonderful and absolutely gorgeous flowers they sent us - mum would have just loved them.

I was amazed to find my inbox full of messages for mum and to see all of the many messages on this thread and on the cancer thread for her.

I told my younger sister and my dad and they were also both amazed and so very touched by the fact that so many people thought to leave some kind words for her and for us and it really does bring us a measure of comfort at this painfully sad time.

EMIN would have been both touched and so proud that you thought of her. She has left such a huge hole in our lives and to be honest we keep expecting to see her any moment. It doesn't seem real or fair but I suppose we could all say that during our darkest days and we now need to concentrate on keeping our family strong and her memory alive. She will always be with us.

What I really just wanted to say was thank you on behalf of the family xx

I'm so very sorry, I will think of you tomorrow and of EMIN and all the good she did. I remember how hard it was for her to carry on fostering after a baby left, how she made memory books and gave the baby to their new parents with love, and kept her sadness (and frequent frustration with social services) out of it all. EMIN was an inspirational woman. I am sorry for your sad, sad loss.

DownstairsMixUp Wed 11-Sep-13 20:37:50

I shred a tear (or two) reading the thread about the drug dependant baby. She sounds like an amazing woman. RIP EMIN.

Daughterofemin and family, condolences on your sad loss.

I am yet another who owes my becoming a fostercarer to Emin's amazing encouragement on the fostering message board here on mumsnet. Thank you EMIN, rest in peace.

RebeccaMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Sep-13 10:16:25

Hi all and lovely Daughterofemin,

We received this mail from DaughterofEmin and we wanted to share it with you all because it is so lovely and credit to your support on this thread, elsewhere and in RL.

She wrote:

'Dear Mumsnet

'I recently posted on the Tamoxifen thread as well as an independent thread regarding the recent passing of my mum, Earthmotherimnot (EMIN).

'She had asked me to update her Mumsnet friends once she realised that the end was very near and wanting to do her proud, I did exactly that.

'However, I did not expect the response I got! I have been sharing with the family all of the wonderful messages that have been posted for mum, such beautiful and kind words to help comfort us as we grieve for the loss of our amazing mum.

'Every time I check on Mumsnet I am more astounded by what I find and we wanted to say thank you so much, moving her thread about the drug addicted baby into classic conversations and linking to it from Twitter is just fantastic. It just helps keep her spirit alive a little longer.

'Babies were her life and she would have been so proud that she managed to touch the hearts of so many people with her simple words.

'My poor father is distraught at losing his beloved wife but he has asked me to express his thanks as well.

'The posters on Mumsnet have been marvellous with sending gorgeous flowers and a handmade card which we will treasure forever.

'So again, thank you so very much.'

Sending much love to all of Emin's family from all of us here at MNHQ.

We will be moving this thread to Classics now because we don't want all of the lovely words to disappear.

YoniMatopoeia Mon 16-Sep-13 10:20:45

Aww. What a lovely letter. Thanks for sharing Rebecca

topsyturner Mon 16-Sep-13 10:21:09

Thank you for sharing this Rebecca
We miss EMIN hugely over on the tamoxifen threads .

KurriKurri Mon 16-Sep-13 10:57:54

Thank you for sharing Rebecca - EMIN was a truly remarkable woman in so many ways - her dignity and courage as she dealt with her illness was an inspiration, - she is very much missed by us on the Tamoxifen thread and by her many mumsnet friends.

And DaughterofEmin - you have been so thoughtful and kind to update us all when you are going through such heartbreak. Much love to you and your family, special thoughts for your dear dad at such a difficult time xx

That's lovely, EMIN was truly a special woman, her thread moved me so much last year, I thought of her often after she let us know she had cancer, she sounded as though she was full of warmth, and joy.

I so pleased this has been moved to classics, a lovely tribute to a classic woman.

Thank you Rebecca for sharing.

DaughterofEMIN your family and your wonderful mother are still very much in our thoughts, she has left a hole in the "Tamoxigang" too but nothing compared to the hole left in your family. So many posters remember her threads and she has inspired and supported lots of people on here, so I don't think she will ever be forgotten. Thank you for taking the time to update us. Much love to you all x

MutantAndProud Mon 16-Sep-13 18:01:29

DaughterofEmin, all my love and thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Your mum was clearly a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul xxxxxxxxxx

HopLittleFroggiesHopSkipJump Sun 29-Sep-13 23:40:03

RIP, your mum was truly an amazing person, I read one of her threads on fostering months back and instantly recognised the name as it stuck with me due to what an amazing person she was. She seemed so selfless and caring, it's unbelievable that one person has managed to do so much good, for so many people.

You have so much to be proud of her for, she was taken early but she has achieved so much more than many do in a long long life.

CurlyLikesShortShorts Mon 30-Sep-13 21:40:19

I'm so sad to hear about the lovely Emin and for your loss DaughterOfEmin sad I so desperately wanted her to be okay. I hope that you and your family continue to find strength in the outpouring of love for her. She lives on in all of our hearts and when I start fostering I shall be looking to your mum for advice. Thank you mumsnet for keeping Emin with us.

Rest in peace wonderful lady. The world is a better place for having had you in it xxx

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl
Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d'aghaidh
Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna
Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís,
Go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú.
