A plea for help in finding this Maileg Mouse!

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 20:38:42

I can't bear it any longer!
DD7 lost her dear, much loved Maileg Mouse on our camping trip last year in France. She broke her heart and even tonight, we had some tears (she's also tired and strung out with tonsillitis, so very much run down). I've attempted many times to find a replacement online but no luck. They do still sell them, but with varying themes and styles.

DD's mouse looks very much like this one, but a browny mouse with brown/faun clothes instead of pink. I've searched everywhere and my only hope really is ebay so I keep checking. The other hope is that someone out there has one that's sitting and not really adored, and is willing to sell it to me!

HotCrossFRIGG Tue 26-Mar-13 20:46:50

I think you forgot to add a link smile

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 21:51:35

Ah bugger. Bloody lost the page now. Off to find it again. Shit head that I am.

<sigh>

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 21:53:22

Fluke! Found it. It's the brown mouse. It's actually quite similar to Matilda the Mouse we lost. So ignore the pink one.

SarahStratton Tue 26-Mar-13 21:56:57

I adore Maileg, that mouse is gorgeous.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:06:16

Adore is the word, Sarah. DD's little Matilda was such a part of our family.
I've been searching now for nearly a year with no luck.

I wouldn't really pursue it, but DD asks for NOTHING. Seriously. She's 8 this year and doesn't seem to be caught up with iToys/computers/glittery shoes and the like. She's a geek (a very adorable one) and she had this little mouse clutched in her hand almost constantly. Gawd knows what happened, but she misses her so.

<getting emotional now>

Valpollicella Tue 26-Mar-13 22:09:24

Oh bugger bugger bugger. Got a bit teary for her then.

Have you emailed the Mouse in A Box people? They might be able to help/have old stock/one sitting one someone's desk?

Happy to do it for you!

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:09:48

mainly because I've just glugged a strong G&T

Valpollicella Tue 26-Mar-13 22:10:08
LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:14:39

Really? Would you? Valpollicella thank you - that's so kind.
I'm running out of ideas...

I've got this romantic idea of getting hold of replacement Matilda and putting them in a little tree in the campsite where we're staying again, this year. Either that, or popping Matilda2 in an envelope with a little label tied around her leg stating, 'Return to Loving Owner'.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:16:16

putting Matilda, not them. Certainly not my DD.

Shit. Too strong a G&T, Can't bloody type.

Valpollicella Tue 26-Mar-13 22:17:54

Of course! Shall do it first thing tomorrow. I can't bear the idea of your sad dd sans her mouse sad

Maggie111 Tue 26-Mar-13 22:19:52
Maggie111 Tue 26-Mar-13 22:21:10

Oh no! Sold out!!! sad

blush

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:21:41

Maggie - yes that's the one!

But it's sold out. SHITSHITSHIT

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:30:06

Maggie no need to blush. Am truly thankful that you took the time to look. Sending you much thanks. x

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:32:47

Val - thank you again.
Thank you.

SuburbanRhonda Tue 26-Mar-13 22:37:05

Found loads on eBay under soft toys and animals.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:38:26

Really Rhonda?!
I've always entered Maileg Mouse into the search box - am I being too specific? What did you enter? Dare I get excited...

MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 22:38:51

I've seen some of these in a shop near where I work so I'll look tomorrow lunchtime. Probably won't have one but you never know.

Beamur Tue 26-Mar-13 22:42:45

www.theoldtreehouse.co.uk/
This shop near me stocks them too - might be worth asking if they have the specific one you want? If they don't post it, but could do you a sale over the phone, I could post it to you if you PM's me your address.

SuburbanRhonda Tue 26-Mar-13 22:43:34

I went to Toys and Games, then Soft Toys and Animals, then just typed Maileg Mouse in the search box. I'd send you the link, but it's on my iPad, so no link. The ones I'm looking at right now are the girl ones with red hats, there are two, one is £14.95 buy it now + £1 p&p, the other is £13.95 buy it now +£2.70 p&p. Go, go, go!

MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 22:46:11

She's after a specific brown mouse, Rhonda, not just any one unfortunately sad

Or at least I can't find the right one on eBay either.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:48:06

Rhonda - I think they're not quite the same. I won't be able to fool DD sad
Thanks ever so much for helping though. I really appreciate it.

SuburbanRhonda Tue 26-Mar-13 22:48:21

Oh, sorry, I was looking for the one in the link, with the little red hat. I was getting excited myself then sad.

SuburbanRhonda Tue 26-Mar-13 22:48:50

Not as easy as replacing a hamster, then.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:49:01

Beamur and Hamster, if you do happen to get a spare minute, I will be forever in your debt.

Liveinthepresent Tue 26-Mar-13 22:50:14

You could try emailing these people
http://www.cloudberryhill.co.uk/gifts/for_children/25-to-50/

There are none on the website - but I am sure I have seen them - and they have a little shop in Hampshire so might still have one somewhere...
Bit of a long shot!

MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 22:51:31

I lost a pound puppy toy dog on my sixth birthday and the feeling of letting the poor little thing down still feels quite raw! So would like to help if at all possible.

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:52:32

I've been plodding along quietly all year, looking for a replacement. Am stepping it up a gear tonight after, when tucking DD up in bed, she whispers tearfully "I'm really worried about Matilda. I'm scared she's frightened and alone".

It drove me to a G&T and to my laptop, straight away. sad

trixymalixy Tue 26-Mar-13 22:53:05

The little baby company have maleig mouses.

mousebacon Tue 26-Mar-13 22:53:33

There's a shop near me that sells these too. I can't get there till the weekend but am happy to check for you.

There's also a shop in York called wild heart that sells loads of maileg stuff if you're anywhere near?

LittleEsme Tue 26-Mar-13 22:53:56

Thank you EVERYONE. I'll be emailing all your suggestions tomorrow.
There's always hope. I'm so grateful for your suggestions.

ClumsyClumberson Tue 26-Mar-13 22:55:35

I saw mice like these in a shop where my mum lives on the weekend. As I'm not sure which mouse it is their number is 01873 810370. I'm sure they'd post out to you or if not I could pick one up next Tuesday when im next there and send on to you.

MissEleanorLavish Tue 26-Mar-13 22:56:07

Oh no! There's a shop near me that sells these too - will try & pop in tomorrow and check.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 26-Mar-13 22:58:08

There's a brown one here I think.

Could you get a brown one, and a new outfit, and he's been on an adventure?

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 22:59:30

[[http://www.llewelynandcompany.com/ ]] brown one here is this the right one?

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 22:59:52

Sorry link fail

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 23:04:57
MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 23:05:20

They don't seem to make the brown mice any more which is rather annoying.

The closest I could find was this little boy mouse. Is there anyway you could make him a dress?

Maggie111 Tue 26-Mar-13 23:11:43

Cor Ginger - I think you might have found one!!

www.llewelynandcompany.com/maileg-baby-mice-in-matchbox.html

But well done to those finding brown boy mice... I looked for fricking ages and couldn't find a single brown one for sale!

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 23:13:16

If you search on that website for maileg mouse in a box there's a little brown girl for 14.95 am on phone and my linkage isn't working

They sell similar mice at this store, so have tweeted them to ask.

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 23:14:40

I hope so Maggie thank you for sorting my link btw smile

cross-post!

MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 23:17:14

Oh let's hope OP gets to buy it quick - well done ginger!

chartreuse Tue 26-Mar-13 23:19:01

Oh I hope that's the one OP, I am worrying about Matilda too sad

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 23:19:22

I hope she sees this tonight am stupidly excited now blush

Angelico Tue 26-Mar-13 23:25:52

I have just PMed OP to tell her someone found the mouse!!! blush

Love MN smile

MysteriousHamster Tue 26-Mar-13 23:29:31

I PMed her too :D

Bet she's in bed - need an update! Am I a bit tragic to be a bit teary thinking about her DD getting her back? It's not my fault, DH has been away for four days and feeling a bit pre-menstrual smile

gingerchick Tue 26-Mar-13 23:31:14

I must be too am actually in tears am in no way pre menstrual but OP and her little girl sound so lovely I really hope she gets her little mouse

woopsidaisy Tue 26-Mar-13 23:32:35

Maybe if we all shout her name at the same time...?

Well done ginger!

HotCrossFRIGG Wed 27-Mar-13 00:16:16

Oh yeahy!
I hope it's the right one! Looks like it though...grin

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 07:49:52

Just picked this up - am in the car sitting in hideous traffic. Will check first thing in work. Excited now!

They're in stock they're in stock!!!! Do you need one of us to order to make sure you get one?

gingerchick Wed 27-Mar-13 07:58:32

Crossing fingers big time OP

gingerchick Wed 27-Mar-13 08:52:31

I'm very sorry for getting your hopes up OP sad

MysteriousHamster Wed 27-Mar-13 08:53:12

Looks like the brown mice aren't made any more, or at least not in any recent line-ups so it might be worth getting it anyway and saying she's got a new dress?

Maggie111 Wed 27-Mar-13 09:40:26

It's the same as the one you posted in your original pic. I really don't think you'll find better.

lisad123everybodydancenow Wed 27-Mar-13 10:00:19

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Beamur Wed 27-Mar-13 12:35:03

If you can't find quite the identical mouse - get a copy of this book too!
Tatty Ratty by Helen Cooper - an excellent book to smooth over the introduction of a replacement favourite toy.

chartreuse Wed 27-Mar-13 12:57:08

In what way is it different OP? I'm sure you could come up with a plausible reason for the slight change in appearance. We had to replace a toy kitten that ds2 lost while on holiday. it took me months to find one and it was a slightly lighter colour, but we got away with it by saying the kitten had been through the wash a few times before finding his way back to us. Ds, now nearly 13 still thinks the toy got caught up in the hotel laundry and still talks about how kind the hotel staff were to send it back to us. I haven't the heart to tell him what really happened!

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 14:11:47

Bare with me, you fantastic lot. I've been teaching back to back all day and No breaks because I've been helping my Year 11's out.

Back v soon to say the biggest of thanks xxx

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 14:48:55

Just remembered (am waiting for my next Y11 to tape so a brief minute to write this).

There's a pic of Matilda in France last year. I'll have a loom tonight and will try and upload it.

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 20:46:42

Sorry sorry sorry!
Only now getting onto my laptop - had a rather unexpected trip to A&E today.
I've cross referenced the original Matilda and this new one Ginger has found. It's not exact but..... VERY close. Top is gingham instead of stripes - hang on - will upload pic in a sec.

MysteriousHamster Wed 27-Mar-13 21:23:25

Are you going to buy it, that's the big question - doesn't look like there are any others out there!

I went to my local shop today but they only had pale mice. I did buy one for my son though smile

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 21:28:08

I want to name every single person on this thread for all your help and support on this but the list is so long. I'm overwhelmed actually.

ginger your research skills are fantastic. I've ordered the little brown mouse tonight. It's not identical - take a look at the pic I've put on my profile (first time ever I've done that...<is proud> lol). But it's VERY, VERY close.

What do you all think??

Those of you that twittered, and emailed, and offered to go into shops... what can I say. If I were to ever meet you in RL, I'd buy you a cuppa. I feel very humbled.

DD is going to be so happy. I'm feeling teary thinking about her face.

My next question is this: How will I sort this? I was tempted to wait til we got to France and pop the mouse in a tree on our pitch and wait for DD to find her (she's a tree climber), but she's so fragile at the moment (for other reasons), I don't really want her to wait that long.

Was thinking of posting her to us and tie a label to her leg with a little message. Power of MN! Help me?!?

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 21:30:14

Haha Hamster! They're so gorgeous! I hope he enjoys the litle Mouse.

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 21:31:16

How do I show you my pics?!

MysteriousHamster Wed 27-Mar-13 21:52:12

Oh I see what you mean (I can see the pic), they've reversed the stripes and gingham but hopefully she won't notice. The little boy one we found does have a gingham top so maybe keep hold of the link but obviously he's missing a skirt!

It sounds like your DD could do with having her little mouse back with her now - I would make her arrive in the post with a message like you say. But maybe not actually post it as you don't want to risk her going missing again.

Please update us when she arrives smile

HazeltheMcWitch Wed 27-Mar-13 21:57:13

Hurrah, you have ordered her!!

OK, some ideas for the 'finding':

- depending on her arrival date, you could put her inside ane aster egg? You can get moulds a plenty, or maybe somewhere like Thornton's mould them in-house?
- any loose teeth at the mo? The Tooth Fairy could find her and bring her back.
- you mention that DD's fragile at the mo... Mouse could have been away having adventures (in France etc*), but wanted to come back and comfort her/congratulate her for being strong, etc etc

* am sure that some postcards could be sent from afar. They're late as they were stuck in the post.

trixymalixy Wed 27-Mar-13 22:01:20

They are lovely. I'm going to order one for DD.

Could you make up a story about what happened to Matilda and have something happen to her dress so she has to wear her spare almost identical but reversed dress?

HazeltheMcWitch Wed 27-Mar-13 22:02:07

Can she be up a tree in the garden?
You can 'spot it' from afar - 'oh, what's that in the tree, DD...?'

Valpollicella Wed 27-Mar-13 22:29:26

Oh this has made me SO happy grin

I say plant Matilda in a tree somewhere and get her to find her grin

<squelas> I NEVER squeal

ps had no reply to my email as yet, but will let you know if I do!

Valpollicella Wed 27-Mar-13 22:30:31

Actually....have you a spare board that could pass for a fake skirting board? Could you do a fakemouse hole <overthinks>

BeaWheesht Wed 27-Mar-13 22:48:30

You could ask various MNers (me for one) to send your dd postcards from Matilda's new friends that she met on her journey home. One could mention the new outfit!!?

In terms of when she first gets Matilda I think if just place her on the doorstep one morning and get a kindly neighbour to ring the bell and run away smile I'd put a wee sign round her neck saying 'looking for 'dd's name'

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 22:49:07

Aaahh you lot grinsmile
So many fantastic ideas!
<drums fingers and thinks>

DD is such a logic-geek so a little parcel from 'France' seems a good one. She'll accept.

I wonder what I can write...something short and sweet

"Matilda Mouse has had a lovely time here in France but missed LittleEsme's Little girl so much so she wanted to come home. "

?

MonaLotte Wed 27-Mar-13 22:50:54

What a lovely thread. So glad you found another mouse for your dd smile

Horsemad Wed 27-Mar-13 22:53:06

I've read this and now have something in my eye...

Your DD is going to be sooo happy LittleEsme

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 22:58:51

Bea - you're idea is excellent.

<weeps with the thought of it>

That's what I'm going to do!

TimrousBeastie Wed 27-Mar-13 23:00:26

you could take some inspiration from a thread last year (the caterpillar one-can't remember its name) and have a fb page set up detailing new mouses arrivalsmile

LittleEsme Wed 27-Mar-13 23:04:27

Mona and HorseMad

Thanks! Me too! I seem to have a rather large lump in my throat since starting this.

She's going to be so happy, she really is. And I know I'm biased, but she really doesn't have much in terms of 'stuff'.

She's sensitive about things at the moment, and without outing myself, has realised that she cannot trust some of her 'friends' to not hurt her. Having her little Mouse back in her arms will be lovely for her.

gingerchick Wed 27-Mar-13 23:17:47

Am so glad your little girl will be getting her little mouse friend, you have made my day I'm so happy for you because you are
Obviously a really lovely mum to a really lovely daughter

BeaWheesht Wed 27-Mar-13 23:23:54

Can I send a postcard????

Oh oh oh, you could write a mini mouse diary that details what she's been up to since she went missing in France and how she got her new outfit. Then put it in the box with the replacement.

You are a lovely Mummy btw.

LittleEsme Thu 28-Mar-13 06:18:59

ginger, what a lovely thing to say. I happen to think that like minded individuals who are drawn to this thread, like you and the others, are cut from the same cloth. Kind and caring. smile

Thank you. A heartfelt one at that smile

LittleEsme Thu 28-Mar-13 06:19:59

Bea - really? Fantastic! Thanks! Hmmm now do we send it before little Mouse arrives? After?!?

LittleEsme Thu 28-Mar-13 06:27:30

Dumdee smile
Ah shucks, clearly everyone, yourself included would do the same for your DC.

MissEleanorLavish Thu 28-Mar-13 19:30:20

Could you make a mini mouse passport & ticket and tuck it in her box - as though she's made a long journey home? And love the idea of postcards from friends she's made along the way. Hurrah for the power of MN - I hope her little mouse returning helps your DD - she's got a lovely mummy too!

BeaWheesht Thu 28-Mar-13 20:03:54

After I think. Will gladly send one. Pm me.

Kazooblue Thu 28-Mar-13 20:07:33

BeaWheesht Thu 28-Mar-13 20:10:23

spiderlight Thu 28-Mar-13 20:15:45

I am in tears here. So, so glad you've found a mouse. What a lovely mummy you are! Please report back to let us know her reaction.

LittleEsme Thu 28-Mar-13 20:54:44

I will! I will! I'm so excited now - little Mouse could arrive at any time!
I'll PM those that have offered to send a post card. How fantastic you lot are.

If there's anything. Anything that I can do for any of you Mum's to keep the magic alive, then call. I shall help!

MysteriousHamster Thu 28-Mar-13 21:44:51

I could send a pic of my son's mouse waving hello to your daughter's and send it?

UPDATE:

Little Mouse has still not arrived! sad
I'm waiting for the company to call back now as I type this - only occurred to me this morning that we're still waiting. DD3 has been in the throes of sickness and diarrhea for days now so life has taken a bit of a stop - I'd forgotten everything til now!

I'm going to have to speak sternly I think - I ordered this on the 27th March!

MysteriousHamster Fri 05-Apr-13 18:40:36

I wonder if they don't have it after all sad

If they don't, do consider getting one of the little boys with the same colourways, I'm sure someone here could help with a skirt. Ring them and shout when you get a moment!

mayaswell Fri 05-Apr-13 18:50:57

Have you tried Maileg.dk in Denmark? They make them!
The importer (and wholesaler) in the UK is scandi chic in Berkshire, they have public barn sales which you can go along to, and uncover treasure from their old stock.

LittleEsme Sat 13-Apr-13 20:09:42

Update:

Still no Mouse, BUT today, thanks to someone (PLEASE tell me who sorted this), a post card arrived from Little Mouse from Canada. It said that she'd spent her Winter playing with the baby polar bears and was missing my DD very much.

I'm assured by the company that Mouse is definitely going to arrive so...

...I sent DD to get the post today from the porch (post-card planted nicely amongst the letters) and she spotted the card straight away.

Honestly, it was something out of a film. She sat absent-mindedly at the kitchen table, reading the card, and I saw her jaw drop. I asked her to read it out and she filled up with tears. Huge grin.

This is the stuff of dreams. I cannot thank you enough. Please let me know who you are. My little girl has gone to bed, clutching the post-card and grinning.

Horsemad Sat 13-Apr-13 20:49:43

Can't take the credit for the post card but that's got me all choked up. So sweet smile

Awwwwwwwwwww that's lovely, if you PM me your address I'll send her one from Cambrdge saying she's just got off the ferry from Holland and is on her way back as fast as she can.

LittleEsme Sat 13-Apr-13 21:08:04

Thanks. I'm still choked every time I think of it.
It was a magical moment, it really was.

BlackStiltonBoots Sat 13-Apr-13 21:11:27

Aww, how lovely. I hope your DD's mouse arrives really soon, the look on her face will be priceless!

This is such a heartwarming thread smile.

I'd offer postcard services but I seriously doubt Matilda would take a detour through West Yorkshire! wink

LittleEsme Sat 13-Apr-13 21:16:46

Haha Black grin

Jestrin Sat 13-Apr-13 21:48:01

Oh what a lovely thread this has been to read. I really really hope Matilda Mouse arrives very soon!

Another Update:

DD has now received a post-card from Canada and Hungary.

Another two have arrived, one from Sydney and another from Cambridge. Both of which I'm hiding so that I can drip-feed them to her to hopefully buy myself more time until little Mouse arrives.

On a positive note, I telephoned the owners of Llewelyn and Co and a really, really nice man called back. I explained my plight and he said he's personally going to re tell my story to Maileg Denmark and try his best to hunt one down. ALSO, I've emailed loads of Maileg's from around the world, and within the hour, I've had a reply from Denmark asking for my address!!

Dare I hope?!? I've sent it along with the insistence that I pay for postage and mouse.

<fingers crossed>

SilverBirdie Fri 19-Apr-13 22:16:29

I have been checking in on this to find out the reaction when your DD got her mouse. So sorry it's still not arrived.... I thought one was on its way to you??
Please do keep us updated grin
Pm me if you need another postcard but like a previous poster said..... Perhaps Yorkshire isn't the most enthrawling location smile

OrchidFlakes Fri 19-Apr-13 22:26:11

I can own up to Canada and Sydney (my 2 best girlfriends were enlisted!)

I hope the mouse arrives soon xx

LittleEsme Sat 20-Apr-13 21:21:53

OrchidFlakes, thanks and flowers and wine
I'm totally humbled by all this. You Star.
I've hidden the Sydney post card until I can get more news of Mouse's arrival, but you should have seen her face when the Canada postcard arrived. I can't really put it into words. It Was Awesome.

Ooh, thank you for updating! I really hope mousy turns up soon.

Fabia21 Sun 28-Apr-13 21:29:28

Hi there,
I stumbled across your message regarding the matchbox mouse your daughter lost. I have a daughter who has just turned nine so completely understand how much they can love a certain toy, anyway trying not to ramble on, I stock and sell Maileg items and after reading all of the messages I really wanted to help. Now I do hope this will help. After searching through my stock room, I managed to find the following mouse, I often have random mice left that I just keep. Well here is a picture of the mouse I have... Please contact me if this is the mouse design you have been searching for? I have just uploaded the image via the blog for my website, if the link doesn't work below please view it via my website; www.thechiccountryhome.co.uk
http://thechiccountryhomediary.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/a-lost-mouse.html

Fingers crossed it is the mouse you are after as I would love to help.
Warm regards,
Faye

has miss mouse arrived? Very touched by this thread as a similar senario happened to us when DD's mouse when walkabout..... the first time she was located at our local leisure centre after an over night stay in the park. The second time was far graver as we lost her was en route to the dentist..... I all but gave up but approached the local paper (who ran a piece & printed a photo) & also started up a sustained viral facebook on a local site ........amazingly after a full calendar month Mousey returned & was handed into the local newspaper offices stunned anyhow during those long 31 days I actually put thread to fabric & made DD a replacement miss mouse - which she loved & now that the original mousey has returned they are one big happy family. Will happily make one if this would help..... xxx

LittleEsme Thu 02-May-13 22:13:29

Ah Emma how lovely you are.
Fabia21 has been in touch and I believe the parcel is on route to me as we speak. I'm trying to plan Matilda Mouse's return and at the moment, I'm considering popping her on the wall outside our home, propped up by her little suitcase. I'm not sure what goodies to put in the suitcase - perhaps a shell or two (DD is an avid shell and gemstone hoarder) from her 'travells'?

Any ideas on how to stage this home-coming? I am open to ALL suggestions!!

<getting excited now>

LittleEsme Thu 02-May-13 22:26:13

Forgot to add,

I planted the last postcard this evening, the one from Cambridge - thanks Dumdeedumdeedum! DD literally bounced up to bed to add the card to the others that are piling up at the side of her bed.

This means everything to her.

redwellybluewelly Thu 02-May-13 22:37:14

I hope Matilda Mouse is home soon, to be fair what every traveller needs is a sit down in a comfy chair with a cuppa and a piece of cheese or to fall asleep on someone's bed.

Don't leave her on the wall outside, she might get the travel bug all over again!

Fabia21 Thu 02-May-13 22:41:47

The mouse has been dispatched and is on her way via courier. Delivery normally takes between three to five days, so not long now until the happy reunion.
It's a shame little mouse doesn't have a journal of all her adventures, maybe your little girl could then continue adding new adventures that she has with the mouse too.
Will keep an eye on the delivery status and keep you updated :0)

MooseBeTimeForSpring Thu 02-May-13 22:51:42

I've just come across this thread whilst my 16 month old DS has a nap. I've now got tears streaming down my face. I love MN happy endings! So looking forward to hearing about the reunion smile

MooseBeTimeForSpring Thu 02-May-13 22:52:42

Probably ought to stress that I'm in Canada and we're 7 hours behind the UK!

ThisIsMyNameChange Thu 02-May-13 22:55:35

Hooray for Faye!!!! Now that is just wonderful.

Whatever happened about the first mouse you ordered? Did that just not turn up?

cocolepew Thu 02-May-13 23:07:31

What a lovely, lovely thread sobs

LentilAsAnything Thu 02-May-13 23:07:32

LittleEsme Thu 02-May-13 23:09:05

Good point. The gentleman in the shop was lovely, but there's still been no communication. I'll email him over the weekend to say that I need a refund.

I'm in awe of how lovely people are on MN.

OrchidFlakes Fri 03-May-13 22:05:40

Now I hate the bank holiday... More days to wait to heart about the reunion as I doubt delivery will happen ove the holiday grrrrr

MN is a wonderful thing as is Esme for making this happen for her DD xxx

Sayitdontsprayit Fri 03-May-13 23:26:56

<marks place> anxiously waiting for an update! Such a touching story! We need a detailed update of DDs reaction!

2008Emma Sat 04-May-13 13:51:01

maybe you could photoshop her into some travels documenting her journey & pop them all together in a book. Think she certainly needs a passport for sure! I was very concerned when our mouse returned for a months of being awol and DD announced that Miss Mouse was going to go to South Africa soon - GULP!!! xx

Fabia21 Tue 07-May-13 14:13:08

Yippee, I've just checked the order tracking details and its out for delivery today. Fingers crossed new Matilda mouse will be meeting her old friend soon, just wish I was a fly on the wall to see the little girls face when she sees her, that moment will be priceless. I'm just so glad I had saved this mouse, she was obviously destined for this important mission smile.

CajaDeLaMemoria Tue 07-May-13 14:22:02

Cor this got me all emotional, what a lovely thread smile

I hope the reunion happens today, it sounds like it'll mean a lot to your little girl.

Marking my place for news of Mouse reunion. So glad you found her, Faye. I live in dread of one of our much-loved animals getting lost.

Marking my place too whilst wiping my eyes

You are all lovely people. I can't wait to hear how LittleEsme's daughter reacts smile

Me too, Kryptonite - although I have already made very similar mice for my DC. DS's mouse wants cricket whites. Guess what I will be doing tonight grin? [sniff]

LittleEsme Wed 08-May-13 17:35:50

The mouse has arrived after a failed attempt yesterday.

My heart did a flip when the delivery man rolled up.

I'll keep you posted. DH had forbidden me to do anything til he gets home.

<sweaty nervous hands>

LentilAsAnything Wed 08-May-13 17:56:38

LittleEsme Sat 11-May-13 21:16:52

So sorry for the delay! DH's car is a goner after it was rear-ended Wednesday night by a white van man on his mobile phone. The great unveiling was delayed until last night, but it was perfect.

True to her word Fabia21's parcel arrived and when I opened it, it was ...wow... beautiful. Fabia - I had to unwrap it but can I just say that the love and care you put into wrapping that little Mouse left me and DH very close to tears. You and your daughter are magnificent.

I'd bought a little Maileg suitcase, ready for the arrival home, and a tiny nightie which I placed into the case, along with a little shell (DD is a little collector of shells and we spend many a happy afternoon looking for pretty ones on our local beach). Also into the case went a tiny little wooden rabbit that Fabia21's daughter thoughtfully put into the parcel. Then I covered the whole lot with a tiny blanket crocheted (sp?) by my MIL.

Last night, we were all sat around the kitchen table eating dinner. I'd asked my lovely neighbour to creep up and place little Mouse by the front door, knock gently then run away. But what actually happened was this:-

I'd forgotten to close the blinds in the kitchen bay window so lovely neighbour had to crawl, commando style to place little mouse on the case, on the doormat, before knocking and crawling away. In his attempt to reach to the door and knock, he kicked a load of milk bottles over, so naturally, he just scarpered. The sound of the bottles startled us and DD dashed to the door, flung it open and.... silence. Just silence. There she saw little Mouse, sitting on her full suitcase, with a luggage label tied to the handle (one that I'd written in scrawl with my left hand hehe - "How I've missed you, LittleEsme's DD. I've enjoyed exploring and making new friends, but I missed you too much to stay away for longer. Now, I just want to curl up and sleep. I'm so glad to be home.").

So, she just stood there, staring and open mouthed. I wish I'd photographed it - she was stunned. She eventually scooped her up and went to sit in the lounge quietly. I felt a little bit of an anti-climax to be honest since I was expecting yelling and running around, but when I sat with her, I could just see the tears rolling down her face. Real tears of happiness. I've said this before, but I really mean it when I say that it was the stuff dreams are made of.

So, the little case is on her bedside table, with the post-cards propped against it. Matilda mouse is back in DD's hand, firmly clutched and firmly found. She has not parted with her, at all. Even in the bath, the Mouse is sat on the windowsill. In sleep, she's clutched in her hand. Please have a look at my pics - I've posted two photo's for you all to see.

DD seems to have automatically assumed that the milk bottles being knocked over were either by little mouse herself/magic/a shy friend of the little mouse/doesn't particularly care - she's just thrilled to have her back. I'm not focusing on this to be honest, I'm just so pleased that there is 'magic' in DD's life! In time to come, I'm not sure what to say. Perhaps be truthful - I'll print out this thread since it's come to mean so much to me. The threads of human kindness and decency that reach out are just amazing. Maybe, I'll just let it become another mystery. We'll have to see.

Again, everyone on this thread has touched me in more ways than you can imagine. Words of encouragement, suggestions, post-cards being sent, friends in far places being contacted to ask a favour, shops being called into to find a matching mouse, and Fabia21's complete and utter kindness and generosity, not to mention her daughters thoughtfulness and caring nature, all to a stranger and her daughter over the internet, has moved me so much. I thank you all, humbly, but very sincerely.

Thank you.

Oh. My. God.

I read through this thread last night, and now I'm crying.

Your daughter will always remember this.

kneedeepindaisies Sat 11-May-13 22:08:03

Strike out fail hmm

LittleEsme Sat 11-May-13 22:08:29

I'm sat here marvelling at the kindness of folk here on MN. I've just checked on Matilda Mouse, and she's still clutched in the paw of my DD who's sleeping soundly.

DH, who I must add, doesn't ever tolerate small-talk, or 'niceness' or anything remotely girly or demonstrative - he's a good man, man of few words and gestures, has cried real tears about this. Real tears!! He doesn't get emotional about ANYTHING but MN has the power to move even him!!!

Again, I must thank everyone on this thread. Anyone needing any help, please make sure you call. I shall try my very best to help.

Lovely, I'm glad little mouse is "back" safe and sound!

OrchidFlakes Sat 11-May-13 22:19:16
