Weird things your body does, and you wonder if it happens to others too?

I know Im not the only one.

I cant even be arsed to name change, here goes.

Nervous fanny.

You know when someone falls - hard and cracks their chin or elbow or whatever, my stomach drops, I get a shot of anxiety that shoots through the pit of my stomach down to my fanny. Right in the middle of my fanny I get a horrible feeling of anxiety.

Its only started in the last few years, its really unpleasant. Its like a bolt of aniexty, and I ONLY get it when someone hurts themselves. Wtf is that all about?

Anyway, what weird shit does your body do? Confess.

Annunziata Italy Thu 19-Jul-12 21:16:19

Oooh I get that, it's a horrible feeling. It usually happens when I see someone fall.

milk Thu 19-Jul-12 21:18:06

I have freaky shrinking feet shock

I used to be a size 5, then one morning I woke up to find all my shoes were too big. I went to a shoe shop and the only size that would fit me was a size 3 shock

I went to the GP, who said it was possible my arch had raised on both feet (and I do now have a very high arch)

Rompu Thu 19-Jul-12 21:19:30

Yes! I hate it - I get it when I feel like something terrible is going to happen as well.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 21:20:25

I get the anxiety in my wombish area so see where your coming from with the fanny thing.
I sometimes shoot spit out of the bottom of my mouth not loads just a little - a bit like a cobra. I dont mean to do it, it is involuntary. Not too sure if it is normal......

milk Me too! I went from a 7 to a 5.5 or a small 6.

Glad to find it's not just me!

slacklucy Thu 19-Jul-12 21:24:26

ahh yes i get that if i am up high.. i'm actually OK with heights apart from it makes my fanny go funny.

MadamFolly Thu 19-Jul-12 21:24:40

Sometimes when I turn my head quickly I can feel a nerve slipping over the bump in the back of my head where my skull begins IYSWIM.

Immediatly after this happens I get a 'hot' feeling in the back of my head which comes up quickly and subsides in about a minute.

Its weird confused

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:24:44

You're all freaks!

hands I get that too very occasionally, I think most people do.

My feet grow everytime I have a baby. I have to stop having kids or I'll have a clowns feet as well as clowns pocket.

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 21:24:45

I get the cobra spit thing too, mostly when I do big impolite mouth-wide-open yawns. I remember my friend crying as a kid because she thought she was morphing into a snake - I think she'd been watching too many Tales of the Unexpected grin

UserNameNotAvailable Thu 19-Jul-12 21:25:37

Since I lost my nipples one of the things I thought I would lose is the sensation of my nipples feeling the cold then going hard but now I get the sensation in my boobs that travels along the pedicle (The bit inside like a rope that the nipple and areola was attached to) the onto my non existent nips but when I touch where my nips should be I have no feeling. Strange.

I can't look at anything to do with eyes and if i watch or see something to do with eyes I can't help but scrunch my eyes up really tight and feel all weak.

I sometimes suffer with nervous fanny too grin

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 21:26:43

grin GreenEyes.
MadamFolly I get that too - it bloody hurts.

CookieRookie Thu 19-Jul-12 21:27:24

I get an itch on the sole of my right foot EVERY night in bed without fail sad

It never happens during the day and there's no mark, rash or lump.

The doctor thinks I'm just being odd because obviously doctors know everything and because she has no explanation I must be imagining it hmm

It's the type of itch that moves too, I can never seem to get it, just end up chasing it around my foot for an hour until it goes away angry

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:28:59

user I hear that happens with limb amputations. Phantom feelings, because the brain still thinks the nerves still 'go' there. Or something like that.

sallysparrow157 Thu 19-Jul-12 21:33:18

When I pinch a certain area on my left aerola I feel it on the outside of my right thigh - just as if someone's pinching there. Never admitted to that before cause I'm sure it's not normal!

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:34:04

Cookie you have just reminded me. All my life I have occasionally had an intense itch somewhere (different place each time) and I'll scratch and get no sense of relief from it, and realise I havent quite got to it. Then find out the itch was actually in a completely different place. For example it felt as thought it was on my hip but actually it was on my shoulder blade.

Also, I find if I scratch somewhere it will set off a nerve somewhere totally different. So if I scratch my shin, I get a funny feeling across my rib cage.

I dont think Im explaining that too well, but I know if someone gets that too they would understand what Im on about!

VirtuousVamp Thu 19-Jul-12 21:35:33

Yay!!! I thought it was just my family that had the weird height/pain fanny/bottom feeling!! My mum thinks its our evolution from monkeys and our tails trying to grab hold of the branch before we fall!!!confused. I obviously believed her....grin

Also I get that weird itchy foot thing on one foot! I had obstetric cholestasis with both DC and its just like that so wonder if it is hormonally linked?!hmm

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:35:40

Same sally

My fingers sometimes go cold when i'm holding a steering wheel. After a long drive, two of my fingers go white.

PatFenis Thu 19-Jul-12 21:36:28

I am yet another nervous fanny sufferer - it must be quite common! I also have vibrating fanjo syndrome - my vulva buzzes like I have a mobile phone ringing on vibrate down my knickers and I can assure you I do not have a mobile phone down my knickers... I sometimes have buzzing arse cheeks too grin

sunnydays81 Thu 19-Jul-12 21:36:42

Sallysparrow - you have just had me pinching myself to see if the same thing would happen!! It didnt!! grin

Gunznroses Thu 19-Jul-12 21:37:26

Thanks for starting this thread! When anxious or uncomfotable about something, i start getting a burning sensation running along my left side over and over again, when it starts i cant stop it, sometimes i try rubbing my side to alleviate, but it will only stop when the foreboding situation changes.

When i explain to people tney think im mad sad it feels like acid running down my side. <praying somebody knows what im talking about>

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:37:42

I get an itchy foot often at night I just assume it was because I was hotter at night, in bed? Ive never given that thought before actually.

SarahStratton Thu 19-Jul-12 21:40:58

I throw things involuntarily. hmm

I also get the high up nervy fanjo thing, I love the monkey tail theory.

Iatemyskinnyperson Thu 19-Jul-12 21:41:05

Auntie B, is it your middle fingers? I get that too. I think it's to do with nerves in your wrists getting squeezed... I've had it since I was pregnant on DS2

sittinginthesun Thu 19-Jul-12 21:41:24

Auntie - that one's got a name. It's Raynauds Syndrome. My fingers go white to when I'm driving.

SkivingAgain Thu 19-Jul-12 21:42:00

I can see 'nervous fanny' joining the MN lexicon and coming into popular usage. Imagine the dictionary entry...OHforDUCKScake will go down in history grin

ladywithnomanors Thu 19-Jul-12 21:43:31

Does anyone else get stabbing/shooting pains up their fanjo? I've no had it for a while but used to get it a lot.

Latemyskinnyperson - yes, middle fingers. I wasn't sure whether to worry or not!

PieceOfTheMoon Thu 19-Jul-12 21:44:32

If I've got a pain somewhere I get what I can only describe as a mini-pneumatic drill noise/feeling in my ears. Never come across anyone else with this so must be a freak. Also get nervous fanny and moving itches.

bucketbetty Thu 19-Jul-12 21:44:50

I love these threads. I'm crying with laughter. I also get shooting pains up my fanjita!

Yeah, I get the weird 'itch that is somewhere else entirely' thing. Except I think my itch is on the top of my left arm only to find it is really just below my navel on the right side. Properly odd.

I don't, however, have an itchy foot or a nervous fanny.

Nagoo Thu 19-Jul-12 21:47:20

I haven't had cobra spit since they renamed opal fruits.

My fanny is poised under pressure, not nervous at all.

<thinking>

I do get the odd shooting fanjo pain though. Right up like a bolt of lightening.

Ephiny Thu 19-Jul-12 21:47:26

There are particular hair follicles on my leg where if the hair is pulled out I get a sharp pinching pain in my lower back confused.

MadamFolly Thu 19-Jul-12 21:48:06

I get spots on the inside of my elbows, have done for a few years. They brew for a few days then I can pop them although ot takes me ages as the pus is fairly deep. Don't get them anywhere else on my arms and they occur on both arms. I get one every few months.

Nagoo Thu 19-Jul-12 21:48:47

Oh, my head is all wierd, I can't let the hairdresser rub it. I am like one of those dogs that if you scratch behind their ear their leg goes up and down scratching.

I very rarely post but MadamFolly I get that too, and have spoken to 2 friends about it in the last couple of weeks, and they thought I was mad! So very happy to find out it's not just me.
Also get the nervous fanjo and when I scratch along my right collarbone I feel it all down my forearm.

BulletProofMum Thu 19-Jul-12 21:51:15

Crackles in my ear
Ridulously soft nails that I can bend backwards

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 21:51:15

i had white bogies when pregnant, both times.
i have no idea why

EndoplasmicReticulum Thu 19-Jul-12 21:51:17

Twitchy eyelid anyone? Or is that just me?

BulletProofMum Thu 19-Jul-12 21:51:28

I get reynauds too

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 21:52:12

nervous fanny grin

Wolfcub Thu 19-Jul-12 21:53:17

MadamFolly me too, I thought it was just me. I also can't lie on my stomach with my head raised - e.g lying on front to read or use laptop because I almost instantly get an intense cold crushing pain in the front of my head, it goes away shortly after changing position

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 21:53:56

Yep to the twitcy eyelid - only when I am tired though.
I get a twitchy pulsey thing in my left arm - a bit like a baby licking ......but in my arm.confused

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 21:54:07

That cobra spit is called 'gleeking'. Knew DH would come in useful one day - he's an Aussie and that's what they call it. Who knew?

Have also read threads on MN about javelin arse. I get that. Nice to put a name to it and know that I'm not alone.

Wolfcub Thu 19-Jul-12 21:54:21

not the spots the head thing

Ephiny Thu 19-Jul-12 21:54:42

Oh I get the twitchy eyelid thing, that's quite common isn't it? Also at times of stress though I have had twitchy upper arm and thigh muscles, have had the twitchy lip as well, and once bizarrely I had it in the muscles of my throat which made me think I was about to choke to death hmm

BogChicken Thu 19-Jul-12 21:54:51

I have strange hips which means my legs can do strange things.....

if you imagine this shape /||\ the two | as thighs and the / and \ as legs i can sit like that. My legs turn through 90 degrees inwards without pain or stretching.

It's hard to explain without you seeing it. but if you were to try it, as a normal non freaky hipped person it would hurt. Badly. and you would probably get locked in that position.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 21:55:02

kicking - not licking blush

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 21:55:41

I can hit the rear view mirror from the back seat of the car with a 'gleek'.

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 21:57:13

Sometimes nipple stimulation gives me what I can only describe as a 'sad, lonely want-my-mum' feeling blush

I got the exact same feeling at the onset of each of my three labours, so I'm convinced it's got something to do with oxytocin. Or that I'm a freak.

gremlindolphin Thu 19-Jul-12 21:57:39

If I haven't had sex for a week or so I start having orgasms in my sleep!

Not the kind of thing you talk about in real life so I don't know if other people have them too!

They are real because they wake me up.

Anyone?!

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 21:57:49

Talking of hips, I sometimes get a hot feeling across my hip as though someones pouring hot water across it. Or if Im holding one of the kids, as though they are weeing (despite the nappy!).

Had that for as long as I can remember.

crazy8 Thu 19-Jul-12 21:57:59

Nervous fanny when I look down from a great height.

Roseformeplease England Thu 19-Jul-12 21:58:33

In certain positions my arms dislocate from their sockets and I can pull them in and out at will. I have never met anyone else with this but it is down to shallow sockets, I think. Also, all mints including toothpaste, make me sneeze - I have only met one other person with this.

Have friend with twitching eyelid thingy who was offered NHS Botox!

Kaloobear Thu 19-Jul-12 21:59:04

I get the nervous fanny thing too! Thought I was a lone weirdo but glad to see it's not just me grin

QOD Thu 19-Jul-12 21:59:05

I get pains in the soles of my feet if I see someone in danger

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 21:59:16

Your DH is right Eye - gleeking

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 21:59:26

I also get the white fingers when driving, especially if I leave my left hand on the gearstick

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:00:24

god yes- the oxytocin thing...totally had that feeling when b'feeding for the first few mins, must've been the let down. you've hit the nail on the head there in yr description.

i gleek too, nice to have a name for it

Maryz Cote D'Ivoire Thu 19-Jul-12 22:00:47

I have a twitch at night, where I'll be almost asleep and then suddenly jump. It wakes dh me up.

I can see things out of the back of my head. Seriously, I would be a good teacher. If the kids (any kids, not just mine) are doing things out of my eyeline, I just know it.

ForFoxsGlacierMints Thu 19-Jul-12 22:00:53

Ok, here may be the place to ask . . . if you touch my DH on his inner left thigh it makes his balls 'twang' - you can watch them. Anyone else?

There is something wrong with my right ear that if I get a loud noise near it a nerve is triggered, under my left shoulder blade, just as if someone poked me. I can't hold a phone that side and head-phones are problematic.

UserNameNotAvailable Thu 19-Jul-12 22:01:41

I had heard of it too oh for ducks sake but totally forgot about it until you mentioned it. Its a funny feeling.

Yeah I get the twitchy eye, sharp shooting pains up fan and bum and the itch that isn't really there but somewhere else.

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:01:45

Really toxteth? I'm so chuffed that I'm not alone grin

CharlieUniformNovemberTango Thu 19-Jul-12 22:02:48

I have a point just below my left shoulder blade that is completely numb. I've had the gp prodding it and not felt a thing.

Occasionally it burns in that point. So much so that my I urial reaction is to try and see if my top is on fire!

I'm assuming it's nerve issues but it can be very annoying!

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 22:02:59

Balls twang ? I will investigate when DP gets home wink

MeeWhoo Thu 19-Jul-12 22:03:03

gremlindolphin, stealth boast perhaps? grin

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:03:54

yeah...i used to dread it in a way, it was a really hollow awful feeling, like staring into the abyss. made me feel very sad.
bloody hormones

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:04:42

I can't believe there is independent verification of the word gleeking. Might have to impress DH with a massive one as a reward

Maryz Cote D'Ivoire Thu 19-Jul-12 22:04:47

Balls twang confused Mind boggles

grin

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:04:59

If someone is talking behind me, in a low or deepish voice (not whispering though) my back goes into incontrollable spasms from bum to shoulders. Has proved embarrassing in long queues.

ForFoxsGlacierMints Thu 19-Jul-12 22:05:01

Thank you handsfull, it's intrigued us both for some time!

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:05:16

do they twang like one of those newton's cradle things?
grin

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:05:19

What about javelin arse handsfull. Experienced that?

AuntPepita Thu 19-Jul-12 22:05:32

Javelin bum. I have never read about that anywhere else, but I have that and totally know what that means!

I not only have a nervous fanjo, but also an angry fanjo confused

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:05:50

Yep that's it exactly toxteth

BogChicken Thu 19-Jul-12 22:06:07

I started a thread about my twitchy eyelid. 6 days!!!! 6 whole days of going completely doo-lally with my twitchy lid.

You could see it from a way away. People stared.

gremlindolphin Thu 19-Jul-12 22:06:12

no stealth boast honestly! Just interested and quite fascinated with what bodies can do.

Krumbum Thu 19-Jul-12 22:06:21

Fluttery heartbeat occasionally
Sudden sharp headache that goes again quickly
If some whispers in or kisses my ear I get shivers and goose pimples all down that side of my body, all down my legs too.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle Thu 19-Jul-12 22:06:43

Javelin arse ???? Dare I Google it ?

MangoHedgehog Thu 19-Jul-12 22:07:30

gremlindolphin me too... blush Tis all the weirder that I am having erotic dreams at the moment, 2wks after giving birth and having a great big episiotomy! sex is the last thing on my (waking) mind

Also, whenever I am pregnant my hairy moustache disappears - bliss as it means I don't need to pluck for 9 months

ForFoxsGlacierMints Thu 19-Jul-12 22:07:59

Similar toxteth but more up and down than side to side!

fireice Thu 19-Jul-12 22:08:33

I have a numb patch below my right shoulder blade that developed after I had my DD1 and spent the next few months carrying her about in full pfb fashion.

I think that the myoclonic jerks on going to sleep are normal.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:08:52

javelin arse, WTAF?

grin

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:08:58

Self-explanatory really. Sometimes for no reason it feels like someone's shoved a javelin up your arse. The pain is intense and excruciating - you suck in a pause and freeze whatever you're dong. Then it goes away just as quickly.

Muscle spasm?

Gettheetoanunnery Thu 19-Jul-12 22:09:46

I get a nervous fanny! I always struggled to tell if I was actually nervous or turned on confused

I also have a hard lump on the left side of my head. I've had it for years, sometimes it shrinks to nothing and then it comes back again. Weird.

Last thing, I see flutters out of the corner of my eye all the time. You know like when you think you can see one of them flying daddy long leg things, then you look at it and it's nothing. I get it everyday sad

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:10:20

Ahh...I get javelin arse when I'm on my period

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:10:44

like a couple of ferrets in a sack looking for the exit, fox?

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:12:40

grin well, i can say, hand on heart, i have never experienced javelin arse.

anyone had shot-putter's fanny?

SausageSmuggler Thu 19-Jul-12 22:13:50

If i'm cleaning my belly button in the shower or something and I poke a bit too far it makes me cough.

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:13:56

No but Discus Clit is an absolute bugger

fluffacloud Thu 19-Jul-12 22:14:47

I get goose pimples in odd patches on my arms and legs for no reason.

Whenever I hear applause it makes me cry.

If I pluck my eyebrows in a certain place I have a sneezing fit.

Nervous parping hmm

ForFoxsGlacierMints Thu 19-Jul-12 22:15:01

toxteth perfect description! Though it happens very quickly, then they must find the exit - until you do it again!

Yes, this is how we while away the hours in my house!

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:15:14

You have no idea how proud I am that I have named cobra spit correctly and introduced some of you to javelin arse.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:15:18

grin

garlicbutter Thu 19-Jul-12 22:16:11

Oh, Charlie, I have exactly the same left shoulder-blade numb spot! In fact, it's started burning just now - in sympathy, no doubt confused It itches sometimes, too, like crazy. But scratching it doesn't help ... because it's numb hmm

My Granny said it meant I'd been touched there by a witch as a baby. She was a tiny bit superstitious.

I'm another pre-sleep jerker. It's your brain discharging excess static, apparently.
I also "gleek" when talking sometimes (yeuch) and am v. twitchy when tired.

Fiveflowers Thu 19-Jul-12 22:16:36

Nervous fanjo - check (watching You've been framed is agony!)
Gleeking - check
twitchy eyelids, thighs, fingers - check
orgasms in sleep - check

Also, if I raise my right arm above my head, the first joint in my index finger tingles.

orangeandlemons Thu 19-Jul-12 22:17:07

I get a restless fanny (different from nervous). when I get restless legs which are a bloody nigtmare, I also get restless genitals. It is not fun. I have to press really hard against it with my hand, like when you want a wee to stop it. Fortunately I only get it in bed

VisuallyChallengedFiend Thu 19-Jul-12 22:17:49

Plucking my eyebrows makes me sneeze

I get random missing and additional heartbeats that make me cough

All my joints crack. It is really quite disgusting. My neck is the worst.

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:18:02

Orgasms in sleep! Is that not normal then?

sallysparrow157 Thu 19-Jul-12 22:18:58

I have sweaty knee-caps - have noticed when I go to the gym I get sweat patches over my knees even when I don't anywhere else (it's not due to trousers being loose and coming into contact with my knees more than anywhere else, it happens in tight legging type joggers too...)
I get the twitchy eye thing too, very much stress related! Had it for weeks starting a job I was really anxious about, which reqired a lot of fine-motor dexterity - I could SEE my sodding eyelid twitching when I was trying to do things!

sassytheFIRST Thu 19-Jul-12 22:19:03

Nervous fanjo. Prickling palms when trying not to cry. And either of my kids vomiting leads to a total bowel evacuation for me within seconds of finishing cleaning and comforting child.

lubeybooby England Thu 19-Jul-12 22:19:58

I get javelin arse when I ovulate

Tortoise Thu 19-Jul-12 22:21:21

I know others get this because I've read it on mn before!
My fanjo sucks up bath water! Always seems to release it just after I get dressed which means wet knicks. Very annoying!

Fiveflowers Thu 19-Jul-12 22:21:53

I get random missing and additional heartbeats that make me cough

Mine make me burp, VisuallyChallengedFiend

hiddenhome Thu 19-Jul-12 22:22:25

When I'm throwing something down the stairs like the laundry bag, or a towel, or perhaps some of ds2's soft toys out of his loft bed when I'm changing it, I feel all weird like I'm falling too confused

My eyeballs make a clicking noise sometimes when I lie on my side.

If I sleep on my side and DH curls up behind me he cannot breathe on my back, or it gives me stabbing pains in my side.

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:22:29

So far javelin arse linked to periods and ovulation. Not really linked to your bum though?

Quite a few of the things listed here....what is the explanation for the feeling of having hot or cold water spilled or poured on you? Had that several times - and have quite often had to check that there is no water around!

I also have a 'funny ear'. It aches into the ear canal, and is painful to touch all around there if I have been anywhere near a draught on that side. It has started to click a bit now when I lay on it. The other ear is fine.
At the moment I also seem to have some form of tinnitus or possibly just blocked ears - when I am drifting off to sleep I can hear a low throbbing noise which I assume is the blood rushing around my ears. A few nights ago the throbbing was replaced by a weird dripping noise (sinus?).

Fiveflowers Thu 19-Jul-12 22:24:52

Oh, yes, I forgot the post bath whoosh, Tortoise!

Why does it stay up there so long, ie until I'm fully dressed confused

Occasionally, if I am laying in bed, I get the strangest sensation that I am swelling up to massive proportions, like Alice, when she eats the cake (or drinks the drink - whichever one makes her grow)
It feels like I could burst, or fill up the whole room, but then if I open my eyes, and kind of 'ground' myself by touching the wall, then it goes away.

I have never confessed that to anyone. Ever.

CharlieUniformNovemberTango Thu 19-Jul-12 22:26:14

garlic yes to the itching too! I've been known to use a fork to try and stop it in the middle of the night when I just want to bloody sleep! But nothing stops it!

I do the sleep jerking thing. When I was younger my mum told me it was because I was having an outer body experience and the was my soul jumping back in. My mum is a freak.

And the eye twitching thing drives me insane!

mummmsy Thu 19-Jul-12 22:27:05

Roseformeplease i sneeze eating minty stuff - specifically tic-tacs! thought it was just coincidence for years, then noticed the pattern and thought i was just a bit weird

I have just spent a full day measuring Javelin at a school sports day. I had to bend over a lot, and was concened about sight of my petite and tiny rear on display. WOuld that be Javelin Arse?

Sparklyboots Thu 19-Jul-12 22:28:34

Hahahahha, am killing myself laughing here. I do gleek, and can do it at will. I get crawling skin on my scalp when certain points on my back are touched.

The coolest thing my body does is remember things for me - you know when you walk into a room and forget why you were in there? Or open a draw and forget what you were looking for? My hands start miming what it was, and sometimes I'll even make a--n embarrassing-- noise, too, so for scissors, I'll be doing scissor hands and making snippy noises. The other day I was looking for a zester and did a great noise, it made me laugh out loud. Then blush. DP thinks I'm eccentric.

BiscuitNibbler Thu 19-Jul-12 22:28:41

Yes to the nervous fanjo! Thought I was some sort of freak!

I sneeze when I'm tired, I get the twitchy eye, and if I stroke the left side of my torso it feels like someone else is stroking the outside edge of my right thigh.

frustratedpants Thu 19-Jul-12 22:29:26

greeneyed I just woke DH up choking onmy shock laughter at discus clit

sparrowfart Thu 19-Jul-12 22:30:54

When I lie on my back all quiet at night, I can actually hear my blood fizzing up through the back of my neck, and feel it bubbling through my veins, only at the back of my neck. I swear I am pumping Vimto! And if anyone pulls my hair I sneeze immediately, and yes to pain/itch in one place equals pain/itch in completely odd place a million miles away. (I'm quite fat so that last bit is very nearly true...)

Pachelbel Thu 19-Jul-12 22:31:21

If I hold my nose and close my mouth and 'blow' (as if trying to pop my ears or something) air comes out of the corner of my right eye.

Discovered as a child after I'd had a nosebleed and my mum told me to be careful not to sneeze in case I set it off again.
I later felt a sneeze coming so held my nose and tried to keep my mouth closed.

Blood squirted out of my eye. Gross.

KeepYerTitsIn Thu 19-Jul-12 22:31:25

hiddenhome yes I get that too. I have to look away or shut my eyes if I'm dropping something or throwing something downwards, but even then I can "feel" whatever is it falling, and my stomach "flips" as if I was falling too. Very peculiar.

Wolfcub Thu 19-Jul-12 22:31:30

I get warm wet leg syndrome, only ever in one thigh, I am always so convinced that I have sat in something wet that I have to get dh to check to make sure my trousers aren't soaked

Roseformeplease England Thu 19-Jul-12 22:32:18

Mummmsy - there are now 3 of us (actually 2 because the only other one I found died a few years ago) but 3 known cases. I have to refuse offers of gum / mints or especially extra strong mints as, at my age, repeated sneezing can lead to er.......!

SkivingAgain Thu 19-Jul-12 22:32:49

mummmsy - the inside of my ears itch when I eat strong mints

and I get nervous fanny

KenDoddsDadsDog Chile Thu 19-Jul-12 22:33:00

Tortoise same happens to me. Except once it was my waters breaking and I had no idea. DH said "can you not drain yourself, it's gone on the carpet this time" grin

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:33:30

Self-explanatory really. Sometimes for no reason it feels like someone's shoved a javelin up your arse. The pain is intense and excruciating - you suck in a pause and freeze whatever you're dong. Then it goes away just as quickly.

Cut and pasted my own post for orangesandlemons. Must be against MN etiquette but what the hell.

I have a squeamish fanny, similar to nervous but mine is quietly confident until I see a paper cut <twang>

KenDoddsDadsDog Chile Thu 19-Jul-12 22:34:14

I also get javelin arse. But only in the right side of my bum hole.

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:34:27

Including spelling mistakes - "suck in a breath" and "whatever you're doing" blush

CharlieUniformNovemberTango Thu 19-Jul-12 22:34:38

notgeoff I get that ear aching too. It really hurts to touch it and almost feels like you need to click it into place or something?

When I get into bed I sneeze 3 or 4 times every night. And most nights just when I'm at the point of dropping off I get a random string of itches. Arm, leg, head etc. usually 3 or 4 places.

fluffygal Thu 19-Jul-12 22:35:05

tastes like panda I get that swelling up thing! I have never told anyone either. I haven't had it recently but for me its like you have to move really slow when you are all swollen up. I can lose it quite quick though and I enjoy it so try not to.

Aerobreaking Thu 19-Jul-12 22:35:28

ladywithnomanors I also get stabbing pains up my fanjo. Not very often, but they are excrutiating. Take my breath away.

Also get sneezes when plucking parts of my eyebrows

And can orgasm in my sleep

And forglaciermints the thigh/ball twanging thing - that is the cremasteric reflex. Perfectly normal.

CailinDana Thu 19-Jul-12 22:35:42

If I'm reading or concentrating on something and there is something brightly coloured or stripy in the background the colours "jump." If I actually look at the bright object the jumping stops. It's very very distracting and annoying.

SuddenlyMadameGlamour Thu 19-Jul-12 22:35:58

I also get fanny twitch. Also when I rub a certain area of my foot I can feel it in my fanny. grin

Pachelbel Thu 19-Jul-12 22:36:18

Oh, and in the same vein of twitchy eyelids and sleep orgasms (of which I get both)...

I get a twitchy fanny after orgasming. Like a weird pulse that you can actually see.
Alway assumed this was normal but maybe not!

Sparklegeek Chile Thu 19-Jul-12 22:36:19

Does anyone else have the thing where it feels like an elastic band has 'pinged' inside their neck?! I dread to think what it is, it only lasts a second but is just EXCRUTIATING. Please tell me I'm not the only one & that my neck is not one day going to spontaneously snap?

Idlegirl83 Thu 19-Jul-12 22:36:33

Tortoise - I get that too smile thought it was just me!

CarlaBruni Thu 19-Jul-12 22:37:41

I get muscle twitches in my calf muscles. Similar to eyelid twitches but go on for hours. Especially after a lot of walking. Fascinating to watch.

Sparklyboots Thu 19-Jul-12 22:39:03

Aha, Panda my head sometimes stays the same but my body shrinks in the same way... movement makes it all right itself.

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 22:39:18

Tasteslikepanda I used to get that! For years!! I used to get (at night!) an overwhelming feeling that I was enormous and that everyone else was tiny. Really tiny.

Havent had it years.

Aerobreaking Thu 19-Jul-12 22:40:19

Oh, and the random itch somewhere that is actually an itch somewhere else - that is probably due to the sensory homunculus So two places that are actually far apart on your body may be next to each other in the brain, so the nerves get 'confused' sometimes as to which part is which. It's why some people find feet/toe sucking erotic - they're next to each other in the brain.

<pretending to be scientific grin >

<hugs fluffygal >
Yay, we are not alone! It's not an unpleasant situation, it certainly doesn't worry me, so I do just tend to ride it out... but I do have to check just to make sure I am not actually puffing up!

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:41:08

Doesn't it just show, we're not half as unique as we like to think we are. Which is quite comforting really

<also hugs Ducks and Sparklyboots >

Poofyness rules!

MrsBaggins Thu 19-Jul-12 22:41:51

Nervous fanjo - check
Sleep orgasms -check blush

I get sleep paralysis - if im really tired I wake up and Im paralysed. I try to speak and move and cant.I get horrible noises in my head. Now I just lie there and wait for it to pass but its awful.

smellsofsick Thu 19-Jul-12 22:42:21

panda I get the opposite Alice in Wonderland feeling. I feel like a shrinking at a rapid rate

Weirdness.

AuntPepita Thu 19-Jul-12 22:42:24

pachelbel - that is your cervix twitching. It dips into the pool of semen (sorry TMI). saw it on a tv prog once. But am not googling....no siree.

Oooh I used to get the growing-to-gigantic-proportions feeling too - like my hands were huuuuuuuuuge with great big enormous fingers.

I always put it down to the fact I used to smoke a ridiculous amount of weed, and it very rarely happens since I stopped.

fluffygal Thu 19-Jul-12 22:44:32

Oh by moving slowly I mean in my puffed up state in my head not moving physically. Ah I miss it, hope it happens soon. Its like everything around me has puffed up to into massive cushions.

BulletProofMum Thu 19-Jul-12 22:45:05

I used to get it too, and still smoke the weed ;£

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 22:45:11

This is just the best thread on the world. I finally feel normal, to the extent I can't even be arsed to name change. <gleeks at shooting pain in fanjo and phantom itch>

gremlindolphin Thu 19-Jul-12 22:45:28

what a fab thread!

tasteslikepanda, fluffygal etc - I do the swelling up thing and sometimes shrinking thing too!

fluffygal Thu 19-Jul-12 22:46:19

Ooh Queen I was a bit of a pill/ pothead back in the day (long long time ago!) so could very well be drug related.

Chubfuddler Thu 19-Jul-12 22:47:08

I get referred pain in my shoulder from random parts of my body.

Strong mint makes me sneeze

If I have an intense orgasm my right leg gets the trembles.

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 22:47:19

Oh, is it weed that does it then? That would explain why I havent had it in years.

GreenEyesAndHam Thu 19-Jul-12 22:47:26

Sparkle yes I get the snapping band in my neck thing too, I can even hear it when it happens. Ugh

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 22:47:29

Oh I sometimes get calf twitches. Last time I had a huge panic attack as I googled and though it was a DVT.

Smellslikecatspee Thu 19-Jul-12 22:48:21

Tastelikepanda

Hey

It's a thing google, Alice in wonderland syndrome! It can mean lots of crap things but sometimes it's just there

atosilis Thu 19-Jul-12 22:48:24

Haven't read the whole thread but if I clean my ears with a cotton bud, I will gag.

I also can relive an itch by scratching somewhere else.

No nervous fanny but genuine rock in pelvis - is that what you mean?

I can always tell if someone is behind me.

Everton4me Thu 19-Jul-12 22:48:35

Nervous stomach and fanjo when watching You've Been Framed when people fall, slip, injure themselves. I also have a clicky left ankle that clicks on every stair when the ankle extends downwards. My mum has it too.

I've only had javelin arse when I've had trapped wind. I have to tense everything up and slowly relax. And fart. [shocked]

I've also had the twanging thing that was mentioned upthread. Funnily enough in the same ear that gets the horrible ache.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Thu 19-Jul-12 22:49:49

when i need a shit and have held it in I get a feeling like my head is growing bigger.

My Dr told me the unreachable itch was to do with thrush affecting the nerves a bit like shingles or herpes does. may have no symptoms else where.

MeeWhoo Thu 19-Jul-12 22:49:50

I can really feel the connection betwen my eyes, nose, ears so I can always taste eye drops at the back of my mouth ( vile) and I always cough if I use a Cotton bud in my ear.
Also, not weird but just wondering if someone else has it or knows what it is. Every so often, usually around my period I get these tiny bumps in my fingers that are really itchy. They are very small and look a bit like tiny round blisters,my mumalso gets them.

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 22:50:30

YY to the ear cleaning thing, except in my case, it makes me cough uncontrollably.

Also, I can't burp. At all. Ever. And I drink an awful lot of beer.

PatFenis Thu 19-Jul-12 22:50:36

oooooh! Heres one for ya all - I know someone whose body seizes up after drinking a couple of glasses of wine. Her hands pull into fists, her face seizes up and she can only move her eyes (she can talk when this happens but only through gritted teeth as her jaw is frozen) and she says her toes get cramp at the same time. I happens every time she drinks alcohol. Each episode lasts for about 5 minutes and then she goes back to normal. I am convinced she is having some sort of fit but she refuses to go to her doctor - its very bizarre to watch! sad

I might have smoked like 5 joints in my whole life - so maybe not a pot thing!
Am now slightly nervously googling Alice in Wonderland syndrome...

SuperSesame Thu 19-Jul-12 22:51:19

Love this thread and have to add my own.quickly scanned theough and i dont think it has been said already but i would LOVE to now if it happens anyone else.

If im 'enjoying' time on my own and fantasising or thinking about sexy thoughts,I always sneeze. Without fail happens everytime and only happens with alone time and has done ever since i was young.
I cant explain it!

swiftybaby Thu 19-Jul-12 22:51:20

Madame folly I get that weird head thing tis horrid!
Also when I clean my ears out it makes me really cough?!
I get really hot feet at night?
Also twitchy eye. Apaz it is a sign of dehydration? (not sure if I've just made that up!)

Signet2012 Thu 19-Jul-12 22:51:44

I get an urgent itch, you know the type that makes you jump and when I scratch it, it makes somewhere else on my body tingle.

I also can scratch my back myself and it makes behind my knee itch.

If I bang my elbow it makes me sneeze.

My sternum (sp?) pops everytime I stretch.

If I put my left arm in a jumper first I get immediate pins and needles in my fingers, If I put my right arm in first and then my left it does not happen.

If I put my finger in my belly button it makes my throat itch which can only be stopped if I hold my nose and blow.

I am a freak!

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:51:57

I need more javelin arse facts to compile. I can categorically state that there has been no trapped wind associated with my javelin arse, not Geoff. Could understand where it came from if that was the case.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Thu 19-Jul-12 22:52:00

my ear expeled a massive hard lump of wax about the size of a marble, my actual ear canal contracted and the pain was so immense It had me on the floor and then I caught the ball of wax in my hand.

CarlaBruni Thu 19-Jul-12 22:52:09

Oh, I get those time blisters around period time - but on my top lip. Thanks.

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 22:52:38

troll the head/shit thing is the funniest thing I have EVER read. Just brilliant.

Christ, we're a bunch of freaks, aren't we?! smile

Signet2012 Thu 19-Jul-12 22:53:36

Oh and if I am unwell or over tired, I get really cold knees. Really cold. Only way to sort it is a really hot bath and to put bed socks on. My dad and my cousin have exactly the same problem

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:54:43

oooh, enthusiastictroll, did you do anything to cause the wax to come out? I have it at the moment and have an appointment to have my ears syringed next week. It's really annoying me.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:54:59

ah well, since geoff's trapped wind explanation, i wld like to register myself as a javelin arse sufferer after giving birth, and it was trapped wind. certainly made me wince

Interesting, but not much applied to me.... I've only had one or two migraines in my life, but I do have a huge general lack of coordination...

OpheliaBumps Germany Thu 19-Jul-12 22:56:02

Ooh I get the growing enormous thing too, especially my fingers, and it's particularly intense if I ever have a fever.

I also get javelin arse and warm wet ear - a sensation like warm water flowing over my head and out of my ear. It manages to be disturbing and comforting at the same time, very odd.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Thu 19-Jul-12 22:56:03

i also get the shrinking feeling in bed, like the alice in wonderland thing. and the falling feeling just as about to fall asleep that wakes me up

LittleWaveyLines Thu 19-Jul-12 22:56:30

I've been wanting to ask this one for ages!

If I rub my eyes (in the dark or I can't see it) - I see a bright spot on the opposite side of the eyeball that I am pressing.... PLEASE someone else get this?

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:57:20

Wince? Wince? That hardly describes the pain that is javelin arse tox

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 22:57:22

OMG, just googled Alice in Wonderland syndrome. I had that so frequently as a child (especially when I was ill with a temperature) - I can't believe it's actually real and exists. Have had it very infrequently as an adult, it's so unpleasant - but just absolutely gobsmacked to find I'm not the only one. Amazing.

TheNamesTheyAreAChangin Thu 19-Jul-12 22:57:46

My belly button has a direct line to my fanjo - if I poke my belly button I get a stabbing pain in my fanjo, not nice and can make cleaning it difficult.

My nose rarely runs with bogeys coming out of my nose... they all drip down my throat and I have to spit it out. yes it is gross but I try to do polite sweeps of my mouth with a tissue rather than hawking and gobbing.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 22:58:25

well, there were teeth marks on the radiator too....

TeaDr1nker Thu 19-Jul-12 22:58:41

I get those blister things as well on my hands. Also I am sure I can feel the tiny hairs in my ears moving when someone is walking into a room, this ear thing usually happens in my house when it is quiet and then DP or DC come into the room. V odd

cocolepew United States Thu 19-Jul-12 22:59:01

Pain shooting up your vag is probably a slight prolapse.

I get a 'bubble' that comes out of my vagina and travels up the front of my bits,it pops around the clit. IYSWIMconfused

I do really loud hiccups but only ever do 6 at a time.

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 22:59:08

Exactly grin

doinmummy Thu 19-Jul-12 23:00:05

gremlin Yes I get orgasms in my sleep.....really good ones too !!

This thread has made me feel a bit of a freak.. I have so many!

*Javlin arse
*swelling up feeling (especially in lips/tongue)
*The backs of my knees go weak if I see or hear about something painful like a deep cut (my mum gets this too)
*the thing where the itch is somewhere completely different to where I think it is
*since giving birth I am massively ticklish, never used to be at all it drives me mad
*I'm able to 'find' things I've lost without looking, it's like my hands can remember where I left them when consciously I can't
*both myself and my brother have lightening reflexes and can catch falling things without thinking
*sleep paralysis, I think this is linked to stress but really freaks me out

Probably the weirdest thing for me is something that's happened a few times now; I'll be asleep or midway between asleep and awake and the first time I suddenly realised my legs were raised above my body, both together almost at a 90 degree angle..my body was vibrating and I was aware of a very bright light. The minute I was consciously aware of what was happening my legs fell back down and the light/vibration stopped. Since then I have had times where I'm almost positive I'm outside and above my own body, always accompanied by a very loud buzzing sound. It's happened about 3 times now and the only thing that's made me think it wasn't real was that DH and DS were sleeping peacefully either side of me.. The noise would surely have woken them. Not entirely a 'body' thing but all this made me think of it. Watching with interest, some very cool stuff here

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 23:00:12

do i qualify then?

Another gleeker and have passed on this gift to ds, lucky child.

I cannot shake a ketchup bottle without my other hand doing a synchronised shaking motion but on its own confused

choccyp1g Portugal Thu 19-Jul-12 23:01:36

I get the vibrating fanny, have done all my life as far as I can remember;
also get the vibrating eyelids, usually when over tired. Also the fizzing in various parts of the body, i assume it is feeling your blood circulating. Oh and the orgasms in sleep, lucky me.

Seeing your heartbeating in your eyes; my sister gets this as well; have been told it nmeans you blood pressure is dangerously high, but mine isn't.
The itchy feet that you just can't scratch came on along with the hot flushes, the strange cold patch on my bum in the middle of the night, the pins and needles in arms, the pounding heart, and the AGONY in heels on getting out of bed in the morning; all down to menopause I think.

But here's one not previously mentioned, quite regularly at night, usually not long after lying down to sleep, (after the obligatory hot flush which happens about 5 minutes after lying down, regardless of the actual temperature), I get this amazing feeling moving from one side of my brain to the other, as though everything is all clear and fresh inside my head. I suspect it is due to something unblocking in sinuses or inner ears, but if only my head could feel like that all the time, I think I could change the world.

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:01:47

Of course. Am looking forward to next time it happens so I can think of this thread.

Chubfuddler Thu 19-Jul-12 23:02:31

The Orgasm in your sleep thing is completely normal, I think it's to do with going to bed with a full bladder. Presses on g spot or something.

MadBanners Thu 19-Jul-12 23:02:35

yes to javelin arse when on my period!

Also, if i really really need a wee, but have held off for whatever reason, when i do actually go, my teeth tingle!

doinmummy Thu 19-Jul-12 23:02:42

Im in pain laughing about javlin arse and the ear wax!

ChooChooLaverne Thu 19-Jul-12 23:03:11

This thread is so funny.

I sometimes get a tingling feeling in the roof of my mouth when my nipple is tweaked.

I get an itchy crawling feeling in the back of my head if I drink hot soup too quickly. Doesn't seem to happen with tea or coffee though.

If I eat McDonalds it always makes me cough.

YY to javelin arse.

OpheliaBumps Germany Thu 19-Jul-12 23:03:16

I just goggled too, I get migraines so that explains mine, how weird, I thought I was the only one too!

Yey nervous fanjo here too! And random itch. Plus sometimes I get a huge random itch in my leg and it makes it do a massive twitch.
Really weird but since I was little when I laugh too hard I get a very intense pain low down on the right side of the back of my head. It's quite scary and I have to stop myself from laughing too hard sad

Sometimes I get a weird numbness up the inside of my leg up to my fanjo. Lasts a few mins. I've had this occasionally since I gave birth to ds 16 years ago so assume its some sort of child birth related nerve damage.
Loving all this freakiness!

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 23:03:49

you should ring nhs direct next time.listen to them going thru their diagnosis questionnaire as you confidently announce you have javelin's arse

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:04:01

Really Chub? Nothing to do with the fact I'm dreaming DH is Val Kilmer and we're having sex, eh?

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:05:15

Facts leaning towards periods rather than trapped wind. Isn't MN informative?

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:06:05

I dare you tox

OHforDUCKScake Thu 19-Jul-12 23:06:21

Has anyone ever got E wee? Bit of a contraversial one... Where they've been on a pill (E) and not been able to wee for love nor money?

Nagoo Thu 19-Jul-12 23:06:23

yes to javelin arse. I am sure it is trapped wind too.

The big head thing is going to make me laugh out loud one day when I'm on public transport or something, and it'll just pop in my head and totally embarass me. Love it. Don't have it, troll you massive freak grin

I do sometimes feel like my hands are massive in bed. mimimal teeny amount of weedsmokage history and none for over 12 years.

Ears/nose/eyes are all connected, so you can shoot stuff out of your eyeballs and taste drops etc. That's normal smile

PatFenis Thu 19-Jul-12 23:07:06

Bloody hell - I have just googled Alice in Wonderland Syndrome too! My dad was hospitalised as a 9 yr old and had physchotherapy because he said that his left hand was enormously larger than his right hand and my gran was told to leave him in the hospital as he was 'not right in the head' - that would have been 1950. Thank god things have moved on and thank god my nan told them to fuck off!

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:07:34

Thank you Nagoo - neck and neck again. Bloody javelin arse. Can't decide arse.

doinmummy Thu 19-Jul-12 23:07:37

I know when I need a poo because I get goose bumps on my bum.

slacklucy Thu 19-Jul-12 23:08:07

my bum sometimes feels like its in spasm.. is that the javelin arse thing. It can last for anything from 30 seconds to an hour.
I get it more often at night & need to put a hot flannel on my bum, sudocrem is also good.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Thu 19-Jul-12 23:08:47

yes to E wee

also if I eat sugar puffs my wee smwlls of sugar puffs

and some times my wee randomly smells like pinapple

EyeoftheStorm Thu 19-Jul-12 23:09:38

Treatment for Javelin arse!? This is better than NHS Direct.

Thistledew Thu 19-Jul-12 23:09:59

YY to the finger blisters, but not all the time. Hadn't connected it to my cycle.

I also get the floaty big head and hands thing. I think it must not be uncommon - I am sure that is where the line in Pink Floyd's song 'Wish you were here' comes from "When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons".

I sometimes get a fluttering sensation in my eardrum.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 23:10:30

Hmmm....the evidence for javelin arse does seem to be pointing towards trapped wind....

tho they may well be different conditions, mine felt like a large mushroom cloud had detonated mid bowel, rather than an upward jab of a javelin spear

Nagoo Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:09

no but I have ahd acid and then thought I was pissing myself continuously. Who said drug use wasn't glamourous?

cocolepew United States Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:11

hurray Im not alone in my bubbly fanny.

I always thought javelin arse was nerve pain or internal poles.

shhhgobacktosleep Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:16

Haven't read beyond pg 5 yet but will do to hopefully find someone else who has an off button. Dh found it when rubbing my head one night. If he (or I assume anyone but no one else is getting that close grin ) applies pressure to a certain point just to the right of where my spine fits into my skull I can't move at all, not even blink or speak. It's like putting me onto standby grin

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:23

they'll be re-writing gastro-intestinal medicine after this thread.

a warm flannel and sudocrem? grin

cocolepew United States Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:33

FFS piles not poles hmm

TheEnthusiasticTroll Thu 19-Jul-12 23:12:51

arent the blister things warts, you can get viral warts that are contagiouse but not of the sexually transmitted nature, maybe your immune system prompts an out break.

choccyp1g Portugal Thu 19-Jul-12 23:13:16

Oh and I have a particular dream that I always have when I am running a high temperature.

Stannwigg Thu 19-Jul-12 23:13:17

I really am still agog about Alice.

toxtethogrady Thu 19-Jul-12 23:13:20

what are internal poles? as in pole vaulting? is this a new condition?

cocolepew United States Thu 19-Jul-12 23:14:03

shock @ standby button. How bizarre.

Yes to E wee although having not done it for me it's usually been after drinking

just remembered sometimes when I need to sneeze but can't if I flap my right hand up and down it 'tempts' it out

Nagoo Thu 19-Jul-12 23:14:17

I think javelin arse is a spasm in your colon. I can't see what else it could be. It is definitely the javelin in my case, I think mushroom cloud bowel is a separate condition.

AuntPepita Thu 19-Jul-12 23:14:29

LittlewavyLines - yes I get the eyeball thing. I assume you are pressing your eyeball onto your retina

I also have the fanjo-belly button nerve link. Makes me shudder if I poke it, and not in a good way wink

I sometimes think my ear is leaking. I'm convinced there is liquid coming out but there never is.

WicketyPitch Thu 19-Jul-12 23:17:37

my eyelid twitches when i'm tired.

i also get this weird pressure clicky thing going on in my ear occasionally.. its like my ear drum is twitching or something.

drjohnsonscat Thu 19-Jul-12 23:17:39

This is brilliant.

I get the enormous swelling fingers sensation.

I get an itch that literally feels like it's in the middle of my head. I guess it's a hayfever thing and it's an itch at the very end of the ear canal or at the back of my nose but it feels like it's in the middle of my brain.

When I see someone attractive I feel it in my toes. Sometimes my toes start telling me I've seen someone attractive before I've actually noticed the person consciously.

Oh and I can't eat walnuts - ow ow tongue hurting. Why are you people eating these shrunken poison devil brains?

BadIdeaGenes Thu 19-Jul-12 23:17:41

This is a bit embarrassing, but when I orgasm my muscles down there sort of spasm and they push some air out of my fanjo blush

Please tell me this is at least vaguely normal...

Thistledew Thu 19-Jul-12 23:18:18

Choccy- me too. I had a sequence of three abstract images that I used to dream about over and over when I had a fever. Two were just in sepia tones, and one in colour.

Does anyone else get a pain in their shoulder after drinking coke or other fizzy drinks?

A few days after I've been really stressed one of my eyelids twitches massively for a week or so.

Whenever I crouch down, my knees click really, really loudly with a grinding crunching sound. It started when I was 15.

If I'm surprised or see or feel like I/someone else had a near miss from a nasty accident, my armpits sting momentarily.

Sometimes if I'm really hungry and I grab a biscuit/cracker/something small to eat, my mouth oversalivates and it stings at the back of my mouth.

hatesponge Thu 19-Jul-12 23:28:32

yy to javelin arse

i used to get the finger blisters a lot as a young child, but I have probably only had them 3 or 4 times as an adult.

A weird one I have - which I think is also allergy related - is that strong cheese gives me a weird tingly feeling in my cheeks just below my eyes. I had never heard of anyone else having this (I remember telling my mum when I was little and she was like this hmm) til a few weeks ago when DS1 was eating some Cathedral City and said his cheeks felt funny!

doinmummy Thu 19-Jul-12 23:28:38

AfternoonDelight Thu 19-Jul-12 23:30:43

I've just googled Alice In Wonderland syndrome - I didn't realise that's what it was when I was a child. I used to be terrified at night because I thought I was shrinking/swelling up sad

I also get the moving itches.

I can't clean my ears without coughing or choking.

Panda/fluff etc I used to get that feeling as a teenager! Can't believe there is a name for it!!

Also if I poke my finger right into my belly button I get a weird feeling inside my fanny at the top, like it's connected or something?!? Don't get it when I'm pregnant tho, weird!

WhatALoadOfBollocks Thu 19-Jul-12 23:34:38

nervous fanny-- yes! it first started when I was little on a Sunday night when I remembered I hadnt done my homework naughty me
when I do my pelvic floor exercises very rarely it hurts my right arm hmm is my Danny and arm connected?? Trying to remember the song from being young - and the thirty boned connect the leg bone, and the fanny bones connected to the arm bone smile

Mindyourownbusiness Thu 19-Jul-12 23:35:26

l get a similiar thing to nervous fanny but a horrible sort of tensing in my bottom when really stressed. Very painful and feels as if something has been shoved up not that l know what that feels like you understand . But it's horrible like a spasm or gripping pain.
DH says they should name it after me as l am a pain in the arse myself .

I also get restless legs syndrome mainly at night when l'm in bed and it keeps me awake for hours - really weird - it's like you dont know what to do with your legs - like the feeling you get when youve been sitting on the floor for example and they've gone numb and the feelings just coming back.

I also get [walking medical dictionary] terrible itchy shins - again when lying in bed at night. And l mean really eye watering itchy aswell. I just want to claw at my shins. It's like hundreds of fleas are crawling on them. Weird and again bloody well keeps me from getting to sleep for hours sometimes - the more you scratch them (and l'd defy anyone not to) the more they itch.

Apart from all that l'm fine grin

WhatALoadOfBollocks Thu 19-Jul-12 23:35:54

drjohnsonscat Thu 19-Jul-12 23:37:31

oh yes and both times I was pregnant with the DCs I knew within about a week of ovulation because I had a vibrating sensation in my abdomen - like I had a mobile phone on vibrate in my uterus grin. Lasted about two weeks and then those feelings got overtaken by all the other freakin weird things that happen in pregnancy anyway.

SuddenlyMadameGlamour Thu 19-Jul-12 23:39:24

It is all I can do not to fanny fart when I'm doing sit-ups. And it's not that I have a bucket clunge as it used to happen when I was a virginal 14 year old and went to the aerobics class in the village hall! blush

SoftKittyWarmKitty Thu 19-Jul-12 23:41:58

I get something called Exploding Head Syndrome, which has to be the greatest name for a condition ever. It usually happens as I'm falling asleep and suddenly I'll hear this noise in my head like an electrical charge or electrical buzzing but I'll also feel the electrical current going through my head. At the same time I can 'see' (not literally, as my eyes are closed) a flash of light that looks like 'white noise' on a TV screen. This all happens simultaneously in a matter of a second or two and it's highly unpleasant and wakes me up. I've only had it happen in the daytime once, last winter, but it was awful. I was at work and kept getting the buzzing feeling/noise in my head, and it was making me feel really headachy and ill. By the next day I'd come down with flu, so my body was clearly sickening for something that time.

I also get a weird thing in my heart area. I'll be breathing normally then suddenly I'll feel a sharp pain around my heart, which gets worse the deeper I breathe in. As I'm breathing, the pain is so bad that I breathe as shallowly as I can which means I then start to feel weak and faint because I'm not breathing properly. The only way to get rid of the sharp pain is to take a really deep breath in which is agony, but I force myself to do it because upon breathing in as deep as I can, I feel a pop in my chest near my heart and I can breathe normally again without pain. I googled it once, years ago, and apparently it's some sort of muscle spasm. Funnily enough, as I've been writing this I've realised I haven't had this in ages, which roughly coincides with me taking blood pressure medication, so not sure if it's connected in some way.

cocolepew United States Thu 19-Jul-12 23:42:01

I was thinking that about the pressure points it could be really dangerous. It's like Spocks Vulcan Grip.

The underside of my chin itches for hours after I've eaten tomato soup.

Javelin arse, nervous fanjo, twitchy cervix, sleep orgasms, post bath whooshes, fluttery eyelid, Alice in Wonderland, exploding head, and also:

When I look down from a height, the soles of my feet get nervous. Like butterflies in my stomach, but on the bottom of my feet confused.

I'm a complete freak!

moajab I don't drink fizzy drinks on their own, but I do as mixers and sometimes I get an absolutely agonising ache in my left shoulder blade during a session when I've had a single G&T. Never connected it with fizzy drinks before, so thank you smile

HazeltheMcWitch Thu 19-Jul-12 23:53:55

Right, I have:

- Inflating to giant proportions in bed thing, only I (genuinely) imagine myself to look like THIS, not ALice in Wonderland
- Javelin Arse - called proctalgia dontcha know. Although literally it just means arse pain. But mine is related to a delightful endometriosis/IBS combo, back there...
- Twitchy eye. 7 or 8 weeks when I was knackered. Yuck. Am also another one who is repulsed by anything eye-related.
- When I lay on my left side, water leaks out of my left eye. Enough to stain pillows.

SoftKittyWarmKitty Thu 19-Jul-12 23:53:58

No, not had either investigated but the EHS is an actual condition - see my link above. There's no treatment and it's just one of those things. Over the past three years I've been under consultant care for a kidney condition, and they've done so many tests and checks I expect anything else would have been picked up.

ALittleScatterOfRain Fri 20-Jul-12 00:30:28

I have the twitchy eyelid too if I'm stressed and I get in in the slightly pudgy bit on the inside of my foot, just under the ankle bone. You can see it pulsing in and out, it's very strange.

I also have a spot on my leg with no feeling- it's where I have a sort of pit/scar from chicken pox so I'm guessing it's localised nerve damage.

I have a horrible one too, if I get cramp in my right arm (fortunately rarely) it's absolutely awful. It spreads very quickly and my arm pulls up and my hand curls in towards my forearm completely involuntarily. I think it must be something to do with the dominant muscle groups? It's quite scary though especially as it doesn't happen in my left arm confused

Thank you God! there are other weird people ot there like me!!!!!

I have been getting the Alice in Wonderland syndrome since I was a child... back then I got it when I had a fever and not only I felt myself growing enormous, but I had obsessive thoughts of balls and objects getting enormous too, accompanied by a sense of total horror. I also heard distorted sounds, and very loud ones. It still happens to me occasionally, apparently at random... and the fear is so intense that i have to stop myself from running and screaming.

I have a couple of weird things that I haven't seen described here, anyone else?:

1. Sometimes when I am watching TV of even thinking about somebody that someone else said, I feel the need to actually repeat it myself loud. When there are people around I feel very embarrassed, so sometimes I try to say it very quiet, with my mouth shut, and through my nose. Some years ago I found out that it is called "echolalia".

2. When I eat something very cold, or when I breath very cold air, sometimes I get this really sharp, intense pain behind my eyes! It is really, really painful, but usually disappears after some seconds.

shhhgobacktosleep Fri 20-Jul-12 07:44:45

And itchy knuckles.

Acumenon Fri 20-Jul-12 08:17:44

I do that, aurynne. The repeating words thing. Or sometimes I just get stuck on a portion of text and go back and forth on it, sort of acting it out. I call it pattern capture, because it happens with all sorts of things: sound sequences, some textures or fabrics, moving water, gestures, omg, all sorts of things. blush

I am an extremely weird person though, just in general. I tend to take myself off to the loo or something if I get completely overwhelmed, or try to refer it somewhere so it's less embarrassing, like moving my tongue around in the pattern inside my mouth.

Oh, excellent googling there, SoftKitty! The Wikipedia entry could have been written from your heart-popping post.

Shhh, you've found more than a few people at least as weird as you grin

A few of these for me - mint and sunlight sneezes, sleep orgasms, sleep paralysis, sat in invisible water syndrome.

When someone is physically close to me who I don't want to be, I get a weird feeling in my left hip, like really sensitive skin.

Since being pregnant, I still sometimes get superhuman sense of smell. I can smell everything in the world at the same time (so it feels anyway). If it happens at night I have to put karvol drops on my pillow so I can only smell that.

Oh yes I get repetitive phrase syndrome as well! Often it's foam banana.

WicketyPitch Fri 20-Jul-12 09:58:16

migraine aura is annoying.

i get blind spots. when i look at a 24hr clock i can only see 3 numbers unless i look at it out of the corner of my eye, its like two little fuzzy spots dead centre in my vision, but even thought it is in both eyes, it always feels like its more on the right side of my vision... this is when i take my painkillers!

gradually those little fuzzy spots get bigger until i'm pretty much blind looking forward but they're not grey fuzz.. its a kaleidascope of colour, then it gradually fades.

i also get confused, cant read and cant speak properly while this is going on.

I often get a feeling in my lower (and sometimes upper) abdomen that feels exactly like a baby kicking. DH says it wind but it's not like any wind I've ever known, it's identical to kicks.

I don't grow armpit hair, I never have, my pits are completely bald. The ont exception is when I'm pregnant and I get a couple of wisps.

Anaesthetics don't last long on me. I have an EMCS with DD and the spinal lasted long enough for the surgery (thankfully) but completely wore off not long after, within minutes of getting to recovery I had movement back. When I got a filling at my last dentist appointment the numbing injection wore off and had to be topped up, that lasted long enough to do the filling but it wore off again before I'd even left the building. It's now in my notes but I wonder if anyone else has this? My cousin has it too (her spinal wore off mid-CS though).

I also get twitchy eye, nervous fanjo, and javelin arse. I get the finger blisters too.

My cycle is bizarre. I have four weeks and a period then six weeks and a period, then four, then six and so on. It was like this when I first started my period at 13, then went all weird when I went on the pill at 21, vanished entirely for three years, then went back to its original 4-6-4-6 pattern after DS was born. I only ever pregnant during the six week cycle and never the four week one.

CBear6 Fri 20-Jul-12 10:06:06

littlemachine, I've Neve lost my pregnancy heightened sense of smell or taste.

marge2 Fri 20-Jul-12 10:07:43

I can pull the tendon in my wrist up towards my elbow onto the 'wron' side of my arm, and when I let it go it you can see it snaking back accross. Freaked loads of people out with that one.

I get the 'womb clench' anxiety thing too.

If I slip, like in socks on a very slippery floor, but don't fall, I get a really intense tingling in the palm of my hands, a bit like the boob 'let down' feeling. If I do fall it doesn;t happen.

If I see a big spider my fists clench of their own accord

BabyGiraffes Fri 20-Jul-12 10:11:06

When I get stressed I start to see things in half-sleep. dh was not amused the time I woke him because I had to tell him quite urgently that there was a gecko trying to climb on his bedside table...

Before job interviews I get IBS type symptoms and go for enourmous diarrhea like dumps several times. It's like my bowels get nervous and need to get rid of everything I have ever eaten.

OHforDUCKScake Fri 20-Jul-12 10:12:41

I gpt migraine aura once, I thought I was having a stroke too. It started off small flashy coloured thing then got bigger to the point I couldnt see. Then I got pain on the orher side of my head, but it wasnt a bad headache by any means.

aureyne number 2 is 'brain freeze'.

Hervana Fri 20-Jul-12 10:16:52

Oh how I love this thread loads of this stuff happens to me too!!

Hervana Fri 20-Jul-12 10:19:11

<Gross alert> I used to get these little smelly yellow lumps appear from the back of my throat-found out years later they are some sort of mineral deposit?? Don't get them so much anymore for some reason

When I was very young I mentioned it to my dr and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about which made me feel like a proper freak!

BoysWillGrow Fri 20-Jul-12 10:19:41

Whenever I pluck my eyebrows it makes me sneeze until I finnish, weird me grin

Hervana Fri 20-Jul-12 10:19:45

Idlegirl83 Fri 20-Jul-12 10:28:34

toxtethogrady Fri 20-Jul-12 10:31:46

hervana, i used to get those too!

seabuckthorn Fri 20-Jul-12 10:33:41

If I am up high or I see anything or anyone at a height I get this funny feeling in my feet! Tingly almost.
Anyone else?

kitstwins Fri 20-Jul-12 10:34:41

I used to have the Alice in Wonderland thingie when I was a child - as everyone said, tended to be linked to fevers. I also had this strange sensation when everything would 'shift'. It's really hard to explain but everything around me would feel very large and round, my skin would feel as if it had big scales on it, I'd see lots of hexagonal boxes everywhere. It's the oddest thing to describe and a horrible sensation. I've no idea what the fuck it is, but I've never come across anyone else feeling the same.

I had repeat mastitis with my last baby (a year ago) and from time to time I get a twinge/sensation of it in exactly the same spot. It's grim. I can actually feel that teeth grindingly awful ache for a few seconds. It may be related to a damaged duct or something.

Get the post-bath surge of water. I can also shoot water from my fanny when I'm in the bath, up like a fountain. It's a bit of a (private) party trick and I guess down to good pelvic floor <<preen>>.

maristella Fri 20-Jul-12 11:14:06

Try flaring your nostrils and see what your fanjo does grin

I also get javelin arse, I'm pleased so many of you do too, without wishing you pain!

Occasional twitchy eye

When I've done a huge wee that I've been really needing my kidneys kind of groan...

When I need a poo my whole body changes, I go pale and goose bumpy and I always break into a sweat when I have pooed, even though they are not difficult at all.

Yes to nervous fanny!!

Whitamakafullo Fri 20-Jul-12 11:16:58

I get the nervous fanny! Someone once described it as an evil orgasm and I thought that summed it up perfectly smile

I get white fingers whilst driving, and if I scratch the side of my foot and get a tingling feeling in my toes

Hervana there was a girl on embarassing bodies that had those white bits at the back of her throat think they were called tonsil stones.

I get alot of these things especially nervous fanny it only started after dd was born. I also get tears in my eyes about everything she's 3.5 you'd think the hormones would have settled down blush

When I eat chinese food I get a funny tingling sensation in my jaw the first time it happened I thought I was going into anaphalactic(sp) shock. I'm assuming its a reaction to MSG.

Primrose123 Fri 20-Jul-12 11:21:37

Wicketypitch I get exactly the same migraine aura as you. You've described it perfectly. It's just after that that the pain starts!

Tasteslikepanda I've had the Alice in wonderland thing since I was little. Never smoked weed though, but I do get migraines. I've always found it a nice feeling, just as I'm falling asleep.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_syndrome

All my joints click.

I get period pain down my legs as well as around my hips.

I can still see light and dark with my eyes shut. I must have thin eyelids, as I wear an eye mask in bed as the daylight in the morning hurts my eyes.

When something nearly happens, such as I nearly fall, or hurt myself, I get a painful burning feeling inside my nose.

If someone sings badly, I get goose bumps all the way up the sides of my face.

PeppermintPanda Fri 20-Jul-12 11:25:36

The itchy blister things on fingers are chilblains I get them either when it's very cold or very hot. I got them right the way up my legs once - agony! I also have the numb finger Raynauds syndrome thing, I guess they might be linked.

I've never had the Alice in Wonderland thing, but a few times I've had the feeling that the walls are shrinking and closing in around me or that the ceiling has come down really low. Very freaky.

I get period pains in my knees (not so much much since pregnancy though) and in my bum cheeks. And when I have a poo, my fingers really hurt.

I can't drink wine because it is too painful. Either staight ofter swallowing or up to about 30 seconds later I get a really intense pain in my chest, lilke it's being burned and crushed at the same time. I judge the quality of a wine by how long it takes for the pain come!

Sometimes I get random words and sentences popping into my head as I'm drifting off to sleep. It's completely involuntary although I can consciously repeat them to myself. It's quite entertaining. They're grammatically correct, but completely nonsensical!

I also have the precordial catch syndrome - nice to know the name of that, thanks!

MzPixielated Fri 20-Jul-12 11:57:26

my DP uses the term "sugar-puff-piss" instead of oh my god/gosh ect. grin should really name change as this is so embarrassing but i really cant be arsed..
after a particularly strong orgasm, i cry! blush also along the same vein is anyone else here a squirter? wink

cocolepew United States Fri 20-Jul-12 11:57:42

I work with a bloke who if he feels a sneeze coming on looks at the sunlight. I have argued with him for years that sunlight doesnt' make you sneeze, now you prove him right sad.

Period pains down your legs is a sign of a tilted womb, it's pressing on nerves.

redrubyshoes Fri 20-Jul-12 12:02:49

If I stand barefoot on a 'bristley' doormat it makes me want to pee.

SuddenlyMadameGlamour Fri 20-Jul-12 12:04:38

Yes coco I do have a retroverted uterus but the leg pain got worse and worse over the years on one side and started happening up to 10 days before my period and a a recent op revealed my pelvis on that side is also riddled with endometriosis in areas where nerves that supply the leg pass. sad

VirtuousVamp Fri 20-Jul-12 12:08:28

YY sunlight in fact any bright light makes me sneeze, as do strong mints!! Everyone's always thought I was crazy and odd, so pleased to hear I'm not alone!!! grin

SuddenlyMadameGlamour Fri 20-Jul-12 12:21:36

The sneezing thing is a reflex to get you to close your eyes to stop the sun damaging them. Still don't know whether or not it's a myth that it is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, and that if you managed it the pressure would make your eyeballs pop out...confused

elportodelgato Fri 20-Jul-12 12:25:44

Love this thread!
I get itches.
If I stand at the top of a tall building, edge of a cliff or similar, the backs of my knees start to itch
If I am watching a film / tv and it's raining on the screen it makes my eyes itch

Buddhastic Fri 20-Jul-12 12:36:33

When I have a pedicure and they get to the point of exfoliating my feet with the gritty stuff I get horrible pains in the opposite side shoulder. They are not unbearable just a horrible 'feeling'.

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Fri 20-Jul-12 12:37:55

VirtuousVamp and Coco's work bloke up to 1/3 of the population have this sunlight sneezing reflex. Don't know if it's hereditary but DS did it this morning too smile

hillyhilly Fri 20-Jul-12 13:00:07

352 messages already, surely I'm not the only person whose top lip twitches into a sort of sneer when they swing their arms in a circle or roll their shoulders (ie at the gym, they must think I'm really sneery!)
Yy to the falling off when dropping off to sleep

Goosfraba Fri 20-Jul-12 13:07:31

I get the bubble in the fanjo thing. And javelin arse, stabbing in fanjo and nervous fanjo and it vibrates (and I over use the word fanjo grin ).

Twitchy eye and leg.

Sometimes, just as I'm falling asleep, sometimes I 'see' myself on this particular escalator in a shopping centre, and I fall down it. This jolts me awake.

Whenever DH touches me anywhere, I get goosebumps.

My stomach also flips if I throw stuff downstairs.

OHforDUCKScake Fri 20-Jul-12 13:08:21

I just did it. I just sneered. I can do it without sneering but with great effort!

OHforDUCKScake Fri 20-Jul-12 13:11:43

Ive thought of another.

Im a complete wuss when it comes to caffiene it does a lot of things to me, headache, jittery but also my fanny muscles contract on and off and can last hours. Its totally involuntary and very annoying.

On the plus side thats the pelvic floor exercises done after a coffee.

TigerFeet Fri 20-Jul-12 13:22:08

I sneeze when plucking my eyebrows too, and my nose runs. Proper attractive, I look, gurning into a mirror with a snotty nose grin

cocolepew United States Fri 20-Jul-12 13:23:23

I get really bad deje vu to the point I stand looking stupid/confused because I cant process why nobody else is wondering why we are replaying the action. DD2 gets it too.

Goosfraba Fri 20-Jul-12 13:25:28

I get repetitive phrase syndrome too. I'll either repeat words over and over in my head, whisper it, shout it if I'm on my own, or write it with my tongue inside my mouth.

Well I just read the thread title as 'weird things your BABY does.....'

Huh.

WicketyPitch Fri 20-Jul-12 13:31:32

Primrose i find if i can take migraleve or something similar as soon as i notice those blind spots pop up, i can avoid the headache.. but its a very small window, any delay and i'm screwed!

I keep some on me at ALL times.

TruthSweet Fri 20-Jul-12 13:31:35

I get javelin arse when on and blinking painful it is too.

DH can 'remote control' me - he found if he does shock face or even just starts to open his mouth wide I yawn (in fact I am yawning just thinking about it!), if he wriggles his nose I have to scratch mine as it's itchy, and he can tickle me by just pretending to tickle me (i.e. wiggling his fingers near me). He doesn't do this though as it's really not nice not being in control of your own actions

I can also tickle myself which is apparently impossible but it's a horrible feeling so I don't.

I get myoclonic jerks at times, as well as a twitchy eye and muscle spasms - I have always put it down to my epilepsy.

I used to be able to shift my knee caps so you could feel the joint underneath, my left hip has a habit of almost coming out of it's socket, my toes bend the wrong way and my thumb can touch my forearm - I have hypermobility though so none of those are really odd!

lubeybooby England Fri 20-Jul-12 13:32:27

I've thought of a couple of other things, but first of all back to javelin arse, in reply to a few suggestions on here.

I've had javelin arse since I was 15, so definitely not any kind of prolapse.

It's definitely (for me anyway) linked to ovulation, as I actually time when my period is due by it. Javelin arse day = period 2 weeks later without fail. I have tested this with ovulation prediction sticks too.

I over the years have had it so bad at times it's made me feel dizzy and faint, I actually fainted once in a supermarket on javelin arse day, and once was really embarassing at a party when I was unable to move off my chair due to the pain. Before I realised the link with ovulation, I was tested for diverticulitis, and endometriosis

It stopped at times when I have been on hormonal contraception that prevents ovulation, but then is a million times worse if I come off it and ovulation kicks back in again, so these days I have a cap instead and it's not so bad at all.

Ok the other things i thought of

Sometimes (rarely now) but particularly when i was a teen, when I was asleep I would feel like my head/skull was being crushed, like squeezed together... presumably in rem sleep, or even some kind of sleep paralysis thing for me to remember it... anyone else get that?

Also if I sit cross legged, the force of my blood pumping round my body makes me rock slightly.

GnabGib Fri 20-Jul-12 13:34:15

I occasionally feel like I've suddenly woken up in the middle of the day, often halfway through a conversation or whilst doing something. It's difficult to describe, but I'll suddenly feel like I don't know where I am, or what I'm doing, or who the people are around me. The first time it happened was in class at secondary school and it really freaked me out. I've got used to it now and just have to reassure myself who everyone is around me and that I'm OK. After a couple of seconds I feel fine again. No idea why and I've never heard of anyone else with it.

GarryBaldy Fri 20-Jul-12 13:37:23

Panda and OP, I am so delighted to find more giant dreamers! I got this sensation loads as a child; like my head had swelled up to mahoosive proportions, but could sort of be squeezed between 2 giant fingers.... sounds scary, but bizarrely I found it sort of comforting! When I (occasionally) get the same sensation now, it takes me back to my childhood.

i also get fanjo-shiver at heights / generally scary things, and twitchy tired eyelid, and occasionally lip-twitch (imagine an Elvis like curl of top lip)

When I have my period it feels like someone has whacked my undercarriage with a cricket bat. Oh, and I've some strange head bumps, but mostly on the RH side...

Mindyourownbusiness Fri 20-Jul-12 13:43:29

GnabGib Could that be sort of a 'mini mal' as opposed to 'grand mal' in epilepsy. Only my brother has severe epilepsy and has had several 'grands' but occasionally does what you describe and the doctor told him these were also( albeit very minor) epilepsy episodes.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 13:44:16

From time to time I get this sudden hot feeling down one of my inner thighs. I think it must be a vein throbbing. I got it a lot when pregnant. I used to think I had pissed myself. But I never had.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 13:46:03

Has anyone mentioned tingling on the soles of the feet when looking down at an immense drop?

lubeybooby England Fri 20-Jul-12 13:46:16

Oh I thought of another one, sex related.

When I think about some particularly good sex that has happened, especially if very recent, I get a feeling like a mini orgasm. Goes right through my body, just really quickly, like lightning.

I call them aftershocks, wonder if anyone else gets that?

Quite perturbing when your mind wanders while queueing in tesco and all of a sudden THAT happens!

QuenelleOJersey2012 Fri 20-Jul-12 13:47:44

SoftKittyWarmKitty thanks for that Wikipedia link. I've had the heart popping thing too. It is exactly how you described it.

Also had nervous fanny/evil orgasms and nerve popping over skull pain

When my wee smells of sugar puffs I know I'm pregnant.

When I do pelvic floor exercises my eyebrows raise involuntarily. This is why I never do them walking down the street.

And if I imagine cutting my finger with a sharp knife I can smell and taste burning.

OHforDUCKScake Fri 20-Jul-12 13:50:52

Gnabgib I was going to suggest epilepsy. I know someone who used to get it. It was no bother to her, as in she didny need meds nor did they esculate. But quite scary if you dont know what it is, no doubt.

GnabGib Fri 20-Jul-12 13:52:18

Mind I've just looked it up and that looks like it might be it. Thank you, I'd never heard of mini mal seizures before.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 13:53:02

Yes I thought epilepsy, also when cocolepew said about the massively strong deja vu, that can be an epileptic symptom too.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 13:55:11

If someone tells a spooky story - it has to be a ghost story, not something horrific - my eyes start to water massively. My sisters are the same.

QuenelleOJersey2012 Fri 20-Jul-12 13:56:08

I 'type' phrases over and over again in my mind, dividing the letters into equal batches. I do it until I've divided the phrase by 3, 4, 5 and sometimes 7. It's hard to explain but I've been doing it since I learnt to touch type 25 years ago.

Mindyourownbusiness Fri 20-Jul-12 13:58:09

Yes but even if it is could be a very mild form so dont worry too much as others have said - may not even need medicating, but at least you can be checked out properly in the process to put your mind at rest.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Fri 20-Jul-12 13:59:52

my eyes water when I have a wee. rthey always have since I can remember. My siblings and friends have found this highly amusing through out my childhood and teenage years.

Does anyone else get sticky lung? Sometimes when I inhale it feels like my lung has got caught on the inside of my ribs and I can't breathe in. It's like a stabbing pain, I have to fully exhale then breathe in really slowly and it goes back to normal confused

Enthusiastictroll grin

You reminded me of another 'condition' of mine. I wee involuntarily when l get out of the bath. Yet l always go for a wee before l get in. But its clear and more like some of the bath water has been drawn up [bucket fanny ?] and is just running back out of me. Most annoying if l have got dressed and suddenly 'whoosh' and have got to change again.
DH (a builder) always says my fanjo non return valve must be faulty. grin

cinnamonnut Fri 20-Jul-12 14:09:03

If I pinch or scratch one part of my body, I feel a zing somewhere else!

GnabGib Fri 20-Jul-12 14:10:28

Thank you mind smile It is definitely mild- I only get it a couple of times a year with no other symptoms so nothing too serious. Interesting to know what it is though, I've always just assumed it was my brain being a bit strange every now and again!

ThePsychicSatsuma Fri 20-Jul-12 14:12:29

applause makes me cry too! feel so overwhelmed with pride for the people being clapped and it's too much. Olympics will be...emotional...

picnicbasketcase Fri 20-Jul-12 14:14:50

So glad to see there's a technical and medically recognised name for the sharp pain up the bum. Javelin arse. I shall have to remember that.

Also v glad to see that fanjo air bubbles are quite common.

I get a knot in the muscles in my jaw if I yawn too widely and get really scared in case it locks and I can never close my mouth again. Like Kristin Stewart.

Mindyourownbusiness Fri 20-Jul-12 14:17:17

They will possibly do an MRI scan on you if you go to the doctors about it which can be scary in itself but they are the best way to tell what is going on in your head.
l might have one as would love to know what goes on in my head sometimes grin

We could go together smile

I have restless legs which get worse in pregnancy. Horrid.

I also have something wrong with my hands. I "drop" occasionally throw stuff down involuntariy. The doctors are baffled by it a they can't Find anything wrong during testing. It's really embarrassing when a fork clatters into a glass of water in a busy restaurant. sad I also can't stand holding anything cold for more than about 30 seconds.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 14:18:21

If you are getting "absences," Gnab, however mild, which it seems as if you are from your description, you should see a Doctor.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Fri 20-Jul-12 14:20:23

I get that too mind I always remember to let it out before I step out, I just stand in bath with legs open and use my pelvic floors to push it out. a bit like a forset fire plane grin.

picnicbasketcase Fri 20-Jul-12 14:25:08

Just remembered another one. If I eat anything chocolatey with bubbles, like Wispas or chocolate mousse, I get sneezing fits.

TroublesomeEx Fri 20-Jul-12 14:25:42

I get itches that can't be scratched. So I scratch where I feel the itch, but as soon as I scratch I realise that isn't where the itch is at all, it's just where I can feel it.

So sometimes I might have to scratch one part of my body to get rid of an itch in another.

I get sticky lung

and nervous fanny

TroublesomeEx Fri 20-Jul-12 14:26:23

I always sneeze with every pluck of my right eyebrow.

Never happens with the left.

Never doesn't happen with the right.

i have an area on my back which has no sensation of touch. But deep underneath it itches...but that itch cannot be satisfied by a scratch....cos i cant feel it!

Also i have restless legs syndrome, i kick about in the night!

LadyClariceCannockMonty Fri 20-Jul-12 14:35:24

I used to get this as a child/teen but haven't had it for years. It's v hard to describe but here goes nothing ...

A feeling in my head like it's suddenly full of slightly warm, slightly itchy/tingly, very fine sand. In my mind's eye the inside of my head is full of a dark/black mass. At the same time I get a kind of reverse tunnel vision and feel as if I'm looking at everything from very far away. hmm

YES to hot clunking neck thing, javelin arse and belly button-fanjo connection.

SarahStratton, please expand on 'throw things involuntarily' grin

OHforDUCKScake Fri 20-Jul-12 14:35:37

I get sticky lung too.

minko Fri 20-Jul-12 14:36:14

When I first had DD and I was breast feeding milk started coming out of my armpit. I had to stick a breast pad in my armpit at all times. Turns out I have an extra nipple (not that it looks like one, more of a large pore). Gross. Embarrassing too...

FateLovesTheFearless Fri 20-Jul-12 14:40:04

I can't just sneeze once. It never happens. If I sneeze, I will continue to sneeze for at the very minimum eight or so more times.

I get hiccups when I smoke.

Sometimes if my nipples are touched, I feel it in my teeth! Not all the time but sometimes!

Sure this one is normal but just incase...if someone I love is angry at me i get an actual physical pain in my chest. Almost like the pain you get with a cramped muscle.

FateLovesTheFearless Fri 20-Jul-12 14:44:08

Lubey, I get mini orgasm aftershocks too! grin

lauratheexplorer Fri 20-Jul-12 14:44:15

Sometimes my fanny tingles and goes dead especially if I've been sitting. It's really very uncomfortable and lasts about a minute.

Anyone?

Condensedmilk Fri 20-Jul-12 14:56:57

Quenelle yes me too. I do it with numbers too - looking for patterns.

Ephiny Fri 20-Jul-12 14:58:34

Right, since we're doing TMI/over-sharing - does anyone else occasionally have an orgasm following a much needed wee? Or is that just me? blush

ShowOfHands Fri 20-Jul-12 15:09:15

Roseformeplease- mint makes me sneeze too.

I also hiccup when ovulating.

Twitchy legs at night - check
Gushing after bath (and getting dressed so need a new pair of knickers) - check
Recurring dream with fever - check (on a corridor, every picture is a horrible witch, every door I open she's behind it, she always looks the same)
Thinking I'm swelling up like Alice - check
Wanting a poo when going into library/certain shops/my mum phones me - check
Going pale and goosebumpy before a poo - check
Hairs on end like a cat when talking about ghosts/moving music - check
Random 'waking' up when I am already awake - check
(Isn't this therapeutic to realise we're not weird and other people also do this!)

This may be a new one - not yawning properly, but can't relax till I do a proper yawn, but its really hard for me to describe the difference between a 'proper' yawn and one that isn't - I just have to keep going till I've done a 'proper' one.

TheNamesTheyAreAChangin Fri 20-Jul-12 15:27:11

yep, I know the yawning but not being able to do a "proper" one.

(and I think this is common but still wierd, just writing yawn made me do one. reading the word will make me yawn - there i go again)

QuenelleOJersey2012 Fri 20-Jul-12 15:29:31

Really Condensedmilk? I am so pleased to find someone else who does that. It is annoying though isn't it?

<yawns>

cocolepew United States Fri 20-Jul-12 15:33:48

HedgeHunter Fri 20-Jul-12 15:41:01

Javelin arse - always seem to get it sitting with DH watching tv - I suddenly sit bolt upright and suck in my breath! Then relax as it subsides, DH raises an eyebrow and asks if I'm ok - I just brush it off with yeah just a spasm - there are some things he doesn't need to know and trying to explain javelin arse with a straight face would be too much!

Also have a patch the size of a 50p on the outsides of both my thighs that are really painfully to touch or press. About 6 inches up from the outside of my knee - I've never had an explanation for it but a masseuse did once say it was a chi spot or some such that had a blockage ??

Restless legs at night drives me nuts - they start after a couple of glasses of vino!

wierd feeling in my stomach very much like a baby moving - has made me wonder on occasion even when I am SURE I am not pregant.

They last just a second or two and have been known to make me blush a little bit.

lubeybooby England Fri 20-Jul-12 15:57:48

I have another one.

Sometimes when I sneeze, I sneeze so hard that I get pins and needles instantly in my arms. anyone else? bloody hayfever the usual culprit

ElephantsAndMiasmas Fri 20-Jul-12 15:58:04

I get achy sore ankles and knees when I'm tired beyond comprehension.

Ever since I was a kid I will occasionally (few times a year) get an awful piercing spine spasm pain that means I can't move (at all) or even breath in properly until it passes. Anywhere from one second to 10 minutes or so. Terrifying.

If I am thirsty when I finally drink water I feel my eyes lubricate themselves INSTANTLY.

Around once a month the skin starts peeling off the inside of my mouth in great sections much in the manner of PVA glue if you spread it all over your hand and wait for it to dry then peel it off. Doesn't hurt and is quite fun.

Eating blue cheese makes mouth and tongue go numb and sore.

I feel like i'm going to be sick if anyone presses on belly button or between toes (no flipflops)

What's scary is that NO-ONE seems to have mentioned these things yet <worried>

MissFaversam Fri 20-Jul-12 16:04:20

I get something like that OP when someone I care about hurts themselves, my bum cheeks atomatically clench.

Mate's ears click when she sees a spider.

Also if I drink alcohol too quickly I get "the monsters" - my hands and feet clench up grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty Fri 20-Jul-12 16:06:59

Elephants, 'Eating blue cheese makes mouth and tongue go numb and sore.' I get that – well, numb, not really sore. Maybe I'm just not eating enough. grin

Also the 'sick spot' between big toe and next toe. <<boak>> at the thought.

BalloonSlayer Fri 20-Jul-12 16:09:33

I'd say you are allergic to Blue Cheese, elephants.

Oogaballoo Fri 20-Jul-12 16:09:47

If I eat sundried tomatoes my teeth tingle. No other part, but my teeth have this really funny feeling that's almost too much to bear.

I love them as well sad

TruthSweet Fri 20-Jul-12 16:20:13

Oh, after 6 years of almost constantly pushing a pushchair if I walk without pushing a pushchair after a few minutes my hands start to swell and go hard (I can have trouble closing my hands if I am away from the children all day!).

TruthSweet Fri 20-Jul-12 16:21:01

I used to get swollen hands if I got drunk but I have been teetotal for 8 or so years now so it's not that!

Pinot Fri 20-Jul-12 16:21:33

i get the nervous fanny/monkey tail thing too

SardineQueen Fri 20-Jul-12 16:37:12

When I shave my armpits I see loads of flashing glittery stuff like tinsel out of the corner of my eye which vanishes if i try to look at it. Sometimes the tinsel stays there just out of the corner of my eye glittering at me for a while after I've finished.

Is that a new one? (not red whole thread)

I also get the massive twitch when falling asleep thing.

SardineQueen Fri 20-Jul-12 16:38:28

also yes to "proper" yawn and weird bit between big toe and next. Mine sends a shiver down my back rather than wanting to hurl.

I like this thread grin

howcomes Fri 20-Jul-12 16:44:35

Recall I get that weird itchy, caterpillar crawling over my right shoulder feeling when breastfeeding too.

My feet go all limp and quivery if I hear about anything gory, eg an operation, I admit to javelin arse, nervous fanny and my teeth go dry if I have to dip my hand into a bag of flour.

I love the idea of calling nhs direct about javelin arse! Great thread, makes me feel normal!

ElephantsAndMiasmas Fri 20-Jul-12 17:07:05

Clarice! Sardine! <holds to bosom, carefully avoiding sick spots> The fact that flipflops are an actual item of clothing boggles my mind every time i see them.

Hmm might be right about allergy. Used to get it from quorn as well which is also made from some kind of mould nonsense, fine now though.

Ooh also sometimes if I'm drinking I'll suddenly get this incredibly odd pain around the solar plexus but inside, as if a fist has punched me right there and made me breathless.

HazeltheMcWitch Fri 20-Jul-12 17:10:48

SardineQueen betcha that the eye sparkles think is something to do with either the way you're angling your head - or even that you're slightly holding your breath as you shave your 'pits.

Roseformeplease I sneeze when I eat mints too! Yessssssssss.....Allergy friend! smile

DifferentFutureAhead Fri 20-Jul-12 17:12:13

My eyes water when I yawn. I mean actual tears stream down my face. If I try to hide the yawn incase people think I'm bored, they see the watery eyes and think I'm crying.

No one else I know has this happen to them and people don't often believe me when they see tears streaming down my face and I tell them it's because I yawned!

ElephantsAndMiasmas Fri 20-Jul-12 17:19:33

Extra strong mints make me sneeze. I also flinch if I touch them with dry skin - why are they so horribly chalky?! - so have to try and get them from packet to mouth without touching.

StrandedBear Fri 20-Jul-12 17:29:23

Sometimes when I get pins and needles in my leg it runs all the way up to my fanny and my fanny gets a weird pinsnneedles sensation in it.

shhhgobacktosleep Fri 20-Jul-12 17:34:18

Yes yes to to feeling sick if anyone (including myself) touches my belly button. It also causes an itch in my cervix. Dd (16) also feels sick if her Bellybutton is touched but I don't know if it itches her cervix, we've not had that discussion yet grin.

I also count words in sentences and sometimes even letters in words when people are speaking. It has to end on an even number or be divisible by 5 and if it doesn't then I can't stop and have to go onto the next sentence. Sometimes I have no idea what people said or what's just happened on TV but I can tell you how many words were in the sentences confused. It drives me potty but I've been doing it for years and can't control it.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Fri 20-Jul-12 17:37:17

Elephants, I must confess that I can actually wear flipflops ... It's just if I press on the 'webbed' bit inbetween those two toes. Weird.

LaQueen Fri 20-Jul-12 17:45:05

If I get anxious/nervous about something I start getting a really sharp prickling sensation down my buttocks and the backs of my legs - it started when I was about 17?

The tip of my right, big toe is completely numb - and has been for over 10 years, no idea why?

When I'm anxious, I gently squeeze my thumb with the other fingers on my hand, to make me feel better. It really works.

When I'm ovulating my eye-sight improves, gets clearer and colours seem brighter. And, when I'm getting ardent (ahem) with DH my eye-sight really darkens, and goes quite dim hmm

ElephantsAndMiasmas Fri 20-Jul-12 17:48:54

LQ - I have been known to go deaf at that point blush grin

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

LaQueen Fri 20-Jul-12 18:02:02

Elephants yes, yes...my hearing goes really dim, too shock

snuffaluffagus Fri 20-Jul-12 18:09:01

My neck sometimes "fizzes". I find it happens when I'm hungry and my tummy rumbles.. and the fluid in my neck/back of head (I assume spine or something?) will make a really strange sort of fizz noise.. my sister has heard me doing it so it's not in my imagination! Very strange..

LaQueen Fri 20-Jul-12 18:09:11

Calpol really makes me cough - even just a tiny bit of it, that I might lick off the end of a spoon.

And certain smells will make tears come to my eyes - fresh lavender is one, and a whiff of DH's aftershave is another.

bogeyface Netherlands Fri 20-Jul-12 18:10:11

My ears sometimes have this weird knocking/thumping sound when people are talking or there is a noise. No idea what it is but it is massively annoying!

bogeyface Netherlands Fri 20-Jul-12 18:11:12

~snuff I get a fizzy neck too, its goes up the back of my head, its very strange!

FunnyLittleFrog Fri 20-Jul-12 18:11:58

yes to frightened fanny, twitching eye lid, mint sneezing, belly button coughing, bath gushing. I am very reassured, thought it was just me!

I sometimes have a weird moment where I look around and suddenly think 'I'm really here!'. It's like waking up and very odd.

I haven't had hiccups since I gave birth 4 years ago. Used to get them all the time.

RubyRosie Fri 20-Jul-12 18:23:50

I'm so glad to hear that nervous fanny is a real thing, I thought I was a weirdo after I asked a friend if she felt like that too after we had just come off a fast fairground ride and she laughed at me.

RubyRosie Fri 20-Jul-12 18:24:22

We were about 8 or 9 at the time.

snuffaluffagus Fri 20-Jul-12 18:37:56

Thank god bogey! Yes mine goes up the back of my head, it's usually when I've recently woken up and am lying in bed.

PippiL Fri 20-Jul-12 18:58:12

When my body has had a shock, such as giving birth, or an operation, I get a bump in each fingernail that gradually grows out over the next month or so.

I feel pain more than others..I'm a redhead! Always need a lot of anaesthetic for anything dental. When I had a c section he kept asking me if I could still feel the pin on my bump and I could so he had to pump me full of drugs!

I click...everywhere. My coccyx goes KERLUNK. It is v satisfying.

GnabGib Fri 20-Jul-12 19:03:58

Thank you Balloon and mind, DM is a nurse who's looked after lots of children with epilepsy so I'll have a chat with her about it this weekend.

HexGirl Fri 20-Jul-12 19:27:18

YY to nervous fanjo, can happen anytime I'm nervous or scared of something. I'm scared of heights too and for me that's a different sensation, as if everything is draining out of me and straight down to the ground.

I also get runny ears. Sometimes they actually do feel wet even if I haven't had a shower or immersed them in water. It's often worst at night and it feels as if liquid is literally pouring out my ears but when I feel them they are dry.

I also get peeling ears. It happens every year or so and it's almost like a snake shedding its skin as I can literally peel large flakes of skin off my ear, think pretty much the entirety of the exposed surface of the ear. Most peculiar and I do clean and exfoliate them but it makes no difference.

I have an ankle that I sprained twice, the last time being back in 2008. It doesn't bother me during the day but at night I have to wear an elastic aged bandage as it doesn't exactly hurt but one spot just sort of bothers me ifyswim. I can usually dispense with the bandage at some point during the night but I just can't get to sleep with it if I don't have it.

Mindyourownbusiness Fri 20-Jul-12 19:33:41

Pippil my brother was a redhead and after several bouts of strong chemo, not one hair on his head fell out (but it didnt grow at all during treatment) and he wasnt sick once. the nurse treating him said she had only seen this once before with such a high dose and that was a redhead too.

ParanoidAnnie loving your link. Particularly this little nugget :

" Simultaneous stimulation of the local autonomic system can cause erection in males. "

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Fri 20-Jul-12 19:38:59

PippiL I get the fingernail thing too, after I had DS it looked like I had jammed both hands in a door. grin

Babygiraffes DB gets the nervous diarrhoea thing. We always called it "exshitement".

Stannwigg I can't burp either. No matter how much beer I drink.

Eggrules Fri 20-Jul-12 19:59:19

Have loads of these but am sorry to have googled sticky lung.

If I hear a loud noise when my eyes are closed, I see a jagged 60's black and white pattern.

When I am waking up, I get sleep paralysis. I also get mad swooping feeling like I'm falling out of bed. It happens more if I sleep in the afternoon.

Pregnancy left a legacy of nonsense in it's path. They include; a black spot in my left eye, leg hair (didn't have any before), the consistency/shape of some my nails has changed, I cannot bear to have my feet or ears touched. I wake up at 6:30am every day, no matter what and can't get back to sleep.

If I have trouble sleeping I can usually make myself have a recurring dream and go straight off. DH is very envious that I am able switch off.
