A small fluffy bundle...

(113 Posts)

I walk to work (about 10 minutes) and this morning spotted a small fluffy bundle on top of a wall. I didn't really have time to check it out, but it played on my mind all day.

I checked it out on the way home, and it's a dead cat sad I work shifts (which is why I'm posting 12 hours after I first saw it) and have tomorrow off. I need advice on what to do:

a) Nothing
b) Go back with a cardboard pet carrier and rubber gloves and contact the local vet in the morning
c) Call the emergency vet and/or some kind of local council department

I don't think I'm heartless enough for option a. I was incredibly grateful to the stranger who took my cat to the vet when he was run over even though he didn't pull through. Option b seems logical but I would have to store it in the dustbin as I don't really want it in the house, but that seems disrespectful. Option c might be the proper way to do things, but I'd like to know that the owner knew what had happened.

I don't have dc's so am free to go with the MN verdict! Thank you thanks

You're going to have to replace it under the cover of darkness.

You got a balaklava?

Oh god, is the photo on your profile yet. The last photo is of this curled up orange fluffball and it does look incredibly realistic - or is that your real cat? I'd have been taken in completely until I picked it up and realised that a toy cat weighs a lot less than a real dead cat.

This has made me genuinely laugh out loud!! I was all worried about the little cat, the microchip, the sad owner, etc etc

If it makes you feel slightly better, the "what I thought was a dead cat" in my post turned out to be a fox cub but I only found this out after my OH had called the RSPCA for me after I'd called him all upset!

But OP, you are a Good Person and it would have been a lovely thing to do had it been real!

Is it very wrong that I now want to buy a realistic toy cat just to flush out MNers in my vicinity?

Purple I want you to be my best friend please.

You have made me grin grin grin my pants off

I wonder what the vet's bill will say? "Consultation on 1 x toy cat" LOL. "Miss Polly had a dolly that was sick, sick, sick..."

Cheers for the photo! To be fair, in the dark and rain it really would look like a dead cat.

It's the curled up black and white one on my profile. I had to pop out for a job interview, so have sorted it now I'm back.

The ginger one is my deceased fluffball, Mango, who was taken to the vet by a kind stranger when he was run over by a car earlier this year - probably why I was so keen to help this one!

I picked it up with gloves, and it was half past nine at night therefore dark.

mistressploppy - I'm with you on every point!

I actually laughed out loud, for real, when I got to the unexpected denouement!

I'm sorry you feel silly, but oh my goodness that's cheered me right up!

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie Tue 11-Oct-11 15:22:30

Oh I'm so sorry - what a nightmare but hey at least you have all your lovely friends here to point and laugh express their sympathy!

Oh just brilliant. Have just laughed for about 10 mins.

OP you are priceless smile

I'm still giggling three hours later shock

DNephew was given a ginger FurReal cat last Christmas after falling in love with my pair of real ones (he's DP's nephew, which is why he only met them as adults) so I should have bloody known!

You are my favourite MNetter. How could you not notice that it was a toy?

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 11-Oct-11 16:06:10

At the beginning of the thread I was thinking that you're a very kind-hearted MR-er. I'd be very grateful for anyone who helped my cats out at the end.

And now? Now I think you're a slightly short-sighted, but still very kind, erm plonker. That is too funny although I can imagine how it would happen.

Well done you anyway.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 11-Oct-11 16:06:43

Arrrrggghhhhh. You're not an MR-er. I don't even know what one of those is. I obvs meant MN-er...

This is absolutely priceless purple. I'm so glad it wasn't a zombie cat grin
