Not sure where mumsnet sits on the MDG? there are a few references on mumsnet but couldn't find a thread. Apologies if this is the wrong place; please advise.

I put the maternal health goal below, and a link to the others at the bottom.

Target: Between 1990 and 2015, reduce the maternal mortality ratio by three quarters.
Although most maternal deaths are preventable, MDG 5 is proving hard to reach.
Every year more than half a million women die due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth ? 99% of these women live in developing countries.
In developing regions there were 480 maternal deaths per 100,000 births in 1990 compared to 450 deaths in 2005.
Half of all maternal deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa and another third in Southern Asia. Together, these two regions account for 85% of all maternal deaths.
Eastern Asia, Northern Africa, and South-Eastern Asia showed declines of 30% or more between 1990 and 2005. Southern Asia reports a decline of more than 20% over the same period.
Overall, the proportion of births attended by skilled health workers in developing regions has increased from 53% in 1990 to 61% in 2007. However, in Southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, more than half of all births still take place without the assistance of trained personnel.
Since the 1990s, the proportion of pregnant women in the developing world who had at least one antenatal care visit increased from around 64% to 79%.
Pregnancy early in life contributes to the estimated 70,000 maternal deaths among girls aged 15 to 19 every year.
An infant?s risk of dying in his or her first year of life is 60% higher when the mother is under age 18 than when the mother is 18 or older.

Hi pootros. If you look at this page you'll see some information about our maternal mortality campaigns activity; we're a member of the Maternal Mortality Coalition, which includes the White Ribbon Alliance, Oxfam, Amnesty, ONE, Women for Women International, WaterAid and many others.

I spent a glorious week in New York in September reporting on the MDG summit for Mumsnet - you can see the thread here.

Brilliant. Thanks very much - including for the spelling heads up. Maybe that's why I couldn't find any references in my search!
