Growth tailed off for one twin

Had a growth scan at 35+6 yesterday, and one twin had dropped centiles and hardly grown since the last scan (4 weeks ago).

Twin1 gone from 1.8kg to 2.8kg
Twin2 gone from 1.7kg to 2.1kg

They've referred me to fetal medicine, but as it was Friday afternoon, said no one will call until Monday morning Sad

Anyone have any experience / advice? They're dcda btw.

What does dcda mean?

I am no medical expert but they may deliver early. However, 36 weeks for twins is amazing and my singleton was born naturally at 37 weeks. They may give steroids for their lungs. Good luck x

Please and I know it's hard but don't panic If they have slowed in growth. My twins were born at 34 weeks in June of this year due to static growth (they didn't grow much in the last month at all) but they were both absolutely fine when born - just needed time in scbu to grow and learn how to feed. Just keep a bag of stuff you need with you in case you have to stay in for monitoring- I was in every other day for ctg scans to check there heart rates in the last month. I had a c section as i was told it was less stress on the babies. If you want to ask me anything please do :) x

That's what I thought, superram.

Thanks, Pointeshoes, it is hard not to worry too much. How long were your dc in scbu?

I hope you've managed to get into to see the fmu today.
I'm shocked your scans have been 4 weeks apart, you should be 2weekly or even weekly at this point along. I know it's not unheard of but 4 weeks!
Have they been checking the MCA dopplers?
This is a check for TAPS (Twin anemia polycythemia sequence)

I think TAPS is only an issue in MC twins?

Anyway, basically waited all day for promised phone call. Called at 1 and again at 4 as hadn't heard anything & left my details. The receptionist just called back & said she'd asked the docs & said "Just tell her we've given her an appointment on Thursday".

I'm so stressed out, I'm just on the sofa crying now. Thinking about going there this eve and saying I've got reduced movements - at least then they would check they're ok.

Sorry I read wrong.
Even with dcda twins you should be seen more frequently.
Reduced growth is not necessarily something to be concerned about at this stage, it may just be due to reduced room in there.
SIGUR or IGUR could be a cause.
35+6 is not that early for them to be delivered and I would prepare for that.
My 2 arrived at 35+4 and struggled the first couple of days with regulating sugars and temps, they stayed with me on the ward while we tried to get it back on track.

Those are still good weights OP! Mine were born at 36 weeks and were both 2kg. It might be that they didn't get good measurements as it is quite hard at this stage of pregnancy. I am sure they would have given you an earlier appointment if they were really worried.
