28 weeks pregnant with twins and struggling!

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins and really starting to slow down and struggle.

My little boy is 16.5mo and I just can't keep up with him!

I'm very grateful that all is going well with my pregnancy and the twins are thriving. I've just hit a wall I think, with a lot of tummy discomfort and one transverse twin that is sticking into my ribs!

Please tell me it gets a bit easier (physically) when the babies are born Smile

I'm 27 weeks with DCDA twins and no other little one to look after and I'm shattered too so full credit to you for even getting out of bed in the morning! I hate feeling so pathetically exhausted but was warned by the midwife I'd not want to be working on my feet by this point...and they're right (as much ax I wish they weren't!) so I've just put this down as normal.

Can't offer any advice about this getting better-although will be looking out for the replies-but hopefully knowing you're not in your own helps!

Hang in there-we WILL get there!

Thanks 2015, it is good to know that I'm not alone!

I don't want to wish away my pregnancy but I really can't wait until 37 weeks dawns Smile

Good luck to you!

I know what you mean. It's taken me a long while to get to this point and I'm incredibly happy (albeit in disbelief) that I'm pregnant with twins but I am nervous about how I'll get through the next 10 weeks if I'm already struggling now. Hopefully finishing full time work will help.

TheEagle · 23/02/2015 19:02

I feel really nervous too and I've a feeling these next weeks are going to be the toughest.

When do you finish up at work? I job share so my next week on (tomorrow week) will be my last. I'll just be 30 weeks when I finish up.

Getting very excited to meet my twinnies now - got to keep focusing on 2 snuggly newborns Smile

I remember that stage, and you have my utmost sympathy. Both of mine were transverse, one above the other (like a double decker bus, as one midwife commented Angry), and they stayed that way, so I hope yours turns into a more comfortable position.
It'll be over soon though, honest, says the woman who cried at the consultant and refused to leave until I had a date for my c section Blush

Finish full time on Friday....can't wait! I'm then working Tuesdays and Thursdays in March using up my annual leave so I'll be 32 weeks when I officially start my mat leave. Looking forward to having time to buy things for these two as really haven't got very much at all.

Enjoy your mat leave.
Don't go daft with buying stuff though, I found we got given sooooooo much stuff, and my standards slipped drastically that I really didn't need a great deal for the first 6 months ish. They wore babygros with cardis day and night, and were changed infrequently, generally when they'd had a poonami. It's nice having two of everything, but we only used one playmat, as they both went on the same one, one bouncy chair, etc. Gallons of nappies, loads of bibs and muslins, and a share in baby wipes and you'll be sorted.

Can I join in too, just posted something similar on Pregnancy. I am 22 weeks with DCDA twins both transverse - top to toe and just miserably uncomfortable.
I gave up childminding at Christmas as I couldn't keep up with three two year olds but just the walk to school and back four times a day is killing me. Just can't imagine how big I am going to get as I am already out of all my maternity clothes from previous pregnancies

Hi oldlady, sorry you're suffering too! The transverse position does seem to be the cause of a lot of my tummy troubles. T2 doesn't like it when I lie on that side either and kicks the bejesus out of me until I move!

I'm pretty huge as well - the only saving grace is that I got absolutely massive with my DS (not just bump related) so I do have biggish clothes.

Do you have other DC as well? Minding my little boy is the toughest bit for me at the moment.

Here's to the final stretch!

Hi, you have my sympathies ladies. My girls are 9 months now but I remember the pregnancy far too well. Both mine were head down all the way through, which may sound ideal but like yourselves there was just no way of being comfortable, 1 pushing down constantly and 1 constantly pushing up into ribs. The relief you feel when you've had them is amazing.
I hit my brick wall around 28ish wks, I don't work but have 3 older dcs to look after and walking up to school I could see people's look of sympathy way before I managed to reach them. It doesn't get easier but you will get through it.

Can I join in? I'm 31 weeks and have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I'm a teacher and have another 4 weeks left at work. Even though I'm only measuring the fundal height of a 'normal' pregnancy (30cm) I am so uncomfortable! I think being quite short means they are packed into a tiny tiny space. I never suffered with heartburn or pain like this in my previous pregnancies...

2015, only one more day after today and you'll have a chance to put your feet up Smile

littlesupersparks, my friend had twins and she's 5'0 and suffered so badly with tummy troubles towards the end!

I don't think there's any comfy way to carry two little bodies around.

On my way to have a growth scan now so looking forward to seeking the little wrigglers again.

Same here, 28 weeks with di-di twins and a 2 yo dd and I am srsly knackered. I'm huge, at least as big as when I was 40 weeks with dd. I am struggling to walk and finding it almost impossible to find a comfortable position to sit or lie in. And I feel like I can barely eat two bites before I'm full.

It is a very uncomfortable time in the twin pregnancy.
I was lucky in that my eldest was 3.5 and in pre-school and childcare so I was still working until 32 weeks! I swear my life was easier going to work than having to look after her Blush

Eating at this time was awful, as bonbonbonbon says 2 mouthfuls and no more food is going in.
Also at this time 1 baby squished my bladder so badly that I couldn't go for more than an hour without weeing, and when I went I only managed to squeeze out about .5ml. Until the day she shifted whilst I was in hospital and was trying to give a sample. I flooded the sample container (you know like the sick bowl) and managed to spill wee all over the floor.
Ah fun times...Grin

bonbon, I took a picture of my 29 week bump and compared it to my 39 week bump with DS.

This bump is bigger!!!! I wonder if I'll actually have any clothes to fit me by the end.

I'm 30 weeks tomorrow which is a massive milestone for me. I've also been really ill this week with flu (which I've never had in my life) and a throat infection. I'm really finding things very hard and am not able for my now 17mo DS at all. Sorry for the moaning!

7 and a bit weeks to go!

My GP prescribed me Zantac before Christmas because I was vomiting a lot. That calmed down but I started taking it a few days ago for the heartburn and it's fantastic. Means I'm not waking up at night with that horrible acidy feeling in my throat.

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling better than me!!!

Wow, Eagle, definitive proof! I did the same and I'm definitely at least on par with my 40 week pic from last time.

I'm sorry you're outgrowing your maternity clothes. I make my own clothes so in a burst of 2nd trimester energy I made six new maternity/nursing dresses. I felt so grumpy last time, as none of my dresses opened down the front and I nursed for over a year. This time at least I will have some nice clothes that I'll feel good in.

Can I join? I'm 33 weeks with boy/girl twins and already have a 4 year old DS. Still working for a few more weeks, but from home rather than travelling to the office. Propped up on a beanbag on the sofa, I figure I might as well have some distraction Smile. Does anyone else have a patch of really sore skin that feels as if it's burning? That's the worst of it for me (along with the back ache, breathlessness, insomnia etc)

Can I join too? 31 weeks with dcda twins, been off work since 20 weeks and in pain since 16 weeks with sciatica, it's gotten so bad I only leave the house to go to my hospital appointments or to dm's for a few days tlc, also have a toddler running to try look after but keeping him fed and bum changed is all I can manage. I just want these babies out and to be able to walk and cuddle my ds again, I can't do it anymore Sad Sad

mrsm, hugs for you!

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and have been given my date for ELCS. That makes it feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel and I will get there.

It's so hard when you've another smallie too isn't it? My DS had a tummy bug this week and it was so tough managing that as well as the bump!

We are really in the home stretch now Smile

6 weeks and 3 days until we meet our twins! It's very exciting (and a little terrifying)

How about you? Will you have a section do you know?

Both my twins are breech and I also had a complicated EMCS birth with DS so it's a section for me.

My two boys have had chicken pox over the last few weeks and my husband has been ill - I've had a dreadful cough. We had had the worst poorly house ever! I'm 34 weeks this week - only two weeks left at work!

How are everyone's babies measuring? Mine are over te 50th centile and now I don't even know if I will need the tiny baby clothes I bough!

Oh exciting! count down is well and truly on!!
I'm hoping not to have a section so il be induced at 38 weeks but at last scan twin 1 was transverse and a small part of the placenta was over the cervix so depends on whether that has all changed at the 34 week scan, said they won't decide til then!!
oh god chicken pox and 34 weeks don't know how your still sane! not sure about where they are on the percentile but been measuring big all along, 4 lb and 3 lb 10 at 30 week scan!

Report
TheEagle · 16/03/2015 12:03

Oh no, chicken pox is the last thing you need! The end is really in sight littlesupersparks Smile

I'm not sure of my twins' percentiles either as the sonographer on the 30 week scan didn't note them down. At 28 weeks they were around the 30th percentile and at 30 weeks they weighed 3lbs 3 and 3lbs 6.

I've just got the newborn size for the hospital - I thought I might need some of the smaller stuff but hopefully not now!

Are your newborn clothes up to 9/ 10lb if so I would take tiny baby/ first size instead up to 7.5 lbs.
