Pushchairs (again, sorry!)

I have DTs 19wks and DD 23 months. We bought the ABC Adventure but unfortunately I'm not getting on with it too well. It's just so heavy with all 3 children in and even though I consider myself to be fairly fit and strong but I'm struggling with it. Doesn't help that I live in a pretty hilly area so a walk to the high street or DD's nursery is becoming impossible as the babies are getting heavier.

Also lifting it in and out of the car is difficult, it doesn't fit on public transport or into friends houses. I'm dissapointed as I'd read so many positive reviews and I know some really love it but it's not working for us.

I'm going to have to rethink!

Any suggestions for a good twin pushchair that can accommodate a buggy board for DD? Weight and ability to fit through doorways are important factors.

Im going to buy a couple of baby carriers to use with our single buggy for when DH and I are taking the children out together but need a way of transporting all 3 when I'm on my own.

We have a city jogger mini (tandem) fits on most busses and doorways. Very light and easy to steer. My sil is a childminder, had a buggy board on hers and had no probs with it.

I was just about to recommend the Everest before I started reading more. If you want a side by side I imagine your going to struggle to get it in people houses I'm afraid.

Think you need to measure doorways then go hunting for buggy widths!

I have the mountain buggy duet which is pretty narrow and fits though my front door. I find it quite heavy to lift in and out of the car, but i'm not very big myself. I have managed ok getting on trains. Don't know about buggy boards though, sorry.

We had an ancient mountain buggy that took a buggy board ok, until the eldest got too heavy, which didn't take long.

A lot of the time I did it with buggy + sling - so 2 babies in buggy while eldest walking, then when eldest got tired, he went inthe buggy and the lighter or more whiny baby went in the sling.

Then when twins were 1, I got a soft backpack carrier (Manduca) so I can carry one on the back, even the toddler if necessary.

I don't use buses though.

I would recommend the new out and about nipper.
It's side by side but narrow enough to fit through a single doorway. Takes a board fine and isn't too expensive. Can push one handed

It's annoying as there doesn't seem to be a perfect solution, but we've got the duet which is by far and away the narrowest side by side. There is a shooter thing that attaches like a buggy board - called a freerider. I think it'd be good if you've git an active older child. Our DDI was rubbish on it as she would sort of just fall off if she was tired!

So we do the sling/duet combo. I've got ego baby carriers and I find it quite easy to carry DD on my back, still. She's 2.5

I have a year old nipper, so probably wider than the new one, and it is very light to push. A marginal tendency to tip backwards when babies are reclined so you'd want to see how a board affected the balance, but it may actually help.
Fits through most doors to shops etc but a bit wide for lots of houses. Superb off road and on hills. We added 2 Phil and ted cocoons for the first few months but you're probably past that stage.

The ABC is 15kg for just the twin seats, add the toddler seat, twin boys at 16lbs each and toddler at 2 stone and I'm pushing 7 st

Taking weight and size into consideration, the Nipper looks like the best option. The Duet is narrower (would I be correct in saying its the narrowest SBS on the market?) but the same weight a my ABC (without third seat).

I do love the easy fold of the Baby Jogger City Mini so that's a close second.

Interesting that noone recommends the Bugaboo Donkey?

I'm going to look at the Nipper and BJCM next week and am ordering the baby carriers today. Hopefully I'll find the right combination/solution. Thanks for your help.

It put a strain on me with the abc Everest when I was pushing newborn boy twins and 2 toddler twins too lol. Only thing that annoys me now is it doesnt fit through the back door after having a kitchen refit.

We had a good look at pushchairs yesterday. I really liked the Mountain Buggy looks wise and for the ability to change the configuration but weight is an issue.

A surprise new entry to the list is the Maclaren Twin Techno! Light, easy to fold and store. I think the MTT combined with buggy board/baby carrier could work.

I've got the donkey and its lovely to pushchair to push very light but my twins are only 13 weeks and 10lb each. that said i love love love it!!!! :) :) :)

It fits through my front door inwards just but not when leaving??!! But i understood it wouldn't when i brought it, not found any shops it won't fit in yet and we walk to school and it fits the pavements and we have to go up an alley which it fits through easy to use in the car and ive seen it with a buggy board, I've also seen someone waiting to catch a bus with one

I would also say how much i love my bugaboo donkey. I have two DS (29 months and size months) but, i mind my godsons 30 months and 18 months so have used it with lots of different weight combos. It is a very good push and the buggy board is really sturdy.

I fit my donkey in my dads front door, easily on buses (through back door) but after practise its so easy to whip the right hand seat off and convert it into mono (so it'll fit through tiny doors!) that its no problem at all.

There is a solution! The abc single, with a double reclining seat on top! Narrow enough to go through a standard door way, the babies are facing you and nice and high up, your toddler can see out, and as the base is smaller, it's way lighter!
