Twin birth weights

I was just reading the high birthweight discussion, and really sympathise with some of you mums! My first set of twins were born 19 years ago, and were 18 days early. They weighed 5lb5oz and 6lb 6oz respectively. They were healthy babies, not needing special care, and the looked so small compared to other single babies born at the same time. Twins no. 2 were born just over 3 years later, at full term( I couldn't walk towards the end, which was great fun with two three year olds!) and weighed 8lb and 6lb 10oz!It was so nice, after the birth, being able to sit with my legs together without a huge weight resting on it!The fact that they're now hulking great teenagers, almost makes me look back with affection at those very tiring days! The fact that they are all girls is great, as it is wall to wall hormones most of the time!

Wow Twinsmum2! I'm in awe! No offence but for me having another set of twins in the near future is a nightmare that can only be superceded by the terrible thought of triplets arriving on the scene! Not that I don't think my twins, now 2 1/2,(born at 41 wks fat- 8lb & 6lb)are the business, you understand. They are fab but my belly still hasn't recovered and a semblance of normal life is only just creeping back in... I think I'll wait a couple more years at least before thinking about numbers 3 & 4!

Yes, being the mother of triplets is a shock! Mine will be four in Jan and I will be fifty in March! They were concieved using donor eggs in 1997 after the death of my only child Matthew in 1994. Yes they are exhausting and we both get very tired, but I think if I was twenty years younger it would be the same. Three times the trouble, but three times the joy, I am just sorry that Matthew is not here still, then I would be a very happy Mum. Its so hard to look at them and know that they are here because he is not. I could never have dreamed that my life would turn out this way.

I've only just come across Mumsnet so I'm having a bit of a look round some of the pages and couldn't resist looking at the one headed 'Multiple births'.

I have 2&ahalf year old boy/girl twins who are lovely but oh yes what hard work (I can hear all the triplet Mum's saying Twins? piece of cake!)

I was blissfully unaware for the first 4 months of the pregnancy that there were two babies as it wasn't picked up until my second scan - a shock to say the least but I wouldn't change it for the world (Even though boy twin has slept through the night 3 times in his life & girl twin not much better!)

Oh & they were induced 11 days early and weighed in at 5 pound 15 ozs & 6 pound 8 ounces.

I too was cruising - my girls were picke dup on the first scan - which was only supposed to e a dating one...ha ha and weighed in at 6lb15 and 6lb 15 1/2 oz and had to be induced at almost 39 weeks.
They are now 4 and can;t wait for christmas!!!
Yes I did get very differnt toys for them. Funny sometimes they want exactly the same...but normally if it belongs to older sister

I am a twin born 36 years ago and I weighed more (6 1/2 lbs) than my singleton son who was 6lbs 2oz and just popped out very easily.

A local mum had twins last year. All three of her previous babies had weighed between 10 and 11lbs, so no one was very surprised when the twins popped out weighing over 9lb each. I just can't imagine how that must have felt!

Have to laugh - I only have one daughter but she has a cousin 3 weeks younger. They insist they are twins and are aided and abetted by my mum who inists on making them matching handknitted sweaters, hats, scarves, backpacks, fleece skirts, etc.

My niece slept over here on Friday. She and DD had already planned their wardrobes when they'd met up a couple of days before so they were both wearing the same thing.

And of course, they prefer the same things for Xmas/birthdays etc.

My first set of twins were 6lb 13 and 7lb 12....second set were 7lb 5 and a half and 7lb 12....i was pregnant with triplets at first with the second set bit one didn't develop properly.

When i had my first set i already had 4 children of 8,5,3,2 ...it was very hard work..and then 3 years later had the other set of twins..been sterlized now-so no more for me (i secretly hope every month that and egg would get through though-but no such luck yet...lol)
