Multiple births

Has anyone had very strong positive on preg test early and had twins?

Hi we have twins in the family on both sides, and DH's sister had twin girls 2 months ago. When preg with DS my test results where very faint even when I was several days late. This time ultra early tests strong positive and clearblue used early very strong positive .

Out of interest I have read that a strong positive, (indicating high level of the hormones) could mean a multiple birth. Has anyone experienced this?

Winding DH up that could be twins this time .

My first test was very feint (expecting twins in January) I think that was the day I was due on and I don't remember the next one being very positive. Also as there are no twins in the family it never even crossed my mind that it could be twins, until I started to feel very sick and my bump seemed to grow much quicker than with dd.

Thanks Jua

I thought it might be interesting to see if I could guess as we did with my sil before her scan! She was being very sick and her bump was growing very fast.

Thanks

Could you not ask for an early scan?

I had an ectopic so got a scan at 8 weeks and you could clearly see both babies dancing around. Maybe if you said to the doctor about the chance of twins as my friend did this and it did turn out to be twins (girls eventually.) I know I ended up having scans every couple of weeks which was brilliant as I saw dst grow before they were born.

I'm going to mention it to my midwife when she rings to book my first appointment. See what happens

if you want to ask this of a wider audience ask over at www.twinsclub.co.uk forums.

Personally I did not do a test - I was temp charting and was sure I was pregnant so didn't waste the money . I didn't know til the dating scan at 11 weeks that it was twins - but I did feel really ill - swore I would not go through it again even if I lost the baby - luckily it was all ok so I have no urge to even think about getting pregnant again ! (pregnancy was not my finest time).

by the way - having twins is a real privilege - if bl**dy hard work to begin with

Thanks throckeholt. Would like twins but also worried about the work load with a 16mth already. Seen my sil this last 2 months with hers

the first few months are the worst ! I have ds1 who is 18 months older than my twins - so similar gap. I think we have survived and are just about sane (twins now nearly 3). Actually now it is getting to be fun most of the time - they actaully play together well (well some of the time anyway ).

Interesting that you thought that Throckenholt because although tiring to the extreme I find it harder work now mine are nearly 4 (as I keep saying!) I feel like I could open up a UN department for twin-relations!

I had a very strong positive with all of mine, twins and singletons.

I don't think that the strong positive means anything other than that you are pregnant.

Good luck if it is twins. Sod the house... cos you won't have the time to care.

Very strong positive for me too, the minute the first drop of wee hit the stick that was it, no waiting! Found out it was twins at 16 weeks when I looked full term .

I was pregnant the year before but miscarried at 11 weeks and the pregnancy test then was very faint after quite a wait. Not sure how relevant that is.

Agree that it's hard work but also very special.

Just high levels of hormones equalling lots of sickness for me .

I had lost a baby then went on to have ds1. DH suspected I was pg I did have a "pot belly" well bump and nearly passed out when he was proved right and it was a very very very positive result. Must have been just pg though say around 2-3 weeks and as stated confirmed twins at 6 weeks pg.

Having to wear baggy jumpers to hide stomach at work as not telling them yet! Told MIL this morning when dropped of DS that had bump already she said too early. Could just be my lack of stomach muscles !!!
