When I read this article , I thought, "well black women know this already". Then I thought, "or do they?" With so many choosing to go down the chemical route of relaxing, perming or the artificial route of weaves or braids, are we forgetting how to look after our natural hair? I wear mine in braids because with 2 year old twins, my hair is the last thing I want to be wasting time on, particularly as I work part-time and it is always a rush in the morning to get out the door on time.

I think that most of us do.

To be honest this would have been a better article if it commented on mixed race hair as well as mixed hair can act in the same way.

I know what you mean about 2 year old twins, that's why my head is shaved! lol

Hmm. Remembering back in the day when my mum used to comb and re-plait it every day for school...let's just say that I am glad I have boys and that I will be forever grateful for my relaxed hair .

Although, Ds1 (4) does prefer it when braided, but I only had this done in both pregnancies.

I'm glad that I have boys too! However, I do have to keep their hair well moisturised because it is very dry. I too would like to see an article on the trials of managing mixed race hair because I thought it would be easier than my natural afro crown but how wrong was I? At least with my DSs, I don't have to keep plaiting it or tying it up - I just comb and leave

my ds hair is impossible. He's mixed and his hair is more european than afro but very frizzy. It hasn't fully grown yet so he still has some sparse patches (!) but gets very tangled at the back. What products are good for mixed hair? Don't want to use any yet as he's only 19 mo but will need to when he has more hair due to tangles and dryness.

pinkmagic1 · 25/02/2006 22:55

Sounds like my DS hair. DH has afro hair but DS hair is much more European but thick and curly. I use Avon kids 2 in 1 shampoo for thick, wavy hair followed by Fructis repair and shine smoothing cream.

Thanks for tip, will look out for these. It's a complete mess but he doesn't have enough to plait or twist so I just run a comb through it every morning and he goes to nursery looking like he's had an electric shock

DS1 and DT2 have very thick curly hair. Of course DS1 is in senior school and has his hair short. I use Tresomme because it's very very good. For the girls, once their hair is washed I oil it and china bump it.

Motions is fantastic. Expectingsummer... Motions is fine. I used it on my DTs from very young. It comes in a large pink bottle and isn't very heavy at all. Smile
