French Speaking Playgroup - North London

Ponkey · 19/06/2011 21:21

Hello,

I'm mum to a great 19 months little boy. I'm French speaking, his dad is English speaking as well as the nursery he goes to.
I'd love him to have some French speaking friends but unfortunately all Franch speaking playgroups are either during the week (I workfull time) or in South London.

I'm based in Kentish Town and would be really happy to start something! Please get in touch if you are interested or know anyone who'd be!

Thanks!

Corinne

Hi Corinne.
My husband is French and speaks to our 20 month year old daughter in French. We are trying to bring her up bilingually and would love for her to have some bilingual French/English friends. We moved to Friern Barnet from Kentish Town a couple of years ago. We'd be happy to help start a playgroup. Has anyone else got back to you?

Helen

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your message! I've posted a few messages around and you are actually the first to reply!
I'd love to start something on weekends (as we both work full-time) maybe 1 or 2 Saturday a month to start with and hopefully find a few more families who would be interested.
Do you know any other French speaking families?

Corinne

Hi Christelle & Naich,

That's great! What about meeting up next week (20-21.08)? If the weather is nice we could go to the playground in Hampstead Heath.

Hi Corinne, Christelle and Helen,

I was just wondering if you did meet up and think about starting up a French-speaking playgroup? I live in north London too (Haringey) and would love to take my 15 month old daughter to a French group on a Saturday... Please let me know!

Thanks!

Hi,

I would be interested in coming along to a French playgroup on a Saturday (I am also around during the week). I speak French to my 2 year old daughter Lydia.

I have just set up a French drop in group for the under 5's called Bonjour Nenette, that runs in Highbury on Friday mornings at 10am (just for an hour). If you know anyone who wants to sing songs and do little games in French, please pass them details of the group! www.bonjour-nenette.co.uk/

Good luck with the playgroup,
Joanne

Hello, Just for info, there is a french-speaking playgroup based in Hackney - I haven't been but have friends who go and really enjoy it. If you get on their mailing list, they often have meetups and events on weekends.

My husband is also a french speaker so I look forward to hearing if you start your own playgroup.

I'm really keen to meet other French speaking mums and kids or babies. I have a 2 and a half month old girl who I speak French to but I'd love to speak French to a few adults!! I live in Gospel Oak and am pretty mobile. I'm around during the week.

Hello, i've ready these postings from over a year ago, and I'm really hoping there's a group I could join! We are moving from France to Finchley with 5 and 3 year old boys. I'm desperate to keep up their French and meet some other French speaking kids. If you can help, anywhere around Noth London-ish, PLEASE let me know! Many thanks.

Hi All,

I've just came accross this thread and I know it's a bit old but we never know, you might be interested!
I am setting up a playgroup in french based on scientific research to facilitate bilingualism and/or the acquisition of a new language for non-french speakers parents.
It starts on monday 23rd of september 2013 and it will run every monday
WHERE: Highgate chapel (Chetwynd road NW5)
WHEN: 9.30am and if you missed that one you have a second chance at 10.45am!
Hope that helped!

Lily :)

Hi Lily,

I saw your posting about starting a French playgroup. Before I head down I just wanted to check it is up and running and ask if you can provide any more details - for example is there a cost?

Thanks

Emilie

Hi Emily,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I've just seen your reply!
So the playgroup runs for 45minutes-1h and that includes tea and coffee with discussion about children's development.
It's based on scientific research on the child's brain and how a child process the acquisition of language.
So there are songs, finger plays, stories, poems and each week I'm introducing a new topic. Today was body parts so after a story we play a game with cards where children points carry or even say the names of the cards!
There is also a bit of running jumping and marching!
It's all in French but I have some English subtitles to explain what are the topics for example!
The cost is £7, but at the moment I'm charging only £5 as its the beginning... :)
I hope I answered your questions.
If not, you can email me: lilydonate at hotmail dot com

Looking forward to meeting you and your little one!

Lily

Hello,
I am French and the mother of a 2 year old. Looking for a french speaking playgroup in North london. Or looking to start one.
I would go to your classes, lilydonate, but I am not available on mondays.

Anybody up for meeting up on fridays around hampstead or the heath?

Hi 'ponyandpanda'

I'm actually getting more people coming and I've changed the location from the hall to my place as it actually improves concentration and involvement in activities, in a smaller , more intimate environment.
Because of the space, there is 4-5 children per class.
The two things combined, I'm thinking of opening another class on Friday morning.
The other plus side is that it's cheaper:£4 per child.
If you're interested in getting involved with this new class, please let me know.
You can email me at lilydonate at hotmail dot com

See you soon hopefully :)

Hello,

I am French and the mother of a 14 month old boy. My husband is British and we have a full-time French nanny. We live in Clerkenwell, EC1. I would love to have my baby boy join a French Speaking playgroup or class in our area (Islington) both during the week and/or the week end as he goes to English playgroups every day and I feel that he needs to meet other bilingual kids, at this stage.

Many thanks for your replies!

Hello Alice

It would be good to meet up since our baby boys are about same age and we seem to be based in a similar area. My boy goes to English playgroups in N1 almost every day during term time. If you are not on holiday in August, please drop me a line at [email protected] so we can meet up.
Cheers

Nathalie
