Myself & people i know use the word coolie to describe someone who is half black half indian. Some coolie people have sraight but course hair some have course curly hair others have soft hair it differs just like mixed race people who are white/black the hair can be of any texture. But the majority of Coolie people i have seen have had course wavy hair.

Careful though! Some ppl are offended by the term Coolie. My DP is 'Coolie' and as his hair is short, it is similar to Chinese hair (it looks dead straight), but when it is longer, it grows out instead of down (like an afro), with soft curls.
Apparently, Coolie hair is very sought after (at least in Trinidad!).
DP is not offended by 'Coolie' and can't give me a suitable alternative. But be careful where you use the term because he likens it to the N word. Also, I teach in a school with a large W.Indian intake, and we are not allowed to use the term 'Coolie'.
Personally, I think 'Coolie' sounds...well...Cool!
