Any examples for me to watch?

I didn't see the twist in the usual suspects coming, also the orphanage, any similar films?

I was going to suggest the Orphanage. I'm probably a bit daft but I didn't see the twist coming in The Others.

Heavensmells Mon 26-Nov-12 01:45:50

The Prestige with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. I loved the twist at the end.

Orphan - not to be confused with The Orphanage - fab film, that.

<<Resists urge to state the obvious one>>

Cynner Mon 26-Nov-12 01:57:00

I did not see the twist coming in the "sixth sense"..the movie still scares me..

peggysuenotmarried Mon 03-Dec-12 19:25:33

All of the above plus Fight Club, Memento, Shutter Island, Oldboy, Planet of the Apes and The Crying Game.
(Oldboy is a tough watch - be warned)

The only one that comes to mind is Fight Cub.

club blush

SinisterBuggyMonth Mon 03-Dec-12 23:36:53

Vanilla sky
The Game
Wild Things

Wallison Mon 03-Dec-12 23:40:21

I don't see how anybody could have seen the twist coming in Vanilla Sky. However I didn't see the twist in any of the films mentioned above; think I must be an undemanding viewer.

OldBoy is a cracking film! And I'm not really a big fan of fight scenes in films but there is one in particular there that is brilliant (the corridor bit).

glamourousgranny42 Tue 18-Dec-12 21:06:45

Shutter island and in a similar vein A Beautiful Mind as I didn't know the story behind it.

NoGinorWine4Mu1berry Thu 10-Jan-13 14:02:47

The Prestige. That was a very clever film. I really liked it. I watched it again and realised that you're the viewer on two different levels really.

iseenodust Thu 10-Jan-13 14:07:50

Sixth sense got me too.

im sure there's a film ive seen recently that had a twist i wasnt expecting.

will ask dh tonight or tomorrow (he's away), so im marking my place so i hopefully dont forget

Aside from those mentioned, I saw 'One Day' recently and didn't see that coming. I actually gasped! maybe because it was the first interesting thing that happened

My sister told me there was a 'huge twist' in sixth sense so unfortunately I worked it out in the first 10 minutes and it ruined the film for me.

Dillydollydaydream Thu 10-Jan-13 14:23:48

Sixth sense and the others.

readyforno2 Thu 10-Jan-13 14:23:51

First film I thought of was the others but also Remember Me. Cried like a baby...

ShatnersBassoon Thu 10-Jan-13 14:32:05

I watched The Prestige last night. The twist really made me shock too, and I'm usually a real arse who likes to spoil films by loudly predicting what's going to happen.

Trills Thu 10-Jan-13 14:32:58

Just being told "this movie has a twist" is enough to put you on high alert.

cookielove Thu 10-Jan-13 14:39:31

- the sixth sense
- remember me <sad times>
- shutter island
- the latest twilight blush
- the others
- the orphan
- the descent
- primal fear
-

myhandslooksoold Thu 10-Jan-13 14:41:44

I didn't see the twist in the sixth sense and when I watched it for the second time I STILL didn't see it coming (dumb brunette)

FellatioNels0n Thu 10-Jan-13 14:48:56

One Day (although I read the book first so strictly speaking I did see it coming in the film) and the Sixth Sense - OMG!!!!

Another one (in book form admittedly but I would not be surprised if it makes it to the big screen) is The Dinner by Herman Koch. Great book, leaves you reeling a bit at the end, going 'WTF?' shock

FellatioNels0n Thu 10-Jan-13 14:50:55

nomore I remember 'that bit' in the book of One Day and gasping out loud 'Aaah?! No!!!! That can't happen!!!!'

agree with one day. read the book first and kept rereading the previous few pages as i thought id missed something blush

totally forgot about it and in the film it made me jump and i was so shock

NoGinorWine4Mu1berry Fri 11-Jan-13 19:15:34

starter for ten a much better book. no twist but it was just better and funnier. the understudy and one day coasted on starter for ten's success (imo)

bruffin England Fri 11-Jan-13 19:21:18

I hadnt read the book of One Day and i jumped out of my skin and knocked my glasses off.
I got sixth sense a minute before the reveal.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Fri 11-Jan-13 19:33:30

YY trills - I have still never seen the sixth sense, but the adverts and knowledge there's a twist is enough to guess it.

Memento is a good one.

zippy539 Fri 11-Jan-13 19:44:57

Another vote for The Game - the only film I've ever seen that left me reeling, plot-wise.

FairyJen Fri 11-Jan-13 19:48:36

Agree old boy is an absolutely brilliant film but it is a bit weird/twisted

FairyJen Fri 11-Jan-13 19:49:22

wallison the corridor scene was filmed in one continuous tale which I found impressive!

< geek >

BarbieDahl Fri 11-Jan-13 19:52:44

When i read the book 'we need to talk about Kevin' the twist at the end (the fact that her husband was dead and yet she was writing to him)) totally floored me but in the film it didn't come across at all.
I was so disappointed.
Otherwise yy to
The Others
Usual Suspects
Shawshank Redemption (when he rips the poster off the wall)

ByTheWay1 Fri 11-Jan-13 19:56:28

Bridge to Terabithia got me - a kids film where a major child character dies out of the blue - the cinema was in shock - all these little kids watching.....

Shakey1500 Greece Fri 11-Jan-13 19:56:36

Shawshank Redemption here also. Had never heard of it, stumbled across it late one night. I was totally lost in the film and honestly thought it had ended when the screen went black. Sat there and thought "ahhh that was a really well made film" and then it carried on.

I ended up on the floor, eyes glued to the screen and punched the air when it finished grin

Couldn't stop talking about it for ages!

NoGinorWine4Mu1berry Sat 12-Jan-13 16:12:51

I saw memento and thought it was rubbish!

drownangels Sun 13-Jan-13 16:40:42

When i read the book 'we need to talk about Kevin' the twist at the end (the fact that her husband was dead and yet she was writing to him)) totally floored me but in the film it didn't come across at all.
Thanks for that Barbie hmm
I am currently reading the book after seeing the film recently!! Might as well not bother now!

cumfy Mon 14-Jan-13 14:35:38

Another vote for Memento.
Life of Pi (book) has a very big twist, but don't know how it's represented in the film.
Mulholland Drive is one humungous twist.hmm

swanthingafteranother Tue 15-Jan-13 12:53:05

Up in the Air with man from ER whatsisname, when woman he meets in bar turns out to be married with kids. Brilliant and disquieting twist.
The Village..although watching it second time it was not scary at all once you kmew the twist, ditto The Others.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Tue 15-Jan-13 16:55:10

George Clooney is who you mean smile. And I agree, didn't see that one coming.

MrsMaryCooper Tue 15-Jan-13 17:00:16

The Sixth Sense got me completely.

And The Usual Suspects.

Can't think of any others that have.

PoppyWearer Tue 15-Jan-13 17:05:24

Seven

The Others

tearsofrobertsmith Sun 20-Jan-13 19:47:28

The Village is a beaut! Love that film!

Cornsyilk99 Sun 20-Jan-13 19:55:34

Seven - god yes...that's a shocking twist

Signs has a good twist that ties everything up really well

Usual suspects is brilliant

Some radio DJ had talked about the twist from sixth sense before i saw it so I knew that one

I didn't find the twist in We need to talk about Kevin that shocking after everything that had already happened. Agree that the film was a let down.

Same with the boy in the striped pyjamas. The ending twist wasn't that shocking given the setting.

onedev Sun 20-Jan-13 20:00:59

Sixth Sense & The Village - didn't see either of those coming!

FruitOwl Tue 22-Jan-13 16:12:26

What about Dead Man's Shoes? I love that film and will never forget the first time I watched it. The way the story unfolds is just so absorbing and I thought about it for weeks afterwards. It is quite bleak though.

mellowdramatic Thu 30-May-13 23:44:38

I really enjoyed "the getaway" for the twist

mellowdramatic Thu 30-May-13 23:50:41

Try again - I really enjoyed "A perfect getaway" for the twist

The village, actually had to rewind it to see if I had missed something. Brilliant film though

Million Dollar Baby
Amazing film, could never watch it twice knowing the end.

MardyBra Fri 31-May-13 00:01:56

The Crying Game. Biggest twist ever!

joanofarchitrave Fri 31-May-13 00:13:36

I never see any twists coming, and usually don't understand them when they arrive.

The Usual Suspects.

boogiewoogie Sun 02-Jun-13 23:11:42

Most of mine have been mentioned. If you haven't read the book then "The Boy in Striped" pyjamas had me guessing and I was still shocked.

seasalt Sun 02-Jun-13 23:18:00

Remember Me, just wasn't expecting it at all sad.

PurpleAlert Sun 02-Jun-13 23:22:58

The sixth sense- we were lucky enough to see this film without the MiL getting to us first with comments about the " twist" at the end!

whatkungfuthat Wed 19-Jun-13 14:57:15

I watched Memento for the first time the other night, it just made me cross.

Oldboy
Safety Not Guaranteed not a twist exactly, more a disbelief it actually ended that way.

And donnie darko I have watched about 3 times. Missing the point completely. I thought it was about an alien rabbit abdicating him.

MrsAMerrick Mon 07-Oct-13 21:38:23

The Usual Suspects - I really didn't see that one coming. Brilliant film.

I was tipped off about The Crying Game before I saw it, so that got spoiled, but watched it with DH on DVD a few years ago and he had no idea - the look on his face was priceless!
