I'm just watching the Matrix for the second time in my life. Had no idea what it was all about the first time but this time.......I have my DH explaining what on earth is going on!!!!
What was that film that everyone raved about last year? Lots of different dimensions? I sat like
Moulin Rouge...couldn't get into it & was so irritated after 1/2 an hour we turned it off.
yeah donnie darko
friend took me to see directors cut in some weird arty cinema in london, which was lovely of him... but i didn't appreciate it!
i've read aboutt he film, but can't really reconcile it with what I saw!
I think I'm generally fairly intelligent, but i just don't geddit!
12 Monkeys have watched it a couple of times. Always have a moment of clarity at the end when it all makes sense, then I forget and become confused again
It was inception harriet!! I had to watch it about 4 times and get it explained!!
I watched "Tree of Life" because of all the Oscar buzz and amazing reviews.
After 45 mins, nobody had spoken yet and we were about 20mins in to a montage of the evolution of the earth (planets, dinosaurs, flowers)
Utterly, utterly, utterly bizarre and pointless.
Thanks Emma. Dh didn't get it either and he's a geek for that sort of stuff.
Glengarry glen Ross. Won loads of awards. Didn't get it at all.
I'm convinced the Matrix is just nonsense and some huge practical joke.
And as for inception .......................
I loved Inception but still not really getting the Matrix
I don't get any of the Tarantino films
I love 12 monkeys and Inception, and the Matrix but I think that's cos I love special effects and read a fair amount of sci-fi books. Maybe my head just fills in the gaps with surrealist crap, so I don't really understand them per se, I just enjoy them for what they are...errant nonsense
Now talking about films I never got, 'Get Shorty' was the one that stuck in my head. John Travolta and Danny Devito. At the time it was released, in 95, everyone was saying how funny it was. I had a few people round for a video and takeaway evening and it was an utter flop. Just not funny at all.
Also, please don't get me on Mama Mia. Crap in a box.
kellamity I am sat with my DSis watching The Matrix atm too, I must've seen it 50 times and I love it, she's on second watch and hating it! DH didn't last past the credits! It's worth persevering though
I didn't get Big Fish (weird),Transformers (why the hype?) and The Butterfly Effect (headache after first ten minutes).
**Spoiler for Inception**
The thing about Inception is that it's a happy ending, whether or not he's awake. If I remember correctly, if he's awake then he's back with his kids. If he's asleep, at least he's with his kids and hopefully will be happy the rest of his 'life'. Win-win.
At least that's what I tell myself.
And no, I didn't understand it either.
Nor why everyone reveres Robert Deniro. He is Robert Deniro in every role. Same as Judi Dench. Grrrr... I feel a rant coming on!
I have tried to watch the Matrix quite a few times now, and have never managed to stay awake through it.
I'm not even the kind of person who normally falls asleep during films - it just doesn't hold my attention at all!
I know there are loads of films I don't get, but I can't think of any of them at the moment... I have obviously erased them from my memory.
All of the Matrix films
The Changeling
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Donni Darko - wtf??
The Firm (Tom Cruise early 90s blockbuster). I've seen it four or five times and its gradually dawned on me that, due to editing, there is quite a large chunk of plot completely missing which makes the movie totally unfathomable in the last quarter.
I loved Inception! Made my brain hurt a bit but thought it was brilliant.
What I didn't get was Kingdom of Heaven. What on earth was the point in defending Jerusalem and getting loads of people killed if you were going to hand it over to Saladin, who seemed a pretty decent chap, anyway??
And why didn't Orlando Bloom get rid of Guy de Lusignan? He was a liability and it was more trouble in the long run... Nothing was explained properly.
That thing with Tom Cruise. and Cameron Diaz.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Never understood what the message was supposed to be. It was never more than the sum of its parts, and though some of those parts were impressive it was ultimately unsatisfying.
Felt it was a bit of an emperor's new clothes film.
American Beauty, did not get that one at all. The ending just kind of dropped off if I remember correctly. It certainly didn't live up to all the hype it was getting at the time
Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Mamma Mia... I don't really understand the point of watching musicals on film especially when the singers are people who should stick to acting. And Dirty Dancing. Sorry. I just don't see what all the fuss was about. I've watched Star Wars more often - and I really don't like Star Wars.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
A phone rings in an empty room in London.
A man walks down a Paris Street.
Rain in Budapest.
BANG
Someone's been shot! Micheal Caine already knew
ad infinitem.
well, 2 hours of it anyway
