Of Mice & Maltesers - chat thread for round five!

(171 Posts)

Looking forward to some good books. Should be interesting...

Dysgu Sun 30-Sep-12 18:56:58

There seem to be two new threads started so I thought I would just add myself to this one...

There were some interesting choices on the last round so looking forward to seeing what comes round this time.

How did I manage that? I'll ask MN to delete the other one so it doesn't get confusing. (It doesn't take much to confuse me these days!)

artifarti Sun 30-Sep-12 21:48:09

Marking place...

Are we voting on the last round this time?

aristocat Sun 30-Sep-12 22:05:53

Found you smile Will be posting tomorrow to Lola

LolaLadybird Sun 30-Sep-12 22:47:24

Hi All - good to be back! I'm really looking forward to some new books. Will probably post to AP on Tuesday (have the book, need to source chocolate!) smile

aristocat Mon 01-Oct-12 19:47:50

Lola you should get it in the next few days, I posted today. Lovely to have you back in the circle smile

stickylittlefingers Wed 03-Oct-12 10:27:00

hello! Nice to be back smile Have sent you your book'n'choc arti

LolaLadybird Wed 03-Oct-12 21:42:53

Arti - book and choc arrived today and am looking forward to getting stuck into both. Was lovely to come home to a book/choc package again after a few months away smile.

AP - sent yours first class today so hopefully with you tomorrow.

Great - look forward to it. SLF, I sent yours yesterday. This is exciting!

Hi all

Arti - received your book and choc was delicious!!

Looking forward to getting stuck in ...

artifarti Thu 04-Oct-12 16:23:47

slf - thanks for the book and choc. Your choice of book is really interesting when you see what I have chosen (which you won't of course for months! smile)

stickylittlefingers Thu 04-Oct-12 18:36:27

I will try to hold that thought arti!

I've a nasty feeling that my book arrived today, but I missed it - had one of those cards sad I was only out the back hanging the clothes too, not like I was having fun or anything. Oh well, hopefully Saturday. Am running a marathon on Sunday so I'll deserve the chocolate grin

aristocat Sun 07-Oct-12 22:43:57

Dysgu thanks for the book and chocolate smile will start reading as soon as I have finished what I am reading now.

Has everyone else got their books now?

Dysgu Sat 20-Oct-12 11:46:53

I have no book! I know I am not really in a position to complain as I am so often late in posting - but I am lounging here on the sofa and suddenly fancied some chocolate, which made me realise no book (or chocolate) had arrived.

Anyone heard anything of JohnWorf?

Dysgu, sorry - I've just seen this. Have you got a book yet? Let me know, and I'll email Johnworf, but I'm sure she sent me an email ages ago to say she'd posted. I hope I've given her the right details to post to...

aristocat Mon 22-Oct-12 21:12:24

I know JohnWorf will ask her now.

aristocat Mon 22-Oct-12 21:25:09

Dysgu I have messaged JohnWorf and it was posted over a week ago. Looks like Royal Mail are on a go-slow.

Dysgu Tue 23-Oct-12 21:05:50

Thanks aristo - it can take a bit of time to cross the water and the ferries have been cancelled because of the fog a few times so I will just wait... (and continue to send DP to the shop for chocolate!)

johnworf Fri 26-Oct-12 23:24:11

Hi there ladies. I posted Dysgu's book aggges ago! I hope it doesn't bounce back to me. Sorry it's not with you yet. Bloody RM! hmm

johnworf Mon 29-Oct-12 09:15:56

I'm just about to post of this month's offering to you Dysgu. For some reason, two books turned up together (I had a note saying one is early) so you've got 3 altogether ...hoping they all turn up!
x

I'm posting to you johnworf ....aren't I???

Oh dear, and it was all going so smoothly... I'll have a look at the posting details tomorrow when I can get into the PC. Did everyone get a book last month?

OK, here goes... At the beginning of October:

Lolaladybird sent her book to me.
My book went StickyLittleFingers
StickyLittleFingers' book went to ArtiFarti
ArtiFarti's book went to ItsJustaFleshWound
ItsJustaFleshwound's book went to JohnWorf
JohnWorf's book went to Dysgu
Dysgu's book went to Artistocat
Artistocat's book went to LolaLadybird

At the start of November:
I should have Aristocat's book
SLF should have LolaLadybirds's book (I sent it off today)
Arti should have my book
ItsJustaFleshwound should have SLF's book
JohnWorf should have Arti's book
Dysgu should have ItsJustaFleshwound's book
Aristocat should have JohnWorf's book
LolaLadybird should have Dysgu's book

Do we all have the right books, or is someone going in a different direction? grin

Dysgu Tue 30-Oct-12 22:30:37

I am away from home right now so I don't know if any books - or little cards - have arrived in the past couple of days. However, nothing had arrived before we left on Sunday so I am not sure what is happening.

I will be home late on Saturday and if JohnWorf's book has arrived I can send it straight on to Aristocat (although will take out chocolate and replace...)

johnworf Tue 30-Oct-12 23:00:59

I think what has happened is thus: when we finished the last round, my book came back to me along with another book. I didn't know why.

I figure that now that book is back in the circle, when the person it belongs to eventually gets it, then take it back out if the system.

Sorry for confusion. Not helped by Royal Mail not delivering Octobers book!

Thanks for this.

stickylittlefingers Wed 31-Oct-12 23:07:40

I have posted a book to arti today, which was AP's book. Which I loved. All good. Will look out for new book tomorrow!

LolaLadybird Thu 01-Nov-12 13:04:08

Hi. I have posted Aristocat's book to AP today, hopefully with you tomorrow. Really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one.

aristocat Thu 01-Nov-12 17:22:53

What was the favourite book from the last round? Have we not decided or did I miss it?

I will be able to post to you on Monday Lola just need a few days longer to finish it smile

LolaLadybird Thu 01-Nov-12 17:50:35

No problem Aristo - I will start on something else in the meantime. Have just finished Something Might Happen by Julie Myerscough. Has anyone read it? Very, very sad - was blubbing at the end ... sad

I got it today, thanks Lola - it's one I've been meaning to read for ages, so I can't wait to get started.

artifarti Sat 03-Nov-12 12:42:21

Book received slf - and excellent chocolate choice!

Itsjusta we have been down in Devon all week so tardy at posting. Will be in the post on Monday; it's only a slim jim so hopefully won't take long to read.

I haven't received my book back from the last round - johnworf, did it get to you in the end?

Has everyone started threads on their book?

Dysgu Sat 03-Nov-12 19:52:24

Hi all,
We have just arrived home after a week in London - not a relaxing holiday but lots of business being tourists!

Anyway, I have just opened a parcel containing two books, both of which have got Arti's name inside them. One of them came this way on the last round so I am guessing that one needs to go home to Arti? I think I must have sent this one to JohnWorf on the last round and it has come back this way instead of carrying on its way... (*Arti*- if you PM me your address, I will send your book home - is CoL by KM.)

The other book must be Arti's from this round which must be my book for this month.

JohnWorf's book for last month has not arrived - should I sort out getting a replacement? (If so, JohnWorf, can you PM me your book choice for this round please?)

All of this means that I do not have a book to send to aristocat for this month.

aristocat Mon 05-Nov-12 21:50:56

sad sad @ no book this month already. I will post to you tomorrow lola

johnworf Tue 06-Nov-12 20:48:04

Ok so the mystery of the extra book is solved smile Thanks dysgu. I am really fed up with Royal Mail. I can't believe you got the second book parcel before the first one. I'm glad I put my name on the back of the packet...I do hope it comes back to me.

I can only apologise on their behalf dysgu sad I'll PM you my choice.

Thank you for the book and choc - they arrived today.

Dysgu, do you want us to postpone posting at the end of this month to let you catch up?

LolaLadybird Thu 08-Nov-12 21:29:37

Aristo - thank you for the book and yummy chocolates, they arrived today. Looks like a goodie ...

johnworf Tue 13-Nov-12 12:14:52

So today, the postman brought my book back that I sent to Dysgu back in October. It says on the package tried to deliver on 12th October and the package 'was not called for' hmm I'm betting no card was left for this and they've just taken it straight back to the depot and NOT FECKING TOLD ANYONE. Pah!

angry

stickylittlefingers Fri 16-Nov-12 12:14:13

I posted to arti. I know it's early, but I thought with Christmas and everything coming up, if I didn't post now I'd probably forget til February... plus if Arti does have time spare now it might be helpful.

johnworf I had that with a parcel I tried to send to aristo last round. It is REALLY annoying, I sympathise.

Dysgu Fri 16-Nov-12 20:53:29

The replacement book (JW's choice) arrived yesterday so will be packaged and in the post to aristocat tomorrow. I have recorded the title on my wishlist and will catch up at some stage - probably over Christmas or even next spring once I start my maternity leave.

As for 'not being called for' - that is odd as we have FABULOUS postmen here! I was sent home from work last Thursday and arrived home to 2 red cards telling me I had to go to the sorting office to pick things up - one Royal Mail and one Parcel Force.

Within 20 minutes of me walking through the door, our RM postman was knocking at the door, "I saw you drive past me on * Road so thought I would bring this package back."

I asked if he happened to have the other parcel too (both needed to be signed for as otherwise they leave everything with neighbours) - he checked the card for me and told me it would be 'Andy...he's still around. If I see him I will send him back."

My other parcel, with Andy from PF, was in my hands within ten minutes (I was still on the phone with my mum after coming through the door having been sent home from work!)

Anything not needing a signature is left two doors down - this is a regular thing so unless we had a stand-in postman....

Anyway, no worries about posting as long as aristo has time to read it before the end of the month.

artifarti Sat 17-Nov-12 16:54:14

Thanks slf! That's really handy actually as I'm starting a course in January so trying to read course books as well but have no time to read anything! The book looks nice and seasonal too smile Thanks for the chocolate too - the last one just had seasalt in but this has caramelly bits too - it's just about the most perfect chocolate!

stickylittlefingers Sat 17-Nov-12 19:37:09

Excellent on all fronts smile

artifarti Sun 18-Nov-12 17:10:25

itsjusta - I have finished AP's book so let me know if you would like it earlier to give you more time over Christmas.

aristocat Thu 22-Nov-12 22:12:11

no book yet for me sad

have you posted it Dysgu?

aristocat Mon 26-Nov-12 14:37:04

I am still book-less sad

Oh dear - I will email Dysgu tonight and see if it's been posted.

Dysgu Mon 26-Nov-12 21:00:48

Hi all - I did replace the book and gave it to DP last week to post from the mainland in the hope that it would reach aristocat quicker that way. He passed it to his admin assistant and will chase it up tomorrow and check that it did actually leave the office!

I also still have arti's book from the last round as it made its way back to me - I think it came in the wrong direction. Please PM me the address so that it can make its way home, arti

Hope all are well..

grin. Happy St Andrew's day!

SLF, I've not finished the book yet, but have ordered it out the library, so I'll post at the weekend. Have the MIA books turned up yet? Do we need to pause for a month to let people catch up? Let me know what you think.

aristocat Fri 30-Nov-12 23:42:30

Hi all, thanks Dysgu the book arrived today with lovely choccy smile
I will send it on as soon as I can but will apologise in advance to Lola that it wil be late .....

Maybe waiting a month and posting Jan - OK by me AP

LolaLadybird Sat 01-Dec-12 11:51:09

AP - I was also thinking we should wait a month as we are definitely behind at this end of the chain. I might then be able to finish the book I have currently (which I was otherwise going to send on unfinished). Also, as Aristo has only just got Nov's book, I think it unlikely we will both get through it this month with it being so busy.

artifarti Sun 02-Dec-12 16:16:38

I am happy to wait but I already have December's book so does this mean that I wait until February to post it on confused.

Dysgu - will PM you my address, thanks.

stickylittlefingers Thu 06-Dec-12 23:02:31

I have the book AP many thanks! I think that's right arti, the books you and I have now we don't send on til 1 February. As if we hadn't got them yet and received them on 1 January.

Yes, I think that's right too, but it's got very confusing confused

aristocat Thu 13-Dec-12 09:02:57

Hi all, I will be able to send your next book at the end of Dec Lola. I am about halfway through ATM ......

Got the book today, thanks, Lola. It's another biggie, although it's one that I've always wanted to read. Here's to a peaceful christmas break, with lots of reading time.

aristocat Sat 29-Dec-12 21:33:04

Lola your next book is on its way - it was posted yesterday smile

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and all the best for 2013 x

Dysgu Sat 05-Jan-13 12:54:56

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and is enjoying a Happy New Year.

aristo your book has gone in the post this morning...

aristocat Sat 05-Jan-13 15:55:46

thanks Dysgu I cannot wait! Have been trying to decide which book to read next and now my decision has been made for me grin

artifarti Sun 06-Jan-13 16:39:27

itsjusta - two books and chocolate posted to you yesterday. I have explained in the note that one book is January's and one is February's (they were posted to me early). Enjoy!

Thank you - I got them in the mail today. Much excitement - DS thought Father Christmas had come again ....

Chocolate reserves have also been topped up ... Yippee, as those last few Quality Street were looking very lonely (no one likes the orange creams...)

aristocat Mon 07-Jan-13 23:18:54

Itsjust orange creams are my DSs fave, have to wrestle them from his hands I tell ya! Enjoy your books smile

aristocat Tue 08-Jan-13 09:46:13

Dysgu thank you, the book has just arrived the same day DCs are back at school. Perfect timing.

lisa2104 Tue 08-Jan-13 10:28:54

I've just come across this. How does it work.

artifarti Tue 08-Jan-13 10:36:20

Hi lisa, there's a few of these going. You basically just get a few people together, agree on what kind of books you do/don't like reading, each choose a book and then once a month you each post a book to the next person on the list. Ours has been going for about four years now and it's a great way to read things you wouldn't normally have chosen.

Dysgu Tue 08-Jan-13 22:51:34

Has anyone 'seen' anything of Johnworf recently? I always feel bad about coming onto the thread to say my book hasn't arrived again as I am usually so late in posting myself - but my book hasn't arrived again?!

Dysgu Tue 15-Jan-13 00:19:04

Me again - still no book and I am having to buy my own chocolate too!

Oops, this had slipped off my "threads I'm on". I'll drop her a line, Dysgu.
I had your book this month, and I thought it was brilliant. I read it in about three days over the holidays.

Dysgu Wed 16-Jan-13 21:19:10

Thanks AP - I did send her a PM but it looks like she has not posted since Jan 2nd so maybe she hasn't been online.

stickylittlefingers Thu 17-Jan-13 11:22:20

hello! Happy New Year all smile I have received the book+choc today, thanks AP

Dysgu, JW is posting both books today. Will that be Nov & Jan, or Jan & Feb? I'm on my phone so can't access the swap spreadsheet, but let me know if you're not sure whose book you should have IYSWIM.

Dysgu Thu 17-Jan-13 20:41:09

Hi AP I have no idea which/whose book I should have. Shall I wait until they arrive and ten send you a PM to see which I should read first to send quickly on to aristo ?

I did send a book at the start of the month so perhaps it is Jan and Feb books heading to me..

stickylittlefingers Sun 20-Jan-13 16:36:28

Just C&P'd from AP's post earlier:

At the start of November:
I (AP) should have Aristocat's book
SLF should have LolaLadybirds's book (I sent it off today)
Arti should have my book
ItsJustaFleshwound should have SLF's book
JohnWorf should have Arti's book
Dysgu should have ItsJustaFleshwound's book
Aristocat should have JohnWorf's book
LolaLadybird should have Dysgu's book

So right now (which is 1 December, and we missed 1 Jan out)

AP = Dysgu (in fact she's sent it to me already)
SLF= Aristocat
Arti = Lola
Itsjustafleshwound = AP
JohnWorf = SLF
Dysgu = Arti
Aristocat = Itsjustafleshwound
Lola = John Worf

And 1 Feb

AP = JW
SLF = Dysgu
Arti =Aristo
IJAF= lola
JW = AP
Dysgu= SLF
Aristo = Arti
Lola = IJAF

is that helpful?

Dysgu Sun 20-Jan-13 19:24:02

I still have no book but I guess the snow might have held it up if it is in the post somewhere... when a book arrives, I will check the list slf and see where I am up to!

Dysgu, have you got a book yet? You should have got OTBH by BC to read during January, to send on to Aristocat next week. Have you already read and passed on TWWWTBFAY by ST?

Does everyone else have the right book?

This is so confusing. confused

aristocat Sat 26-Jan-13 20:23:04

AP I already have the BC book <<more confusion>>

Dysgu Sat 26-Jan-13 21:22:35

Hi AP and aristo O picked up the books at the sorting office today having missed the postman yesterday.

I have: T by PO'B chosen by SLF and TWWWTOBFAY by ST chosen by IJAF.

So, looking at the post above - the ST one is for February and I already sent OTBH to Aristo???

Right, I've had a look and I think that at the start of February, this is what we should all have:

Lolaladybird should have TWWWTBFAY by ST
AgentProvocateur should have RBE by JK
StickyLittleFingers should have M by E
ArtiFarti should have TTT by ??
ItsJustAFleshWound should have TSC by EI
JohnWorf should have TCoS by SG
Dysgu should have T by Po'B
Aristocat should have OTBH by BC

So, Dysgu, T is your right book for Feb, and Aristocat also has the right book for Feb. I'm confused about where TWWWWTBFAY comes into it. Aristocat should have been posting it to Lola this week. But maybe OTBH and TWWW got mixed up along the line...

Aristocat, are you ready to send OTBH to Lola? If so, if Dysgu could read TWWWW first and send it to you as soon as she's read it, we might get back on track.

What do you think?

Dysgu Tue 29-Jan-13 22:00:04

I can send TWWWW... pretty soon as I am almost finished reading it. Just let me know... as I will need to buy chocolate!

aristocat Wed 30-Jan-13 13:09:02

Yes Dysgu would love the book asap please smile I will be sending mine (OTBH) on to Lola this week

Dysgu Wed 30-Jan-13 19:03:50

Ok aristo I will finish it in the next couple of days and will send it on Saturday (once I have bought chocolate!)

stickylittlefingers Fri 01-Feb-13 13:54:44

arti have sent the books, so should be with you tomorrow. "Books" because I'd read my one for this month. So you have TTT by DS (aristo's) for this month and M by JE (Dysgu's) for March.

LolaLadybird Fri 01-Feb-13 21:27:09

Blimey, it's all a bit confusing this time isn't it! Sorry, been completely out of the loop as haven't been on MN for weeks and just remembered I should be posting a book. AP - realistically, its going to be Monday before I can post as won't get to a post office tomorrow, sorry.

aristocat Tue 05-Feb-13 18:14:15

smile Lola. Your book is on its way, hope you like the chocolate.

aristocat Sat 09-Feb-13 22:36:25

Dysgu no chocolate book for me yet, did you manage to post it?

Dysgu Mon 11-Feb-13 21:40:43

Sorry aristo have not made it to post office but will get there tomorrow as I am working from home and will need the break!

Sorry - no real reason other than the hectic chaos that is my life right now!

aristocat Tue 12-Feb-13 09:16:11

Dysgu no worries m'dear. Just didn't want it waiting for me at the sorting office smile

Dysgu Tue 12-Feb-13 10:07:28

aristo I have just got back from the post office smile where I posted the book. My school run took me nearly 90 minutes today as I waddled into town to post the book and then went to the hair dressers to make an appointment for a cut and colour in half term (next week here). So success - but that's me done as the only way home from town is all uphill and now I can carry on with writing these school reports (which are the reason I am working from home today). Only 8 more days at work to go though grin

aristocat Tue 12-Feb-13 12:45:05

Dysgu when is your due date? So soon already?

Hope you are OK smile

Dysgu Tue 12-Feb-13 21:46:27

Hi - my due date is not until 24th April, which is 10 weeks from tomorrow but, as DD1 and DD2 came early for no reasons, I am finishing work early and plan on taking things easy in hope of this one staying in a bit longer. All medical staff seem to think it will be the same as before - so we will be on high alert any time from 27th February!

I am on extra hormones (possibly - is a double blind research project) which aim to get me to at least 34 weeks so we will just wait and see.

Hopefully I can have a couple of peaceful weeks and some rest and reading time - but cannot read with chocolate as I have gestational diabetes (possibly - they are treating me as though I have which means testing my blood three times a day - but the test results may have been skewed by the drugs I have had!)

aristocat Thu 14-Feb-13 15:04:43

smile Thanks for the book/chocolate dysgu. Good luck, hope LO doesn't arrive too soon.

stickylittlefingers Wed 27-Feb-13 23:34:41

27/2- must mean Dysgu is on high alert! Hope all is well and you're curled up reading in a corner comfortably smile

Hello, everyone. Have you all posted? slf apologies for the crap chocolate this month - I had the book in the open envelope in my car, and then I was passing through the world's most boring village, with the world's worst Spar... It was like stepping 20 years back in time.

stickylittlefingers Sat 02-Mar-13 22:01:26

it sounds like that village needs liberating AgentP - imagine living there! I will do my best with what you've sent me <brave little soldier> wink Looking forward to the new book!

LolaLadybird Sun 03-Mar-13 19:35:07

Hi AP - book all packaged up, I will post tomorrow.

LolaLadybird Tue 05-Mar-13 22:22:26

Posted first class yesterday AP so should be with you tomorrow if you don't have it already.

Thank you - it was waiting for me when I got home from work. I'm going to start it tonight. I'm really enjoying this round - there's not been one book that I've already read. smile

Dysgu Thu 07-Mar-13 00:00:50

Will be posting tomorrow aristocat - is all packed and ready for the post office.

Nothing happening here - I finished work last Friday (first time I have started maternity leave before having a baby so something of a novelty) so just waiting to see if anything is going to happen. Obviously, something will happen in the next 7 weeks... but we are passed the arrival stage for DD1 and getting close to the arrival stage for DD2 - so will be packing bag soon but it feels too much like tempting fate!

Managing to do lots of reading - and am even trying to crochet a baby hat!

stickylittlefingers Fri 08-Mar-13 11:46:25

I have the book thanks AP The chocolate is no longer with us, so can't have been so very bad wink

Exciting times Dysgu- hope you're still feeling well and comfortable and doing lots of reading! Very impressed by the crochet. I'm as good with needles and wool as your average trout.

LolaLadybird Fri 08-Mar-13 17:45:52

Lots of reading and crocheting time sounds good Dysgu.

No book received here yet, is it on its way Aristo? (Have just finished a book and not sure whether to start another or wait for its arrival - decisions, decisions)

Dysgu Sat 09-Mar-13 23:55:04

Sorry aristo book did not make it into the post! Is all packaged - DD2 chose the chocolate so it may be more her choice than yours! Will either give to DP to post on Monday or will post it myself - by driving into bigger town where the roads are flat as I cannot walk up and down the hill to get into town here anymore!

Dysgu Mon 11-Mar-13 20:58:24

I posted the book (and chocolate) to you today aristo

aristocat Mon 11-Mar-13 22:48:32

Thanks Dysgu will let you know when it arrives. Glad you are feeling well and we have all got our fingers crossed for you smile

I will post to you tomorrow Lola sorry it is late - I have only just finished reading it!

aristocat Tue 12-Mar-13 13:04:16

Thanks Dysgu I have it already, have posted today to Lola so it should arrive soon smile

LolaLadybird Thu 14-Mar-13 19:35:36

Aristo - book received today, thank you. Looks like a good one, can't wait to get started. When you said in the card you're sending it early, do you mean you're sending the next one (April) early and that today I have received March's? (easily confused)

Dysgu Thu 14-Mar-13 22:18:15

Hi all - Evan David Nelson Langford made a quick, early arrival at 3.16 am this morning after something of a dash to the hospital! He weighs exactly 5 lb and is perfect.

I did have niggling pains at around 11pm but they were not hurting and as contractions had stopped on Tuesday I did not pay them much attention and headed to bed. I was woken with a GUSH at 2.05 am and within 5 minutes big contractions were coming. I timed a few and they seemed to be up to 90 seconds long and coming every 2 or 3 minutes so I woke DP about 2.25 am and called my parents to come over to be with DDs.

DDad headed over - but whilst living very close, the floating bridge that connects to two towns does not run between midnight and 5am so he had to drive the long way round and there are traffic works that cause a long diversion - even though there was very little traffic!

DDad arrived and we left home at 2.55 am. We are close to the hospital so were there by 3.05 am and I had been told when I called to head straight for Labour Ward and not maternity. As I walked in to Labour Ward they were just preparing a delivery room so I had an other contraction before climbing onto the bed. MW was connecting the monitor and trying to take my BP etc and I told her I needed to push. She told me all was fine and gave me the gas and air so I told DP to tell her I needed to push! They managed to undress me from the waist down after my second contraction on the bed.

I remember saying "it's coming. I promise you, it's coming" and she said yes, it was fine.

And there was a baby on the bed between my legs! We had been in the delivery room less than 10 minutes!

I think everyone was surprised at just how quickly he made an appearance! I think he rode out on a wave of amniotic fluid as the place was soaked (and my slippers, which were on the floor, have had to be binned!)

1st degree tear so no stitches. Gas and air to deliver the placenta.

Dp went down to NICU where they had taken the baby and came back with first pictures. Then DP headed home and was home before DDs got up for school/pre-school. They came to meet their baby brother after school and have declared they love him and want him to come home soon and that we should keep him!

I am now home - hoping to get some sleep in my own bed and hospital is a hard place to sleep as alarms go off all the time. They don't have a transition ward here - that is the next step and they are currently setting it up. I will go in again in the morning and have been given a pump to use as we try to establish a milk supply. Nothing happening yet - at all - with hand expressing or the pump but I will keep going. I have struggled before and only managed to express any milk until both DDs' due dates before giving up....

Hope all else are well - off to sleep for a bit before trying to express again.

OMG, I'm crying here. What a lovely story. Huge congratulations to you all, and a big welcome to baby Evan.

aristocat Thu 14-Mar-13 23:11:46

CONGRATULATIONS Dysgu a beautiful little boy smile Fantastic news X

Have PMed you Lola sorry about the confusion

LolaLadybird Thu 14-Mar-13 23:18:21

Huge congrats Dysgu. You have excellent taste in names -Evan David is the name of our son, spooky! smile

artifarti Fri 15-Mar-13 14:12:52

Many congratulations Dysgu! Glad that all is well. And a lovely name (you too Lola wink)

Oooh, I love a newborn but not quite enough to produce another one now that DS2 is finally sleeping haha.

stickylittlefingers Fri 15-Mar-13 22:57:18

oh what lovely news! Congratulations Dysgu and family smile Quick work there, well done! Hope you are indeed getting some sleep and having a lovely time with your snuggly little boy xx

Dysgu Tue 19-Mar-13 21:15:35

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts. DS is still in NICU and will be there for a while - they never tell you how long, just to aim for bringing them home on their due date (which is 6 weeks away!) We are hopeful that he might be out of his incubator by the end of the week - we have managed a couple of cuddles but he is jaundiced and under special lamps and also struggling to maintain his own temp outside the incubator.

I could sit and watch him all day - but can't as DDs keep me busy too!

However, not that I would necessarily have time for it - but I have not received a book yet this month sad

Has anyone seen or heard of JohnWorf? I am off to hunt her down and send a PM to check she is okay...

Dysgu Tue 19-Mar-13 23:29:56

I have tracked down JW - book will be mailed tomorrow.

I only thought of it as I was looking at the big bars of chocolate in the shop today...

aristocat Mon 25-Mar-13 18:19:41

Lola I am posting your next book in the morning smile It is only a short one so you will finish it quickly too.

How are you Dysgu and your DS? Are you managing to read at all? Do you have the next book?

LolaLadybird Thu 28-Mar-13 17:31:16

Book arrived yesterday Aristo - thank you.

Apologies but I will be posting to you late this month AgentP. We are going away for a week on Saturday and I won't quite get this month's book finished before I go (in my defence I got it late!). I will post it on to you as soon as we're back though so you should get it around 10th April.

That's ok - I've got a couple to read for my RL book group. Have a lovely break.

SLF, I'll post yours tomorrow.

Just come back on to the thread - a belated congrats to you Dysgu!

Happy Easter all

Dysgu Fri 29-Mar-13 23:15:52

Thanks for all the kind thoughts.

Have sent PM to AP re current book.

Evan came home from the hospital today - is 15 days old, 5lb 3oz and doing well. Is currently fast asleep on me but am about to try transferring him to his moses basket - fingers crossed!

Congratulations on getting him home. I've got your PM, but I'm ashamed to say I'm too drunk to understand it. blush.

I'll reply tomorrow. X

Dysgu Sat 30-Mar-13 15:26:30

AP grin

LolaLadybird Fri 12-Apr-13 16:27:40

AgentP - apologies for not posting book yet. We got back at the weekend but I've not been well this week and completely forgot about posting. Will try and make it to post office tomorrow morning but, if not, will definitely post on Monday. It is an easy read so you'll have no trouble getting through it.

LolaLadybird Sat 13-Apr-13 12:21:09

Hi AP - just a quick note to say I posted to you this morning first class so hopefully with you on Monday.

LolaLadybird Sat 13-Apr-13 12:24:36

Itsjusta - have you started a thread for your book this time round? Can't see one but possibly I'm being a bit dim .... (it has been known smile)

artifarti Sun 14-Apr-13 10:29:07

I think this round is coming to an end this month, isn't it? Anyone up for another round? There have been some great books this time.

Hope all are well and baby Dysgu is continuing to thrive smile My 'baby just turned one, I don't know where the time has gone!

aristocat Sun 14-Apr-13 23:32:56

arti last book already? Count me in if we go again please smile

aristocat Mon 29-Apr-13 13:37:17

Are we all ready to post on Wednesday .......

stickylittlefingers Wed 01-May-13 15:10:51

another round bites the dust!

Who is up for another round? I feel I should offer to organise this time, given arti and AP have done more than their fair share already...

Looks like it would be at least Arti, Aristo and me. Any more for any more?

aristocat Mon 06-May-13 11:42:12

I am posting to you tomorrow Lola Do you have the last book for me Dysgu?

I'll post your book tomorrow, SLF - not sure where April disappeared to! I'll need to think about the next round. I've increased my hours to FT, and it's seriously eating into my reading time!

I think we have one more book of this round to go. I've not had SLF's original book.

stickylittlefingers Wed 08-May-13 11:49:35

really?! I've posted arti's original book back already. I is confused but that's not a new feeling for me...

I would be up for another round of books ...

I am under the impression that there should be another swap involved

Thanks,

LolaLadybird Fri 10-May-13 20:40:27

Apologies for delay in posting AP, I will send first class tomorrow. Life just too hectic at the mo. I am posting SLF's book to you.

I think this is the last go - I now have your book AP.

That's ok - it's the last book so I won't need to send it back to SLF so promptly.

I've been a bit lax at writing on the individual book threads lately, but I have a clear favourite in mind (although still one book to go).

Dysgu Mon 13-May-13 10:36:03

Hi all - I too am up for another round although have had a bit of a challenge getting books this time round. I haven't had a book in ages so have had nothing to send to you aristo

Could I suggest that the posting order is mixed around for the next round - if only so different people have to put up with me posting late and for the limited chocolate choices I tend to send smile

Has everyone got their last book now?
I'm going to sit the next round out - I'm working FT now, and my weekends are increasingly busy, so I don't have time to A) get to the inconvenient sorting office and B) read!

I'm happy to pass the spreadsheet with the addresses and all-important chocolate details to SLF if enough people want to continue to make it worthwhile. And, yes, Dysgu - shuffling the order is a good idea. I don't know where your books have disappeared to this round.

Dysgu Wed 22-May-13 17:06:59

Still no book here but guess all books will be heading 'home' soon.

aristocat Thu 23-May-13 00:12:01

Lola I do not have the book for May to send back to you in June. Perhaps we should all comment on whose books we have and see if anyone does have it?

aristo=none sad

LolaLadybird Mon 27-May-13 08:16:18

Sorry you've not had my book yet Aristo, a shame as I think its a good one smile. That said, there is no rush to return it (although I would like it back at some point) so hopefully you will still get to read it if it does turn up.

AP - I've read your book and loved it thank you. Hope you don't mind but I've lent it to my dad (we often swap books and he is v local) as I knew there was no rush to send it on. Will post it back as soon as he's done.

Stickylittlefingers Wed 29-May-13 23:33:56

Hello! I have finished itsjusta's book now, so I think when I post that one on to arti that is this round finished?

I have The Spreadsheet from AP, so can sort out a next round if that's still wanted? So far I think the following would like to:

Arti
Aristo
Lola
Dysgu
Itsjusta
Me!

Any more for any more? TBH I'd be quite happy with a "short" round <cue Indiana Jones music> because it looks like we'll be in Germany again next year. Rather than risk books getting lost etc which I know is really annoying for everyone, I'd bow out for a bit then.

Let me know (a) if you want to stay in and (b) what the initials of your new book will be. Also if you have any new chocolate preferences! If by the end of next week we have the definitive list of people I can get the new addressees circulated and we'll be ready to start again 1 July smile

aristocat Thu 30-May-13 22:54:12

Yes please SLF count me in smile I just need to decide on a new book ...

Dysgu Thu 30-May-13 23:00:02

I am definitely in again, SLF I will just have to have a think about the next book but will be in touch in the next few days with my choice.

Stickylittlefingers Sat 01-Jun-13 16:06:49

cool smile I need to think too, or rather remember. I always seem to have wonderful ideas mid round, which I completely forget at the vital moment. And these days, I think "what was that good book I read a bit ago?" and then realise it was one of the books I've read in the book swap smile

Dysgu Sat 01-Jun-13 21:00:16

I have just sent you a PM SLF with my book choice and chocolate preferences - may have sent it twice but better than not at all, eh!

Hope everyone has had some lovely weather to enjoy today - we are getting quite used to eating our meals outside on the deck so I hope this lovely weather continues. It was still 20 degrees here at gone 7pm this evening!

artifarti Sat 08-Jun-13 06:26:59

Hello, life mad busy here and very little time for reading but I'm still in (but if anyone chooses an 800 page blockbuster usually me then it will take me six months to read it!)

slf - will PM you book and choc details...

aristocat Sat 08-Jun-13 23:08:59

I will PM you now SLF I have the perfect book smile

Stickylittlefingers Sat 08-Jun-13 23:19:13

thank you Dysgu, arti and aristo! Still to hear from Lola and Itsjusta... and that pesky SLF. She's useless you know, can't pin her down ;-)

LolaLadybird Wed 12-Jun-13 21:34:37

Sorry, am hopeless, only just read this thanks to a gentle nudge from SLF. I'm definitely in, really need to think of a book - can I say I'll let you know by the weekend please?

Stickylittlefingers Wed 12-Jun-13 22:54:08

yes of course Lola smile

Stickylittlefingers Wed 19-Jun-13 13:39:06

hello everyone! I have just fired off emails to you about who you are sending to this round, so do have a look in your spam if it's not in your inbox as I might be skulking there. The email has "mice and maltesers" as the subject so will hopefully be easy to find.

I've tried to rearrange the sending order as best I can...

Let me know if there are any ishoos... otherwise get wrapping those books and chocolates up ready for the 1 July posting. Not so far away now (rather scarily!)

Dysgu Wed 19-Jun-13 16:47:20

Thanks for the email slf - just got to find where I put my copy of my book and buy chocolate. Even I can manage that in 11 days...

aristocat Thu 20-Jun-13 08:18:43

smile thanks from me too SLF book ready, just need to decide on a chocolate!

aristocat Fri 21-Jun-13 16:27:03

Does anyone have my book from the last round? I do not have one to send to you, Lola sorry

Stickylittlefingers Fri 21-Jun-13 16:53:49

Shall we do a round up of the books from this round?

For me, I currently don't have a book, the last one I had was itsjusta's and I sent it on to arti at the beginning of the month.

I know my book from this round is with AP, am quite happy to get it back as and when.

Dysgu Sat 22-Jun-13 19:08:56

I do not have a book from the last round to send on or back. I haven't had one in a while. Maybe your book will make it to me sometime aristo so I can send it home to you.

LolaLadybird Sat 22-Jun-13 19:46:20

Dont' worry Aristo, you can't help it if you didn't get the book. Does anyone know where mine is though (the Snow Child) as would quite like to have it back at some point if possible?

I have AP's, need to send it on to her.

Sticky - thank you for ogranising us all for the next round!

artifarti Sun 23-Jun-13 08:19:50

I have itsjusta's book. I got my own book sent back to me about six weeks ago which doesn't seem right confused

Thanks for email slf.

aristocat Sun 23-Jun-13 14:04:00

I too would like my book returned if possible (The Thirteenth Tale) as I would like to re-read it.

smile

Stickylittlefingers Tue 25-Jun-13 22:34:28

I think it's all fine with the books, they'll be coming back very soon.

Hi all!

I haven't got my book back from this round and have already posted the 'new' book(round 6!!) to Aristo.

Sorry if I have mucked things up ...

aristocat Thu 27-Jun-13 23:31:48

aristocat Sat 29-Jun-13 19:39:12

Stickylittlefingers Wed 03-Jul-13 10:46:30

Book looks v interesting

Dysgu Thu 04-Jul-13 19:58:27

Glad you like it, SLF I was sent that one with a book and had the same result so i got to eat it all myself!

LolaLadybird Thu 04-Jul-13 23:02:56

Book arrived today Arti - thank you (and v good chocolate smile)

Dysgu - finally got yours in the post today after the chocolate shenanigans. I sent it first class so hopefully with you for the weekend. Also, I realised today that I forgot to write my MN name in it so would you mind doing that for me - thank you.

LolaLadybird Thu 04-Jul-13 23:04:15

By the way do you think its worth starting a new chat thread for round 6 - help to keep things tidy (neat freak) ...

aristocat Thu 04-Jul-13 23:23:53

arti not sure if I put my name in the book - will you check for me please?

Yes I agree a #6 thread needed smile
