artifarti Tue 01-May-12 17:46:18

Marking my place.

aristocat Sat 05-May-12 00:15:47

Thank you AP my book & chocolate is here smile

artifarti Tue 08-May-12 15:55:01

No book for me yet. Who is my poster?

JohnWorf is posting to you. She said on her email that she'd be posting it on the 2nd. If you've not received anything by tomorrow, I'll send her an email. Maybe the public holiday has held things up.

Has everyone else got their book?

ProfCoxWouldGetIt Wed 09-May-12 08:30:41

Are you open to new members in your swap club?

Thanks

Dysgu Wed 09-May-12 20:03:28

Thank you aristocat - the book and chocolate arrived - I have finished the book so will look for your thread to post a comment. Perhaps we should have a chocolate discussion thread too - that one was interesting and not something I had ever tried (or even seen) before!

Sorry Johnworf but we have not had any internet connection for the past week at home and I cannot access my hotmail address in work (silly school firewall emoticon!) but, having got everything running again at home, I have now managed to address the envelope and the book and chocolate will be on its way to you tomorrow.

ProfCox, we've just started a round, but I'll give you a shout when we start our next one , and if you've not found another one by then, you'd be very welcome.

I am intrigued by what Dysgu got for her chocolate selection this time! I am well into my book now (thanks Arti!), hope you're all enjoying yours now.

ProfCoxWouldGetIt Thu 10-May-12 14:03:57

Thanks Agent smile

artifarti Fri 11-May-12 14:53:10

Still no book here sad.

OK - I'll email Johnworf and see when she sent it. Hopefully, it will be easy and quick to read when you do get it smile

Dysgu Sat 19-May-12 19:39:15

Hello all - hope everyone is fine and enjoying books and chocolate. I finished aristocat's book - do we need to start a thread about our own book so everyone can comment as they go around.

Did my book arrive with you, Johnworf - DP posted it some time back so hope it got there.

aristocat Sun 20-May-12 23:50:09

Crikey, Dysgu finished already wink I have started a thread for my book.
TBH I have almost finished mine (will send it early if I manage to finish before 1st June) but I have DD and DS birthdays in the next 10 days ..... eek!

aristocat Sun 20-May-12 23:52:35

Ooooh Dysgu I almost forgot .......did you like the choccie then? I had not seen it before and purchased 2 bars - one for you and one for tasting purposes grin so I could make sure it was edible!

I'm really enjoying SLF's book and I've nearly finished it. There's been a slight hitch and we may need to postpone posting for a month. Artifarti moved, and her new poster didn't have the address, so she's not got her book yet. She was going to go back to old house this weekend to see if it was there, but I've not heard from her yet.

If she tracks it down and it turns out she's read the book, we can post as normal. If not, is it ok to wait a month so that I can send her a new copy and give her time to read it?

actually I'd vote for that, I'm enjoying Arti's book but keep not reading it (tho made good progress in the garden yesterday, until I fell asleep in the sunshine! This was a function of how I react to sunshine, rather than arti's book I hasten to add), so it would be a bit of a sprint to get it read for the end of the month... I miss commuting for the reading time it gave me!

Hope everyone's well, I see I'm the problem child wrt to the book, so if you're all desperate for the next one I shall just sprint!

SLF, how are you getting on with the book? I think Arti and Johnworf are sorted now, so we're good to post at the end of the month. Do you want to PM me and let me know what it is in case I've read it, and then you wouldn't need to rush. Or else post a few days late - I'm ahead with my RL book group and I've read next month's book, so I can probably tear through it.

Dysgu Thu 24-May-12 22:34:15

Yes, aristocat I rather enjoyed the chocolate. Another positive is that the girls didn't like it so I got to keep it for myself this month! I'm not sure if DP managed to get a taste at all!

I am all set to post the book in the next week or so. I will have to re-read the blurb to recall what I thought of it to post on aristocat's thread. I whizzed through it though.

Hope everyone has some lovely weather to enjoy.

I am having a reading sprint - should be fine to post on 1st or extremely shortly thereafter! Might even get to read in the garden once the workmen are gone...

I've posted today, because we're going away on Wednesday for a few days now that the DC have finished their exams but are still on study leave. Yay!

SLF, no problem if you want to wait till after holiday weekend to post to me. Also, can you start a thread for your book so I can post on it before I forget the story? Many thanks

Yessir!! Also I have selflessly spent the afternoon in the garden reading so I've finished my book. Greater love huh? Have a lovely holiday AP where are you off to? Hope the weather stays good for you

aristocat Mon 28-May-12 22:58:10

I have posted today, and my new book arrived (choccie looks yummy thank you) so thanks AP

Had a lovely time up north, thanks, SLF, and I've come back to a post card from th PO, so it's probably my book. The boom JohnWorf sent Arti never arrived, so I'm going to order you a second hand one from Amazon today and just get it sent to you directly. I've actually read it already, so don't worry about having to finish it by the end of June.

Has everyone else posted/received this month's book?

arti had you started a thread for your book?

artifarti Fri 08-Jun-12 12:26:54

No, will try and do it later.

No book for me yet - is it on the way? Hope so - I've nearly finished Hearts and Minds which is vair good.

is that Rosy T's Hearts and Minds arti? AgentP the book arrived today, thank you!! ... so that's the one Arti would have had, if it had arrived? Had Arti read it already - if not I could post back to Arti after I've finished, who could send on to Aristo after? (if that's not getting too head bending!)

artifarti Sat 09-Jun-12 07:11:36

No, Amanda Craig's H & Ms - didn't know there was another one, is it good? I have already read the book you now have so don't wory about sending it to me, thanks.

rightio, that makes things easier. The other H&M is about university life, so I have a special interest, but I think it's good anyway. Light but intelligent iykwim.

I enjoyed Amanda Craig's H&M too.

Arti, have you got your book yet?

artifarti Tue 12-Jun-12 10:36:09

No, no book yet. Moved onto Ian McEwan's Black Dogs now (a short one in case book arrives grin)

artifarti Fri 15-Jun-12 09:54:28

Still no book here. I am assuming JohnWorf has my new address now?

artifarti Fri 15-Jun-12 11:29:20

Book arrived - thanks! I have already read this one too though sad but I did enjoy it so will collect my thoughts and post on the thread.

aristocat Tue 26-Jun-12 09:27:45

Dysgu look out for the postie ......... I have sent the next book a few days early because I have finished it smile

Aristocat, I posted today, so you should get it by the end of the week.

Aristocat I'm so sorry - I've made a chocolate mistake! I bought chocolate and posted when I was out, and I thought it was coffee and orange you didn't like, but I now see it was nuts. I can't remember what I ended up buying - I swithered a lot - but I think I may have gone for one with caramelised nuts. If so, pass it on to your DH, and I'll definitely remember your likes and dislikes for next month.

aristocat Tue 26-Jun-12 17:10:06

AP don't worry. You have immaculate timing though!

I went and bought some chocolate for you today aristo - just think people up and down the country are buying you chocolate!! Should finish the book this weekend and post on Monday. That is if I am capable of walking on Monday - I'm running a trail marathon on Sunday shock, and yet still running my running group on Monday shock shock so I might be collapsed in a heap! Might be a case of crawling to the post office...

hi arti I notice you had already read the book you got last month... does that mean you'd have sent it to me already? I don't think I've had it, but also a bit concerned that you sent it and I've forgotten about it (head like sieve). If you haven't no worries, just when you're ready!

artifarti Thu 05-Jul-12 14:48:09

I posted it this morning so should be with you soon. Can you remind me what your choc likes are? I put in dark but then got a horrible feeling you didn't like it...

aristocat Thu 05-Jul-12 18:09:50

AP thank you I have the book and have almost finished it. Chocolate has been stashed in the cupboard ( for one of those emergency moments IYKWIM).

Should be able to post early dysgu would that be OK?

no arti that's right - I am a dark girl by preference. I do just like chocolate full stop, but dark is my favourite smile Thank you!!

artifarti Sat 14-Jul-12 13:42:59

Thanks for the book and chocolate johnworf. They did arrive but you sent them to my old address again. Will PM you as well.

aristocat Sun 15-Jul-12 23:18:19

Did you post to me sticky nothing has arrived yet? I will post to you early Dysgu I have read the book smile

aristo I did - ages ago! Would have been the Tuesday after I posted about getting the chocolate I think, so July 3... where on earth can it be?

aristocat Mon 16-Jul-12 13:55:22

sticky hmm thats odd ...... I will check with my sorting office and see if they have a parcel for me and didnt leave a card.

I hope they still have it aristo, that's really strange. I posted a parcel to my brother on the same day, and his arrived the next day. So you'd have thought yours wouldn't have been so far behind.

aristocat Mon 16-Jul-12 22:44:13

sticky I telephoned today and they told me there were no parcels waiting for me to collect sad I shall go there tomorrow and try again ...... can you PM me what the book is and where you posted it from <<hoping it will help>> crosses fingers for tomorrow. I will let you know how I get on.

aristocat Tue 17-Jul-12 23:09:34

no book sad for me to collect ....... PO appear to have lost our parcel hmm

Hi, everyone. You're all about to start your summer holidays, and we're more than halfway through ours. We're just back from France, which was lovely despite the weather not being as hot (or as dry!) as we'd hoped.

Has everyone got the right book? Any sign of yours, Aristocat? That's the same one that got lost in the first posting, I think. It must be jinxed! Give it a couple of more days - it's the one you were due on 1 Aug, anyway, I think.

I had a reading-fest on holiday; The Art of Fielding, The Sisters Brothers, Freedom (one of the best books I've ever read) and The Fountainhead. I also re-read my book for this round, and I'd forgotten the ending completely! I had forgotten that it could be construed as contentious, so apologies if it offends anyone's sensibilities.

aristocat Sun 22-Jul-12 14:56:16

No sign of it yet AP I have however ordered one from Amazon so hopefully I will get one or the other this week grin
shock that its the book that has already gone AWOL!

hello, aristo that is so annoying. I do hope you enjoy the book now. It is really really odd that it was the one that went missing before. It's not come back here either. I don't think I've ever personally had a parcel go missing before; I guess it had to happen sometime.

Anyway, hope you've all been enjoying the better weather

oh good grief, the thread for that book's gone missing too! shock Or was one never started? John Worf's book?

aristocat Sun 22-Jul-12 22:29:00

grin It is cursed .....

aristo it's come back here! It's got an undeliverable sticker on it dated 25 July. So, you now have it anyway. I'll try sending just the chocolate perhaps and see if that works!

Johnworf got hers back too! That means there are now three in circulation!

it is the Book that Cannot be Posted. How peculiar!

aristocat Sat 28-Jul-12 18:40:46

No SLF we were home on the 25th (first day of school hols for us) so no plans made ........... amazing that you have it back though!

Must admit I have not started the book yet, but not due to send it on to Dysgu until Sept (so plenty of time)

Hope we are enjoying the better weather smile

the irony aristo -they had your whole address, mine was just house name and postcode. Apparently that was easier? hmm Chalk it up to experience I guess.

Not long to the next posting smile

artifarti Tue 31-Jul-12 13:02:05

Ooooh, AP, I have Freedom on my pile so looking forward to that. Not much time to read here except that DS2 has suddenly started waking to feed loads more in the night hmm

aristo - have finished your book and posted on the thread. Aiming to post it on tomorrow slf.

aristocat Wed 01-Aug-12 10:52:11

thank you SLF the chocolate has arrived smile

SLF, have you posted to me yet? We've not had any mail all week (which is unusual). Our house is really hard to find, so I'm wondering if we've got a new postie and our mail is at the police station with a similar address. But I'd rather go and ask for something specific...

no - sorry I've got all confused as where I was in the posting schedule blush I will get it over to you soon as i can Agent. Sorry, am an eejit.

Don't worry - I was just concerned in case it had gone missing.
Has everyone else got the right book?

artifarti Mon 06-Aug-12 21:49:13

I haven't had a chance to post yet but hoping to tomorrow. Sorry!

No book here yet.

AP I posted yours 1st class yesterday so hopefully it's with you now, or will be tomorrow if not. arti will look out for it, no worries tho. I just got a pile of books out the library because of hanging out there with the girls.

Thanks, SLF. I've got it now. Unfortunately, it's another one I've already read. There's nothing more disappointing than opening the envelope to find out that you've read it. Lovely chocolate though. Thanks

I got mine today (thanks Arti!) and the chocolate isn't one I've ever had before! And the book isn't one I've read before so double whammy for me. Hopefully you won't have read this one either AP so will get it on to you asap, it looks like one of aristo's page turners smile The girls have got judo club tonight so that should give me a good session.

Dysgu Sat 18-Aug-12 22:19:04

Hi everyone - I am working my way througharti's book right now - she always picks a good one! It is quite a tome so hoping to be finished by the end of the month (which seems just around the corner with the end of the school holidays).

I am thinking of staying home tomorrow whilst DP takes the DDs out for the day - need to rest 'in my condition' grin

Hope all is well with everyone else.

artifarti Sun 19-Aug-12 09:56:44

Ooooh Dysgu - does that mean what I think it means?!

Dysgu! grin

AP meant to warn you, I sent through aristo's book on Thursday so hopefully you have it by now (sorry the chocolate's not exactly imaginative; we hadn't left enough time before the girls' judo class and I just picked the first thing I could see that wasn't Dairy Milk!)

Dysgu Sun 19-Aug-12 18:18:01

grin

yes, we have another DC on the way. It is VERY new news at the moment so I can only mention it on an anonymous forum as we have not said anything to anyone in rl. I have to make an app to do see the doctor but the plan is to carry this one to term (but hopefully the weather will get cooler as so hot and tired right now!)

hope all goes well Dysgu, you can tell your imaginary friends quite safely wink

artifarti Thu 23-Aug-12 11:35:38

Congratulations and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy Dysgu.

My reading is ridiculously slow at the moment and I haven't been able to start this month's book yet blush

aristocat Sun 26-Aug-12 00:26:26

congrats Dysgu smile

aristocat Sun 02-Sep-12 14:54:37

Dysgu I will post JWs book (the one that keeps going MIA) tomorrow so you will have it this week smile

Hope everyone else is busy reading/posting .........

artifarti Sun 02-Sep-12 18:43:06

Hoping to finish the book in the next day or so...

Congrats, dysgu. Another OM&M baby. Delighted for you (but I hope it's not catching!) wink

I will be posting to you tomorrow, Aristocat.

Dysgu Sun 02-Sep-12 22:19:53

Hi All,

Book is all parcelled up so hoping to make it to the post office tomorrow although I have to go into work to move classrooms! Luckily I packed up my room at the start of the holiday but the teacher moving out of my new room is only packing her stuff up tomorrow!

Then back to work for real on Tuesday... all well but feeling rather bloated (guess that happens with DC3) and hoping I can manage to eat (almost) constantly even whilst teaching to keep the nausea at bay.

aristocat Mon 03-Sep-12 13:48:15

book is en route smile Dysgu be careful with this one as it is the book that cannot be posted!

are we already on our last books now? This one's gone quickly if so.

aristocat Mon 03-Sep-12 22:51:15

no SLF there are 2 more. I have Dysgu and Lola books to read yet ::checks spreadsheet:: grin

artifarti Tue 04-Sep-12 12:05:08

slf - book posted today (it's AP's)

ah but then if I'm getting AP's this month, I will be posting it back to AP next month - how did this happen? confused

Lola's not in this round, Aristocat. I sent you Dysgu's today, and I'm reading yours at the moment. So does that mean we are at the end? confused

aristocat Tue 04-Sep-12 22:14:27

sad Yikes ..... yes we must be on the last book!!!

Are there only 6 of us this time? Crikey that did go fast.

Yes, it did go fast. We need to decide what we do now - do we open it up to new people(!), keep going with the six of us or email round ex OMAMs to see if anyone wants to rejoin?

What do you all think?

artifarti Wed 05-Sep-12 09:13:38

IMHO I think ask some of the ex OMAMs (not the ones who disappeared without trace!) It has worked well this round, I think, keeping it smallish.

aristocat Wed 05-Sep-12 10:29:54

yes, I agree email ex OMAMs and if not then keep it small. it has worked well except for that one book going missing a few times.

Lola asked to be told when the new round started (I am her FB friend also so I can keep tabs on her wink) so shall I give her a shout?

And obviously be careful not to pick any Cursed Books this time. I dunno, schoolboy error that.

Oooh!!! It's me - can I join again?

aristocat Wed 05-Sep-12 23:43:00

yes Itsjusta would be lovely to have you back on the team smile

Thank you!

artifarti Thu 06-Sep-12 08:41:57

Hallo itsjusta and welcome back smile

AP - shall I email you the details of former people I think it's worth inviting back? (I realise that this sounds very bossy but I did end up with a small blacklist of people like the one who emigrated without telling us).

Oh, yes please. That would be a great help. I can only ever remember vague details about anything, including the previous rounds. I know someone ended up with about four books and was never heard of again, but I can't remember who.

artifarti Thu 06-Sep-12 15:05:12

Have sent you a PM.

aristocat Sat 08-Sep-12 10:56:45

Thank you AP the book arrived today and I have never tried that chocolate before. Have read 2 books in the last few days because we have no broadband sad so can start this one immediately

artifarti Wed 12-Sep-12 13:39:06

No book here yet.

How are we looking for the next round AP - any rejoiners? I think I have chosen a book smile.

Itsjusta and lolaladybird are going to rejoin us. Of the first lot of people, only buggerofsuburbia got back to me and she's gone over to the dark side - Kindle, not netmums wink

Is everyone else in? I think we need to be clear about the books to send - I think a lot of people had read some of the last round's books already.

artifarti Wed 12-Sep-12 14:16:33

These were the original rules:
No chicklit
No abuse memoir type stuff
No horror
No hardbacks

Auto/biography is allowed as long as it's not anything too obscure (or crap, obviously).
Also, no bestsellers/recent Booker winners etc. that people might have read.

Do these still stand for everyone?

oh brilliant! Are we restarting on 1 October? And yes very happy with the rules.

aristocat Sun 16-Sep-12 14:01:16

will be posting your book soon Dysgu smile

Hi everyone. It's a Glasgow holiday weekend, so I'm going away for a few days, but I will organise the next round on Monday night. I've only had two emails with people's next choice, so if you could email me over the weekend, that would be fab.

Calling JohnWorf and Dysgu... Can you email your book choices for the next round please?

Bump for Dysgu and JohnWorf...

artifarti Sun 30-Sep-12 12:17:05

I guess we are not ready to post tomorrow?

aristocat Sun 30-Sep-12 12:46:40

any news AP I have my book and chocolate at the ready ....

Sorry, folks. I was away last night, but we're all ready to go once dysgi sends me her choice. I will email you all later today with the addresses and choc preferences.

stickylittlefingers Sun 30-Sep-12 15:50:20

thanks AP. Very exciting to be starting up again!

Dysgu Sun 30-Sep-12 17:05:51

Sorry for holding everything up - but I have now sent my book details to AP.

OK, you should all have received an email from me now apart from SLF, because I just want to check I have the right address for Artifarti. Hopefully she'll come back to me later and then we can get going. I'm going to start a new chat thread for round 5, because there's a new posting order and it might get confusing if we carry this one on. I've still not made a final choice, but I'll need to decide tonight. I hate making decisions!

Let me know if you've not got an email from me, please, and I'll re-send.

artifarti Sun 30-Sep-12 18:26:13

You've got mail smile.

Dysgu Sun 30-Sep-12 18:48:42

I have mail - thank you!

As for resting with feet up and time to read - hahahahahaha...

I am averaging 60 hours of work a week right now! Has got a bit silly due to change in senior management, reorganisation and a pending OFSTED - can only get better!
