has anyone been prescribed steroids ?

got the results of all our miscarriage tests today and the only thing that came back as abnormal was my NK cells.
Our specialist has recommended steroids (or IVIG which is waaaay too expensive) next time I get pregnant. We've decided to go for it but the side effects sound horrible. I'm not looking forward to going all puffy faced and not being able to sleep. has anyone experienced what it's like?

hi kissmummy, thats interesting. I wonder what they will make of that at St Marys? By the way we have our appointments on the same day- i get all my results on the 16th.

that's strange samoy - perhaps we should meet up!
i know lesley regan doesn't believe in the NK Cell research, but as far as I can see, there's nothing else for us to try we've had every test under the sun now.
i'll take all my test results along to my appointment at St Mary's. We won't have started any steroid treatment by then as there's no way i can get pregnant between now and the appointment, so we shall see if they have anything else to suggest. If they have any other ideas for us, great, but if not, then i figure we might as well try the steroids.

KissMummy
I am your steroid girl. Took thewm with my successful pg and am now taking following my last m/c from ovulation til a BFP. They are ok....no moonface or hairy back yet but I feel FAT FAT FAT and so hungry all the time, a bit dizzy and lightheaded - on the plus side m,y asthma is brilliant!! On balance, go for it - it's temporary and reversible and you are fat when pg anyway!!! I am so pleased you have an answer - trust Yau Thum, I sincerely believe in him and he has got me a positive outcome. Keep me posted xxx

P.S. As I said on a different thread, St Mary's do not particularly endorse the killler cells theaory, but Raj Rai and Pro Regan are relaxed about the use of steroids...

Hi kissmummy, its hard to know where to turn i know. After reading Dr Beers book i have a hunch my problems could be auto immune so im nervous about my results next week. If nothing is found i think ill look into NK cells, why not and im sure that i would give steroids a go if thats all there is for me.Like Megmum says the side effects are only temporary. Im pretty sure i read somewhere that Raj Rai was/is involved in some trial with prednisolone so maybe they are starting to think down that route a bit more. It is strange having our appointments on the same day- what time are you there?my appointment is 10.45...

samoy our appointment is at 10.15am! we so have to say hello to each other! email me at [email protected] and i will tell you what i look like in case we spot each other before or after the appointment!
thanks for the info megmum - it's quite reassuring that Regan is not totally anti. i was/am braced for her scepticism which will of course mess with my head a bit but if she has any other answers for me at this stage then i'm all ears.
I usually feel terrible in the first few weeks of pregnancy anyway. if the treatment works then it will be worth whatever the misery; and if it doesn't, I am likely to miscarry by around eight or nine weeks so i won't be on the steroids for long anyway.
