Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Apparently miscarrying but much lighter than expected and no pain

I'm really confused right now. I posted last week www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/900038-Ok-my-period-is-a-week-late which is the back history. I'd be over 6 weeks now but on being referred to the epu on Thursday the pregnancy test was negative so they wouldn't scan me.

I started bleeding brown blood that evening and into yesterday. It waas light. Mostly red from yesterday but very little, barely any on the pad (sorry for tmi) and again today, very little blood. I've had 5 mc's before and this is very different. No pain at all and much lighter than even a normal period for me. I've been having a lot of cramping and pain for a week before I started bleeding.

Is this normal? Please help.

No advice but sorry you are having to go through this stress.

Thanks Bumperlicious, I'm coping ok at the moment, keeping my mind busy as much as possible. I'll see how I go and might call the drs in the week, really don't want to waste their time though.

I haven't tested again, I didn't see the point once after the one at the epu and them basically saying I'd miscarried and then the bleeding started and I thought that was it.

I just wish it was straight forward! Thanks though, appreciated that people are thinking of me. I'm thinking of so many silly possibilities now and driving myself crazy.

Have you done another pregnancy test to rule it out completely? When pg with ds I spotted brown and red for about three weeks between weeks 4-7. Did you have your scan today?

last time i mc i wanted the bleeding to start so i could get over it and start again.

i always find the longer it took the more time i spent fantising (sp?) that the docs where all wrong, and i was actually still pg.

mc is utter crap. take care of yourself

I cancelled the scan on Thursday (left a message on the answerphone) because I started bleeding, typical eh. I haven't done another test either.

It's odd as I've known the times before that it's happened, heavy bleeding and pain. I had a scan on a Friday and saw the baby with my first miscarriage and lost lots of blood that night. They said the pregnancy looked normal but I knew that the baby was gone that night. Monday I had another and I was right, I had miscarried.

Which is why I'm having trouble this time. Sigh. Thanks for replies.

It's ok, I've been there too and have miscarried so I completely understand. I bled for 10 days with dd at about 5 weeks but also seen the other side.

Thank you xx

I don't want to be a scare monger but if you have any pain at all (in your abdomen, shoulder or even your bum) go & see someone

Odd miscarriages can very occasionally be connected to ectopic pregnancies

I haven't had any pain since I went to the drs now. I just don't understand why I'm not bleeding more, I usually have VERY heavy periods anyway, ie needing a super plus tampon and a towel and bleeding through within a couple of hours on the heavier days.

I think I'm going to call the drs in the morning, I'm worrying about everything now and this bleeding (or lack of) really doesn't seem normal.

how are you feeling now jodie?

let us know how you get on with the gp. will the epu definately not see you without a + test?

I'm ok just1more, just confused really and don't know what to think. Slight pains on and off, same side as I had them before, it comes and goes though. They told me it wasn't their policy anymore to scan without a positive test. I know from what I've read that ectopics don't have to be a positive though (and I had one previously), I just hope that's not what I have...

I'll see what the dr says tomorrow. Thanks for asking. Hope you're ok.

my local epu doesnt require a + test just a referral from gp.

hope they take some notice of you. it's so frustrating when you know there is something going on with your body and no-one will listen. i had something similar with my 2nd mc. odd bleeding, cramps etc. no positive test. i ended up passing a very odd clot so kept it and made my gp send it off for tests. i knew it was a mc but gp just wasnt interested.

im ok, back ttc this month, should ov in the next few days so fingers crossed.

any way keep me posted. really hope things work out for you.

My gp did refer me there as well, but they got me to to a urine sample and they told me it was negtive and so they couldn't scan me. Waste of time that was...

My gp is very good so I have no issues there, just that the hospital was pretty useless.

Sorry that you had to go through all that I hope this month is the one for you and that you have a healthy pregnancy.

Thanks, I'll update tomorrow, one way or the other. xx

Thinking about things but trying to stay occupied, don't even know if I should be sad to have lost another baby or ectopic or anything. The not knowing is so bloody hard. Clinging on to any hope I know but it's difficult not to.

how did it go with gp?

i can understand how you feel. even if you havnt been pg/v early mc you will still greive for what could of been. i sort of feel like that every month when af comes iyswim!

its so frustrating, that our bodies just wont seem to let us do this one thing. have a healthy pg.

stay strong. it will happen one day.

I'm very sorry about the loss of your baby.

I've had 4 m/c and for the earlier ones (6 weeks and earlier) I only had light bleeding, less than a normal period. Apparantly this is not uncommon.

JodieO · 01/02/2010 14:56

I'm still waiting for a call back from the gps now, will see what happens.

With my others it's always been really heavy, which is why it's odd now.

Still no bleeding now, only had spotting after the first day of brown blood.

Hi

It is a horrible, horrible limbo period I've had the traumatic, blood everywhere and lots of pain type of MC, but the last one I had - I would have been 5+5 when it happened - a day of brown, the next morning a clot the size of my little finger and a bit of bleeding and backache but nothing like AF. Same level of bleeding the next day and then nothing - it was a complete MC yet lighter than AF, so it does happen I think

Hoping for a miracle for you though

hi jodie - so sorry you're going through this.

i had a mc in November at just shy of 6 weeks. it was heavier than my usual period, but i have really light periods - certainly sounds like it was less heavy than your normal period, so maybe similar to what you are having now. i bled for about 5-6 days i think, but really light spotting only for the last 3-4 of them. i also didn't have any pain - bit of a tummy ache when it started but again not as bad as period pains, and no cramping or anything.

i don't know if that helps reassure or not, but your description sounds very similar to my experience.

Thanks again for replies, I really am so confused. I'm still getting a pain in my abdomen, same place as last week. Still waiting for the dr to call back. I called a while ago to make sure I hadn't been forgotten but I haven't been, I was told the dr hadn't done his phone calls yet.

did he get back to you jodie?

has the pain increased or stayed the same? never had eptopic myself but i would imagine, that if thats what you have the pain would increase? any other symptoms?

have you tested again? i know i would not be able to stop myself!
