Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Were your pregnancy test lines faint/ clear?

Hi ladies, I went to see an acupuncturist yesterday specialising in fertility and explained my history of MCs to him (2 early MCs). Both times, my pregnancy test lines were on the faint side.

He said it indicated that both times the levels of HCG hormones had probably stopped multiplying and started falling by the time I did the tests.

Is this true? Will I be more likely to have an unsuccessful pregnancy if the pregnancy test line is not a clear/thick one? Does this mean that the next time I get a faint positive I should not assume that the pregnancy is developing as it should?

This is going to make the next pregnancy test an interesting one...

I have no idea....but with DD1 it was very clear very quickly, with DD2 who I mc at 21 weeks it was also very clear instantly (there was nothing wrong with DD2 I had a retroplacental bleed) BUT this time PG3 it was really really faint, so faint DH thought it was negative, just put it down to a cheap test.....I had mmc 7/6 weeks.

Will be interesting to see if anyone else experiences this.

Its all rather annoying, I'm not really sure what it SHOULD look like because now that I think about it, all the tests I took - 4, had FAINT lines. But on the tests they state that a faint line is still a positive test.

Perhaps I should not test myself before 6-7 weeks in the future.

I tested quite early and had quite faint lines but as the box says, any line is a line faint or not and in my case definately proven. 6mnths down the line and I have the bump to show it - I know its a horrid time, I was uncertain until my first scan but I had reasons to doubt it would ever happen for me and my partner.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you XX

both times, my lines were really faint and i was really pregnant and went to term with DS and DD

a line is a line

i tested the day my period was due

you may get a stronger line with FMU

Thanks pagen & ruby for sharing the experiences. At least I won't now have to try to interpret also if there is a line, whether it will be a viable line or not!?!

BTW, whats FMU?

i don't think it's true

with ds1 mine was very thick and very clear immediately

with ds2 i could hardly see it, then decided it wasn't there, then did 2 more tests.
faintest of faint lines (was with first wee of the morning too! and well past my period being due)

ds3 was no line at all because i was testing the clear blue digital test!

I tested at 4 weeks with pg3 which was prob why it was faint and 5 weeks with 1 & 2. That's what I said to DH - a line is a line. You can't have a false positive. Good luck northlondon with future peeing on sticks (I think I will get clear blue next time too!) - hope your meet up from the other thread went well

Yes it went well, even though there were only 2 of us. It made me see that there are many others in this situation or even worse, so after a while I managed to stop feeling sorry for myself. Mumsnet has been a lifeline - so many supportive, compassionate and well informed ladies!

will you be TTC again Allthe8s?

My first test with my last pgcy at 2 days late was negative. 3 days later I retested and got a faint line. That faint line will be 3 in March

Before her I had 2 mmc (10 wks and 7 wks). Both of those tests were clear lines.

Can't remember the others (I have 5 DCs) except that I called the test company for DC3 because the line was so very faint that I wanted to check whether it was a +. He is now 20.

Thanks elvislives! There is hope even with faint lines. hurrah!!!

Not sure to TTC this month or next. Definitely want to take the plunge soon though

DH is really keen to TTC ASAP, I just realised that he hoped he had gotten me pregnant straightaway after the MC but I was hoping to wait another month just to mentally and emotionally prepare for the next round of knicker-checking.

Gotta wait for AF first and then I will try although hospital said I should really wait 3 months, but in their handout advice it just says 1 month! Good luck xxxxxx
