Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

did i miscarry?

hi ladies,

i thought i would ask your opinion on this one... i was pregnant, only 4 weeks. then on sunday i bled enough to use a pad, and there were clots. i thought i miscarried. the blood stopped since then but so did the morning sickness. my gp advised me to test again in 2 weeks time. i will do it just for piece of mind, but im inclined to think im no longer pregnant.

however, what im not sure about is the amount of blood: it was so little for my normal period, and is that enough to constitute a miscarriage? thank you for any thoughts you might have.

It's hard to say really

I had a miscarriage at 5/6 weeks and it started with very light bleeding and also the morning sickness stopped quite suddenly. Tbh I only had a little bleeding over the course of a week until the actual miscarriage occurred.

However, when I was 4 weeks pg with ds, I had a lighter than normal period at the usual time, full on period pain etc.

I'm surprised your GP hasn't referred you to a EPU actually.

hi mercy, thank you for your quick reply

they will refer me if i test positive in 2 weeks time, they want to wait to 6 weeks. im fine with that tbh, i think its too early for anything....

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

It could go either way I think, so there is still a little bit of hope

I miscarried in April at 5.5 weeks, but am convinced that the pregnancy never really got going. I bled lightly - lighter than a period but started with one clot the size of my little finger. Sometimes your body just reabsorbs the sac at that stage I think.

Fingers crossed for you. Another clue would be another pregnancy test - if you miscarried that early, your hormone levels should drop within days - if you are still getting a strong BFP, you may be in with a chance.

thank you jool. i suspected that its hard to tell at this stage, i think you and mercy are only confirming it.

thats what my partner read too, that the levels drop within days... i guess i will wait 2 weeks and then test. meanwhile im taking it as if im not pregnant and drinking my usual amount of... caffeine!

Hi jabuti
I'm sorry to hear you have to go through this. As others have said it's hard to say, because you were only 4 weeks gone you would not have bled a lot if it is indeed an mc. In 2 weeks' time you will be able to do a scan and then you'll know for sure - it's too early to do a scan now as they wouldn't see anything even if something was there. You don't mention pain - an mc is usually accompanied by period like pain. I have to say I had some light, painless bleeding in both my pregnancies, but it turned out to be harmless. It was later though (started at week 6), and there were no clots. All the best xx.

hi mouette,

yes, there is no pain. so mysterious pregnancies are! but i had clots... i mean, the combination are endless. if its a miscarriage, i prefer to be a full on and not to have to be sent to a scan. im ok as it is, i just dont want to have a complicated pregnancy, if you know what i mean. so hopefully things will be more clear soon for me!

I had pain with an MC at 5+5 and 11+5, but this time last year, I got a BFP on CD25 and started bleeding on CD28 - no pain, just a very heavy period - full mc though.

there you go, so hard to tell. what do the numbers mean jool?

The numbers are weeks and days of pregnancy, ie 5+5 is 5 weeks and 5 days, 11+5 is 11 weeks, 5 days

CD28 means day 28 of your cycle - the day my period would normally be due.

Hi Jabuti
I know what you mean... I found the stress of waiting and doing tests, scans, etc really difficult. Sometimes it's best to have a clean break and start again. All the best anyway. Don't worry though - if there is an embryo there in 2 weeks' time, the fact that you had some bleeding will not necessarily mean a difficult pregnancy. Sometimes when it's so early it's just that the egg didn't implant properly, so the pregnancy never really gets started. xx

and thank you for your positive words mouette , thats exactly how i feel, if its not going to work i would rather have a clean break.

That's the spirit! Unfortunately Mother Nature does not always believe in "getting it right first time".
