Two consecutive MMC's - any advice on questions to ask Doc?

Second MMC today discovered at 12w scan. I'm surprisingly ok in myself, I fell apart the first time so must've toughened up. In tomorrow for ERPC and wondered what/if there are any questions I should be asking? My background is II have one DD who's nearly 1, 1st MMC last year at 10/11 weeks and today measurements showed 7/8 weeks. Heartbeat seen at private scan 4 weeks ago but dates about 10 days behind which was probably an indication something was up as I was sure of my dates.

Is two in a row plain bad luck?

It was for me. My next two pregnancies were fine.

Thanks AF. I think I'll give it another go and hope that the third time's the charm. At my age (40) I'm very aware time's not on my side so watch this space.

I had 2 mc, one mmc at 11.5 and one at 6, and then ivf (male factor) and currently am 26 wks pg. also have 8 yr old dd.

From what I have read the chances of live birth at next pg is only a few % less than for those with no previous mcs.

Good luck with it. Blooming horrendous x

Hi there OP. I'm really sorry to hear that. I have some experience of this- to cut a long story short I had a DS1 and then had 4 MMCs before finally having my DS2 2 years after the first MMC had happened.
It turned out in my case that I had developed Antiphospholipid syndrome which means my blood was clotting too much. I was only diagnosed after i got referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic. I think if you are over 40 you can ask to be referred after 2 MMCs. Dont want to worry you and it could just be "one of those things" too of course.
good luck with it - i remember how horrid it all felt. xx

Three mmc here. Went on to have two lovely girls after at 36 and 37. I had a lot of questions and pushed for testing. Became pregnant however with first successful pregnancy before any testing happened. Good luck.

I had two MCs and a MMC. Had a lot of testing, no cause found, went on to have two normal pregnancies.

My understanding is that they'll refer you for further testing after 3, but I don't know if there's an age factor to that - I was in my mid-twenties.

Thanks everyone. I had no idea how common mc was until after it happened to me and I discovered mumsnet (long time lurker). Comfort seems an odd word to use, but I have found it comforting knowing it's not just me and plenty of us are battle scarred. I do feel guilty/greedy for wanting a second child, there was a time I thought I'd never even manage to have one and I know I'm lucky when some never even get that far.

Right that's enough wallowing, I'll put my big brave girl pants back on and keep going. Thanks again for all of your kind words.

Sorry for your losses TheReal and I hope tomorrow goes as well as it can. After my mmc I asked lots of questions about the likelihood of another one and was told your chance of MC stays the same (although it will still go up accordingly as it would with someone who has any type of MC) but your odds of another MMC don't increase. Certainly I went on to have another pregnancy without any problems and I hope you do as well.
