Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Really confused and no idea what to think

I apologise in advance for this essay, but really need some advice of help, as it's the weekend, and the doctors aren't working, and the out of hoursdoctor will call back within the next 24 hours, but have been told it's very busy so will be later rather than sooner. The local EPU aren't answering their phones, and we're so confused.

Basically February has been a tough month physically and mentally. I had a UTI, being treated with one lot of antibiotics for 7 days, then another course for another 7 days, but still in alot of pain but uti cleared and then was in hospital in the gynae ward with stomach pains for pain management, with no formal diagnosis apart from 'pain'. I had numerous internals, and internal and external gynae scans, where the sonographer asked repeatedly was I pregnant, to which I'd answered no, due to being on the pill and the drs had taken several urine pg tests, and some bloods (which later the bloods turned out to be just to check for infection as they didn't request them to be done for hcg). I was told I had lots of follicles on my tubes, which wasn't a surprise as have pcos. Anyway I was discharged and it kept playing on my mind, and I had a spare pgt at home, so the next morning I did one myself, and it came up as Positive (clearblue 1-2weeks). Went to the drs, had bloods taken and another very faint positive urine pg test. The blood was taken on the Friday, and the results came back on the Tuesday that it was positive and a level of 70, so very early days. We already have 3 children, and thought we were done, but after being hit with the news, we started to actually get our heads around the idea. Tuesday morning, I started gettin on and off cramps, and just thought it was because I'd gone back to work that morning, and working in a school kitchen I'd just over done it after being off for a little over a week. We put the kids to bed, and the pain was a little stronger, but nothing to concerning, thought 'things were just happening pg related'. Sorry for TMI but went to the toilet, and alot of bright red blood and few clots like period matter were there, we called the out of hours dr, who sent an ambulance! (absolutely mortified, and tried to tell them not to, but they were having none of it) ended up being taken in, and bloods taken. Internal, which was excruiating, and felt like she'd pierced me, and she couldn't get in properly. Took swabs and said it was tuning brown, so maybe nothing to worry about, they'll call me first thing in the morning to confirm bloods.
Went home, and blood kept getting more and brighter in the early hours, called them back, and they said to rest and speak to them in the morning. At 5am I passed a very large grey and pink tissue like no other, and was told that this would have been my baby, the blood was very red, and lots. kept passing tissue and clots. I finally managed to speak to someone in epau at 3pm, after leaving messages and someone 'would call me back' to be told my bloods were 34 and it was a confirmed miscarriage. They'll discharge me as nothing they can do.

I bled until the Saturday, and cramping was intermitent, but severe still on the Monday, so called the dr, who said it can continue for a bit, but if no better in a few days, go back and check no infection, but take a test a week or two later to ensure back to negative pg test.

Saw a dr on Tuesday (a week after mc) and he felt stomach and said I have slight temp, so put me on a week course of 2 lots of antibiotics as will have an infection from mc.

So fast forward to today, took a test, - came up pregnant, so took a clearblue expecting it to say 1-2 weeks, and it comes up as 2-3 weeks - how can it be a higher hcg than when I was pregnant, before the mc and with a hcg level of 70??? Really confused, and where i thought I could perhaps finally let go of the devastation I have felt these last couple of weeks, I'm now wondering if there could be a little bit of hope, as stupid as I know that sounds, and the amount of loss I had surely nothing could still be there??!!

Hiya. I doubt I will be much help to you...but didnt want to just "read and run". It definitely DOES sound like you went through a miscarriage...but I agree that it is puzzling that the clearblue test would be going up instead of down :/ I know it still can if it is a "missed miscarriage"...as your body still produces the hormones...but this does not sound like the case with you??

I've heard of cases like this where people have been carrying twins...and the one passes while the other continues to grow? But I dont want to give you false hope that this is the case.

If I were in your position, I would ring the EPAU first thing in the morning and explain your situation. They will probably want to scan you to make sure everything is okay.

Good luck, and please let us know how you get on. Thinking of you xxx

Hi Sidiaro,
Thank you so much for your reply, really appreciate it.
They called back and I have to go get a blood test tomorrow at the lab, and take it from there. They mentioned about a possibe twin like you said, or a possible molar pregnancy, which I hadn't heard of until today.

I will let you know what happens, really confused and messed up after trying to move on. Thank you xx

Thank you for your messages. I had the bloods done yesterday, and have just had a call back from the doctor, my levels are 250, so he will refer me for a scan asap with the EPAU, so hopefully that will be tomorrow he said.
He said it could possibly be some tissue left over, or still a possible pregnancy. I really don't want to get my hopes up, and have to be very matter of fact about it, but a tiny part of me isn't listening to reason. Very nervous and just want to get it over and done with, so I know what is going on. Although in all probability it is just some tissue left over. :(

I will let you all know what happens when I get the scan, and thank you all once again for being so supportive. xx

I have had more blood taken today, and scans, and they can't find anything untoward. The bloods have come back at 320, so they have risen, but they don't know what is going on at the minute.
They are treating me as a PUL - Pregnancy of Unknown Location.
I will be back in for bloods on Friday to find out if they have risen enough. At the moment, they aren't sure if It is eptopic or not, or if it is just too small to pick up on anything. They said that it wouldn't be a 'new pregnancy' but there is no free liquid nor tissue that they can see to say it is a miscarriage, so could possibly be a 'twin loss', but they don't want to say for sure on anything yet, until the bloods results are back, so basically, blood and urine confirm I am still pregnant, but there is nothing visible, anywhere yet, so they are a little more than confused.

Thank you Sidiaro.

Had scan of kidneys and bladder yesterday, and the results will be sent to my gp next week, and more bloods taken today, which hve risen, but only to 422, so not rising in a trend so the consultant has booked me in for a review on Monday morning, and possible further scans or bloods, but f I experience anything untoward over the weekend, I need to call them immediately. So the saga continues, and still unsure if there is actually 'anything' there. So deflated now. Sad Confused

Hi MrsGaz,

I'm so sorry you're going through such a difficult and worrying time.

I have recently been diagnosed as having had a molar pregnancy (that you said one doctor mentioned to you); hopefully not what you're experiencing but it is good that the Drs are monitoring the situation closely because it does sound unusual. I too had heavy bleeding and abnormal scans and hCG levels. I hope that the appt on Monday can give you some answers.

Hi Lou1791, I'm so sorry to hear you have gone through this. I hope you are doing ok, considering.
I started bleeding this morning, and it is enough that I need a pad on and have been getting pains, not quite cramps, but hurting. Spoke to the EPAU and they said to rest and see how it goes, obviously if it gets very bad to go to ED, but otherwise best bet is seeing the consultant tomorrow morning as planned, as they won't be able to do as much over the weekend, ie no scans, or results in blood tests etc.
Think that whatever has been happening, it will be over soon, don't have a good feeling at all.

Thanks for your messages. So Monday, had bloods taken and scans, couldn't locate anything, so was to go home, and if bloods had gone up, have to think about methotrexate injection to terminate pregnancy as it wouldn't be viable, if lowered would let miscarriage take its course and monitor bloods. Went to the coffee shop at hospital, then started to head to car when I collapsed in pain on right side and was taken back up to epau. Had emergency laporoscopy, which showed everything as normal, apart from womb looked 'very pregnant'. With bloods coming back at 572, it's too small to be viable and it hasn't been located. Still in hospital now, as pain is still terrible, and they've been left with no choice bug to administer the methotrexate injection as they still believe it's ectopic and no way of being viable, so waiting to be either be taken to the cancer ward to be given it, or nurse from there to come here. I'm terrified of having to do this injection although I know there is no other option as it is going to put myself at risk, and there is nothing I can do to get the pregnancy to grow properly or in the right place. I desperately want the pain, nausea and emotions to stop, but know it's not going to be easy. X

Any news? Did you get the injection and hopefully the pain stopped? Wishing you a speedy recovery xx

Thanks for messages. I had the injection yesterday, and so that is done. I was going to be discharged last night, but after 4 hours of mucking around the Dr at 10pm wouldn't discharge me as went a bit downhill. Am still in pain but not terrible if I don't move, so going home in an hour, I can't wait. Back in on Saturday and Tuesday for blood tests, and hopefully it will all be over soon. Xx
