1 week after miscarriage...possible infection symptoms?

Hi all.

One week ago I had a natural miscarriage, but I have no idea if I fully passed everything. I had heavy bleeding on and off for about 3 days with clots. Since then I've continued to bleed, but much lighter.

Yesterday the blood turned brown, and has very small bits of old, black-looking clot. It also smells quite bad, but I can't work out if it is an infection smell or just the smell of old blood. Sorry for TMI.

I don't have a fever or pain (just slight period like aching) but I have had a weird cough on and off for over a month, that has suddenly become a very sore throat and sore glands behind my ears.

I'm concerned this is a sign of infection, but in all honesty am so fed up of going backwards and forwards to the EPU and having to have time off work to do so, that if this is "normal" after a MC I'd rather just get on with it.

I wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?

Sorry you're going through this, it's shit isn't it?

I had similar after an erpc, turned out it wasn't an infection but I felt really ill with it. I think I felt quite run down for a good month after my mc, had a constant cold and felt tired and ill all the time, my immune system was knocked by it I think.

I'd make an appointment just in case, as if it is an infection it's better to catch it now and I think they take it quite seriously. I went in when I thought I might have one and the doctor was really nice, took swabs and gave me antibiotics anyway just in case, as it was safer than waiting for the results to come in.

Thank you for your quick reply. Did you go to the EPU or just your GP?

I just went to my gp, but I'm lucky that you can usually get a same day appointment here which I know isn't possible for everyone.

I just phoned my gp and told her I had pain and my discharge smelled funny. I was given antibiotics over the phone. Give your gp a call. x

Thanks for the replies. I've got an appointment tomorrow for swabs. I'm hoping they test them there and then to avoid more waiting! It might be nothing but the thought of infection scares me so I'm glad I'm booked in.
