Did I have a miscarriage?

Hi,
I didn't know I was pregnant, I'm on the pill but I don't always take it at the same time every day but I do take it everyday. Anyway, my boyfriend usually pulls out. I was 2 days late starting my period and the night it started I was woken up by really really bad cramps for about an hour and then I managed to get back to sleep. In the morning I found like jelly/tissue looking stuff in my pants. I googled it and these are signs of a miscarriage but I didn't know I was pregnant. I carried on bleeding for the next 5 days, like a period but I read the miscarriage bleeding can go on that long. My baby wouldn't have been more than 3 or 4 weeks old. I'm 18 and scared and sad. Thank you for any help :) I'm sorry if there was tmi.

That must have been ever so distressing for you but at four weeks and two days' pregnant (which is what you would have been) there wouldn't have been any jelly or tissue from a baby. Chemical miscarriages, which are those that happen so early on in pregnancy, end in a regular bleed that is just like a period although they can involve painful cramps just like any other period.
