Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Could I have miscarried?

I did a pregnancy test about six weeks ago.... just a basic positive/ negative, nothing telling me how far along, but by my reckonings I would be about 8-10 weeks by now.

For one reason or another I haven't been to a doctor yet at any point.

I haven't had many symptoms at any stage really.... full & sore boobs, hungrier than usual, tired, and very rarely ever so slightly nauseous, but nothing major at all.

However over the past couple of weeks I've not felt any of these things & thought I would be able to feel even the slightest hint of a bump by now, but nothing.... still flat flat flat!

I'm wondering if I might have miscarried? I've had no bleeding or cramps, but have checked the internet, which states that in some cases there might not be bleeding or cramps, it's just that the heart stops beating.

As I haven't been to the doctors yet I'd rather try & figure it out myself first before having to go.

If I do a pregnancy test now would it still be positive either way, as I haven't actually passed anything? I'm thinking it will. But wondered whether a test which says how far along I am might give more information.

Does anyone have any experience of this or able to shed any light or advice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I would take another pregnancy test if positive go to the doctor. The pregnancy hormones would probably dip if you had miscarried and should be reflected on the test. If you're 9 weeks you need to be thinking about seeing a midwife so they can check on things. I wouldn't expect a tummy at 8 weeks especially if it's your first.

Hope this helps x

I just read that pregnancy hormones can remain high in a missed miscarriage. I hope all is ok x

buggerlugs if you had a positive test 6 weeks ago then you are at least 10 weeks pregnant (as you are unlikely to get a positive until 10-14 days post ovulation and the pregnancy is dated from your LMP at least 2 weeks prior to ov) and you really need to be in the system to have a chance of getting a 12 week scan. The timing is fairly critical if you want to have the testing for trisomies. In a missed miscarriage (where baby has died but you haven't physically miscarried) you would be likely to still test positive, women who miscarry at the end of first trimester often test positive for weeks after they actually miscarry because the hormone levels take time to fall. It's more likely that you feel ok because the placenta has taken over at the end of the first trimester, many people feel much better from 10-12 weeks. You probably wouldn't show at all until the uterus is well up above your pubic bone, if you have decent stomach muscles this can be well into second trimester.
You need to go to the doctor or midwife and get a dating scan. I hope everything is ok when you do.
