Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

periods returning after erpc

on 21st January (two weeks ago tomorrow) I had an ERPC, pregnancy measured 5 weeks when I should have been around 9 weeks.

I was bleeding for around a week afterwards, no pain or cramping except for the first day. surgeon said I shouldn't bleed too much as they'd got most of it away (nice!)

yesterday I started to bleed again, it feels just like a period, I'm cramping a little bit just like I do normally.
but on Saturday I still had a faint positive pg test.

I was convinced that this is my period, I've been reading around on the internet and most people say they should return around 6-8 weeks so this seems awfully soon.

is it possible? did anyone else's return early?

Is there anyway you maybe over did things to cause a bit of bleeding?

From everything I've read, I think it just varies from person to person when you get that first period. Maybe do another test once the bleeding stops and see what it says then? Most people I have talked to said they got a period between 3-4 weeks after ERPC.

I don't feel like I've been over doing it, I felt completely fine and was back at work 5 days after the surgery. I only work 3 days a week in a not very demanding job.

will do another test at the weekend probably

I just want to try again Sad

thank you for your reply Flowers

I have overdone it a few times and had a few little bleeds but nothing I could say was remotely period like. From a quick google search some people have said that it could be the last tissue coming out and it should be 3 weeks before a true period... so who knows!

I think a test at the weekend would be a good idea, hoping for a BFN (hate saying that Sad) and you can move on from here.

I feel the same, just want my period to get here so I know things are moving on in there and I can ttc again x

Bumblebee, if discharge does not smell, there is nothing to worry about, I have left aside my first cycle after MC and ERPC (one followed by the other within 8 months) and 3 months later, had a positive test resulting in a gorgeous healthy baby. FX for you and Misery

thank you blue

as an aside, were any of you given any advice on aftercare? follow up blood tests or told to take pg tests to check hormone levels? I wasn't told anything wrt hormone levels or trying again so I'm a bit clueless.

No, Bumblebee, no advice. My consultant just said not too worry, not to focus too much on ttc, go back to normal, it is just mother Nature, some eggs are not meant to become foetuses. I think no further exams will occur until you have had 3 consecutive mc ! I know, 1 is hard enough. I don't remember exactly why I started though to take folic acid in Month 3 after 2nd mc. Sorry, memory is a bit distant, DS is now 5 and a bit. And DD is 18mo. With no mc in between. Don't give up hope. Take your time, don't overthink, if I may. Please do come back and let me know the good news in a few months :)

Bumble I was the same, told very little post op and everything I have found out has been from google or on here!

I wasn't offered any follow up appointment. All I was really told was if I had odd discharge, heavy leeding or extreme pain then I should phone them or go to A&E depending on what was wrong.
Before i booked in for the erpc I was told that if I mc'd naturally that I should do a pregnancy test after two weeks. No mention of when to do this after erpc or how long I should take it easy or how long it would be before my period came back or anything at all.

I got a negative result today, 12 days after the ERPC.

Mine didn't come back for 9 weeks and have been all over the place since, it's so frustrating !
