Anyone had a long wait using medical management?

Feeling quite distressed as received contradictory messages from EPU yesterday and today. I took the four tablets yesterday 7.45am and had nothing happened and still hasn't. Yesterday I was told that if after 24 hours nothing had happened I should phone the EPU at lunchtime as I could then go in and have a second dose. I got myself psychologically prepared AGAIN for the active part of my miscarriage and was told today that I cant have another dose as I might then overdose and that I just have to sit it out. The woman said just do a test after two weeks and then call us if still positive. Yesterday the staff were warm, open and kind communicating understanding of how awful this whole thing is. Today I was unduly distressed further by experiencing someone quite cold and matter of fact. Any one out there like me or am I just an exception to the rule? I thought it was supposed to take 2-4 hours to kick in? Sorry I'm ranting but its bad enough as it is having survived the last two weeks of emotional and physical pain without the thought this could go on and on and on......Luisa x

I think the guidelines must vary. I had 2 doses 24 hours apart but it was only 2 tablets at a time, then I had a scan booked for a week later to make sure it was complete, and in the event this was brought forward because I thought it had all gone.

I wouldn't accept it being left open-ended, you need to either know when they are going to give you another dose or be booked in for ERPC if they are saying it hasn't worked. Am I right in saying it was a MMC and you've already had some weeks without it happening naturally?
Sometimes you need to do "broken record" until they listen "I'm sorry, that option is not acceptable to me, I have already waited x weeks, I need to have some resolution in the next few days" " I'm sorry, that option....

Can your DH be assertive on your behalf? It's very difficult when you are in the middle of it to be calm and stand your ground. No shame in bringing in back-up.

I would have preferred medical management was told that in at least 5% of women it doesn't work and then you are forced to have an ERPC anyway.

For me this was the reason I went straight for the ERPC because at least I controlled the decision.

Sorry my experience isn't much help, but my understanding of it was that if m m fails, you then go on to have an ERPC. I would insist on discussing it again. Do you have friendly/understanding gp who could find out on your behalf?

Thanks so much. Really helpful advice. The Duty Doc at my usual GP surgery just called me as I'd asked for telephone consult about. He says the guidelines are to wait 24-48 hours and then to re-assess. He advises I phone again EPU tomorrow morning and hope for a more sympathetic ear. I will do as bakingtins says and be assertive. I did have to pass over phone to hubby this morning as I started to sob! Tomorrow I'll be more prepared and maybe write some notes. I'm going to ask for another try medically as this is what I want. If that doesn't work too then I may have to choose surgery. If they still don't listen I will contact my GP again to see if they can represent me. Thanks again. So glad I discovered this forum as don't know what I would have done without it. xx

I hope it all goes well. I feel for you because this is all so hard anyway. Great idea about writing notes, I did the same when I questioned waiting 2 weeks for another confirmation scan following my mmc at 12 weeks.

Fingers crossed you speak to someone with a bit more compassion tomorrow. Keep in touch. This forum is the main thing that has got me through other than my wonderful family.

Sorry to hear you are going through this, I ended up having two doses of four tablets. Two days apart, although the first dose worked I knew it was not everything so I phoned EPU to check and took the second dose. When I took the second dose I had no pain at all put took the pain killers earlier so that might have been why. I did read that it doesn't work 100% of the time which can be frustrating when you have mentally prepared.

It sounds like they are not supporting you very well as you need reassurance and your GP seems to be more helpful? I did learn (my first MC) that I had to be quite assertive to get what I wanted as they seemed to like the wait and see approach but I was very keen to get back to some form of normality.
