Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Anyone had children then several miscarriages?

I have 2 dbs so I know I am very lucky. However, the hospital confirmed today that I have miscarried for the third time in a row since my youngest was born. All of the miscarriages have been in the first trimester. Apparently I don't fall into the "criteria" for any investigations to be carried out. It seems strange that I should have 3 miscarriages after having had no problems with my first two pregnancies. Any helpful comments/advice/experiences appreciated.

chickenwings no advice really hun just sorry to hear this. I had 2 mcs then my ds then a missed mc then my dd and am currently 11wks pregnant. the hospital should do tests etc if you get pg again and ask for early monitoring.

I had DS then 2 miscarriages. I was lucky and got refered to a consultant who did blood tests which showed I had antiphosfolipid syndrome (not sure of the spelling)
I took an asprin a day and then had heparin injections daily until baby was born and did this succesfully with 2 pregnancies and now have 3 kids

Spangles - did you have lots of tests? and if it is not too personal why did they decide to refer you?

Yep...
3 miscarriages and one ectopic one m/c at 6 weeks, one at 9 and at least one chemical pregnancy. I suspect a lot more chemical pregs tbh
Am seeing clinic NHS btw and I have 2 kids, as surgeon feels he may have done something wrong when he did the ectopic surgery
I hope you have some luck soon xxxxx

First of all, really sorry about your miscarriages
Three miscarriages in a row is the criteria used for "recurrent miscarriage" so you should be referred for investigations by your GP. You should also have access to the EPU clinic if your hospital has on in your next pregnancy. Can be very reassuring with early scans after miscarriages.

By the way - in answer to your question. I had 2 children, 2 miscarriages and then another child after being referred for investigations and put on baby aspirin as they found my blood clotted easily.

i has dd, then 2 m/c's then ds. was not offered any reason as to why it happened, just told by gp that 1 happens, 2 is a coincidence, 3 they would begin to investigate, but again, this depends on your area, postcode lottery again!.

Thanks for your messages - it sounds as if there is some hope. I am looking into getting some tests done privately

DS1
M/C
DS2
M/C
M/C
Etopic

No idea why. I feel very lucky to have the 2 beautiful boys that I have. Havent ruled out trying again in the future (although would need a man first lol) but very definatly not in the next couple of years. Ive ended up hurt and lost too many times already.

I'm sorry about your m/cs Chickenwings.

I have a friend who had 2 children, then 3 early miscarriages, then another child, and is now expecting her 4th baby later in the summer.

I know that after the 3rd m/cs she was going to be referred as having recurrent miscarriages. I'm pretty sure that 3 consecutive m/cs is a nationwide criteria. If you do have antiphospholipid syndrome then, as spangles says, they can give you medication to help improve the chances of the pregnancy succeeding.

There's a very good book which includes information about recurrent miscarriages. The author is based at St Mary's.
