Possible early mc- anyone know what HCG should be at 5/40?

Hi all,

I should be 5 weeks pregnant. Second pregnancy, had a MMC 15 months ago where pregnancy stopped developing at 6 weeks but didn't properly bleed until 10 weeks..

I had spotting on Monday just gone. Only a tiny bit but I remember the same happening about 6 weeks last time ( although that time I also had pain & haven't this time).

Am convinced the same is happening again. I feel pretty much normal otherwise- breast tenderness had been a big feature last week, disappeared Mon-Tues but back slightly less so Weds and today.

Saw the GP who has nice- said too early for scan but is doing serial HCG's yesterday and tomo.

I realise that waiting for tomo's result is the only way to know everything's ok but does anyone have an idea of what HCG should be at 5/40 as I will get one result today.

It's so sad that this happens to people more than once.. I know some people have had it much harder also.. You almost want to think that after your "one" you'll be ok next time. Mother Nature is cruel sometimes..

Apologies if I seem crazy- it's the uncertainty that's so hard

I had hCG tests last year very early in my pregnancy. Thet said the number isn't really what they look for, as long as it has doubled in 48 hours. Fingers crossed for you.

I started bleeding at 5 + 3 and my hcg was 505 which they said was low but as long as it doubled in 48 hours they would be happy, they said the doubling was more important than the numbers. Fingers crossed for you x

At 5 weeks hCG should be between 19 and 7,340 (huge range).

hCG

But it is how the hCG is progressing that counts.

Thank you guys.. I kind of knew I needed to wait for the second result but was trying to clutch at straws as the uncertainty is so hard to deal with..

The initial result was 4700 ish. Have had a second taken this morning and am waiting for the result.

In the interim I've been seen at fertility clinic- an appt I almost forgot with everything else going on.. The consultant there scanned me. Saw fetal pole & sac but no hb ( 5+1 so maybe too early). He had suggested rpt scan in 10 days.

Hoping that today's HCG will give me bit of hope anyway..

I was scanned at 5+2, no heartbeat and just the beginnings of a fetal pole. Heartbeat was seen at 7+3 and I'm lying next to my baby now.

Thanks Toup- that's reassuring. Anxiously awaiting second blood test result now.

Trying ( unsuccessfully) to distract myself!

Ok some good news at last- gp just called with blood results. HCG has doubled between weds & Fri.

So relieved. Just got to wait 10 days now for re-scan hoping to see a hb.

Argh the roller coaster continues..!
