Hi im 21 and started having my miscarriage on new years day. I didnt realise I was pregnant at the time so left it quite a while before goin doctors. Since then I have been given antibiotics for infection and tranexamic acid to help stop the bleeding but it just isn't working. I havent been offered a scan and I feel like my doctor doesn't care! Is it natural to bleed this long? I feel very confused in my mind tryin to deal with all this and the constant bleed is not helping.... Can anyone please help me!!???

Hi Shell - I'm so sorry you lost your baby. It doesn't sound normal to me to bleed for that long. I bled for about 2 weeks after medical MC, but it was only heavy for the first few days. You should have been offered a scan to ensure that your womb is empty, if there is any retained placenta etc that could cause continued bleeding. Go back to the GP and ask for an appointment at the local EPU - they will arrange a scan and any necessary tests.
Hope you get it sorted soon, it's adding insult to injury to have it drag on for so long.

Hi Shellbean, how awful, I'm sorry about your mc. I just wanted to say I had a mc at 11 weeks and bled for ages, can't remember how long but it was over two months. The docs weren't interested. It wasn't heavy bleeding, mostly spotting with periodlike heavier bouts now and then. I got so fed up I googled about vitamins for wemons reproductive health, after a couple of weeks all was back to normal, a healthy period and I got pg that cycle. Could be coincidence but I think it was the b vit! Good luck.

Thank you for your kind words and help. I've booked myself back into the doctors but cant be seen til next Monday so I'll give myself that time to get better, if not I'll demand a scan because this is physically and mentally draining me! Thank you both!

i hope this reassures you a bit - I had this and all was fine - but you should contact your local hospital's early pregnancy assessment clinic as it is unusual, hope you're better soon!

Oh the epac might hold a sort of walk in - mine did and was much more straightforward than gp, just give them a call as they're everyday at the one by me so may be able to be seen quicker!

Thank you! So I don't need to be referred by a doctor I can just go on my own?

Sorry didn't get back on line. The vitamins were a multi B vit, e, c, d, omega 3 and evening primrose. I also took a spirulina and an antioxidant. OH teased me, and I'm not normally a vitamin taker, but I think they helped. Hope Monday rolls around quickly enough for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm on my 3rd week of bleeding and it's horrid, but 7 sounds like hell. If it's any reassurance I've heard some women go through it for just a few days and others up to 2 months.

If you experience unbearable pain I would get yourself down to A&E. If you're having contraction-like pains at the same time as heavy bleeding your cervix might be trying to expel something and it might need help so don't hesitate. Some A&E's should be able to do early pregnancy scanning to see what's left in there.

Sorry you're going through this and I you get better soon.

I am still bleeding today only mildly and started my mc on 9th Nov 2012 at 12 weeks. It has been exausting. My adice is to get the help u need. I was advised to have a natural miscarriage as it was so small. Got sent home with retained products in Nov and these only came out Wed 6th Feb 2013. I just want to get back to normal. I want to have no bleeding. I have had enough. I have been to the Docs and to a&e and to the gynae and epu ward too many times to count. I have complained to Pals. I will now be having blood test on monday to check my hgc preg hormone as I could have been having neg urine samples.

What I meant was that I could have been having false negative urine samples if that makes sense.

I have bleed for over 3 months...

I am sorry for anyone going through prolonged bleeding.

Once I get my blood test results and my histology results I am going to get medical insurance. The NHS is not good anymore. Its like a postcode lottery.

Thank you warpkitten I hope you also recover soon... I wouldn't wish this upon anyone... Am hoping to have a phone call giving me an appointment date tomorrow.

css1982kss I am so sorry to hear you have also been/going through prolonged bleeding and I completely agree! The NHS are not supportive or helpful at all!

I find it really assuring that I have people on here to talk to and know that I am not the only one... Thank you all so much! :-)

@shellbean I know this is a very old post but I was wanting to know the outcome? I am currently going through a similar situation. It's been 6 weeks since I miscarried (the gestational sac came out with a round of cytotec) and I am still bleeding. My Dr doesn't seem concerned and my HCG is finally down to zero. I don't know what to do now!

@desrosebud hi I am currently in a similar situation to yourself, I had medical management of miscarriage on the 26th June and have not stopped bleeding since. Starting to get concerned so am going to call doctors Monday and hopefully get some answers. When did you stop bleeding?

Hi I bled for 3 months after one of my miscarriages. Then had healthy baby the next pregnancy. There was no retained products or anything unusual. just took a long time to heal.

Hi panannypanoo thank you for replying, did you have a natural miscarriage? I am so desperate to start trying again feel like my body is letting me down.

I have an uncommon condition. it means each pregnancy has a 50% chance of success. Subsequently I have had 7 miscarriages between 7 and 16 weeks. I have had natural and medical management. I have had 2 missed miscarriages. I have had a holistic massage after one of my missed miscarriages and that started the process off within hours. That might be something you could consider to stimulate healing. I found it very cathartic. emotionally and physically.
I bled a long time after many of mine. The longest after medical management.
Your body is amazing. it recognised that your baby would not survive and could not develop any further. it is now healing and preparing for your next pregnancy. It is a horrible feeling. Being in limbo. desperately wanting to be pregnant but knowing your body isn't ready. Your hormones and emotions and instincts are all wanting you to be pregnant too. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time. Try and look further forward. I used to think this time next year I will be pregnant with my take home baby. it took away the immediate desperation and allowed me to enjoy my life not being pregnant. Took away that all consuming need
I am sorry you are going through this. I have 3 fabulous children. It has been a long, emotional road. Try to enjoy all the good things in your life whilst you are on your journey to being a mum. x
