Erpc yesterday and not told anything

As the title suggests, I had an erpc yesterday but no one told me anything afterwards. Are there any do's and don'ts no one discussed literally anything with me they gave me 2 leaflets and discharged me.

To be fair I did leave just after tea time when the meds and coffee trolley was coming round and everyone was so lovely but also busy. I just kind of feel a bit lost and uninformed. Any advice would be lovely.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I hope the procedure went as well as these things can do.

Probably most of the stuff is covered in the leaflets. I was given on about general anaesthetic, it said things like take it easy for the next 24 hours, don't operate machinery or drive, and have someone around with you. Basically an instruction to put up your feet and be looked after.

The specific to ERPC stuff is the same as the instructions for natural miscarriage - avoid infection by using pads not tampons to manage the bleeding, don't have sex until the bleeding has stopped. That's about it really. If you develop signs of infection such as a fever, strong abdominal pain, or smelly discharge then contact the hospital asap. If your bleeding settles and then suddenly becomes very heavy again, contact the hospital. The bleeding may go up and down a bit but should not be very heavy after a day or so. If you have any large blood clots, also contact the hospital.

Sorry for your loss I had an ERPC two weeks ago and was given pretty much the same information when I left! I attended a day services/surgery unit and the staff really didn't seem to know how to handle people in my situation,despite having 2 other ladies in for the same thing. I got told to have someone "look after" me for 24hrs due to the anesthetic but all other info I have found by trawling these boards. So whilst I've no real advice as to what the nurse should have said, reading this board is probably more useful IMO. Sorry I haven't been more help, but didn't want your post to go unanswered

Thank you so much for both of your replies. Sorry that you have been through this also. The procedure went well and only took 4 minutes so I'm told but took a while to wake me up! To be fair I had a few weeks to come to terms with the situation and was actually surprised there was anything left after the week of heavy bleeding and cramps preceding!

I have always found these boards so helpful but couldn't quite find what I was looking for today, so thanks again for replying. I really hope you have a better time of it next time Newton if that is what you are wanting to do. Xxx

I never had an ERPC so don't have anything useful to add to kat and newton's advice. I just wanted to sympathise with the feeling lost bit. I'm so sorry this happened to you, but there is lots of information and support on this board if you ask for it or trawl through old threads. After my experience, I spent a day lying on the sofa and reading back through pages and pages of old posts. It was so reassuring to read about people who had felt the same emotions. And I picked up a lot of useful practical info on the way.

I had my ERPC on Monday and stayed overnight. Did not even receive a leaflet
Make sure you read the advice on any medication. I only found out by reading mine that I must take my antibiotics with a full glass of water and not lay down for at least 30 mins as there is a real risk of ulcers. Thought it was all just erring on the side of caution until I looked it up on google. Also you may want to take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks time to make sure no products have been left behind. This will also give you a better idea when to expect your next period. So sorry for your loss
