Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Medical management of MMC

I found out yesterday that I have suffered a MMC. It was at my 12 week scan and the baby had died at 8 weeks. I am currently undergoing medical management (last time I had an ERPC). I had the tablet yesterday and the pessaries at 10:30 this morning. I expected the miscarriage to happen quite quickly but it is now 3:20 and although I am bleeding it is only like a normal period. When can I expect it to get worse? The reason I ask is that my DD will be home from nursery at around 5ish and I was hoping to be over the worst by then, but that does not look likely. I have no previous experience of medical management so really don't know what to expect, which is making the whole thing worse. (If it could actually be any worse.)

OMG.

Two of the four pessaries have just fallen down the loo! A have just caught a 3rd and reinserted. Looks like I will be back having more put in tomorrow at this rate. :(

Just want to get this over with.

Oh I do hope you are ok! Are you on your own?

I'm having an ERPC on Monday. I didn't go for the medical management as where I live they admit you to hosptial on the 2nd dose (the pessary) until it has all happened. I was told it could happen up to 24 hours after the pessary - which is why I decided against it as it would have probably meant an overnight stay!

Your lucky you can do it in the comfort of your own home. Like you say you may have to go back tomorrow for more anyway and I would ask them an expected length of time for them to do their job - although you'll no doubt get the standard response 'it's different for every woman!'

Sorry I can't offer any useful advice - but I do hope it is all over for you very soon. Look after yourself x

I'm also very sorry for your loss! I found out that I'd had a MMC at my 12 week scan last week - it's such a terrible shock! I hope you have someone to look after you as I'm sure it hasn't sunk in for you yet.

Thinking about you and I hope it all goes ok x

I am very sorry for your loss, I had a medically managed loss on Saturday. I was 9 weeks and there was a sac but no foetal poles.

I had 4 pessaries in at 2.30pm. Some came out and I had to pop them back. After 4 hours they gave me 2 more to put in. I finally passed the sac at about 8.30pm. And could have gone home by about 9.30.

Of course it is different for everybody, sorry not to be more help

Have you got someone to be at home with your DD? I was very tired for a couple of days afterwards.

Love Alice x

Hi.

firstly, sorry for your losses.

I had medical management a few weeks ago, but in hospital (they wanted to check that everything came away). I had the pessary at around 10am, it took about 2-3 hours before the sac and placenta came out, before that though I had very heavy bleeding, I got through about 3 pads an hour. There were also huge clots, so don't worry if that happens. After the tissue came away the bleeding got lighter. They gave me 2 further oral doses of the drug and I had to stay overnight because they hadn't seen everything, but a follow up scan I had last week showed that it did work properly. Are you having any kind of follow up to check everythings out?

And dont worry about the pessaries coming out, 2 of mine did and the nurse just said that as long as they had kicked in (ie. I had cramps) not to worry about reinserting them.

Look after yourself and I hope it goes as well as it can x

Thank you for your kind words and words of advice. The bleeding is getting a little heavier now, will have to wait and see what happens overnight. Have been given a PG test to do in two weeks to check that everything is OK and the EPAU will be phoning me tomorrow morning. I would think they will pull me in for more pessaries tomorrow, really hope that I won't end up needing an ERPC. DH is going to be with me tomorrow too. I would not have had medical management if I had to stay in hospital, the fact I could come home made it the right choice for me. Just need to get through it.

So here we are, day two. Still no real sign of miscarriage. Went in and had second lot of treatment today (two tablets orally), was told they would take around an hour to work. This was 21/2 hours ago and still nothing is happening. I am resigning myself to ending up having another ERPC. This is all making the whole thing worse. :(

Day 3. Still no sign of miscarriage. I am so frustrated and upset. Can't really go out just in case things start, probably going to need an ERPC next week which I could probably have had this week if I had wanted. This whole thing is just dragging on and I feel I can't start grieving properly until the physical process is over.
