strange period patterns after MC. normal or not?

just posted this in conception but no answers and thinking i may have been better to post here (so sorry for double post)...

just looking for a bit of advice really.

I had an ERPC on 9th Dec at what should have been 12.5 weeks- i had found out the week before that the pregnancy had actually come to an end at around 9 weeks so missed misscarriage.

Using ov tests as ttc again asap... anyway, pattern of events since then:

took 3 weeks until i got a BFN (30th Dec) then had what seemed like a normallish period fr 4/5 days from 4th Jan.

+ve opk on 19th jan (day 15 of cycle)
period like bleeding for only 2/3 days 30th Jan (really short period- normally 4/5 days)

+opk 11th feb

then the really weird bleeding starts:

21st feb- red spotting
then nothing until
24th feb- period like bleeding 12 hours ish
25th- nothing
26th feb- some red spotting all day
nothing until
2nd march- one "little gush" red blood (enough to stain underwear (sorry TMI)
nothing until today
5th march- bit of brown spotting

so guess my question is what on earth is going on and is it just my body getting back to normal after the miscarriage or should i go to the doctors?
i just want my cycles back to normal so we can ttc again!

sorry for all the tmi and long post
thanks in advance for reading if you got this far!

Hi naughtyds and sorry to hear re: your MMC.

While I'm no expert, I can relate to your experience - one natural MC in June and one MMC in Nov resulting in ERPC on 14th Nov following similar-ish weeks to you and I've gone from fairly predictable and regular 28 day cycles to 28-36 day cycles with spotting for 2-3 days before "proper" period. I know of others who have had strange cycles before getting back to their usual cycles too so it could well be your body getting back to normal.

I think that the +opk's are a good sign for you though and have you considered that you could be pg again, despite the bleeding? You don't mention here whether you have done an HPT recently. There can be complications with scar tissue post ERPC and so my best advice would be to get the advice of your GP or get a referral as at the very least, it could put your mind at more rest and if you do need further treatment, then I believe it's a case of the sooner the better.

Good luck.

You're welcome naughtyds and thanks for your kind words too.

Sorry it's not the bfp you would have hoped for. You may find it useful to join one of the other TTC post MC threads here on mn - this is the one I am on here and there are some really lovely ladies on there and we are a great support for each other. As you will see, it's not all about TTC - we have quite a giggle too!

naughtyds Sorry for your loss. Periods after mc can be weird for a while. It's very frustrating, particularly if you're waiting for the bleeding from the mc to stop and a normal cycle to resume.

What I would say is that there is usually a settling down period of 3 months for your cycles to get back to normality. There should be at least 3-4 weeks between the end of your bleeding from the mc and a normal period to start, so I'm guessing (if you haven't had any bleeding since 5 March) things are trying to settle down now.

However, if you experience any more odd bleeding before 3-4 weeks has elapsed, it wouldn't hurt to go and request a repeat scan to check that your uterus is back to its normal state. I had 3 months of on/off bleeding after my mc and I wish I'd pestered them to check me out sooner than I did. Sometimes our bodies can do very odd things! I hope everything gets back to normal for you soon.
