Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

When does your first period arrive after miscarriage?

I miscarried in Mid December and was told I would have a heavier than normal bleed on my first period. So far I haven't had any bleeding (not even for the miscarriage). I feel like I am on tenterhooks because I haven't gone through this before. Does anyone know when I can expect the bleeding to start?

Have you had a scan? Or blood tests? Do you mean you've had no blood loss from the miscarriage at vall? How was that diagnosed?

Hi lurker I had two positive results at the doctors ( when I went to get a coil fitted ironically) which fitted with me starting to feel queasy. They didn't know how far along I was as I hadn't had a period since my DS was born in June so they organised a scan in two weeks time. At the scan they couldn't see anything so did an internal one with still no result. I was sent along to the early pregnancy unit and they did a poas test which came back negative. I have had no bleeding at all the only sign that something might have changed was the morning sickness disappearing.

Well that all sounds a bit odd to me. I think you need to go back to the doctor and get a blood test for HCG. If a pregnancy ended that long ago I think your level should be non-detectable. There is something called molar pregnancy and partial molar pregnancy in which something goes wrong at an early stage so a baby never developes properly but a placenta does start to grow so you may not bleed - because your body is fooled enough to think it's pregnant. This in itself is rare but has it has an even rarer side effect of causing a type of (curable) cancer so it should be detected and treated. I suppose the other possibility is that you were only in the very early stages and your body was able to totally reabsorb the pregnancy. Anyway - it's worth going back and asking.

It's very unlikely to be a molar pregnancy but if it is it needs sorting out and they follow you up for a bit just with urine tests. Tbh the negative test at the EPU is a good sign all is resolved but this is something you need to be sure about.

Yup, although I did wonder if I had reabsorbed the baby but didn't know if that was possible/likely so it is better to check just in case i am a medical freak!

How did you get on?

Hate to admit this, but I was hoping that my period would start this week and I wouldn't have to worry so I haven't been to the doctors yet. Then I saw LeQueen say she had a molar pregnancy on a thread today and realised it might not be as rare as I had hoped. I feel suitably ashamed and I'm going to contact the doctors tomorrow Blush

Ok so spoke to the doctor and am booked in for bloodiest on Monday with results due in ten days. Hopefully I'll have had a bleed by then!

Hi Lost after my first mc, my cycle took 34 days to come back. After the third mc, my cycle came at 21 days. You should go to the EPU and get a scan. Good luck on Monday.

Hi Laf, it has taken longer than I expected. The doctor said that Bfing may have delayed my periods coming back so I pointed out that I had been pregnant again so thongs must have started working again at some point! She did day that a molar pregnancy would have turned up on the scan so I still have my fingers crossed that I have a period soon (never thought I would say that!)

Well the blood results came back yesterday and it's all ok, no further action required, so I guess it's just a case of waiting for my first period!
